Clarq - what an amazing article and woman. God it must be hard though!

Suey - hope you are feeling better soon and the woman is worth interviewing.

Insy - snap with contraception (or lack of)...mind you I wouldn't mimd a few more years but bloody hell I am broody!

We went to a christening today and last night Evie slept through the night for the 1st tine in ages - HORRAH...fingers crossed we are out of the 4 month growth spurt! I have interview on Thurs....ahhhhh I don't want to leave dd3 but hey ho I need to money! It is hard finding clothes to fit (fingers crossed it will be nice and sunny)

Louise76 · 28/04/2008 10:55

Hello

Hope you all had good weekends.

It was my birthday on Sat so my Mum and Dad were on babysitting duties while dh and I went out for a meal. We were only out for about 3 hrs but it really made us both feel better!

Clara - your friend is amazing - what an inspirational article. It puts all my moans about dd's bad days in to perspective.

Cazzy, Insy and Awen - you are crazy!! At the moment I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than even think of getting pregnant again! I'm still having nightmares about dd's birth.

BouncingTurtle · 28/04/2008 12:13

Hi Louise and Happy Birthday!

suey2 · 28/04/2008 12:34

happy birthday louise! and LOL re sticking pins in eyes- i'm with you there!

claraquitetirednow · 28/04/2008 13:26

Louise, Cazzy and Bouncing - thanks, she is pretty amazing (although totally human too - she is the last person who would want to be thought of as a "saint" of some kind!). If you saw Sky News yesterday her story led the 5pm, 6pm and 7pm news headlines!!

MamaMaiasaura · 28/04/2008 13:31

Happy birthday Louse lol at pins in eyes!

Cazzy - how long did the sleepless nights last for growth spurt.. am in the midst of one!

Hi Insy - no rolling here but he does wriggle across bed to get to me. He was trying to latch on to my back today! lol

Bouncing - already spotted some snags. Really surprised because i would have expected perfection Got new home tour next tuesday with site manager so lots to list. THey are already putting drainage in back garden.

Suey - dont envy you with work and flu - poor you x

Ambi - lol at shouty baby. Samuel seems to have found the loud volume here, is really funny when he is chattering away at top of voice.. unless of course it is 3am.

suey2 · 28/04/2008 19:42

awen millie's sleepless nights with the growth spurt lasted about a week.

cazzybabs · 28/04/2008 19:46

maybe a week and a bit!

MamaMaiasaura · 28/04/2008 21:09

a week .. well he is asleep atm so enjoying a bit of me time as dp out and ds1 also all snuggled in bed

Lizzer · 29/04/2008 11:11

HELLO! I'm v v v happy! We had apt at Manchester children's hospital y'day for ds's kidney and he doesn't need the operation The consultant is really happy that the kidney is functioning perfectly and the dilation isn't affecting anything, it could just be that its ds's normal state. Obviously they are keeping an eye on it for a while but at the next US scan, if nothing's changed, ds can come off his trimethoprim ab's. YAY!!!!!

The bad news (though its nothing compared to ds's health) is that when we were in manc we took the laptop in to the apple store and it is the hard drive that's gone. Tis pence to buy another, but the data recovery from the broken one will run into hundreds of pounds The only thing we didn't back up was last summer's holidays, the stage by stage house rennovation pics (we did love boring our friends to death with that slideshow LOL) and..... ALL of ds's first pictures-from the hospital and home We can't afford it yet but we'll hold onto HD and do it in the future. So I'll say it again to you all-GO AND BACK UP YOUR PHOTOS-NOW!!

Awen, fingers crossed your ds has a quick spurt

belated birthday greetings Louise

Caz10-thanks for the teething powder tip off, will get some today....ds getting grizzly a lot more now. I don't know what to suggest for sleep, every 3 hrs isn't too bad but ds went from every 2hrs to much longer streches when we put him in hios own room and he's on much more food now, including baby rice for supper, which i think helps him sleep longer but every lo is different i guess....

Buzzy, good luck for your dd's scan in a few weeks, keep me posted

Clara, i read your friend's story on another thread-how amazing, she's so brave and it was so so moving, def puts me to shame when i can't manage to deal with a tesco trip without having a mental meltdown half way round

Hi mememummy, nice to hear your news.

Suey, poor you, sounds bloody awful, hope your dh is providing plenty of hugs and hot choc

Awen, how exciting to have a new house. I bet its lovely seeing everything so shiny and new...I'm thinking of baby names too

Ambi, out til 2, amazing!!

Clairey, how's sleep twin doing? Ds maintaining his long stretches, but how long this wiil last i don't know.....

MamaMaiasaura · 29/04/2008 13:20

YAY lizzer that is fantastic news. Really pleased that your ds is all ok now. Bummer about the hard drive though.

