Hello ladies, will you join me here?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
claireybee · 09/04/2008 15:36

Wizz do you find that once ds has woken once that's it for the night? That is what happens here-if we get a long stretch at the beginning of the night he'll wake fewer times afterwards but if he wakes after only a couple of hours he continues doing the same all night...

claraquitetirednow · 09/04/2008 15:37

Hi all having bad nights - to add to what Claireybee says below, dd2 was bad for a week or so about a week or two ago and I am convinced it was 16 week growth spurt as she seems suddenly to have grown both physically and developmentally. She seems to have calmed down again now.

Have just had some Americans come to look at our house, which we will be letting out while we are away. They seemed impressed but who knows. Hope they take it, it will be one weight off my mind.

claireybee · 09/04/2008 15:38

fenugreek for you Caz

Caz10 · 09/04/2008 18:12

afternoon all!

Jags here today and one VERY cranky baby...although better after some Calpol and a long afternoon nap.

Clairey thank you for that link, the stuff i am taking is just quite expensive, don't think i'll be able to keep buying! I don't feel or see a difference, BUT my dinky DD has put on 7oz a week every week since i started, which is a record for her...probably psychological but of course i am too scared to stop now!
Also thanks re 4mth waking/growth spurt...now when will it be over?! . I did notice that dd's 2 night feeds last night were not as long/ferocious as normal so maybe things are calming down.

BT - ooooops!! hee hee yes i was enquiring after your ds not hubby! My dd is under 12lbs too - maybe they will sleep more when they get bigger?? (based on my scientific survey of...our 2 babies!).

Not much sleep last night here either- finally down at 9.30, then feeding at 11.30, 2.30, 5.30 (she's very punctual my girl!) then just dropping back off at 6 when she did a poo and that was the day started...so tired!

clara - fab! to your spa booking, that will be wonderful! things like that are my incentive to get dd taking ebm bottles and/or spacing out feeds - more "me time" required!

thanks all for posting bedtimes! lots of variation - at the moment we're doing roughly 7ish for a bath, with the aim of being fed and sleeping by 8, but she is still hungry and cluster feeding, and i keep having to go back through to feed her again a couple of times after i've put her down. it's a PITA and sometimes i think it'd be easier just cluster feeding through here in front of the telly! but i'm hoping that if every feed after her bath is in the quiet/darker bedroom she might finally get the hint. meantime i'm just doing a lot of running back and forth.

lizzer, ooooo Italy I am so jealous! we are skinto so no hols planned, but i really don't cope well with no hol to look forward to, so thinking of booking something for school Oct holiday - where would be nice and warm then does anyone think?

wizzska where in the states? i love america, we did a new england/NY honeymoon it was fab!

Caz10 · 09/04/2008 18:13

Ps loucee hope you had a good day in town? dd was so upset after her jags poor thing...we ended up lying on the bed together under a blanket while she fed/cried/snuggled herself better...v nice actually!

Caz10 · 09/04/2008 20:23

OMG - just fed DD and put her down...grizzle grizzle cry cry screeeeeeam so I go back through....pick up, cuddle, put down....I have my ear glued to the monitor now and it's QUIET!

1st time ever.

This is now where I go through to check she's not dead and wake her up in the process

Caz10 · 09/04/2008 20:25

Oh and wizzska to your nights - sleep deprivation is a terrible thing isn't it?

I look and feel like a bag of crap right now.

AND I was made to feel so much worse today...met an ex-colleague - 4weeks after having her 3rd baby - looking thin, fully made up, hair washed AND straightned. How the hell??! I can't get myself together to do that 4 MONTHS after having my 1st!!

Bouncingturtle · 09/04/2008 21:01

My hair hasn't been anywhere near a hairdryer for months...

Yes I'm sure that when our babies get bigger, Caz, they will sleep longer - ds has a very similar pattern to your dd. Ds normally does a poo during or just after his 6am feed - I've learned not to change his nappy as soon as we get up coz I only end up changing him again!

macdoodle · 09/04/2008 21:12

(whispers).....its actually easier with 2...because (a) you have done it before and everything is not so scary and new...and (b)you have to be out and about with the older children....
I have finally got round to straightening my hair now only cos was getting embaressed by the looks from the school mums on the school run

Louise76 · 09/04/2008 21:26

Hello all

I'm getting worried about this '4 month waking in the night thing' as my dd is still sleeping well (fingers crossed) and is 17 weeks tomorrow. I feel for all of you who are having bad nights and hope it improves soon.

