is it worth posting in legal advice to see if there's anything you can do?

PillockOfTheCommunity · 04/03/2008 11:43

I will have effectively made myself homeless in their eyes, by not paying the rent, so they have no obligation to house me.

Been there, done that SPB. I got myself into this mess and the only thing I can do now is to argue my case in court.

Justin has been a pillock in the past, can he / would he help now? he bloody wel;l should

Bramshott · 04/03/2008 11:47

Oh Pillock - that sounds crap. Can you see yourself being able to put anything towards it between now and then? Surely as you say, if you are showing willing, they can give you some time. Don't forget to tell the judge it is J's first birthday!

CaptainDippy · 04/03/2008 11:50

Oh POTC Praying it doesn't happen. Is there anything we can do?? Do you need character witnesses or anything? I'd be willing to vouch fory ou honey!

Right, need to feed hungry beast and get out of here pronto .....

StealthPolarBear · 04/03/2008 11:50

day after Joe's birthday is shit Plus the fact that it's 5 or 6 weeks away so it'll be playing on your mind until then

NorthernLurker · 04/03/2008 11:51

POTC - this sounds a bit grim. Won't you be assigned a new sw?

What's up with the job Dippy - and which job is it?

CaptainDippy · 04/03/2008 11:52

If the worst happens (which it is not going to!!!!!!) you and your boys are welcome here any time ......

NorthernLurker · 04/03/2008 11:53

Caz - so sorry about the school places - but I think having sibling issues does give you something to appeal with anyway. There will have been threads about this in Education I think - maybe have a look there as well?

NorthernLurker · 04/03/2008 12:03

POTC - have you looked on the shelter website - there is a shelter advice place in Colchester - looks like they don't cover Bury St Edmunds - but I gave them a quick ring to see who did and she (the administrator) said that they could get a case worker to call you? They wanted to ring me but there didn't seem a lot of point to that as I don't know your circumstances - their number is 0844 5151860 or freephone 0800 085 1798. Maybe worth a go?

cazboldy · 04/03/2008 12:14

Thanks Ellie / SPB.

Have emailed her - hope she doesn't mind

Thanks NL - I didn't even think about that, but I have already written that I intend to appeal, as it tells you to do that on the forms, and then they send you a load more forms to fill in

I will ring and ask to speak to my old deputy head later - he is in charge of admissions now - he can remember me at school when I was pg with James!

Ellie - what a shit situation! Can you afford to pay your rent from now on excluding the arrears? (hope you don't mind me asking) then come to some kind of arrangement about paying the arrears? Even £5 a month would be showing willing wouldn't it?

Dippy, my love, anything we can do to help?

NorthernLurker · 04/03/2008 12:25

right - am now 'officially' worried about B - she has slept all morning and then needed changing - but she wouldn't even wake up properly for that - just cried with her eyes shut. Have rung mil ( a nurse) and now have doctors appt for 4.40

cazboldy · 04/03/2008 12:41

oh dear NL she does sound poorly.

does she have a temp?

That is quite a while to wait, can't yu get her sen sooner? maybe as an emergency?

cazboldy · 04/03/2008 12:42

can you get her seen sooner even

NorthernLurker · 04/03/2008 12:43

she is hot - but it's time for more calpol - they didn't have anything earlier and i've got to get girls from school anyway. will see how we go

StealthPolarBear · 04/03/2008 12:45

oh no NL Hope she's OK

cazboldy · 04/03/2008 12:50

hope she is ok NL,, look after her, and yourself {{{hugs}}}

NorthernLurker · 04/03/2008 12:56

thanks - just put her in her cot whilst I went to the loo - she would normally crawl about but she's not up to that of course - she protested only slightly - I really wish she'd made a big fuss!

PillockOfTheCommunity · 04/03/2008 12:58

oh NL hope she picks up soon

Justin is on holiday. a 2 week foreign holiday. he has no job at present, and when he starts the new one he says he will be taking a pay cut of around £5k so will be unable to pay me anywhere near what he is paying now.

I don't have a new SW, I only knew mine had left because I asked my friend to find out why I'd heard nothing. The friend was a friend of my mum before she left us and has looked out for me ever since. She works in a different department but her boss has let her take on my case. She will do what she can, and I trust her, which helps. She came round last night, I've rung her and told her the letter has arrived (we were expecting it) and she's coming round tonight to look at it and tell me what she's found out today.

The barrier I'm coming up against is taht I'm not on benefits. I have less income than those that sit on their backsides at home all day through choice, and I don't play the system by claiming things I'm not really truly entitled to, which goes against me and means I get lumped in the 'working' category rather than 'benefits' and miss out on help that I could otherwise get. Hence SS want me to quit work .

Spoke to my boss about it on the phone (off work as J ill) and he has said he will do everything he can to help me, and if we can work out how much more I need to be earning to cover everything he will see what he can do with the payrise due in April.

cazboldy · 04/03/2008 13:08

he sounds very reasonable Pillock.

My sister is a single mum, and she works 18 hours a week, but still gets (a little) help with her rent and council tax.

but my mum and dad pay for her oil, and her electric, or she wouldn't be able to make ends meet

Do you get much help re tax credits/ working family credits (doubt it, but thought I would ask!)

It is so bad that those that are prepared to help themselves, get punished for doing so!

mammyjo · 04/03/2008 13:12

Pillock, would you consider cutting your hours and claiming something? I know that we have had a few people who would never work more than 16 hours a week as it would affect their benefits. I know you want to work, so maybe not an option, just thought I would suggest it.
Glad you have someone from SS on your side. What an absolute nightmare, why is it that people who actually make an effort to work end up getting penalised for it? It is just so unfair. Really hope everything goes well for you xxx

NL, how is B now? Is she still hot/floppy? Is she drinking? Any rash? Tbh, if she really isnt well I would forget the doctor's appointment and get her to A+E.

mammyjo · 04/03/2008 13:13

X post Caz. Hope the school appeal gets you the right decision

mammyjo · 04/03/2008 13:14

Sorry, read that back and I have now probably scared the living daylights out of NL! Didnt mean to, sorry