Arggh growth spurt, ended up calling bfing advisor and lovely though she is started saying that it used to be 16lb or 6 months for solids etc. When i asked if it could be a growth spurt she said it could but no fixed time for these. Looked on Kellymom site and felt more reassured. He had me up all night and was feeding 3-7 with a 30 min break now and again. COntinued to feed 1-2 hourly. Am shattered but coping, trying to see it in good humour as he isnt crying loads just rooting, whinnying and sucking!

claireybee · 29/04/2008 15:17

Lizzer that is great news about your ds-you must be so happy. Sleep twin is ok, bit unsettled the last couple of nights though but for a change has been better in the second half of the night which at least means I get some rest!

DD has slept through for 2 nights running now! It has taken her 23 months to do so but it reassures me I will get some sleep again one day!

Welcome back meme! Sorry to hear about your pnd. Are you living with family or just close by? I found it really hard living with my parents when I had dd, felt like I wasn't free to be a parent in my own right.

Insy sounds like ds is doing really well. RE formula, havent given it to ds but I do remember that dd was very unsettled on hipp, she also got constipated. I think the base ingredient is different to normal formula (one is whey based one is something else-can't remember what!) and it is harder to break down or something.

Awen I think it takes 3 days for your milk supply to increase but they can continue feeding frequently for a while longer until they adjust to taking a larger quantity at a time. DS' last growth spurt lasted weeks but he was ill at the same time (and he didn't actually grow much so maybe it wasn't really a growth spurt!)

Snap at the lack of contraception...but only because I'm not having sex! TBH it's the last thing I want when I get some child free time and dh isn't so d at the moment anyway!

The nappucino didn't happen. Well, I was there, house cleaned, nappies laid out, kettle boiled, biscuits at the ready...and noone turned up! I hadn't really advertised it though, just in a couple of the doctors surgeries and asked the hv's and midwives to tell anyone they thought might be interested. Don't have any friends in the area who use cloth either so couldn't invite any like minded friends. Might also try the next one on a weekday rather than a saturday, people probably have better things to do with their time at the weekend and at least that way I might attract some bored mummies!

Caz I use tons of different types of nappy and like lots of different ones. Generally though I'd say Bumbles (or bimbles in size1) are a reliable nappy that are cheapish too and they seem to suit most babies. Otherwise totsbots are pretty reliable and fit most shapes. I use either motherease or nature babies wraps over them-the nature babies ones are great for pretty patterns, as are wee notions.
There are so many I like though I feel almost disloyal for just recommending those!

claraquitetirednow · 29/04/2008 15:52

I officially have a bloater - dd2 weighs 17lb9oz (20 weeks today I think, I had thought 19 weeks but HV worked it out to 20 weeks!) and is now on the 91st percentile for weight!! ooops. Considering she was down to the 25th percentile soon after she was born she's doing well! She has such massive chunky thighs and calves it looks like she has elephantitiis...

She is absolutely gorgeous and smiley and bonny though, I love her to bits.

Lizzer - great news, must be such a relief (bummer about the computer though!).

Claireybee - you do make me feel guilty with my disposables, you are good! Well done to your dd and her sleep, now you just need to work on that ds of yours

suey2 · 29/04/2008 19:24

CONGRATULATIONS lizzer!! Woo Hoo!!! What a weight off your mind.

cazzybabs · 29/04/2008 19:44

Lizzer that is brilliant news!!

Clairy - oh no!!! I would love to have come to your nappichino...for biscuits and tea alone! We use terries...have just got bamboo ones. I lvoe them - so much cheaper than disposables.

Awen are you getting more sleep.

Meme - are you finishing your nursing trainnig or have you already (spot the person too lazy to go back and read old threads).

OHH I feel ill - last night I was so hot and cold and today I am just sleepy and snotty. Still got my appetite though !!!! Are you better Suey?

BouncingTurtle · 29/04/2008 20:01

Hey everyone, been feeling a bit rubbish, horrible migraine since yesterday afternoon. And DH range about 20 mins ago to tell me he is just leaving work

Lizzer - that is wonderful news, must be a huge weight off your mind

Clairey - sorry to hear your nappacino didn't happen - what a shame! Anothe cloth nappy user here, I've just recently splurged on some Bumgenius V3, they are not cheap (but I get a 20% discount on them so that helps) but they are fab! I also use BM prefolds as well, and some ME AIOs.

Hello to everyone else... must dash loads to do.

MamaMaiasaura · 29/04/2008 21:24

ok, those who use re-usables can you give me info and tell me what i would need todo and how much work they are?

