Macdoodle - Very of 4 hours child free time btw

MamaMaiasaura · 19/05/2008 21:30

Hello everyone How has everything been? Just had a quick scan but brain like jelly atm. Have been popping on mnet now and then but not been following postnatal threads. Felt that i was prob pissing people off abit with how i am trying to do things this time around, although i might be just being over sensitive.

Ds2 now 20 weeks, was 17lb10oz last weighed and is a content and lovely little boy. LOts of laughs and smiles and loud noises. Is still excl bfed, every 3 hours or thereabouts atm. The night time feeds have increased and he is going at the most 5 hours at night. He is still co-sleeping so not to much distruption. He also has a cold so lots of snuffles, big brother is full of cold too.

Saw dr about next baby today and need to go back in October to be referred again. Might not be able to receive treatment tilll finished bfeeding. Raises a dilemma and want to continue feeding ds2 for as long he wants.

buzzybee · 20/05/2008 08:44

Suey its actually not too bad getting to Stansted from Pimlico if you leave at 6am you'll be there by 7am. We used to drive and park in the big lon-stay car-park with the shuttle service to the terminal 5 min drive down the road. You just drive through east London past Tower etc and get on the ??A13 is it? Pretty horrid getting up at 5am but if you have everything organised the night before its just a matter of bundling DD into the car and off you go. Try and keep your capsule with you until the door of the plane when they take it and put it in the hold. I much preferred going from Stansted to either Gatwick or Luton for ease of driving, and I prefer to drive to the airport with all the baby bumf you need to take (but then who'd drive to Gatwick when you live next to Victoria Station?!)

suey2 · 20/05/2008 10:46

clara, thanks for asking - we are off to santiago de compostela for the long weekend. Buzzy, we have acutally decided to stay at stansted overnight- hotel 2 min walk away - as dh insisting on getting to the airport for 6am.

My wii fit has arrived but i haven't had chance to try it out yet! I ordered it from amazon.

claireybee · 20/05/2008 13:32

Clara I was VERY bored yesterday, well more frustrated than anything cos I couldn't do anything! DS wouldn't even settle in the sling which has never happened before-he wanted to be in my arms and everytime I got him to sleep and tried to put him down he instantly woke up again. Still I did a big online shop and sorted out some bank stuff whilst glued to the sofa so not an entire waste of time!

Skid he was fairly bad over weekend too but I didnt notice so much cos I wasn't on my own with him. STill, he is napping in his cot now so better today!

Awen I don't think you had pissed anyone off? And tbh other than the fact that you officially cosleep whereas I just bring ds in with me when I can't be bothered to get out of bed anymore I don't think you are doing things that differently to me are you? DS is still exclusively breastfed and I'm waiting to wean until 6 months as are a few others.

Suey wow Millie is quite a jetsetter already! Is looking like our first flight with the dc will be the really long one to Botswana-that will be fun. not.

BouncingTurtle · 20/05/2008 14:00

Awen you haven't pissed me off either!

Forgot to say, went to new bfing group. DS was the oldest at nearly 21 weeks, there was one baby that was born 9 weeks premature and another lady who brought along her dc no. 8!!! I told her she must be an expert so will be relying on her for advice . She was really nice, told us a funny story about how she was chucked out of a Baker's Oven for breastfeeding lol!
Also made it to the Baby Cafe, they had lots of lovely food, fruit, cheese, croissants, bread and pate!
Picked up loads of info about weaning too.

Finished the Baby Massage course, if you haven't done one look out for on at your local SureStart centre, well worth doing IMO.
Hope it is sunny where everyone is today, gorgeous here - though it was baking hot in the baby massage room!

skidaddle · 20/05/2008 14:09

suey - I used to live in santiago! Have you been before? It is sooo beautiful but also sooo rainy - hope you have a fantastic time - the gallegos love their fellow celts so you should be OK!

awen - i don't think you p*ssed anyone off either - it sounds like you are doing brilliantly and your DS is thriving. And you should be very very proud that your DS is still ex BF

dundee - I think every day is a must if you do decide to persevere - when we were doing it with DS we didn't give him a bottle over a weekend and had to start all over again - although it didn;t take as long the second time round. Good luck with whatever you decide - maybe a cup rather than a bottle is another option?

well DH and I did 2 hours work as planned and I have to admit we got a lot done (both working on our PhDs) so I suppose it is a good idea. Also we taped Corrie and watched it afterwards as a post-phD treat so it wasn't all bad - what kind of life do i have when watching Corrie on video is a treat???

clara and anyone else whose baby goes to bed before their older child - does this mean you bath your DCs separately? Or else what do you do with your older DC while the little one is having their last feed (assuming they have one post-bath)?

8 weeks to go clara - eek - how are you feeling about it? What are you doing with your house and furniture and everything? It must be very stressful organising everything...

fifi - another boy?! Wow - I would be afraid of all that testosterone in one house!

skidaddle · 20/05/2008 14:17

hi bouncing, glad your BF group was such a success and at the mother of 8!!