How lovely to have holidays to look forward to - we went up north in March for a week and the amount of luggage was unbelievable and almost all was for dd!!

Caz - night time routine:
Bath at 5.30pm (really early but she was getting more and more tired and still sleeps through so we kept bringing it forward)

6 pm (ish) Long feed from both sides

Any time from 7 pm either dh or I take her to her room, wind her and change her nappy. She is usually very sleepy by this time(yawning, rubbing her eyes and sucking her fingers) so button her in to her sleeping bag, kiss goodnight and leave the room and wait outside until she settles herself. This can take anything up to half and hour and sometimes we need to go in and pick her up if she still has wind.

By the way Caz, at your ex colleague - me being groomed would be brush pulled through my hair and teeth brushed. I must have let myself go!!!

macdoodle · 09/04/2008 21:36

Me too DD2 is 15 weeks on Friday and we are having lovely sleep throughs or just one quick feed and back to sleep - am pretty tired despite this so am dreading the 4 month mark

macdoodle · 09/04/2008 21:38

But if that sounds smug we have very long drawn out evening - feed grizzle cry feed grizzle cry before she finally settles usually from bath time (5-6pm) till down time (7-8pm)....which is very hard as I am alone with DD1 who needs feeding bathing attention and cuddles and sometimes activities poor thing

Bouncingturtle · 10/04/2008 05:29

Morning all!
Well from about 6pm (about the time we decided he was ready to bed as he seemed tired) to about 1quarter to 7 he was screaming the place down.
Eventually calmed him, fed him and put him to bed at 7pm. He woke up just after 9pm so brought him down for a feed as we were watching a film, and he dozed off. We took him upstairs and I changed his nappy for a night time one and fed him again and put him down about 10pm. He didn't wake up until 2.15am!! He had a nice long feed, put him back down at 3am but he then woke up at 5am and wouldn't go back to sleep hence posting now. But I feel sooo much better for having a 4 hour stretch so don't mind!
I so hope he keeps it up!

suey2 · 10/04/2008 09:05

caz lol. I had my hair cut for the first time in a year a couple of weeks back- only because i was going to a wedding. I don't ever blowdry/ straighten unless it is a special occasion. Or wear makeup for that matter. (clairey... stop it! i don't want to add to your vivid imagination!) I did have a brazilian a couple of weeks back because i couldn't bear it any longer, BUT they told me not to bring the baby next time! FM, if they charge 55 quid for a bikini wax you think they'd have soundproofed rooms! Will try and find another good waxing place, i think. grr.

Millie woke needing a feed again last night. I know i am lucky compared to wizz and bt with the night waking, but i don't want to be going backwards! She is 16 weeks tomorrow so i hope this ends soon. Back to work (officially) 3 weeks on tues so have to function

buzzybee · 10/04/2008 10:10

Can I have a small boast?

DD1 has been assessed as "gifted" by the educational psychologist (97th %ile, 130 IQ) - which means she's entitled to attend a special school they run here one day per week. I'm excited for her. I knew she was a great reader but didn't actually think she would fall into that top 5%.

Lizzer - we have another follow-up ultra sound scan for Beatrix's kidneys on 20 May. The appointment arrived yesterday. Have you heard anything further?

I had a couple of moles removed yesterday so feeling a bit sore.

Macdoodle, I hear you

Bouncingturtle · 10/04/2008 10:55

Buzzy - wow, your dd1 is awesome - well done to her! You boast away!

Suey2 - I with you - if I went to an establishment like that and they asked me not to bring my baby they just wouldn't have my business again - purely for the fact I don't have anyone to leave ds with during the week.

Gorgeous day here on teesside!

