Casmie, I am so sorry I didn't mention your DS. I am so pleased he feeling a bit perkier today - must be such a relief for you xxx

Twiglett · 22/01/2005 18:37

Libb .. I worked when DS was little too (from when he was 6 months old) .. he never went to bed till 8 (or 8.30) either .. I think its fairly normal for parents who work outside the home to want to delay bedtime properly so don't sweat it

Twiglett · 22/01/2005 18:40

re work .. I'm a SAHM (in case you didn't know)

re teething .. DD now has 2 bottom and One top one

re meals.. she just polished off a plate of fusilli pasta and carot batons followed by a slice of wholemeal bread .. and then we opened a jar of Hip chicken and rice .. boy can she eat

Libb · 22/01/2005 19:00

Wow, Twiglett! that is a lot of food. I think I am making a meal (boom boom) of this weaning malarky!

Casmie · 22/01/2005 19:11

Well ds2 has just mawled a chip, although I'm guessing that isn't going to be on the usual lists of suggested finger food

(Before everyone is really shocked I should point out that it was a home-made chip so I knew it wasn't processed gunk and no added salt - think he probably should be having carrot batons though )

oh my, what a day! - dp got up at 4.30am (must be because he works nights), and 30min later i was still awake and i could hear ds babbling and cooing and giggling. when he cried out i went to see him just to realise he wasn't in his bed - dp took him downstairs to keep him occupied; so i could get more sleep! well, didn't work - i got up too! dp meant so well but to feed him at 5 am
well, all 3 of us were quite tired all day - hence didn't do much more than watching telly
at 3pm dp decided to go for a nap, and ds decided to wake up from his - and kept crying for good an hour! i had him on my lap snuggled into me but that wouldn't stop him! finally after i pulled out all my tricks i got a smile and he was better from then on - lots of full nappies though; maybe another upset tummy??????
i gave dp 2 hours for his nap then i needed some out time; he bathed him though and put him to bed just a minute ago. can't be bothered to tidy up now

Twiglett · 22/01/2005 19:14

Libb ... the funniest thing was at her 8 month check (yes I saw an HV ) she was over 75th centile on height, and around 50th centile on weight

so the HV looks at my little buddah with her rolls of chubbiness, and fat scrumptious legs and 2 - 3 chins and says

"Mmm yes she's tall and thin"

Hi all
Casmie, sorry your ds is so poorly. sounds like just the teeth mind. teething can cause a fever can't it?
I dont think that dd's second tooth is properly through actually. i was looking at it through a glass as she was trying to chomp on my glass of orange reef in the pub! and it looked like there was a think layer of gum still over the top. she's in bed now, but not too happy.

wow, just been in to her and gave her a cuddle. she lay on my chest on her front and just went really still and sleepy. she would have stayed there all night i'd let her. she has never ever done that. always hated her tummy. bless. had to put her down so tried her front for a change but no. she just thought it was playtime and woke properly and began to laugh. so back on back and all is quiet for now.

dh gone to get a curry. must go and put poppodums on.

xxxxxx

ooo getting a maclaren quest at last

gosh by the time i got round to pressing add message you'd added about 5 billion more.. hi twiglett and libb.

dd does q well with foods. and we use jars a lot too. bad as i am a SAHM. but i am trying to use up the horrid stuff i did for her which didnt go down well by mixing it into jars. hence a jar lasts 2 meals. she eats chunks of toast, apricots (mmmmmm), fruit and stuff i mentioned earlier. funnily enough though doesnt do breakfast very well.

You'd think our babies were just big mouths and tummies, the amount we talk about food. It's my main preoccupation too. Am totally impressed by your DD Twiglett, and Casmie think home made chip prob. pretty good finger food. very good for teething too, if it had a crispy end as my home made chips always do. I gave DD a (posh, locally sourced ) sausage yesterday. She wasn't that chuffedwith it. 'none of this fancy sh*te, give me wee willie winkies' I could almost hear her say. (do you have wee willie winkies down south?)

