OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
insywinsyspider · 01/05/2008 20:21

clairey - am not all that strong for not feeding in night its more that dh work on a one night on one night off policy so can't really mess ds around, if he seems starving I will feed him, but most of time he just can't seem to settle himself, he needs to find his thumb or something, we end up patting his nappy for bout 20 mins which doesn't sound like much but is a killer 3 times a night! I'm starting to think something is not right with his stomach though, when ex bf he'd have 1 poo every couple of weeks and now he's on one bottle of formula, some baby rice and a little fruit puree its still only once a week... now that doesn't sound right to me.... how often do your lo's go?

cazzy - I've got chartership interview in couple of weeks and no suit/smart clothes that fit - if you find the perfect outfit let me know
lizzer - did see a lovely cropped jacket in next but not sure I could justify the cost for one interview (unless I fail and then I'll have to go back next year...)

claraquitetirednow · 01/05/2008 20:59

Insy - dd2 poos at least 1x per day, sometimes (often) 2x. Funny green poo, like green clay! She is also now exclusively ff and on some solids. We don't feed her at night (unless she seems very hungry) but are lucky, she has slept through for 8 nights running (oh oh having said that she'll wake tonight).

Beckle - a balloon ride! How wonderful. I did one years ago when I was working as a local journalist. It was absolutely fantastic. What a great idea for a present.

Anyone else with a toddler having the whole jeoulousy over toys issue? Dd2 spends her whole time trying to grab dd1's toys and gets really upset when we take them away. Dd1 is very possessive of them. Anyone whose been through this with older children got any advice? I can see the whole next couple of years being about me policing the two of them.....

gotta go, Heroes starting....

cazzybabs · 01/05/2008 21:09

well actually my interview was today. I had bought a lovely skirt from White stuff - very summery which would have been perfect...had it not rained!!! So I found an old black skirt hidden in my wardrobe which just about did up and a shirt to fit my norks! And went!!!

It was OK but I was out of interview practise so I am not hopefully. I don't really like my boss - she scares me (although I told her today in interview I want her job) so if I don't get it I wont be gutted and its not any more money!

insywinsyspider · 01/05/2008 22:12

even so cazzy fingers crossed it went ok.

clara - that to me sounds normal for poo's - ds1 was a one a day man, I would go and ask HV but she is fecking useless... not really the kind of thing I can take him to docs for either as whilst is seems to make him uncomfortable it doesn't make him ill, or is one a week the sign of something wrong...

BouncingTurtle · 02/05/2008 06:55

Morning!
Had a brilliant night last night!
Was going out for a meal with my friends from the AN class, and we'd arranged to meet at 8pm as 2 of us have difficulties with los not taking bottles. Anyway, thought we had it resolved bottlewise, as DH gave him a bottle on Saturday while I was shopping.
DH came home from work and almost immediately I passed ds over to him saying he was tired, get him ready for bath and bed, while I got ready.
He took him upstairs and then he came back down saying he was wide awake, so played with him. But i could see he was tired so told DH to get him ready for his bath. So he took him usptairs. And ds was NOT happy. He screamed when DH undressed him, stopped screaming when he was in the bath, then screamed when DH got him out of the bath. DH tried to give him bottle of EBM I'd warmed for him earlier and he screamed and refused to suck, kept looking around the room for me. So as I had just got out of the shower I bfed him. He then filled his nappy so again screamed while DH changed his nappy. DH then gave him the bottle which he drank down then proceed to scream until, yep you guessed it, I bfed him again! Then he was calm to Dh got him into his sleeping bag and put him in his cot, and DH soothed him to sleep by singing to him while I finished getting ready and went out.
Got home at 10:15, ds still asleep (normally wakes up for a feed around this time0. Got into bed at 10:30 to read, at 11:15 he was still asleep so decided to take my chances and go to sleep. I woke up at 1am, and he was still aleep . Inserted hand inside sleeping bag, nappy not leaked (I had intended to change his nappy at my bedtime to a bigger one). 15mins later, he stirred so decided to feed him as I was awake. Feed, change, feed, all the while ds was half asleep, put him back in his cot and he didn't wake up again until 5:20! Feed, poo, nappy change and he was ready to play so got up with him as I was awake! He is now dozing in his bouncy chair
Now you watch, the next 6 weeks he'll be back to waking up every 2 hours
Funnily enough, one of the ladies I went out with emailed to say her ds(bf, crap sleeper like Daniel) had had a good night too!
Sorry that was a bit long!
Beckle- wow you lucky thing, balloon flight sounds fab!
Cazzy - fingers crossed that your interview was successful! So it's the same money but I guess better prospects?
Claraq, we had an issue with dss, we have a big fleecy blanket that he used to use for naps downstairs, or when he was cold, hasn't used it for ages and I've been putting on the floor for ds to lie on to give him some room to (maybe!) roll over, and inevitably it gets covered in baby sick and he was upset about that. But that's it. We've told dss that he doesn't need the blanket anymore but ds does and he was fine with it. Because there is such a big age gap between them(nearly 7 years), dss's toys are kept well away from ds as they are not suitable for small babies - i.e. little cars, lego etc.
Insy - I don't think it is unheard of for some babies not to poo very often, have you started a thread about it anywhere? My ds poos 2-3 times a day.

