omg casmie, you are having a hard time of it. dd's first tooth came through without a hiccup, unless the night i spent walking the streets with her at 3am was a hint - christmas/newyear. the second one is rearing its head now. but she hasnt really suffered i dont think. she has a runny nose now mind but went to bed really well.....finally. was awake for half and hour banging her legs but then went off. dh is away tonight, so i am getting an interrupted early night. no one NOISILY locking the front door, even though i've already done it and coming in the room at 12pm and whispering 'are you asleep?'

fingers crossed for a good night for all. they have been a bit out of sorts lately haven't they.

and yes, maybe i'll limit by net access to twice a day

Helsy - thanks - Me thinks if you had the 'tools' I have to do this job (get to stay at home all day), you'd breeze through it. If we had a breakfast club at school - there's no way I'd make it there! Had to have no shower and feed DS before and after school run to get her there on time!

I was only joking about no solids - he did quite well today strangely...No teeth yet for mine either..

Prufrock · 18/01/2005 23:06

That cheek isn't just "rather red" cat - it's crimson.
I would just like to inform everyone that Kiera is the most beautiful little girl who can smack her lips together in a most gorgeous manner.

DD is better - she was v. grumpy going to nursery today but settled as soon as I left. Ds didn't sleep all afternoon, but fell asleep whilst having his bath. Hopefully he won't be up too early tomorrow.

SusiS · 19/01/2005 07:41

yessssssssssss!
had uninterrupted sleep 10.30 - 6.30 - wohooooo! woke up at 6.30 and was all confused and fully awake! had to wait for ds to wake up grins

egypt · 19/01/2005 09:02

wowee, well done susi. wasnt q as successful here.....10,11,1 - went down ok each time though and 640.....milk.....740

And we had 7.40 to 7.05!!!! Can't understand why when on Sunday she was awful, up about 5-6 times then came in bed with us, then DH on sofa, then started playing with my hair/patting the duvet at 3 am and then back in cot until 5 etc etc (you get the idea). Because on Monday she seemed perfectly well but last night/this morning she seems to have be very snotty. Had a real task cleaning her face up this morning and also worried about a sticky eye again.

Domestic detail - cleared out my knicker drawer last night while watching Child of our Time.

Cat glad you got through it. Hope you start to feel better soon.

Casmie · 19/01/2005 11:18

Don't allow face of teething baby ANYWHERE NEAR your nose.... ow ow!

SusiS · 19/01/2005 12:39

oh god!!! lucas is such a clown!!! have just been feeding him and he was fascinated by the spots in the kitchen and squeezed his eyes together every time he looked at them. then i copied him and thought that was very funny! and wanted me to do it again and again. but he did it too! and we both are laughing alot
oh and i bought jumbo raisins for him. just cut them open a bit and he is now busy picking them up. he loves them - lol, now he is applauding! cheeky monkey

cat82 · 19/01/2005 17:56

Hi everone

We've had a nice day today, poor kiera is teething but after a rub of calgel (i think it reminds her of having her tooth cleaned when i rub it in to her gums, and she smiles and giggles ) she's much happier. She's now eating banana as a finger food as we speak, for the first time!

Oh dear egypt- doesn't sound like you had too good a night

Camsie- Ooooh dear, did he leave tooth marks?

Prufrock- Thanks for the compliments on kiera, obviously i agree with you 100%

We had a stinker of a night last night, but nothing to do with kiera, she was sound asleep for the usual 12.5 hour stretch. Poor dp was unwell yesterday and last night with a stomach upset, and for some reason i was stupidly anxious about it, and lay awake worrying about him pretty much ALL NIGHT. I had a grand total of 3 hours sleep and am exhausted today. Dp is almost back to normal today!

Bed at 9.00pm tonight methinks....

Take care everyone
xxxx

egypt · 19/01/2005 18:35

bless you cat. you and your dp do look after each other don't know.

well done on the finger food. dd loves mashing banana and avocado all over herself. likes pear and apple chunks and cheese....and bread.....and rice cakes....erm, think thats it for finger food, oh and eggy bread...

spots · 19/01/2005 19:27

Hello cat dear, glad you are out the other side. Mend up well and smack your lips at Keira and at your dp. Soon it will be spring.

And hello everyone. I had my edinburgh experience last night. Blithely gadding about at eveing meetings while poor DH went through hell. Yes he did. Mum had locked her flat on the mortice and I don't have a mortice key, so he and DD were locked out just at her most frazzled, screaming point. Her neighbours on the stair were popping out of their flats to see what all the screaming was about. Of course this really exhausted both of them, so that by the time I got back and they had been let in by Mum returning later, DD was fast asleep and DH was setting off for a night out with a friend (which incidentally he didn't return from till about 2am, a reeking and a rolling).

So that's one down anyway.

And today DD got looked after by Dad while I had my haircut. He gave her a cup of tea!