I actually left DD with DH for four hours today - longest ever - so I could 'look after myself'. Met a friend who also has a baby in town for lunch. We met for the absolute minimum time but trains etc. made the 4 hours necessary... and I still felt guilty when I rang DH and he said she wasn't that happy. Isn't that typical. I can, in theory, go out and leave her but it's completely tied up with invisible strings. If I go shopping in the sales I buy stuff for her. If I meet a friend for lunch I talk about her. I feel bad if she needs anything while I'm away. It's not really like that for dads is it? Maybe for stay at home dads it is...

Heigh ho.

Helsy, I am freelance when I am working (children' s theatre designer and various painting/drawing/making related bits and pieces, often associated with one company which I am associate director of) (sorry, long to explain)... Anyway, SAHM'ing combines with working and like Casmie I probably feel more SAHM than anything else at the moment.

quick domestic detail: new carpet/rug thingy under my feet. for crawling on. (not me) good old sales I say.

spots · 22/01/2005 19:49

Libb, don't think you should use up your precious weekends cooking! and Cat too... don't feel bad about jars! God, if they're anytinglike mine the very thing you spend ages preparing will be greeted with a great fat raspberry and blown across the table in bits.

Libb · 22/01/2005 19:54

Here is my quick domestic detail.

Good points: a leather sofa, a fridge freezer that is self defrosting (sorry Casmie), we have broadband, a shower and a bathmat with goldfish swimming towards the plughole on it.

Bad points: a leather sofa that needs paying for, an pub floor carpet, a crappy house.

Libb · 22/01/2005 19:54

Thanks Spots xxx

Casmie · 22/01/2005 19:55

Libb: very jealous of the fridge freezer

Libb · 22/01/2005 19:56

I have really attached my mardy ass on properly today haven't I?

helsy · 22/01/2005 19:59

No not a teacher, nothing to do with schools and too dull to mention!

Libb, my dd is living on jars and rubbish with finger foods too - tried her on a rice cake today and she nearly choked on the damn thing.

Quite a mix of people back at work and SAHMS then - I deliberately asked about PAID work because we all know what we do is a proper job anyway, but I hate all that patronnising "domestic engineer" c**p. On the other side of it, my mum insists on referring to me as a "part-time mother" because I work - it's a full-time job looking after them whether you work or not!

helsy · 22/01/2005 20:29

Where's bongobum?

Bozza · 22/01/2005 20:49

Helsey I work part-time. I do three full days (Tues - Thurs). I am a computer analyst. Its a fairly steady job as you ascertain if you note the number of mumsnet postings I manage on those days.

DD is among those who is teething and grumpy. She's got really red, hot cheeks but no temperature. Took my sister out for tea to a brewer's fayre near where she lives yesterday. Dsis is 39 +5 weeks pregnant. Anyway DD sat in her high chair nicely but towards the end started getting fidgety. DS was having a chocolate ice-cream and I'd agreed to share a treacle sponge with Dsis. Anyway I took DD out of her high chair and sat her on my lap. She managed to pull the sponge and custard off the table on to us. The custard was piping hot and DD's hand was covered in it and I know it must have been burning her because it was burning me through my jeans. Anyway I had a sports bottle of water in my bag so I poured that over her hand and then rushed off to the loos and ran it under the cold tap. Fortunately she seems none the worse for this but it was a bit scary at the time.

I think DD is heading towards family food - its just the days when we have something too salty that are a problem. Tonight I made home-made meat and potato pie, cauliflower, brocolli and peas and just mashed hers up a bit with a fork and she ate it no problem. Followed by mashed pear, grated apple and a finely chopped cherry.

Anyway I'm off to start a new thread because I've been CAT'ed by Kate79 (d'you remember she joined us last week I think) saying that she can't access this thread and can we start another.

egypt · 22/01/2005 21:25

oh yes, she cat'd me too, off to look for you.....

Hiya,
if anybody's around and could do me a favour, could they post a link for me to the new May babies thread (no 9)? It's the only way I can access it at the moment. Thanks!

Casmie · 23/01/2005 13:38

Ooops.... sorry Judd! It's here