suey2 · 02/05/2008 12:47

hello all,
i have pneumonia. Bugger. I think after my flu at the weekend i went into work a couple of days and i just should have stayed at home. SAdly i had no choice. Feel a lot better having had anitbiotics for the last day.

Cazzy good luck- although it sounds like you're not fussed it is always good to get the things you go for.

pooing- millie is really random. she can not go for 6 days, then 3 times in a day.

BouncingTurtle · 02/05/2008 13:46

Suey - poor you I hope you feel better soon!

skidaddle · 02/05/2008 14:56

oh my goodness suey - you poor thing, hope you continue to feel better

insy - DS poos about once every 5 days on average but sometimes goes more or less often - think 10 days is his record. I'm not worried at all but he is still ex-BF so i agree I would expect a bit more frequency once on solids. However, if he seems fine in himself and in no discomfort I wouldn;t worry

clara - I can totally see that happening with my DC. DD is already very territorial about all her stuff and once DS can grab things off her I think she will be very perturbed. I don't know what i would do about it - I suppose you have to give them equal turns? How wearying to be constantly taking note of who has had the rattle/toy train and for how long

BT - congrats and on the good night! You certainly deserve a good night as does clairey

clairey - how did the show go - was DS OK?

cazzy - crossed fingers for your interview

Bedtime question for those with 2+ DCs: does anyone's baby go to bed before their older child and how did you manage to engineer this? I can't get DS to sleep before 8pm. DD goes to bed at 7pm but I always have to rush her story to get down to feed DS, plus I would like them both in bed as early as possible anyway! Any tips on how to get DS to go to bed earlier? I have tried putting him down earlier but he just wakes up at 7.45/8pm for his last feed, even if I have just fed him

Isn't it a gorgeous day? DS has his sunhat on and everything

claraquitetirednow · 02/05/2008 15:15

Hi Skid - yes it's a lovely day here too, although we don't seem to be making the most of it as we were at soft play this morning and the dentist this afternoon (tip for anyone taking their toddler for the first time: there is a Peppa Pig episode where she goes to the dentist, this was very useful preperation!).

Bedtimes: dd2 goes down about 20minutes before dd1 usually (eg about 6.45) - she is just knackered at that point and usually falls asleep either during or just after her post-bath feed. It's just happened that way. She doesn't usually nap after 4.30pm - does ds have a late day time nap? If so could you cut it out so that he was really tired at bedtime? Unfortunately I think all babies are different and some are just tired then. The pay back for us is that she always wakes up around 6am!!!!

Suey - poor you, what a nightmare! I hope you feel better soon and that Millie doesn't catch it.

skidaddle · 02/05/2008 15:32

wow clara - did she open her mouth and let the dentist see? My DD clamped hers shut the whole time

Good idea about the afternoon nap although DH has him in the afternoon and don;t think he would be keen on keeping him awake as it means more work for him..

