cazzybabs · 16/04/2008 13:59

Pecka - that is a great article and so true.

cazzybabs · 16/04/2008 14:01

Clarq - hope you are OK.

(soory don't mean to start a new post fpr veryone I read - I don't know what is happening)

claireybee · 16/04/2008 14:16

Sympathies to all those with clingy babies at the moment, ds is the king of clingyitis. Think I had ooh maybe two weeks where I could put him down for 5 minutes, now he is back to needing to be carried all the time and grizzling a lot of it even then.

Still no sleep here either.

BUT I saw a friend of mine who had to have an emergency hysterectomy last year and she was saying that if she had known she wasn't having any more she wouldn't have worried about sleep training/independent play etc until a lot later on, the baby stage is so short it's not worth stressing about these things or you end up always worrying and not enjoying your baby. I'm trying to adopt that as my philosophy now especially seeing as stressing about the lack of sleep hasn't actually led to me getting any more of it although it is bloody hard at 3am when you have just been got out of bed for the fourth time! (obviously I'm going to still try and help ds learn to self settle and sleep longer cos I don't think it is fair on him not to but I'm just going to try and relax about it and not panic about never getting a full nights sleep again or having to rock him to sleep when he is 21!)

Clara, Suey etc, sorry you have felt attacked on other threads. Don't feel like you've wasted your time though, it might seem like everyone disagrees with you but you can bet there are others reading it who agree with you and who are grateful you were brave enough to argue with the masses! I tend to stay away from controversial threads cos I seem to be quite middle of the road on most things so I come across as not having an opinion. Then the things I do feel strongly about I get too wound to to be able to argue in an articulate way so just look like I don't know what I am talking about!

RE online shopping, no major cock ups on my part but asda here are very bad at not substituting when you are buying as part of an offer (eg when it was 3 wines for £10 one of them wasn't available but instead of substituting it with another wine that was part of the same offer they just delivered 2 bottles which meant I paid full price for those 2 and didn't benefit from the offer)

claireybee · 16/04/2008 14:21

Skid ds isn't too keen on baths so I only bath him once or twice a week! He is getting better though. Tried putting him in with dd but he screamed and it upset her so now I bath him first then top it up with more hot water for her.

cazzybabs · 16/04/2008 14:31

OMG - can I tell you about my terribly embaRRISING incident that happened todat. I was my freinds house - prayer group. We were paraying for the holy spirt - well I wasn't blessed by the holy spirt...but it was all quiet evis is on my lap. She starts to poo (quielty I may add) - I cam't move - lots of prsying. I think I'll wat to change her. It finishes I stand up to chat someone and she notices my skirt...oh yes Evie's poo had escaped out of her nappy, through her trousers and onto my skirt and jumper...oh it was sooo mortifing. Then I had to stay for coffee...oh well.

Wizzska · 16/04/2008 14:50

Pecka that's a really good article. How refreshing. And Clairey, I'll stop worrying about night wakings. Am used to less sleep now anyway. Last night DS went straight back to sleep at 5 instead of needing lots of settling and DH and I couldn't get ourselves back to sleep, ended up whispering to each other about gardening.

OP posts:
claireybee · 16/04/2008 15:10

LOL Wizz! It's the same for me though, even if ds does sleep I still don't!

Cazzy poor you, have been very lucky and have had no poo incidences so far with ds. bound to now I've said that though!

BouncingTurtle · 16/04/2008 15:24

Cazzy - oh dear, what a trauma! I hope your fellow prayer partners offered you some tea and sympathy!

Just found out the nursery i want ds to go to is closing in May! Back to the drawing board...

suey2 · 16/04/2008 15:34

cazzy, how .

Bt that must have been such a panic! I remember feeling quite panicked when i took millie underwater deliberately for the first time! Glad you and LO are ok.

Clara- millie started screaming during her lunchtime nap- she had managed to trap both legs between the cot bars! Grobag for all naps now

suey2 · 16/04/2008 16:56

new photo on profile- hope it doesn't give you a sore neck!

