108 pounds later and I am unblocked...but they think it may be our neighbours ivy causing problems.

cazzybabs · 08/04/2008 12:12

Caz she does 11 - 4ish normally, but last night she was up about 1 and it felt like she was awake for a long time.

IT was probably my fault because I was tyrein to trite (badly) and application for a job due in today and finished it about 12.00 and then went to bed late with ehr.

Caz10 · 08/04/2008 12:18

argh that's rubbish! do you get on ok with them?

cazzybabs · 08/04/2008 12:22

we do get on well. i suspect we just pay it and hope next time they pay it.

Wizzska · 08/04/2008 12:39

Cazzy - I can sympathise with you. My little one had a terrible night last night, would n't sleep after 3.00 and has been wanting to sleep all morning. He's also not that interested in food at the moment.

Hello

Caz10 Re the sleeping through - my dd sleeps through and she is nearly 17 weeks old. She was a big baby when she was born (8lb 5.5 oz) and was on 75th centile but the last time she was weighed, about 3 weeks ago, she was 13lb 1 oz and weight gain has slowed down, she is now on 25th centile. She is exclusively bf though so that is probably why.

Don't know if this is any help. I think we are just really lucky with dd as the hv said it was unusual for a bf baby to sleep through at that age.

MamaMaiasaura · 08/04/2008 14:23

not sure if size related either, samuel was 8lb14oz whenb born and was 15lb7 on Thursday. Not regularly sleeping through, but sleeping through more than not. Slept from 8.30 till 5.30 last night (my boobs were solid!). Had to take him to dr today as lots of bright yellow stuff came out of ear (not wax) and smelt sickly sweet. Also he doesnt seem right, got a cough and cold anyway and had temperature. Has ear infection got some ear drops as thankfully ear drum intact. If doesnt clear in a few days back to drs. Got a upset tum too. Big brother is being very kind and patient though even though it means we are housebound.

Cazzy - ouch re the £108, is your neighbour going to sort out ivy?

MamaMaiasaura · 08/04/2008 14:26

he was 14 weeks on Thursday

suey2 · 08/04/2008 15:40

clairey ROFL about your dream! Don't worry about not being PC- i don't think i am supposed to refer to myself as caucasian any more- isn't it supposed to be white british? I can assure you that i am neither 6' 4 or speak in a chinese accent!

Sorry about all the colds and disturbed sleeps. Millie was better last night now back at home, but was still awake at 11, 3.30, 4.45, 5.30 and then from 6. She didn't need feeding, though and settled herself within 10 mins until the 5.30 am when i foolishly went to her and stuffed her dummy in. It doesn't work so well any more, so i am going to try and wean her off it, too- or get non-newborn teats if it doesn'y work.

Bouncingturtle · 08/04/2008 15:42

Hi everyone, just woken up after ds and I had a long nap.
Awen - your poor ds, ear infections are not nice! Hope it clears up quickly.
Ds not sleeping through, his pattern now seems to be 7.30-10.30, with wakes up at 2am, 4am and 6am. I really feel that at the 2am he isn't taking a lot but won't be soothed back to sleep, so am going to try and wake him up more at that feed (probably by undressing him and changing his bum this seems to be most effective!) to see if he'll take more then hopefully he might not wake at 4am.
Oh and he is 9th percentile and has been pretty much since he was born, though last weigh in he was half way between 2nd and 9th. I've found some weight charts on the WHO website here if anyone is interested, my HV wasn't able to supply any charts for bfed babies.

Ambi · 08/04/2008 15:56

Back from 3rd jabs today, It was so exhausting we had to back to sleep for an hour. Ok so DD was fine, but they make her sleepy and I could feel a cold coming on this morning, felt so lovely to crawl back into bed for a bit this afternoon. No jabs until 12 months woohoo, I thought it was again at 6 months. Aww Cazzy, that sucks, Mat pay doesn't go far at all does it? Does the HMRC send out paperwork to check incomes for last year and this?

MamaMaiasaura · 08/04/2008 16:08

thanks for sympathy and link bouncingturtle he is asleep in my arms again which appears to be his most favourite place.

MamaMaiasaura · 08/04/2008 16:09

did anyone see that thread on rear facing car seats? Apparantly much safer than forward facing but can only get them abroad for older babies atm. considering getting one shipped.