I wanted to baby massage with Sure Start too but DS will be 6 months and one week when the next course starts and the limit is 6 months, oh well. I think it's better when they're really little anyway

claraquitetirednow · 20/05/2008 14:37

Hi Skid - well done on doing two hours of work last night! Don't worry, the most exciting part of my day is usually EastEnders or Lost or Heroes or the Apprentice. Especially now I am on a diet and can't even really look forward to a decent meal and a glass of wine in the evening

We are hoping to rent our house out furnished. The agents have told us we shouldn't have a problem as it is in a very good location and close to probably the best primary school in Cheltenham (you will recall my thread about sending my dd's to a primary school with CofE connections; well it's that one!). Also because of what's happening with house sales, more people are likely to be renting for a while - my dh heard yesterday that while house prices will be dropping by around 40%, rental prices will go up by the same amount (hopeful emoticon).

I have my stressed moments, but we are quite organised. Also my dh is doing a preliminary trip to Islamabad in a few weeks time which should help us with lots of the questions we have. Apparently the house we're going into already has broadband installed so that's one problem solved

On the question of bathing: we bath them at the same time, it's a lot easier now that dd2 can sit up in the bath, then dh gets dd2 out and dresses her, feeds her (which is of course easier now that I am no longer breatfeeding, but this is when we used to give a bottle of EBM when I was) and puts her to bed while I deal with dd1 (and he then usually cooks supper!). When I have done it on my own I do them together, get dd2 out and dress her next to the bath, get dd1 out and put her in her dressing gown, take them both downstairs, put Peppa Pig on for dd1 while I feed dd2 and put her to bed then get dd1 ready for bed. How did you find it on your own? I do find the evenings between 5 and 7pm the hardest.

Claireybee - I hope your ds is a little better today. I had dd2 screaming her way around Cheltenham town centre this morning, she really isn't a happy bunny. Have dosed her up with teething gel and she's now asleep.....BTW ho old will your LO's be when you take them to Botswana? Let me know if you want any tips for taking two on a plane - I should be quite the expert in about 8 weeks time!!!

BT - from your description of the food at the baby cafe I'm assuming you are not still doing Slimming World Mind you if you are still exclusively BF then I don't think you should be dieting - well at least that was my excuse!

Suey - I hope you enjoy your break. Excuse my ignorance but is Santiago de Compestella in Spain?? (Skid again: you get around don't you!).

skidaddle · 20/05/2008 15:23

Hi clara,

I was going to ask you about losing weight - is the diet working? How are you finding it? I am so sick of being this weight now - i have never been this big in my life and I haven't lost anything since DS was about 3 weeks old I know I shouldn't diet and I am exercising so now I am terified I will be this size forever. I am only a size 12 so I know I shouldn't complain but all my clothes are size 8-10 and I just don't look right - I suppose when i stop BF at least my boobs will disappear - they are much too matronly for my liking!

That will be nice to have your house to come back to as well as being less hassle to rent it out. Sounds like you have everything under control anyway. have you told your DD1 about it yet? Do you think she understands and will be OK with it? We moved to Tanzania when I was 2.5 and my mum says I didn't really even notice we were in a different place! I also learned Swahili in a matter of months apparently so maybe you wil have two bilingual daughters by Christmas!

I see what your secret is with the bathtime thing - Peppa Pig!! I couldn't do that because my DD would never sit by herself downstairs. ATM I have been BF DS while I read DD her bedtime story but it is very awkward and I would rather he went down before she did because I think she gets really jealous that he is up when she is in bed even though it's only for about 20 mins.. hmm will have to have a think about what else I can try...

Santiago de Compostela is in Spain btw - north-west corner

Hope your DD2 feels better soon

fifisworld · 20/05/2008 15:58

I'm also depressed on the weight front.
Im the same as you skid, probably a 12 on the bottom but my clothes are all 8-10 and im so pee'd off with it. I feel so disgusting, even though i knw im not that bad, ive just never been this big before

I have a little bath seat that i got for ds1 and i tried it on ethan the other day but he didnt like it at all, he prefers to be lying back in the water, so i take him in with me most of the time. Haven't bathed ds1 and Ethan together yet as ds1 likes to have a splash around so might be to rough if he's in with Ethan.

skidaddle · 20/05/2008 16:11

fifi it was actually your post saying that you were in the ideal BMI category that got me thinking about my weight again, I know it isn't that important in the grand scheme of things, and I am also a healthy weight, but it just makes me feel horrid and unattractive. Have you done anything to try to lose weight? I'm hoping it will all drop off at 6 months as lots of people have told me that happens.

A bath seat is a great idea although DS isn't too far from sitting up alone now so it seems a bit of a waste of money at this stage. When do you have a bath with Ethan? I would never fancy a bath except after both DCs are in bed and I can have some peace!

