Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
suey2 · 18/04/2008 13:09

hey dundee,
no, i was wearing a white knee length coat- i nearly went up to someone who was queueing to get into the dinosaur room holding up a small baby, was that you? I knid of paused and then was too embarassed to ask!

Ambi · 18/04/2008 14:48

Away for a few days and look how many posts there are! There?s no way I can keep up with it all.

We went to a baby swimming session on Monday and it was fab, Louise wasn?t sure what was happening and the changing was a bit of a pain but it was good, the pool was full of toys and they had loads of inflatables and chairs the LO?s to sit in. Definitely going back next week, (but with my mum to help out). Oh dear BT, glad he?s ok after the slip.

She?s also taken a real dislike to my Mum, it?s a shame, she screams whenever she holds her. Poor Grandma. I dropped her off a week ago to nip to the farm shop on their road, back 15mins later and it was awful, she?d gone purple screaming. Buzzy, relieved to know it?s a clingy phase and will be over soon, esp since they are 5 mins away and would be no1 babysitting request. Very brave on the no nappy time - every time we do this she wees everywhere, even on the scales at baby clinic.

Online Shopping, love it. It?s great for bulk buying, we have a dog so carrying 30 tins home from the shop is unthinkable. I use mysupermarket, then tescos and then always cheat with a voucher code. Although I do still love lidl, there?s less choice so you don?t spend ages choosing a tin of beans, the food seems better quality ? I think that the german food standards are better than ours and the nappies are great.

Napping, DD goes down (mostly) before her feed for 30mins-1hr. She wakes (pretty cutely, just smiling in her cot) in the morning at about 7.30 when DH is up and about, he changes her and brings me a bottle so I feed her in bed about 8am, her first nap (in her cot, no grobag, just blanket and dummy) is at 9am to let me shower and dress and sort the house out, sometimes she?s still awake when I get out of the shower so she gets the dummy again and usually drifts off by the time I?m dressed. She?s up about 10, we play then feed at 11am. More playtime then nap about 12-1, on the sofa next to me with a blanket and dummy, it may take her 30mins to drop off but she does, then feed at 2pm. Play for a couple of hours and nap again about 3.30/4pm to feed at 5. then playtime until she tires at about 7pm, then it?s another nap until 8pm where we bath / change / feed her then down for the night at 9pm.

Got weighed yesterday ? hit the stone mark! She?s shot up the percentiles, from just above 25th to nearly 75th. I?d love to know her head circ percentile now, at 6w check it was off the chart

Claraq ? I feel exactly the same when feeding DD a bottle, like I have to say I exclusively BFed for 3 months though. Dammit I hate feeling like I have to answer for my actions, the irony is that it?s all in my head. (I was born in ?81)

Wobbegong ? have a great holiday, hope the weather holds out for you. I?m also a So you think you can dance? fan ? but strangely cannot bear strictly come dancing.

Beanster ? sorry you?re feeling rubbish. Can DH help out feeding LO? DD also loves bathtime, so loves soaking the floor but is getting too big for the baby bath now. She pulls her face when she gets out and thanks me (everytime) by weeing over the towel and cries when I?m dressing her.

Beckle ? congrats on Evie turning over, that?s a good milestone.

Oh no cazzy, how awful for you

Suey ? that must have been a sight to see her legs dangling, DD always seems to move up the cot not down. Great smiley pic.

Lizzer ? of spa treat.

Clairey ? IKWYM about posting and feeling ambivalent about certain issues, and the ones I do, someone has already pipped me to the post with an articulate message.

Macdoodle ? Lily looks so cute in her dress, and her lovely dark hair. DD?s hair has mostly fallen out except a little tuft at her nape.

Awen ? I also love making LO laugh, bouncing her on my knee and making funny faces. No clicky joints here though.

Skid ? yanbu, but then DH does get up at weekends to DD and lets me lie in.

Right, it?s taken me an hour to write this and I still have to nip to the shop and do a massive pile of ironing so I must leave now! Have a fab weekend everyone.

Amani · 18/04/2008 15:24

Hello ladies,

Hope you and your little ones are ok. Not been on for a long time, as I have had one long rollercoaster week?