MamaMaiasaura · 10/04/2008 11:29

caz10 - lol about the farting in bath. Some of my ds's (both of them!||) sound like 'man' farts.. (mine do too tho )

LIzzer here is link for carseats

Sorry for those having broken nights. Samuel didnt settle down till 9.30 last night, lots of little feeds, wriggling (cos of sore ear), spitting out calpol, crying about ear drops etc etc... anyway after all that he slept all night and at 7.30 he was still asleep. As he has had diahorria i dream fed him, and he took a nice long feed and slept till 8.30am. He was thrashing about, and whacking his other ear.. which is also infected with discharge ANother trip to drs who have now prescribed oral antibiotics which they should have given him 2 days ago according the the dr i saw. Need to watch his tummy too. Am going to wrap him up really well later and take both boys out for a walk. Was worried about taking out baby whilst poorly but dr said it would be fine. LIttle samuel was grinning away at the dr, he is such a little love. Oh, and dr asked if i used to get earache as a child alot (i did) as apparntly it can run in family.

MamaMaiasaura · 10/04/2008 11:34

buzzy wow re dd Well done to her! Can i ask what her reading age is etc as ds1 is 7 and reading ago of 10/11 but the school dont seem to have anything extra in place to support this. Ouch for the moles, hope it heals quick.

Re the sleeping through, I think that most babies dont go all night for quite a while think looking 8 months plus. I know samuel sleeping through now but think that is because he is poorly and also not needing to build up my supply anymore atm. Am sure in a few weeks it will all change, and then teething will kick in with avengence. With ds1 i was more concerned about the sleeping thing but just think now best not to get to worried and having a bedtime routine is good but they wont always follow it

claraquitetirednow · 10/04/2008 13:34

I agree with macdoodle, it is easier to do things like look after yourself the 2nd time round. I think you already have an established routine around the first child and usually the baby fits in round that. I remember being a state for ages after dd1. This time I don't think I ever left my hair to dry naturally.....

claraquitetirednow · 10/04/2008 13:35

Buzzy - well done to your dd, that sounds brilliant, you must be very proud.

claraquitetirednow · 10/04/2008 13:47

I wasn't a state after dd1, I was IN a state. Sorry, trying to type and wait for dead dd1 to finish doing a poo on the toilet at the same time....

macdoodle · 10/04/2008 13:53

ph Clara PSML I do hope you meant DEAR DD1 and not DEAD DD1 the joys of typing one handed

claraquitetirednow · 10/04/2008 14:07

err yes that should be DEAR dd! Although after the smell of that poo, it's more like dead mummy.....

Ambi · 10/04/2008 15:15

Hi all, I have the start of a cold which feels really crap and also what feels like pre menstrual symptoms, very strange as it?s been so long. Not only that, awaiting a 2 week refund from a seller on ebay, whilst contacting him, my ebay account has been hacked I?ve been locked out and now cannot remember the security details from when I set up the account 6 years ago, so doubly locked out, how fabulous.

Claraq ? well done on dummy weaning, I?m so not brave enough for that at all. And yes, also of the spa, esp. now I feel so pants.
Caz ? DD still goes to bed 9-10, I would like to bring it forward but DH wants time to play with her in the evening. I have times when I don?t use the monitor, but sometimes I have it on and just watch her sleeping on the screen.
Lizzer ? I have now idea how the baby abroad thing is going to work at all, think I?ll be stocking up with formula cartons. I need a sunny holiday though, I can?t blardy wait.DD
Buzzy ? that?s great news about DD, you must be so proud.

Aw our babies are not cute newborns which everyone coo?s over anymore, but I?m loving this age much more when they start to communicate and become more animated, after wailing at the nurse yesterday, DD even gave her a smile! 4 months already though ? she?s growing up so fast!

Caz10 · 10/04/2008 15:42

Afternoon all, well thank goodness it's not just me who's foundation has probably gone off by now and who's GHDs are gathering dust...!

DD still a bit grizzly after her jags - very wearing - I now really appreciate her being so good humoured normally!

Well done buzzy junior that is fab! Great that they are recognising and doing something too, not all schools would be so pro-active.

Suey at your waxer, cheeky bint, what are you supposed to do with your baby? Esp a breast-fed one? Enjoy your London meet up!

Trying to be chilled re the night wakings and be positive - I know she needs the food, I know that they are going to happen so there's no point getting stressed, and also thanking my lucky stars she is not hard to resettle. There, did that sound convincing?!