Have just asked someone in my department if I can have a room for expressing when I come back officially. He sent an email to all the technicians telling them to find me somewhere for my "motherly activities"!!! Could he not just say expressing. Now they are all taking the p*ss. One of them even said, "just give him a bottle man" - so much for positive attitudes towards BF in the workplace!

claraquitetirednow · 02/05/2008 16:09

PMSL at "motherly activities"!!!!

claraquitetirednow · 02/05/2008 16:10

Yes, she did actually open her mouth, she is quite good at doing what other people ask her to do, but not me. We're having a lot of "discipline" issues at the moment around things like going to bed, turning off the tv etc. Partly because, I think, she has just dropped her afternoon nap so is now very tired in the day time.....

fifisworld · 02/05/2008 16:23

Ok..im going to attempt to keep up with you's this time if you'll have me back??

suey - Sorry to hear your ill, hope your feeling better soon

Theres no way i'll be able to catch up with what ive missed so sorry if i seem ignorant

Things are going really well here with Ethan. I started giving him solids a couple of weeks ago with the intention of a couple of spoon fulls with his bedtime bottle...but he had other ideas.
He ate a full weetabix on his first time and now can easily have a full weetabix, rice pudding and a bottle before bed
He was weighed yesterday and is 17lb 2oz at 19 weeks!!!
Sleeps through in his own room now from 8pm ish until about 7, and i think he's teething coz he's chewing his fingers until they are red!

We have booked our wedding for Nov next year so have been busy planning that and we've just come back from Disneyland Paris as it was DS1's 2nd birthday on Tuesday so we've been full of busy!!

kelbel · 02/05/2008 18:10

poo - ds goes at least once a day, he's ex bf - well with the intro of a tiny bit baby rice - which is going very well.

suey - sorry you're not well, cant imagine looking after lo when poorly! although i suppose if i can manage after section...and dh is great, hope oure getting help

aw, ds now in pushchair instead of pram, likes it much better, he will now actually sit awake where as he used to sceam as soon as he woke up

BouncingTurtle · 03/05/2008 06:55

Hello fifisworld and welcome back! Good to hear Ethan is thriving!
We had a similar night to the previous, bed at 7.30, awake at 1.30 then at 5am... when he decided he'd had enough sleep and wanted to play!

buzzybee · 03/05/2008 07:28

Lizzer, easy to read your mind when you've been thru similar! In our case not so much the kidney dilatation but the DS "scare". I find it hard to know whether its docs trying to protect their own back or something they just do unconsciously as they have seen a number of "bad" cases and remember them above the "good" ones. Regardless, so pleased you've had good news and can get on with things as usual.

Suey, sorry to hear you're feeling rotten. I was back at work 3 days last week and it felt OK - not great, but OK - which is about the best you can hope for I suspect

Glad to hear most of you are starting to get the odd decent night's sleep. Makes you feel like a new person!!

loucee · 03/05/2008 11:31

Hi everyone

Lovely to be able to finally read all your posts and catch up! This is very brief as my time in the internet cafe is up so have to dash (DH looking after DD in the ELC as well bless him).

DS is 19wks and haven't tried him on solids yet. I think I'll wait til 21 wks then introduce 1 powder of baby rice mixed with ebm and try him mid morning for a week then increase quantity a bit for the next 3 wks taking him to 24 wks when I will introduce pureed veg and fruits til 26wks then start more mashed food and finger food.

Sorry to hear you're really ill Suey, hope you get better soon.

Still no AF here but DS is exclusively bfed (well can I say that if he has 1 bottle of expressed milk at night?) and with DD they didn't return until she was 10 months old then they were very long cycles.

gotta run but hope you're all well, can't wait to be back online at home as really feel cut off from the world without it!

cazzybabs · 03/05/2008 15:54

No Af here either - is come backl about 9 months with both the dds.

Evie has just rolled over 3 times...(just to prove its not a one off)...

cazzybabs · 03/05/2008 16:15

Ok she is just showing off now....keeps rolling over (mind you she hasn't got a nappy on which must help)

Louise76 · 04/05/2008 12:01

Hello all

I've not been on for a couple of days and I've missed loads of messages - you've all been busy

Macd- your dd sounds so lovely and chubby!

Cazzy - hope you hear about your job soon It feels like a lifetime since I was working, my brain has turned to mush since then!

Beckle - balloon flight sounds amazing, what a lovely birthday pressie

Suey - get well soon. I hope your dh is going to take care of you and your lo to let you get better.