Late last Friday evening I get a call from my GP saying she received the results of DD2 ear swab test and she is very concerned about the results and must come in ASAP. This frightened me and I got the kids ready in record breaking time and reach the surgery where I am told my DD2 has a sever ear infection by a rare type of bug that is not commonly found in young children and is not treatable with the antibiotics initially prescribe and must go IMMEDIATELY to the children?s ward of my local hospital to get specialised treatment otherwise it can spread quickly further into the ear. So dashed to the hospital with DH and DD1 (had no one to look after her) and as the Children?s Ward had been forewarned of our arrival, as soon as we got there DD2 was taken from us, weighed, examined and ears seen by three different doctors (scary but makes a change from hanging around). A lot of umming and ahhing was going on as she needed a drip put into her little hands and the staff were unsure of how to do it as they were afraid that the aneseptic wipes used prior to inserting the needle (sp?) might trigger her eczema. Eventually they got a drip going and for the next 48 hrs my poor baby was like that and having regular painkillers and waking for feeding and then going straight back to sleep. After that the drip was removed and she?s been on AB and we eventually came out of hospital yesterday AM. However for the rest of the day DD2 just cried and cried and wouldn?t settle and feed well and we took her back to the Children?s Ward pm where the doctor confirmed there was further swelling in her right ear i.e. same infection as like the left ear. Was advised to continue with AB and painkillers prescribed. Last night was an awful night for us, despite the painkillers DD2 cried all night and slept only 2 hrs. We were so desperate for some sleep that I even took her for a drive at 4am, which settled her for ½ hr then the whole crying episode started again. However today she is a little more settled and I?ve dropped DD1 into nursery for a few extra hours just so I can rest (oh and catch up with 1 weeks worth of laundry, dirty dishes and cook a proper meal instead of eating junk). We?ve got to go back to the ENT specialist in a few weeks time to have DD2 hearing tested as her ear drums had burst and becaue of the bug she had, to ensure it has heald properly so PLEASE everyone send me lots of positive vibes as I am so worried about it. Been told there is a 10% her ear drums might not heal properly. I keep making loud noises to test DD2 reaction to them as I am so worried.

Just can?t believe what I thought was an ear infection would turn out to be something serious as that. ?.

Lizzer · 18/04/2008 15:44

Oh god amani, i just popped on quickly whilst bfing to see your msg...how absolutely awful for you, your poor dd..sending you lots of (((hugs))))

Amani · 18/04/2008 15:54

thanks hun - sorry just noticed a lot of you have things going on so didn't mean to monopolise with a huge posting...will try and catch up but got lots of housework to sort out (come on you should know me by know.........drives me INSANE (in a nice way) to have a messy house)...

Skid - re the lie in, my DH usually gets up around 7am to get ready for work, so a lie in for him is waking at 8am, which is fine by me as he takes the girls downstrais when they wake at 8am while I have a lovely rest...

Amani · 18/04/2008 15:55

forgot to mentioned Lizzer am trying not be be negative about the hearing test and will deal with it on the day..

cazzybabs · 18/04/2008 16:23

Amani - gosh. Your poor dd - I am so sorry. Fingers crossed that it heals OK.

I saw my Boss today (I don't really like her) and she said ohh I am going to come round to see you. I feel all stressed about it now.

BouncingTurtle · 18/04/2008 16:56

Amani - oh poor your dd and poor you! How frightening it must have been for you! Sending you lots of positive vibes to you.

Ambi - your routine sounds great, very of your dh bringing smiling, fresh and clean baby to you for her breakfast in bed! Sounds like a great way to start the day I also try and time my shower around ds's nap!

suey2 · 18/04/2008 17:18

oh amani- you poor thing! Lots of positive vibes from me to you and yur LO.

BouncingTurtle · 18/04/2008 17:23

I've just been measured by NCT bra lady... measured by Mothercare & Marks as a 40E/F, I'm actually a 36J!!! I've just bought a bra she had amongst her stock and it is sooo much more comfy - and I now have two boobs again

suey2 · 18/04/2008 18:02

tee hee BT. I am in 34Js now.

Talk about separation anxiety! Me this time. Weird treating patients again and having such a familiar interaction when my life has changed beyond all recognition. Looking forward to giving her her 10.30 feed.

