Can we talk weight ladies ours not the babies....
I am really struggling have always been heavy and really struggle
Last year I lost loads (3 and half stone) then got PG and gained about 3 stone....after birth I was about stone and half over prePg but am actaully gaining now and have over 2 stone to get back to prePG weight and then about a stone and half to get to my goal......sooo fed up with being FAT!

claraquitetirednow · 23/04/2008 20:19

Macdoodle- Weightwatchers, it's the way to go. But wait until you stop breastfeeding. I can only do it now as was SO hungry before, couldn't even contemplate dieting.

Am I going mad or are you a gp? What do you tell your patients about weightloss?

If you are a gp (sorry if I got that wrong!) I was wondering what gp's do for antenatal care as my own gp was pregnant when I was and was thinking about her taking her own blood pressure and listening to her own baby's heartbeat!

MamaMaiasaura · 23/04/2008 20:59

macdoodle - know how you feel about the weight thing. I lost some straight after but not lost anymore (and refused now to weigh myself). I am so hungry too. Trying not to worry about it but summer is coming and want to get back to pre preg wardrobe. I think the whole losing weight whne bf is lies I realised thzt with ds1 though so wasnt under that illusion this time round lol. My baby is 17 weeks on thursday, forgot how close in age ours are. Getting him weighed tomorrow as not done for 4 weeks. at the sleep through night. Agree with wizzka - no excuse for baby brain lol

Buzzy - totally understand about the dd1 thing. I absolutely hate it when people ignore ds1 (8) and fuss over baby. I try to bring him in to conversation and also give him ds2 to cuddle etc so that the visitors have to interact with ds1. Lucky not happened to much but felt very for ds1 when it has.

BT - good for you ar the drs. Some of those receptionsits are a law unto themselves.

Am really excited about house move. Feel like a kid waiting for christmas (have even thought about how to decorate new house at xmas lol).

Amani - aw your poor dd1, never stops eh?

Another snoring dp here, but so do my ds's, well they purr more. Dp sleeps on sofa atm though so not bothering me at all

BouncingTurtle · 23/04/2008 21:54

My Dh snores too, I wake him up and tell him off. Apparently I snore as well but he can sleep through anything - it's only my sleep that gets disturbed!

suey2 · 24/04/2008 09:10

macdoodle [empathy emoticon]. I am fed up of feeling fat. I just can't seem to get the balance right between eating enough to keep the milk up, but not too much so that the weight goes on. I am constantly yo-yoing between the 2. I am hoping that expressing 2 times per day will increase supply enough to put more in the freezer for my return to work, so that i needn't be paranoid about running out. Went out with NCT pals last night and it took me 20 minutes to find something that wasn't a nursing top to fit over my boobs and not show a big fat belly. I guess my perspective is that since i do such a physical job, it will drop off when i go ack to work AS LONG AS I don't get lured to the chocolate biscuit tin. I have also ordered a Wii fit so i can exercise without leaving the house. we'll see

Wizzska · 24/04/2008 09:14

I agree with Clara, Weightwatchers is the place to go. I've done it before and it really works. I lost 2 stone there back in 2002 and have kept it off ever since (although now have got to lose about 10lbs to get back to pre pg weight). Am not contemplating dieting as am too hungry most of the time, although should probably cut down on teh biscuits. Am a bit sad that I can't fit into most of my pre pg clothes, have gone up a dress size.

Wii fit is arriving today, and I'll go running at the weekend. Perhaps this will help.

Wizzska · 24/04/2008 09:18

Suey, will we be able to play each other on the Wii fit over the internet? I know you can with the Mario Cart. We could race each other round the virtual park?

OP posts:
suey2 · 24/04/2008 09:27

what a a laugh, wizz! I will chase amazon and see where i'm at with the order. Must get mario cart, too

Lizzer · 24/04/2008 10:32

I've just seen those wii fit things, looks amazing v as we don't even have a wii

Ok, now you'll have to excuse me as I WHOOP WHOOP, because...finally and for the first time ever ds slept from 8.45pm to 5am, quick bf and went back down (awake, settled himself) until 8.15 this morning!!!! I, of course, didn't sleep through as my mind woke up body at 4am in a panic, i resisted checking him (but dp did at 6.30 LOL) I can't remember the last time he didn't wake up every 1-2 hours from midnight. Not counting chickens though.... Really wondering if him being in his own room helped, seems strange that he did this on the 3rd night and also self settled after the 3rd night of trying too...hmm. guess i'll never know whether he would've done it anyway...