Still no sleep, only sleep he went to today was in the run up to school run so couldnt sleep. HE is in bed now, will likely go up soon and sleep too Just eating my giant buttons and callippo first (still craving callippos!) Also dp and i agreed for me to speak to dr about next baby just to see how the water lies as needed help before. Oh and my best friends is pregant and had her scan today, she is 13 weeks - due Nov 1st. Am sooo excited for her! and a little bit lol

MamaMaiasaura · 29/04/2008 21:25

aw bouncing. SOrry to hear you not feeling good. Hope you feel better soon xx

insywinsyspider · 29/04/2008 21:44

clairey - v interesting about what you said about hipp formula - we've switched to aptimal now and he seems happier, the awake time at night is more settled, he was wriggling about loads and moaning but now he's in a really bad habit so not sure how to persuade him not to wake up at 2am, then 3am etc evry hour ish till 7 - I'm not feeding him in night so def not hunger!

BT - v jealous of bumgenius nappies I was given one for free by lady who sells them (which is naughty as she knew I'd be tempted ) I have to sell all my current nappies to afford them tho, have advertised them but no one seems to want to buy second hand nappies....

fantastic news lizzer!

awen - we use reusables, not much hassel at all, just takes a bit of getting used to, you just need to find someone locally who sells them so you can get a good look at them, buy (or see if they do a free trial) a few and try it, also some councils give you money towards them

insywinsyspider · 29/04/2008 21:45

sorry bouncing missed the bit bout you feeling rubbish - big hug x

BouncingTurtle · 30/04/2008 07:11

Yes definitely contact your local council. I buy my nappies from my local Lollipop agent so I get 20% for being a Stockton resident.
Lollipop and BabyKind have local agents, contact your and they'll be able to tell you about any council initiatives and also any nappacinos that run regularly in your area.

Generally you need about 20 nappies, cheapest option are terries or prefolds which are also quick drying - I have the latter, you'll need wraps for these. I also have shaped pocket nappies which I use for out and about. For night duty I have All in One nappies which I stick in a prefold as a booster.
This has lots of information and is run by a Mumsnetter - BumFluff

Been selling some of my odd nappies, sold one so far!

buzzybee · 30/04/2008 08:21

Lizzer, what a relief. Quite different from what you were told last time though isn't it? Are you annoyed that they caused you so much anxiety? Docs seem predisposed to tell you worst case scenarios IME. Another 3 weeks wait for us but hope we have the same result

My main issue at the moment is refusal to feed. Am having major issues with her pushing the bottle away until she gets absolutely ravenous and very grouchy. I can't work out why. Maybe still teething issues? Sometimes she starts sucking then refuses so maybe in pain? But only just had that first tooth come thru so I was hoping we'd have a break from that for a while!

We use Kushies/Kooshies washables here at the moment but I have ordered a Bumgenius to try out. I do try and give her an hour or so before bed in a disposable each night too as she has more freedom of movement to kick around. Not that I particularly want her to start rolling over but YKWIM!!

I feel like she's had a huge growth spurt recently. She suddenly seems to have become a very large baby! She hasn't been weighed recently but is 4 months old today.

kelbel · 30/04/2008 12:27

lizzer - so pleased for you

buzzy - fingers crossed for you

weaning - for those who have started can i ask a bit of advice. have just started lo on baby rice (20 wks). hv said start with one or two spoon fulls, stupid question time but is that two spoons of the sloppy stuff when its made it? i 've made a little bowl using milk and 1 tspoon of the powder, now that makes more than a spoonfull, do you see what i mean? i gve hi a spoonfull and he wanted more. do you start just once a day with baby rice for a few days? or twice a day? aagh!!!loving it tho.

Lizzer · 30/04/2008 12:38

Thanks for all your messages everyone, still can't believe it myself

Buzzy, you read my mind It was the first thing me and dp said to each other, it was the same on my 20w scan too. Why do they feel the need to tell you the worst case scenario as if that's what was happening? It causes a lot of uneccessary stress imo.I hope you get the same results as us buzzy, have everything crossed for you....
It does sound like teeth, the refusal to feed, have you tried teething granules or even a bit of calpol if really bad.. I bet that other tooth isn't far behind the first, they usually come in twos iirc

Clairey, wei'd have come to your nappacino too its a shame you can't have a virtual one. We never got round to reusables, which i'm about cos i was soo going to do it... Perhaps i need a virtual kick up the bum BT there's a lot of helpful info there to help me
(Well done on your dd sleeping through, hopefully her bro will take her lead now!)

Does anyone else's lo suck their thumb? Its becoming a real habit for ds, for comfort and boredom (and annoyingly when trying to feed him his purees!) Its uber cute to see but now worried he'll become a buck toothed kid who needs speech therapy I've never encountered it before in my family or friends, is it that bad?

BouncingTurtle · 30/04/2008 12:48

Ok 'fession time!

I'm a thumb sucker

It hasn't affected my speech, but it has my teeth - one of my incisors is pushed up higher into gun than the other on my upper set. Plus my thumb nail is cracked and my thumb is a bit flat. Tried so hard to break the habit, but it's hard. Luckily DH isn't bothered by it!
DS sucks his very occasionally, or sometimes his fingers but does prefer his dodie!