Now I'm pooped, DD is asleep, DH smells of stale alxohol and I would love to spend all night on mumsnet. Can't though. Tsss.

Judd,a re you feeling any better?

egypt · 19/01/2005 21:28

oh dear spots. well sometimes its good for them to know that it isnt always that easy

OP posts:
Judd · 19/01/2005 21:38

Hiya Spots, thanks for thinking about me. I am OK actually so perhaps it was just apprehension about DH being away. Sometimes I just don't seem to cope with life in general very well and I would give ANYTHING to change my mindset.
Anyway I need to bring up the vulgar subject of money with you! Do you owe me 50p vis a vis Lovely Lentils or not??? Or did DD reject it entirely?
I've got jumper burns on my elbows from lying on the floor and playing games with DD all afternooon. Panicky moment when DS managed to fit a whole Jitterbug into his mouth - yet another toy which cannot be left lying around.
Detail Domestique - made my own tea tonight and it was dead nice. DH usually cooks.

helsy · 19/01/2005 22:14

Hello Cat82, glad to see you about and enjoying Kiera.

You're all making me feel terribly guilty about finger foods. Can't give dd2 banana just yet as dh is seriously allergic, so I'll introduce it gradually in flakes in cereal like I did with dd1. Had intended to make lots of nice food for dd2 and store it in our new freezer in our nice new kitchen in our nice new house, but TESCO didn't deliver some of my order (mainly the stuff I was going to make into baby food) and I've spent about an hour on the phone trying to convince them that it wasn't my fault the b**y changes didn't go through...anyway, they're being quite reasonable now.
Lovely Lentils are lovely, aren't they?
Spots, what is it with adults wanting to give babies tea? All our grandparents do it!
Dd2 has bright red cheeks and MAY have a tooth but unfortunately we haven't unpacked the calgel yet
Looks like I've stopped bf - didn't have enough milk to give a proper feed last night and the same tonight, so I think that might be it - might just give it one more go.
She said "dad" last night - looked straight at him and said it, then repeated it. She stopped babbling and just came out with it!

SusiS · 20/01/2005 07:46

morning morning! bit tired mummy here. woke at 2.30 and couldn't sleep for another hour why????? - ds was quite good, woke at 3 (luckily i was awake anyways) and i could settle him with a bit of stroking! -then at 7 dp woke us both! *hmmmmmm

oh, i bought ds a proper pj yday and he looks soooooo like a big boy in it! very cute

cat: nice the banana mashing, isn't it? messy but nice - hope dp is allright!

judd: good to hear you are doing so much better. i guess even the bestest of mums does feel down sometimes. - well done on the making tea

wow helsy: dp would love to hear lucas say dad! but he keeps saying mumumum mum mum - is he ordering me around already???
don't stick to banana, there are so many other poss fingerfoods, just cook an apple or pear slightly so it gets soft, or a ripe nectarine (ds loves that)

Bozza · 20/01/2005 09:03

Glad you are feeling better Judd. Not long until your DH is back now is it? Also glad you had a nice day Cat (but I'm a day behind aren't I because that was Tuesday).

DD is definitely teething. Bright red cheeks that are very warm to the touch, chewing and dribbling. Tried to put her down at 7.30 after calpol at 6.45 and she was having none of it. Ended up sat on our bed watching the footie with her daddy and clapping. Bless - she looked so cute in a pink horizontal striped sleepsuit and matching cheeks sat there but was still irritated because didn't get her to sleep until 9.30. So that was my evening gone because I went to bed anticipating a bad night but then she slept through until 6.45 by which time I'd already had my shower. So everything back to normal this morning.

Was like you Helsy and planning to cook DD some fish but by 9.30 couldn't be bothered.

Judd · 20/01/2005 14:18

Both nights that DH has been away DS has woken at 4:25. WHY??? How does he know? He just lies there going "bla bla bla bla" and blowing raspberries quite happily but then seems to realise he is awake and doesn't like it, so starts crying like mad. I can ignore it for a bit because I know he's not ill (coz of happiness at the start of the waking) but after a while I just get frustrated at being awake myself and worried he'll wake up DD. And without DH, there's nobody to have a whispered "shall we go in or leave to settle" conversation.
Oh well, at least I've had a good 5 hours' sleep by that time and yes, DH is back tomorrow - guaranteed a hero's welcome at this rate

cat82 · 20/01/2005 17:35

Hello everyone

Well dp as recovered but it was my turn last night!! i've been feeling pretty rough all day, but i went to a mumsnet meet up in town which was good fun.

Judd- Glad you're feeling better Dp and i have that conversation too!

Bozza- We also have the reddness and dribbling, looks like they're both teething at the moment. Kiera woke again last night at 11.00pm which isn't like her, so i'm convinced she's in pain. After calgel and a cuddle she goes back to sleep though.