Clairey, LOL at 'healthy' choc covered fruit and nuts-I'm exactly the same

OH weight, its so difficult-I'm sure bfing is helping to slowly lose my weight, i've half a stone to lose to pre pg but then another stone to get to my peak weight...the thought of being in bikini in july is terrifying me but tbh i'm not doing a lot about it...must keep walking, must keep walking...

At least with the weather warming up you feel more like eating salads, but me and dp love saLARDs ie adding loads of creamy dressings, croutons, cheese and avocados to ours rendering them about as healthy as a big mac

Caz10 · 24/04/2008 11:15

garrrrrr i wrote an essay last night, hit post and laptop died!

So just a quicky just now to say hi all and well done lizzer what a fab sleep! I'm v jealous, I am shattered today! We are still on very regular 2-3hrly feeds, it is so wearing.

on a cheerier note, i just got an email to say there's a 50% of M&S online sale on today! get shopping ladies!

claireybee · 24/04/2008 11:40

Ooh Lizzer I do hope the sleep twin thing continues and ds is about to sleep through! Last night ok, he woke 3 times. Or was it 4? I lose track! Only fed him twice in the night anyway! Hopefully not the own room that did it for you cos ds doesn't have his own room!

Tell me more about the self settling, how did you do it? If ds was feeding to sleep I wouldn't mind but the rocking/pacing is quite wearing now! Problem is I got him to self settle two nights running and also got him to sleep just in my arms (not being rocked)but dh always rocks him and ignores me when I ask him not to so then it's back to square one...I know it is the easiest option for now cos it involves far less screaming and he goes to sleep much faster but we need to break the habit at some point. I suppose I could do all the settling myself but that isn't ideal either...

Weight have put some back on now which is good, but I do need to tone up and my diet could definitely be improved upon...

claraquitetirednow · 24/04/2008 12:38

Ooooh I want a Wi. Not even really sure what it is as always thought it was something "for the kids" but I want to race Wizz and Suey round the virtual park! Might be a good thing for us to get to take to Pakistan as it probably won't be viable to get out on the streets on my own!

Clairey - the answers to both your dilemnas are staring you in the face. You keep rocking ds to sleep and, as he gets bigger, you get fit and toned at the same time!

Seriously though I don't really know about self settling. I think some babies are just really calm and will do it. Others need to learn and this usually means leaving them to cry or doing the pick-up pick-down routine if you have the time/energy/patience etc.

Lizzer · 24/04/2008 13:01

Hi again, Clairey it was almost too easy to do the self settling as ds did seem to 'get it' quite fast though i'm sure we'll have plenty of times when it backfires. My advice would be start by using bedtime as the first self-settle. Make sure he's almost asleep and full to bursting (LOL) Then maybe after a few days of that go with the night time wakings, I offered boob all of the first night but put him down whilst awake, first waking was no probs but the 2nd he chuntered away (this is where his room came in cos i could not do it with him next to us) HE never broke into a proper cry, otherwise i would've picked him up, no question (softy!) Then after 10 mins he went back to sleep. This happened twice on 1st night, once on 2nd and by last night he settled without a sound. HTH

I'm sure clara's right though, they're all different and i'm sure i'll be wondering where it all went wrong soon enough

Wow, yeah lets all buy a wii and get racing each other-sounds fab!!

Lizzer · 24/04/2008 13:03

Ps- forgot to say that when i didn't feed in the night, i gave a 2 min cuddle instead-would feed if he was rooting though

claraquitetirednow · 24/04/2008 13:13

Well not sure what I did right but Martha chatted and sang upstairs to herself for aboutu 20 minutes and then fell asleep. The one thing I think made a difference is that she wasn't OVERtired - we've had a bit of a strange morning as I took them both to softplay and she had about 3 minutes nap in the car on the way and then wouldn't sleep again as it was all too exciting; she then fell asleep on the way home and had about 20-30 mins, so after lunch I assumed she was still tired and put her down and she did go to sleep on her own.

However I think she's just woken up so it seems that lots of short naps are the order of the day today!

Louise76 · 24/04/2008 15:29

Hello

Amani - you must be exhausted with both of your dds being unwell - hope they are better today. You've got me craving a lemon roll from M&S though!

We've got a wi but I've only played it a couple of times. DH bought me Big Brain Academy to cure my 'mumnesia'! I like that word - saw it in a magazine to describe to scrambled state of my brain from pregnancy and being a mum!