Wizzska · 18/04/2008 19:14

Amani - sending lots of positive vibes. What a total nightmare. I'll be watching DS like a hawk for him rubbing his ears. Was beginning to feel a bit cocky about his health because he's had all his jabs now, just goes to show what can happen. Your poor wee mite, hope she's out of pain soon and makes a good recovery.

Bouncing - I'm glad you're bouncing in a whole new and more comfortable way! . I still can't find a bra to fit, I've got everything from a 36GG to a mere 34f.

OP posts:
Ambi · 18/04/2008 19:58

Oh Amani, bless her, loads of positive vibes here too. What an awful time, it must have been so frightening at the hospital. Wishing Aliya a painless recovery asap.

kelbel · 18/04/2008 20:07

amani - lots of hugs to you, sounds really frightening.

haven't been on for a few days, was my birthday on wednesday and had a lovely day lunching with my mam and ds as dh had a meeting so couldnt take the day off. he took thu and fri off tho so we've had a lovely few days. he'd booked me a morning of treatments today off ds for my birthday, was so lovely to have a back massage again! was recommended not to have one for at least 12 weeks after section. felt like me again for a few hours, then wnt into work to show off ds again and have lunch with the girls

day time naps - no real routine, can tell when he's tired, so feed, rock or ssh him to sleep, only naos for about 30 mins max

claraquitetirednow · 18/04/2008 20:52

Amani, you poor thing that sounds terrifying. But it sounds like you have dealt with it all very bravely. You sound very calm and optimistic, I would be a gibbering wreck. If it is any help, a friend of mine had a problem with her ears (I think a burst ear drum?) when she was young and you would never know it. I think she isn't allowed to scuba dive but that's about the only restriction to her life now (she's in her 30's).

Kelbel - sounds like you had a wonderful birthday. I can't wait for my spa "day" (eg 3 hours).

Suey - sounds like you are back at work; do you live and work in the same place? Are you still breastfeeding? Have you sorted out childcare?

All the baby swimming classes sound great. I have taken dd2 in just the once, she wasn't keen, but we'll be able to take her every day when we go to Centreparcs so she might get a bit more used to it. BT - the duck under the water must have been a little scary!

Skid- no, yanbu, although for some reason I hardly ever seem to get a lie in - however, I think I did my last breastfeed this morning so perhaps now he can do the morning feed I will get more. I don't think men are very good at coping with more than one child at once mind.

Has anyone had a night away from their babies yet (of course difficult for most of you who are still breastfeeding)? I am meant to be having a night away at a friends house at the end of May and am not sure how I feel about it. It will be a sort of farewell weekend with my two best girlfriends, but I am sure I will be calling home every ten minutes....

kelbel · 18/04/2008 21:05

clara - we've managed the odd night out - altho hard coz ds won't take a bottle! but we're attempting a big night out with all of our friends tomorrow night in aid of my birthday, hopefully we'll get about 7.30 - 12 ish, then back for a feed, that'll probs be enough tbh, wouldn't think i'd only just gone 27!

macdoodle · 18/04/2008 21:24

Booked today a course of baby massage and baby yoga - both on days I work so get both courses in now till I go back in 7 weeks
Anyone done either am really excited - will be nice to "do something" with her as so far only time we go out is shopping, meeting friends or rushing to one of DD1 many activities - this will just be the 2 of us
Am waiting for the next course of "water babies" to start for swimming though might brave the pool when DD1 has her lesson - it is just so noisy in there so not sure how she will react - both me and DD1 love swimming so keen to get going - I think she is one of youngest on thread born 28 Dec so just 16 weeks today
Suey hope is going well with nanny and work - am not looking forward to going back though I love my job - have been in for few meetings (self employed partnership)...and am finding the politics stressful and tedious (though did BF in one meeting the gals were fine but one of the men from the health authority looked bit shocked haha)...
Amani hope your babe is doing ok I know how scary it is - was telling one of my friends about Lils hospital admission and just burst into tears - surprised myself as I thought I had pretty much got over it 7 weeks ago now - so big hug it is horrible !

claraquitetirednow · 18/04/2008 21:25

Kelbel - I'll actually be staying away for the night, back sometime the next day. What i am most looking forward to is breakfast in peace

kelbel · 18/04/2008 21:57

what's breakfast!ha

MamaMaiasaura · 18/04/2008 23:15

Amani - your poor dd2 and how awful for all of you. Am glad to see she is back home with you and hope that her hearing test goes well. Ds2 still on his AB's for his ear infection but will be making an appointment to check his clicky joints and will get them to check his ears again because still getting discharge which smells really sweet and is crystalising. Paranoid now incase something worse as they never took a swab. Sure it is ok as what your dd2 sounds very rare but cant help worry iykwim.

