merryberry · 02/04/2008 10:31

tell her you were asleep piggyp, on her advice

turtle23 · 02/04/2008 13:45

Midwife visit on day 5: "Now, dont get upset, but your baby is bound to have lost a significant amount of weight with his jaundice and dehydration, the tongue tie, etc as well as that just being what babies do." ok, i said, let's weigh him. "Hmm..that can't be right...what did you say his birthweight was? He seems to have gained 500g..." SO PROUD OF MY PIGLET!!!!! Have realised that I have got loads of time and CAN get everything done if I stop looking at him for 5 minutes. Easier said than done, though.

spugs · 02/04/2008 17:35

yay turtle, would have liked to have seen look on her face

e14mum · 02/04/2008 18:53

wow turtle! piglet indeed. have to get hero weighed tomorrow to see if she's back up to her birth weight. monkey has been going 5 hours bw feeds today- boobs feel bursting- but i feel miles more rested. fingers crossed she does the same tonight too!

WHWD-i had a debrief with the midwife who delivered hero and found it so helpful and really helped move on to enjoy my baby. hope yours goes well too.

HolidaysQueen · 02/04/2008 19:14

Guys - I'm finally here and will join you properly after some dinner (for me and Leo) and The Apprentice Meanwhile I've written a Dostoevsky-esque essay of a birth story here

Glammama · 03/04/2008 09:01

Wow HQ what a story! So glad everything turned out well and congratulations on Leo.

Congrtaulations to everyone else as well. I did know who you are but my sleep deprived brain has temporarily mislaid your names.

Right e14mum you are my neighbour and Hero (love the name) is Charlie's designated parallel play mate (I have decided).
Would you like to come to some baby massage sessions up near me on Hanbury Street? I really would like to meet Hero and I have remembered how important it is to be with other new mums at this time (and I'm thinking of myseld at this moment in time here). And if we don't do baby massage there's always cake... Email me at [email protected]

I'd love to meet everyone else too, of course it's just that e14mum lives about a mile away from me. Please get in touch, anyone, if you want to meet up.

Turtle Well done on your big Piglet. DD had positional talipes and was fine. Just did some exercises.

Somehow now I have to fill out an Employee Profile Form for redeployment. I have sections entitled "Skills", "Knowledge", "Aptitude", and "Experience"
Would it work if I wrote that I'm able to turn on the PC (knowledge) write my form in Word (Skills) because I've done it before (Experience) and all while I'm fecking exhausted due to having 3 meaningless hours of sleep (Aptitude).
They're being quite nice though and letting me hand in the form after DD goes back to school after the break. Don't see the rush myself though, I have no intention of going back for at least 6 months.

Right, off to mainline some more coffee before Charlie wakes again. He must be due to wake as he's been asleep for ooh, at least 30 mins.

spugs · 03/04/2008 10:55

hq - wow thats a story and a half, glad its all worked out well and that you ve been well looked after.

i have a sore boob!! its driving me mad as im not breast feeding and havent been prodding them! the pain is around the bottom and behing the nipple but theres no redness or hardness. my milks practically dried up so i dont know what it is. cant ask mw either as i ve been signed off and though they did say to ring if i had any problems theyve taken my notes which have all there numbers on!

OnlyOnePairOfHands · 03/04/2008 11:16

It's me, Glammama.

I'm not even ironically glam anymore so needed a change. This name reflects my current status quite well, I think.

piggyp · 03/04/2008 12:07

turtle impressive weight gain! My dd has gained nearly I pound in a week - since i stopped following mw's advice to feed whenever dd cried! Have got an electric pump now and it is great fun!
Glam /OOPOH it is hard to feel glam under layers of crusty milk and wee soaked jeans - or maybe that's just me. I feel a bit weird about using deodrant too, nasty chemicals so near the milk bar! I've tried one of those mineral aluminuim free jobs but it doesn't really work, i seem far sweatier than normal even with proper deodrant.

Mums of girls - anyone else overcome with pink? I've put Emily in blue today and she looks so sweet, she's very fair so it suits her so much better!

Any HR / employment rights people around? Having work dilemas at them moment. I'm a teacher so school want to know if i'll be back in sept (fair enough). Prob is the part time timetable they have offered is (deliberately?) badly arranged - lesson then free then lesson etc so that I have two days worth of lessons but spread over three days - this means that after childcare costs and petrol I would hardly earn anything! So I'm not going back. Problem is I need to tell them that i won't be back in september without losing august, sept and oct's maternity pay! Really need to tell them that i will take a year off and then resign from jan - but not sure if i can do both at the same time! it wouldn't be so bad if the head wasn't a bully and v scary ( a s$%£ basically) and i could have a sensible discussion. He keeps sending horrible letters asking what i am going to do. Any ideas?

piggyp · 03/04/2008 12:18

Blimey HQ just read your birth story - well done you!
Must say I have been full of admiration for NHS too. So much support, especially with BF.

modsaluk · 03/04/2008 16:12

Thank You MerryBerry for the tips on expressing, the midwife kept advising me not to do this but i ignored her advice and expressed a little from each breast they were a lot better the next morning wish i had done it earlier.

When the twins were first weighed Harry who weighed 7lbs 3oz at birth weighed 7lbs and Millie who weighed 6lbs 5 1/2 oz at birth weighed 6lbs 3oz. At the next weigh in we were a little worried as Millie has been sick after nearly every feed so if she had not put weight on there might have been a problem but she had put on a whole 5oz and Harry had put on 7oz so really quite relived.

Dreading DH going back to work next Tuesday dont know how i am going to cope, My DS who is 2 1/2 is really testing the water and been quite naughty at times i know it will be so strange for him but dont know how i will cope with his paddys and demands and the twins.