Great to see that the weather seems to be getting better at last. I'm looking out some summer clothes and getting excited about wearing some nice tops with normal underwired bras soon! I'm gradually moving dd from bf to bottle and it seems to be going well so far. She is on 2 bottles of formula a day and I'm still bf in the morning and at night. I've had a wee bit of discomfort but nothing I or the breastpump can't handle! I'm planning to drop the night time feed next on hv advice as dd is mucking around at night now (taking ages to feed, coming off and on to look around and smile at me, wriggling around, hitting me etc). Now that the end is in sight I'm so relieved and don't feel guilty about it now. She had 19 weeks of exclusive bf which is more that I ever thought I could do so I'm feeling proud of myself and looking forward to having my body back and feeling like myself again, if that makes sense!

claraquitetirednow · 05/05/2008 16:53

OMG where is everyone? I hope you are all out enjoying your bank holiday's - we actually managed a barbq today!

Louise - you make perfect sense, I know just how you feel.

Did anyone else see Casualty on Saturday night where Maggie's daughter stopped breastfeeding? there is an interesting thread about it but unless it is an ongoing storyline I was a bit , especially as the daughter went out the very same day she stopped breastfeeding and appeared to have no problems with leaky boobs/pain etc. All very strange.

BouncingTurtle · 05/05/2008 21:04

Hi Claraq! I didn't watch Casualty but did read the thread. Crap isn't it? The Beeb go out of their way to normalise such things as homosexuality, mixed race relationships and people having and coping with disabled children yet breastfeeding still seems to be a it taboo!!

Louise - know what you mean, go treat yourself to something lovely and flattering Don't forget to get yourself properly measure though!

Well have had an okay weekend, ds been sleeping in 4-5 stretches at night which is good as he has been teething and his gums have been really hurting him
He has also been mega clingy with me, it is very sweet, he cries until he sees me then he stops and gives me a big beaming smile
ILS have been up, driving me up the wall, overstimulating ds, and making it difficult for him to nap so he has ended up being overtired. Yesterday I ended up taking him upstairs in the afternoon and napping with him (I had a migraine) to make sure he got a decent nap.
They went just after lunch and DH and I were soooo relieved.
Had a good freecycle weekend - got rid of the spare cat carrier, cat feeder, cordless phone and dss's old bike and got 2 stair gates!

suey2 · 06/05/2008 08:29

morning all, feeling much better. Have cancelled work this week, so I have the luxury of a nanny for the next 2 days whilst being at home. Beautiful day down here and actually feel well enough to go for a walk. Will go up to peter jones and get some light grobags today and maybe some first plates and spoons etc. Anyone else into light grobags yet? can't get her bedroom less than 24 degrees

BouncingTurtle · 06/05/2008 08:49

Glad to hear you are feeling better Suey!
Yes, I have the same problem, our bedroom is just over 24 deg.
We were putting a blanket over him and his grog=bag, which helped him sleep better, we've got rid of the blanket, think may be we should just put him in a long sleeved vest.
Last night he woke up 4 times between 7pm and 7am, where he was only waking up 1 or 2 times before. I don't think he has napped enough last couple of days.
We'll see how he gets on tonight!
Gorgeous day today!

fifisworld · 06/05/2008 10:43

Morning everyone

Gorgeous day here as well..ds1 is just having a nap then we are all going out for a walk and to visit my aunty, she had to get her dog put to sleep on Sunday so is really down

I'm having my first proper night out with the girls on Saturday..im excited but also worried about leaving Ethan. He's staying at my auntys house overnight..the first time he's been away from me. Dp is having his mates round so its best that Ethans not here coz dp wont want to be changing and feeding him while they are all playing on the xbox and playing poker!!
DS1 will be staying here though as he'll be in bed before i go and sleeps right through.

We've had to start putting Ethan to bed earlier the last few days, he's been really unsettled and doesnt normall go down until about 9pm but has been put to bed about 8 the last few days and is more settled. He's doing really well, doing about 1 hour stretches through the night but did 12 hours last night

Glad to hear your feeling much better Suey!!

BT - Ethan sleeps with a vest and sleep suit on and has a light fleecy blanket in his cot as his room is always warm, it has the sun in it all day so he's too warm with anything more than that on.