Bouncingturtle · 08/04/2008 16:17

Ambi - good to hear jabs went ok, we've still got 3rd set to go.
Awen - aww, my ds often falls asleep in me too. Sleep is what your ds needs now.

Caz10 · 08/04/2008 16:56

afternoon all!

our night last night was down at 8.30, then feeds at 11.30, 2.30, 5.30 and up at 7 wanting to start the day! Luckily DH was about today, so I shoved her at him at 7 and went back to bed until 8.30!

so i guess she is sleeping more than some and less than others.. i just feel we've lost the 5hr stretch - it always varied when she did it, but i could rely on getting that longer stretch of sleep...no more!

BT how much does your DH actually weigh then?

Awen DD finds sticking her tongue out v funny too, although not as funny as...farting in the bath! classy lady my daughter!

Ouch to ear infection, that is rotten, hope the wee one is not suffering too much.

We have 3rd jags tomorrow, she hasn't been affected too much by the other ones, so hoping that continues.

Our car seat just now is rear facing, but you're right I've never seen the next size up in anything other than front facing...will go look for that thread.

hope everyone well!

Lizzer · 08/04/2008 17:04

Hello everyone, gahd- you leave this thread for a couple of days and it takes a day's reading to catch up! (Not that its an unpleasurable task i might add )

Suey, thanks for getting back to me re flights. I think we'll be ok bfing on plane as hopefully will all be able to sit together (me, dp and dd) so if i have the window seat it should be fairly private-i don't know what the 'rules' are for bfing on a plane but knowing rynair's policy for charging for any extras they'll probably have a wet nursing air stewardess available for 50 euros LOL! Fingers crossed he won't scream for 2 hours anyway, i bet your dd will be so used to flying by the time she's a toddler, you prob won't have any hassles with her

Awen, have you got a link re carseats? I hope your ds is on the mend soon...

Ambi, wow i can't wait to get these jabs over with for a while too, lucky you.. Insy, i don't even want to take ds for his 2nd ones next week he was sooooohorrible and grumpy after the 1st so ikwym

Sleeping, hmm, still not cracked it-nowhere near i don't think but its easy just to snuggle him in with us and let him comfort suck while i fall back to sleep-he generally does 8.30-3 or 4, feed then put him back in crib but then the next waking he comes in with us until we get up around 8ish. i did this with dd and she was sleeping through by 10 months..i almost can't be bothered to get annoyed but when i've had a really bad night i get stressed..i think i'd be more bothered if i had to go back to work soon as tiredness is not a great state to be in.....

Caz10, just don't think size/food is the issue sorry, ds is 15w and 91st centile and has a ff last thing-some lo's are just less settled, also i've never left ds to cry so maybe a bit of self settling would help however i'm just too soft..and hate loud noise (bodes well for having a boy ) I think i could do sleep training/cc with a much older baby but not right now..

One thing i'm quite happy with is that because his last feed is a bottle and he's started going down awake i could, in theory, not be around from 6ish...now if only i had somewhere exciting to go, ha ha

cazzy, sorry about your house troubles-i hate spending money on stuff like that...

Skid-LOL I have a toned body under my fat too

Buzzy, i'd love to hear the babytalk too! Ds's are so precise and very determined, its sooo funny to listen to..its one of those 'its all worthwhile' moments

Hope you're feeling better today wobbe.. Yeah its weird how the achy-ness is hitting us all at the same time too!

Wizzska · 08/04/2008 17:46

I love the baby talk too. My favourite is DS when he's grumpy and moaning and he always says 'ning ning' when he's crying.