Also does anyone know a way to formula feed twins at the same time they seem to be in a routine with each other at the moment but when DH goes back to work there will just be me !!!

merryberry · 03/04/2008 18:20

yr welcome mods and i found you this cos i saw bottle proppers lioke this in action on cape cod once...si knew what to look for. sounds like theyre not for everyone. my mate on the cape had made her own, liberal use of velcro type stuff going on!

merryberry · 03/04/2008 18:21

p s she said it got easier as they got older

merryberry · 03/04/2008 18:24

ppss and she burpedthe at same time 1 on each shoulder! no patting sort of jigged and dipped to fetch up bubbles. looked bonkers but usually worked

e14mum · 03/04/2008 20:46

glam/oopoh i would love to meet up! will be in touch soon.
well, hero is stil not back to her birth weight. Got weighed today and she's actually lost weight since last week. Feeling calm at the mo but will prob cry later. taking her to see consultant tomorrow. noone is overly cncerned b/c she looks healthy, is alert, sleeps well, and has appropriate dirty nappies... but why is she not piling on the pounds? Have been instructed to bf on demand like crazy and express/cup feed to get supply up and then see on monday if it's helped. any advice?

merryberry · 03/04/2008 21:02

was here with ds1, who was just 6lb13 at birth. i advise relax, once you've had your weep and got it out of your system. don't let the worry which is so natural get in the way of your bf hormones and let down etc. then do the MN time honoured BF classic babymoon thing. cancel all w/e plans, go to bed with baby and feed, doze, eat, drink. TikTok's recent help/discussion on a jan thread might be of interest?

and really really try not to worry and don't let them panic you. She'll either be a) following her own groove, and growing at her own rate or b) she needs a bit of review from the old medics and you've got that plugged in well. She sounds lovely.

merryberry · 03/04/2008 21:02

erm your hero does not the HV, BTW!

fitnfortyone · 04/04/2008 13:56

e14, hero's such a lovely name, from my favourite Shakespeare play too
If they're happy that she looks fine and it's coming out the other end regularly then hopefully that's fine and it's nothing for you to worry about (easier said than done huh?). Doesn't it take longer for bf babies to regain their weight anyway?

I was really chuffed today to find Edwyn's put on 12oz since last weigh-in, and 8 on top of his birth weight, he's 3wks tomorrow and 9lb 6 now so a big bruiser. Feeling much happier with only the occasional guilt trip like last night where he wouldn't sleep except on my chest and kept headbutting me until he crawled to my nipple which wasn't going to give him what he was looking for. He just gets really frustrated then and feel like the worst mum in the world until he falls asleep and his little face looks so contented and all is well with the world again.

piggyp · 04/04/2008 15:17

e14 don't know if it helps but my dd took over three weeks to get back to birth weight - and that only really happened once i started expressing the morning surplus and using that to fill the evening drought. also i wasn't eating enough - 3000 calories a day! don't forget that different scales may not be quite the same and it makes a difference if she has just fed / pooed or not!

monthlymayhem · 04/04/2008 15:25

Hi all

Last few days have been very up and down, although reading Preggersagain's update puts things into perspective (hope they are continuing to recover and doing well).

Lewis I think has colic - sometimes he really does scream like a wild animal and nothing we do seems to help him until he eventually cries it out of his system...It's really distressing to hear and his Daddy is struggling to deal with it

Boobs are starting to heal, altho he has a habit of squirming and twisting my nipple after 10 mins or so with wind but not wanting to let go! He has also been projectile vomiting at least a couple of times a day, but got weighed yesterday and has gone from his birth weight of 6lbs 2oz to 6lbs 8 in 2 weeks, and has lots of dirty and wet nappies, so they are not concerned about the sickness. I think he is just greedy and his little stomach can't keep up.

I'm really looking forward to when he can smile as at the moment if he's not sleeping or eating he just seems to be crying and miserable!

Anyway 3.30pm already and hoping to get him out in the pram for a walk!

merryberry · 04/04/2008 16:02

MM, GG has had colic for over a week now and unlike ds1 is helped a lot by a dummy to suck. you've probably already tried that, just passing it on as a tip in case. he uses it in short bursts in the evening. my MW also recommended drinking a good 4 cups of fennel tea a day which supposed to help them digest. it's certainly not harming, i quite like it!

e14mum · 05/04/2008 14:03

Thanks for the reassurance mb, fnf1 and pp. The medics ruled out most things yesterday- just waiting on some urine sample cultures.

Hi all - first proper post on here - it's good to join you Just about to post a couple of pics of Leo on my profile page. They should be there shortly.

We have had a fun first few days at home with Leo, who is adorable, although there have been a couple of concerns, both rectified in the last 24 hours. Firstly, my milk came in yesterday - we started the day with a baby who was very hungry, clingy and lethargic and who was just starting to worry us and ended the day with a sated, happy baby who gave us our first 2 decent periods of 2.5 and 1.5 hours sleep last night. Secondly, this afternoon he finally had a poo for the first time since leaving hospital! He'd passed his meconium okay but for some reason then just stopped and we've had 3 days of nothing but wet nappies. The midwife wasn't getting overly concerned unless it went on a couple more days, but finally this afternoon it got sorted out. DH and I are still reeling from the shock of how much came out in one go! No wonder the poor boy has been grizzly with wind/burping etc. - there was tonnes of stuff clogging up his insides!!!

fitnfortyone · 05/04/2008 19:48

omg! Just how can something so small make such a bog noise? At least the crying waited until doctor who had finished, he obviously doesn't like the nancy singers