Beanstermummy · 16/04/2008 19:49

Suey and Clara - I always remember with DD1 going in once when she was 4 months or so and she was sitting quite merrily with both legs dangling out between the bars of her cot - she had such a quizzical look on her face as if to say - "Mummy - why are my legs stuck here?" I'll never forget - but lesson learn and DD2 now has grow bag for all naps - it also helps get them used to the association that bag = sleep.

Mind you we seem to be having separation anxiety extrordinaire at the moment - I used to be able to feed, bedtime kiss and then pop her in the cot and away she's go - but no more. She screams the minute I leave the room. This goes on for half an hour or so then eventually she settles after a few more hugs???????

Having quite a good week after last one to be honest - I think as DH is sofa bound after foot op so I'm having to do just about everything round the house and with DC's that in a way it's been good for me. Realising I can cope and disasters haven't been occurring every 5 minutes has helped loads if I'm honest. See the Doc again tomorrow for chat.

As for Baths - can't get Freya out of hers - but that's probably coz she shares with big sister and is obsessed by her! Actually just thought, she's not had one for a week now - feel guily now for my bath bombed long soak the other day - oh well, she doesn't smell yet!!

Wizzska · 16/04/2008 19:50

Aww Suey, what a gorgeous smile! Lovely pic.

OP posts:
BouncingTurtle · 16/04/2008 20:52

Suey2 - Great pic, Millie is cuter than ever

I've put the cot bumper on, as it goes all the way around, but I think I will have to remove it once he can sit up, is this correct?

Been to look at another nursery, brand new (though the company that runs it have had a few others in the area for awhile) it's all purpose built, very new and shiny, staff seem very keen and friendly, kids that I saw seemed very content and there were lots of toys and activities. Not at all fazed by cloth nappies, couple of the babies they have atm wear them.
Security is top notch too, DH and I will need to get passes to get onto the business park it is located in!
It is a little on the pricey side but I think it;ll be worth it, plus the hours are long, so we won't be penalised if I am a little late picking ds up. It's on my way to work as well. I will have to go back full time, but I reckon if I change my hours to 8am - 4pm, it won't be too bad - I'll drop ds off at 7.30 and pick him up at 4.30.

macdoodle · 16/04/2008 21:37

2nd jabs today finally - bit late due to neurotic mummy and bad cold - she seems ok bit grumpy but gone down with a bit of calpol ...
Also weighed today 17lbs6oz at 15+ weeks - health visitor looked shocked when I said I was still ex BF [proud mummy emoticon] ...
Not sure what to do as still not taking bottle - either screams if tired or just plays with teat and spits out with big grin - aaaghhh....chucking out EBM at a rate and can't be arsed to keep expressing - will try mixed feeds when EBM used up (any hints/links from FF on these new rules for mixing formula very grateful please)...back to work in 7 weeks so starting to feel pressure....she doesn't seem ready for solids and TBH not that bothered until she is ....
BT am totally neurotic about bumpers have this morbid fear that she will get caught and strangled in the bumper - I figure that they can't get head through bars of cot and arms/legs preferable to head - just me being neurotic so sorry if worries you
Oh and new pic on photos - did for friend who sent her the Boden dress and lovely leather shoes - she is normally dressed in Asda or Tesco's or DD1 hand me downs

MamaMaiasaura · 16/04/2008 22:23

suey2 - i know how stressful it can be with lo seeming to cry whenever you put them down. I often end up eating my dinner with ds2 on my lap atm and somedays feel like i can get nothing done. They arent 'misbehaving' though and it is a completely reasonable reaction they are giving, even though it doesnt seem that way to us. Cuddling is as much of a need as a nappy change or a feed, could be teething or a bit of a bug as well. My dp gets frustrated with it too but says he understands and does pick up the slack. hth x

Clara - just posted on the 'other' thread you are right, we do things differently I also cant keep my mouth shut either.