Samuel is also teething as now has the rosy cheeks to go with the gnawing and drooling.

BT & Suey - pmsl as am 36J here too. J for jugs i guess lol.

Lo managed to push himself round the bed last night in his need to get closer to me. Was really sweet. I am just so so made up to be his mummy, am completely besotted with him

macdoodle · 19/04/2008 07:38

Another good night Put her down crying at 8pm in exasperation as she neither wanted to be fed or cuddles and went downstairs in a huff to have my dinner with DD1 - and within 5 mins she had gone to sleep and didn't wake up till 6:30am Has had feed and is lying on her mat talking and playing while I tidy up MN
Hope everyones night was not too bad Amani hope your LO is loads better - Amani just looked at your profile your boys are gorgeous maybe they would like my girls Have a good weekend busy one here will catch up when I can !

PeckaRolloverAgain · 19/04/2008 09:29

Tentatively creeping in with big smile to say that we have just had our third night of 7pm-6.30/7.00am

If anyone is having bad nights one thing that has helped enormously is stopping Dreamfeeding - by giving her that feed it seemed to totally disturb her and somehow make her wake up and feed MORE!!

Just need to work on the day time napping now!

Amani, how very, very scary - my elder two both had stints in hospitals as babies and it is horrific. The needles and tubes is just heartbreaking. I found it really knackering too and once they were home and better I always had a bit of a breakdown due to the shock etc so be kind to yourself

claireybee · 19/04/2008 16:25

Amani that must have been so scary for you, hope she is much better now.

Skid I don't think switching to the early hours to express would make any difference for me-atm once ds has woken once he is then up every 1-2 hours for the rest of the night so I don't have any period of not feeding him!

Last night loads better though actually, bed at 7.30, woke and needed resettling around 8. Woke at 11 and fed, back to sleep until 1.30 (gave him to dh to resettle), woke and fed at 3.30, back to sleep until 5.40 then until 7.45. Still 2 hourly wakings but so much better than hourly! I think for ds feeding every 2 hours (or more) in the day means he carries that on through the night rather than tanking up. Have half heartedly tried to make him go longer in the day but I feel so cruel when he is crying and nuzzling into my chest and nothing else will settle him. Plus it means we go back to days of more or less constant screaming which I really don't think I can deal with! Guess unless I am prepared to be harsh about it I just have to put up with it and hope he outgrows it at some point...

Pecka I found a dream feed made dd wake more too when I tried it so haven't with ds (and he wakes himself up around 11pm anyway!)

Oh ds drank about 1oz from the bottle then refused any more. Don't think he was that hungry though as he'd only fed less than 2 hours before! (I gave the rest of the bottle to dd for her bedtime milk-is that wierd?! Didn't want to waste it, but I wouldn't drink it myself!)

Caz dh had that argument with some other africans he met up with in London while he was there-they were saying stuff like "you're not a real man if you help around the house or help with the kids" and couldn't believe he changed nappies etc, told him "it isn't the African way". DH does less that a lot of dads I know but I guess I should be glad I married him and not one of those guys!

BCG question: DS had his at 5 weeks, is now nearly 19 weeks. Had very slight mark at first but this week it has come up as a red swelling, is that normal? Seems a very long time afterwards for the blister to come up...

claireybee · 19/04/2008 16:28

Blimey just read some of your bra sizes! Anyone care to share (34b even when breastfeeding ). Still is better than the 32a I was pre dd!

Wizzska · 19/04/2008 17:07

Clairey - I was told that that would happen for the BCG, the nurse said it took a few weeks for the mark to come out. DS's mark is quite small but it is red and a bit swollen.

Pecka, thanks for the tip re: dreamfeed. Not sure it will work for us, DS wakes anyway if I don't dream feed.