I breast fed DS on the plane to Edinburgh. It was fine. I was by a window though and DH sat next to me on the way and way back. First flight was easy, the other person in our row was another mother, on the way back it was a business man so a bit more awkward. Mind you, I'm used to getting my tits out everywhere these days.

kelbel · 08/04/2008 19:45

lizzer - i'm also thinking should i be starting think about encouraging him to self settle. by 'encouraging' suppose i mean leaving him to cry - but i cant bear the thought of it at the mo, has anyone else done this? is it too early? don't know if i could or will do it just interested

insywinsyspider · 08/04/2008 19:53

kelbel - hv said if you do controlled crying leave them for 10mins at the longest, we did it with ds1 at 12 wks and it worked really well, haven't needed to do it with ds2 - we do baby whisper shush-pat instead

after my down message yesterday we've had a great day - dug out baby whisperer book, Toby slept 7-6am and today on a 4 hour routine, he's a different baby having ditched the dummy on Thurs he also refused it today and has found his fingers and prefers them, feel like we may have turned a corner

awen - sorry to hear about your ds

Caz10 · 08/04/2008 20:15

oooh well done Insy! We are still quite random and routine-less here I fear, also dd is still hungry every 2-3hrs - BUT she is a contented little soul so I guess I can't complain (although I do, frequently, ha!).

Kelbel the book "No Cry Sleep Solution" is mentioned on MN quite a lot, I've had a quick flick through and it looks v g - offers a "softer" approach to controlled crying etc.

Can I ask others to share bedtimes? Seems to be quite a difference so far!!

Hope everyone has had a lovely day!

dundeemarmalade · 08/04/2008 20:42

evening all.
so glad ours not the only one waking up regularly in the night. she doesn't want feeding most of the time (or goes back to sleep if dummy put in ) between dream feed and 5 o;clock. there is a daily battle between my paranoia about her being a little titch (hovering around 9th centile line) and my knackeredness. dh was doing a night feed but for some reason we stopped this. i think she wasn't taking more than 20ml so wasn't really worth it. now we just have to get her out of swaddling blanket and off the dummy.

am too disorganised to organise anything properly, but as the marmalade household are making a trip to london on thursday, i would like to announce that i will be loitering around at the front of the natural history museum on exhibition road on tuesday morning (15th) at 11:30 am if anybody would care to join me for coffee/a trog round the dinosaurs. entry is free, i think. i'll be the one with the baby...

dundeemarmalade · 08/04/2008 20:43

dearie me, that should be the marmalade household IS making a trip. and to think we're going to the london book fair!

claraquitetirednow · 08/04/2008 20:48

Caz - dd2 goes down at about 6.45- she has a bath at six then a bottle then bed. For the last few nights she has stayed asleep, dream-fed at about 10 and then awake again some time in the early hours.

Insy - glad to hear things are going well. We also ditched the dummy at the weekend and she seems a lot more settled. She did wake in the night last night (after a feed), but she was just singing and talking so we left her and she went back to sleep after about 10 minutes. It's such a relief after all the ups and downs putting the dummy back in all night.

Kelbel - we have sort of done controlled crying, it was the only way to wean her off the dummy (depserate measures - I was so tired from getting up all the time I was getting dizzy and light-headed in the day). HOWEVER, I do think whether you can do cc at this point does depend on the baby. I couldn't have done it with dd1 just yet, as she was obviously very unhappy when she woke. However Martha doesn't really cry, she sort of moans and grizzles and makes that creaky door sound. If she gets really worked up, like she did this evening, I will go in and pick her up and comfort her until she goes to sleep. I couldn't leave her too long if she was obviously in distress, not at this age.

Lizzer - lol at wet nurse on the plane! We took dd1 all the way to jamaica (approx 9 hour flight) when she was 5 months and it was fine. I wasn't breastfeeding but bottle fed her on take off and landing, then just played with her between her naps. She cried quite a lot as we were coming in to land but that was probabaly through tiredness. On the night-flight on the way home she slept the whole way. Where are you going?

We got our stuff through for Centreparcs today, really looking forward to it. Someone on here was going to the same one we are going to - Longleat - but I can't remember who. Whoever you were, did you enjoy it?

claraquitetirednow · 08/04/2008 20:50

Oh no I KNOW after writing that she'll wake in the night and not re-settle. She's got acold coming so bound to.

Caz10 · 08/04/2008 21:04

have a great time dundee! how often is your dd waking up then?

i guess if dd is ONLY waking to feed, and going straight back to sleep, I could hang on to a glimmer of hope that once she can go without the feed she might be a good sleeper? [another clutching at straws emotion]...

lol to the creaky door sound! that is what dd does in the day when going off for a nap in her pram. at night sadly she goes from silent to full scale fire alarm incredibly quickly!