Lizzer and Clairey - DD was self settling last week but sometimes she just feeds herself to sleep. It's great when that happens as she goes to bed straightaway without any fuss and doesn't normally wake up. We had real trouble getting her to sleep last night (didn't go down til 8.50pm)but she had her 3rd set of immunisations on Tues so thought it may have been something to do with that (she was very unsettled, had a lot of wind and was sick a few times) Seems better today though

suey2 · 25/04/2008 09:15

morning all,
having a duvet day today- millie up most of the night - very unhappy - running a temp when i took it this morning after giving her some calpol. Poor wee mite. she is back in bed- will let her sleep as much as she wants today

buzzybee · 25/04/2008 12:59

Hi Clara [waves] glad you have fond memories of kiwiland! Has anyone else ever visited?

Weight - I have a friend doing SlimmingWorld. I think its also in the UK?? Seems to be working for her. I'm not bothering for the moment. Enough to worry about with going back to work etc!!

After a week of grizzles Bea finally cut her first proper tooth yesterday! Bottom right. She still has the strange calcification on her gum but GP reckons that should be re-absorbed eventually. She was a much happier baby today - all giggles and smiles although still dribbling loads.

Have started her on a few purees. Have tried apples, pears and carrots as well as baby rice. Carrots seem to be the favourite so far. She managed 2 big teaspoonfuls tonight after a bottle (i.e. about 20 baby spoonfuls )

Sorry to hear about sick LOs and their Mums. Look after yourselves.

Amani · 25/04/2008 15:30

Even though the weather is dismall outside am having a lovely day. Took DD1 and DD2 tto library and Asda. Usually DD1 runs around Asda and pulls things off the shelves but today she was as good as gold and held my hadn throughout the whole trip (erm, with a packet of sweets in her hands, which I said she could have if she held onto the buggy/my hand . Put both girls to sleep now and enjoying 'my time' now. Think both of them are onthe mend now.....

Louise - am sure I've cleared M&S of the lemon rolls...oh am now onto thier lemon cheesecakes now. Told my DH, isn't it strange I'm CRAVING lemon - could it mean something..???

Suey - hope Millie gets well soon and make sure you catch up on your rest.

Clara - Wii is so addictive - my nephews and neices even got my MIL to have a go on it! LOL

Clairey - I also have got DD2 in the habit of rock her to sleep, but a couple of times when I'm in the shower etc I've heard her cry and when I've come out she's gone to sleep.

Mcdoddle - you are still BF exclusively (in a nice, in awe way) - well done!

Amani · 25/04/2008 15:31

Whoops missed this one - Buzzy - congrats to Bea for cutting her first tooth

claireybee · 25/04/2008 15:40

Woohoo! Mumsnet magic strikes again! Lay ds down on my bed this morning while I got dd and me ready, he cried, picked him up, put him back down and 5 mins later he was asleep! Only slept for 30mins but he usually only has short naps anyway.

AND he only woke twice in the night again!

His bcg blister burst last night-omg have never seen so much pus in my life. It was truly disgusting!

Am hosting a nappucino tomorrow morning so am trying to get the house looking presentable. How do children generate so much mess?! Have spent the day trying to find homes for various "bits"- teaset, bricks, crayons, hairbands etc. I do tidy the toys away daily but keep finding bits in odd places! Actually think dh is the worst culprit, he never puts anything away and if it was left to him every surface in the house would be piled high with crap!

claireybee · 25/04/2008 15:45

Wow a tooth! Is that the first december tooth?

Hope Millie is better soon Suey, and that you have both had some rest today.

Amani, you're not are you?!? They say citrus for a girl...how would your dh feel about being surrounded by 4 women? Glad you've had a good day today

Amani · 25/04/2008 15:53

Clairy - DD2 had a big BCG bliser aswell and we called NHS Direct was asked to go and see the emergancy Docs to be prescribed some anti-biotics for it.

Oh by the way, am defo NOT!!! (think I would have a nervous break-down if I was). DH has just learnt (after 6 yrs of marriage) how to cope with my PMT so god know what he is going to do when the three of us have it (they do say the ladies of the house tend to have it at the same time..??!!)

Sorry if I'm being thick but what is a 'nappacino'?

claireybee · 25/04/2008 16:06

Eek I hope he doesn't need antibiotics. It looks loads better since it burst so hopefully will be ok. I'm really bad though, never think to go to the doctors unless they are really ill-and then still get made to feel like i'm neurotic!

A nappucino is kind of a cross between a coffe morning and a tupperware party, but nappies rather than tupperware (reusables)

Amani · 25/04/2008 16:11

Enjoy your nappacino!