Speaking of peace, oh to go to the toilet alone again... yesterday DD came up with me and was peering between my legs saying, mummy doing a poo? Mummy doing big big poo?mummy, why you have hairy on your fanny? Mummy have fanny or willy? etc etc and I just thought, ONE DAY I will be able to have a sh*t with the door locked behind me and no running commentary and please please let that day be soon!

Amani · 20/05/2008 16:17

Been away for a few days and miss so much..

Lol at skid's DD.....no what are you to say to all of that??

fifisworld · 20/05/2008 16:28

Skid - I've been trying to eat healthily the last couple of weeks and try to excercise but just dont get the time, its so hard. I wish it would just drop off one day when i get up
I have been doing the Special k diet which worked for me before but isn't doing anything this time.

I take Ethan in the bath after his tea before bed, so about 7ish, then dp gets him ready and puts him to bed while i have a soak.
I think i got my bath seat from a shop from ebay, was only a couple of pound and will probably use it when ethan can sit up on his own .

claireybee · 20/05/2008 16:36

Only 8 weeks Clara?! Wow! Good news about the broadband, will help you feel less isolated and means we won't lose you too!

Gosh I do hope that isn't right about rentals, we'll be in dire straights if it is (although is good for you and any other landlords!)

Skid I get a commentary too "mummy yuk" is how dd refers to my privates

BT baby cafe sounds good! All that yummy food!

claireybee · 20/05/2008 16:41

That also just reminded me of a funny conversation I had with dd on Sunday, last week one day she was walking around with a pair of my knickers on, on sunday I was getting dressed and put the same knickers on she said "No mummy my knickers, Caiela's blue knickers mummy, take off my knickers mummy" then looked at my bum and said "Oh no! where's it gone? Where's the knickers? Too small mummy!"

It was a thong you see...

Amani · 20/05/2008 17:20

Lol at Clairy's DD

Fifi - Trying to do the Special K diet to, but it all went down the pan yesterday when I had a Pizza Hut buffest for lunch (come on, you got to have more than 8 slices of pizza to make it worth while.... )..

BouncingTurtle · 20/05/2008 17:48

Claraq - I'm still SWing, I had some fruit and a croissant (9.5 syns ).
I'm currently a very matronly Size 18, trying to get down to a 14 for November for my friend's wedding. Just making sure I have loads of free foods, all my healthy extras and all my syns! Have lost 10lbs so far, not a huge amount but wanting to take it slow.

claraquitetirednow · 20/05/2008 20:09

BT - it's hard but keep at it! I found that when I stopped bf'ing I actually lost quite a lot of weight. Since then I have lost about 6 more lbs (with a little blip last week when we were on holiday), so nearly a stone. I would love to lose about 8 more lbs before we go but we have so many meals out, weekends away etc before then it's going to be hard going....

Claireybee and Skid - lol at your dd's! My biggest problem at the moment is the fact that now my periods have come back I have to deal with all that, last time I had a period dd1 was too little to really understand anything. So far I have managed to avoid the issue by distracting her but I know that one day soon the question will come: Mummy what's that? What are you doing? Why does it have blood on it? I'd like to stick that in my bottom one day when I'm bigger etc etc etc....

FiFi/Skid - I wouldn't panic about weight if I were you; I'm only desperately dieting because I don't want to have to buy a whole load of clothes at the next size up before we leave and also I will almost certainly be spending quite a lot of time in a swimsuit very soon. I've actually now lost all of my pregnancy weight but need to tone up badly. Hence the wish for a wii fit!

cazzybabs · 20/05/2008 20:15

Suey - am very jealous of your holiays.

Evie is really rolling now - although mainly in 1 direction and then gets stuck on a wall and then gets very cross! She is still very sicky.

My friend has just told me she having her 1st - am very broody

claraquitetirednow · 20/05/2008 20:27

Hi me again (filling in time while DH watches the Wire) - does anyone know where Wizzska has gone? Have we lost her to her Wii?

And who wants to start a new thread? I can't think of a suitably witty title but am thinking something to do with teething????

cazzybabs · 20/05/2008 20:28

Oh god - yes to one about teething - Evie was sooo wet this morning from dribble...no ideas though. Am not witty enough

macdoodle · 20/05/2008 20:32

God the teething my poor little babe has been miserable all day - wakes herself up crying - fed her to sleep tonight and sat cuddling for a while when she was asleep - every now and then her little face screwed up in pain and she wined heartbreaking Asleep now but her cheeks are bright red and puffy where is this bloody tooth!!

cazzybabs · 20/05/2008 20:34

I think my children are just a bit thick - apart from the dribble teething never seems to bother them (mind you having said that Evie will curse me and be miserable)

macdoodle · 20/05/2008 20:41

Its horrid to see Lil like this she is usually such a lovely smiley placid baby - not a grizzly wining miserable one
Mind we had a bath together tonight (to see if I could settle her) - she flung herself across my belly and latched onto my boob facedown and had a mouth full of bath water along with the milk very cute
Distracted her for a bit and had some smiles and gurgles Given her some calpol and hope she gets some sleep she must be knackered