Wizzka Mine much improved now too, ds2 seems to have cleared blockage. I Think i get blocked because i hold my boob when feeding as gianormous and worry about suffocating him (though i know i wont i am just illogical )

Sounds like our los are def following the 'book' and having their growth spurts. Fav thing atm is making samuel chuckle, is so funny and sweet. Ds1 remains as a fantastic big brother, am so pleased.
Been feeding loads in public today as went to Paultons Park for entire day and therefore ds2 needed 3 feeds. It was ok, he was pulling off a bit (think teething or the fact not comfy quiet home!) but was ok. His ears seem much improved still on AB's but nerly done. 15 weeks tomorrow!! Quick question (will start a thread about it too) has anyones baby got 'clicky joints'? Ds2 shoulders keep clicking, think it was from when i delivered him.

BouncingTurtle · 17/04/2008 06:28

Awen - no clicky joints here, have you mentioned it to your HV?

Mac - wow, you must be producing super mummy milk! The news pix are fab, your dd2 looks so adorable in her dress! Don't worry about the whole bumper thing, he has been fine with it, made sure he can't get any of the ties, and he has excellent head control - the danger is using them when they don't have good head control. I'm always worried more about suffocating him against my enormous norks
Which reminds me must ring our NCT bra fitter - want to get properly measured so Dh can buy me a nice new bra for my birthday!

Wizzska · 17/04/2008 08:53

Awen, yes DS's joints click. Even when I'm gently holding him whilst feeding. He doesn't seem bothered so I'm not worried about it.

DS had his 3rd set of jabs yesterday. Am so glad we don't have to do that for a while, poor little mite.

Wizzska · 17/04/2008 10:49

I've put a new picture on too, wanted to be like Suey.

OP posts:
claireybee · 17/04/2008 11:01

Great pics! Wizz did you say Rory was 25th%? Only ds is just above the 25th but Rory looks tons bigger in your pics! Macdoodle wow do you make clotted cream or something?! Am jealous-I love chunky babies!Suey Millie has the cutest smile and even in your early pic her face was her own iykwim?

DS has yet another cold. Really don't think my milk is doing its job antibodies wise

Wizzska · 17/04/2008 11:13

Clairey, he's got a fat face in the most recent pic, I think its the angle I took it - and he looks like his fat faced dad!

OP posts:
claireybee · 17/04/2008 11:26

Ds has a fat face too, I love squishing his cheeks! Think maybe it is also the grown up clothes on Rory make him look bigger, ds also looks bigger in seperates than dungarees/babygrows

Louise76 · 17/04/2008 11:29

Hi, Reading this thread makes me feel better!! DD is clingy at the moment and will not have a nap in her cot during the day which is really annoying. I just go in the shower and let her cry for a little while (bad mummy!!) I'm taking her for a walk at least once a day so that she will have a nap otherwise she ends up overtired. Still sleeping through so can't complain but her clingyness is making it more difficult to settle her.

cazzybabs - I had a very similar experience to yours at the doctors surgery a couple of weeks ago. DD pooed everywhere - it was dripping out of her trouser leg and was on the carpet and all over her clothes. Luckily a lovely woman helped me carry her and all her stuff in to the baby changing room. I'm still when I think about it!

claireybee · 17/04/2008 11:33

Mumsnet is great for that isn't it Louise? If I didn't come on here I'd be in despair imagining that all the other babies were self settling, sleeping through, never crying etc. As it is I know ds is only slightly worse than everyone else!

macdoodle · 17/04/2008 11:36

very grumpy post jabs baby here
poor thing napping on my lap after screaming sobbing fit - only 1 half hearted smile so far - and she is usually such a happy placid baby

claireybee · 17/04/2008 11:36

Forgot to say yesterday I tried expressing in preperation for my London trip...half an hour and two bloody ounces! Pathetic!

Plan is to express each eve after kids in bed and then give it to ds as his bedtime feed instead of a breastfeed...hope I can get more after a couple of days of expressing