Susi- I'm having the unable to sleep nights as well, annoying aren't they? After i was ill last night i lay awake for HOURS wondering why i wasn't sleeping. Grrrrrr.
Kiera wears pj's for her lunchtime nap, they look adorable in them don't they

Helsy- Kiera is also saying dada, and dp gets very excited when he hears it, but unfortunaly, the other day she said it to a tree, so he was a bit crushed! Her favourite word in still "baa" though.

Thanks Spots- i am spending alot of time lip smacking at kiera. Thank you for the hug the other day btw, it was indeed warm by the time i got to it Your poor dh!

anyway hope you're all okay
Lots of love

xxxx

kbaby · 20/01/2005 20:28

I posted on sunday but seemed to have lost it.
Anyway the message went something like this.

Cat, Hope you are feeling better.

Still no teeth for my gummy bear yet. Which is probably why theres no finger food. She either mashes it in her hand and wipes it on you or expects you to sit there feeding her bits of toast.
Shes started waving at herself in the mirror now and at everything else really. I think the point of waving when your leaving is lost on her.

Weve also got seperation anxiety. Shes started crying if one of us leave the room. Its a bit of a knightmare as shes crawling so follows you crying and then if you take her ito say the kitchen she manages to put her hands in the cat food, play with the mop, play with cat litter tray, wine bottles and so on. You get the picture. I hope you all have non crawling babies as you need eyes in the back of your head.
Weve progressed from waking fully at night once to half waking 4-6 times. Shes waking for the dummy and once its back in shes off to sleep but its still disturbed sleep. Its got to go by 12 months!
Hope everyones well

spots · 20/01/2005 20:58

Kbaby are you finding she's much more tired now that she's physically active? I am looking forward to that as much as I am not looking forward to the rooting around in forbidden things bit.

Cat you went to another meetup! how ace. Are we still talking about having a 'One Year On' meetup in May? Suppose if so we ought to reiterate our babies' birthdays so that we don't end up trying to meet on a day when somebody ought to be partying. (I will be doing that on the 14th.)

Um Judd I think I do owe you 50p. Can I pay by switch? Lovely lentils, and variations on that theme, are a regular event now. Yumm, and parp.

I cooked little cheese scones with courgette and celeriac in them for DD today and she went for them big time. I gave her one on the bus and the old ladies across the aisle laughed at her big wide open mouth. She now seems to prefer finger food to slop, so I have to think of as many ways as I can to make food groups fisty. Yes, fist food is a better description than finger food. By the time she gets to her bath I can easily find the mashed remains of something that's been in there since lunchtime.

Judd · 20/01/2005 22:47

I don't remember DD getting more tired when she started crawling, I think she just stayed the same...which sounds a bit daft now because I know she did lose quite a bit of weight because of it.
On the subject of crawling, or mobility in general, I am fed up of people coming to tell me anecdotes about "bigger babies" they have known! All the BBs seem to display freakish tendencies - they either walk at 8 months ("they have bigger brains because they're bigger") or they don't move a muscle until about 18 months ("they're just soooooo big they can't move"). Nobody knows a bog standard BB that just did things during the normal parameters. I just wish a mum would come up panting under the weight of a BB and whisper conspiratorially "bloody heavy, aren't they?" rather than somebody dangling a whippet-like babe in a carry seat in the crook of their elbow (think Ann Maurice and her handbag )and asking about his weight, before nodding at their child (invariably 6 months old) and saying "she's trying to crawl already....NIGHTMARE"
Sorry, I'm probably banging on now so will shut up. Have had couple of glasses of wine at babysitting circle meeting (had to get a babysitter so I could go)so will not be welcoming any 4:20 shenanigans!
Spots - you keep your 50p and buy yourself something nice. I recommend a family Galaxy bar. If you've got mush to use up, could you dip finger food in it - then everyone's a winner.

Casmie · 21/01/2005 09:12

throws hands up in the air

Well, I don't know whether it's teeth or separation anxiety or something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT to throw into the mix. All I know is that ds2 now won't let me put him down for a second without screaming blue murder even if I stay in the same room. And going to sleep at nap/bedtime??? HAH! Thought you'd get some time off, didn't you mummy?!!!

Then I feel mean when I stomp up AGAIN to check that he hasn't wedged himself into a corner because his little tear-filled eyes light up when I walk back in.

egypt · 21/01/2005 11:14

oh casmie - what's going on!??

dd is a nightmare sleeper again. she woke at 945, 10, 1030 until 1115, screaming blue murder. quietens when i put her music on.... wakes once its stops, so i put it on continuous, woke 120, 320, 650, arrrrghhhhhhh

she doesnt do cots in the day so might have to do a bit of cc there. elizabeth pants is pants at the moment. cant get past stage one where you put them down when they are almost asleep. in fact, think we are stage minus one, where you put them down ASLEEP.

OP posts:
Casmie · 21/01/2005 13:14

Aw Egypt Sounds like you're having a really rough time.

Ds2 is running a slight temperature again. Assuming another tooth on the way but also don't know whether to take him to the doctor's just in case. It just feels like he's been miserable forever.
