Oooops no room to link to old thread!

Lol at AQ forgetting that she is pg Sure the madness will pass. And don't worry about my chocolate supply, I live round the corner from Tesco

Jabber I think you should pop ds in the post and I'll sned him on holiday with all my clibing friends, they do similarly dangerous stunts on a larger scale. He'd have a ball

Hello!!!!

Had a skim but not read in full.

Congrats to Aunty Oli and her sister

And congrats to the housemovers

Sympathy on sleep

And MMR nerves (ds has his on Monday, the research is such a minefield but I'm happy with my decision, having studied with a phd student doing her research into autism last year helps somewhat )

Welcome to Solo

Yay for posh hotel rooms.

Right then, holiday. The cottage was lovely, really child friendly. They had everything you could possibly need including boxes of duplo, lego, brio, kids books, board games, shelves of adult books, videos and dvds for all ages, a high chair, several sets of cot bedding, a potty, a toilet trainer seat...whatever the age of your chid they had what you need! With I'd known that before I filled the boot with toys and highchair etc! Sleep was ok, had a fair amount of trouble getting him down but he didn't do too badly once asleep.

Over the holiday ds has: cut 2 more teeth, been to the dr as ear was weeping again (but he thought it looked ok and was prob just because he had a cold rather than infection coming back so fingers crossed), become loads more confident cruising, stood unaided for first time (about 10 seconds, cried the whole time ), mastered 'uh oh' to be used whenever he drops something, said 'daddy' for the first time and is generally starting to show language coming through. Oh and he can do a good red indian whoop too (you know the one where you pat your mouth while giving the cry).

Ds and language is so funny [linguistics geek emotion] as he sings all the flipping time. Sometimes you wonder if he has said something but it is very hard to pinpoint as he is far more in tuime with rhytm and intonation than the actual phonemes. dada, dado etc are some of his fave sounds to sing but it was only on holiday that he def said daddy as he rolled over, pointed at dp and said it. He is starting to say yes sometimes too. He loves to chat on the phone (he has an old one he plays with) and he has wonderful conversation that start with something like 'awa' in chirpy singsong secretary voice and then some intense babbling. Today was comical with a conversation that went 'awa' pause 'yeah' pause 'yeah' pause 'yeah'....you get the picture!

Anyway frustrating at times as he is not easy to understand but fab to see how things are filtering through and coming together. You just don't the the insight into the thought processes and the way they put the building blocks together with a quiter child

Anyway I shall stop being a really annoying mother of a pfb now and crack on.

hi everyone. Havent caught up I'm afraid. Had physio today. Ouch. She thinks I am expetcing a bit too much of my body. It's going well though. I now have 1 crutch and not two!

DD2 adorable. She has leanrnt how to play 'chase' with DD1.

Indith - PFBdom is great. Make the most of it. I often feel sad for DD2 that she doesnt have such undivided attention from us, but then she has a big sister who adores her so it compensates

jabberwocky · 05/04/2008 00:37

lennied, I was just talking to my bf last night and we are both actually looking forward to going back to work more or less full-time. I was just not cut out to spend this much time at home with small children apparently. so come July it will be cut way back and I'm definitely ready.

Indith, sounds like a really wonderful trip! Glad to have you back.

FGS, one crutch is so much easier than two, isn't it? That's a huge milestone imo. Just don't get excited and overdo

Indith · 05/04/2008 17:05

Oh FFS I just realised that should I get a bfp this month my due date will be Christmas eve. Don't know why I'm thinkinbg about that anyway mind you, am clearly not anywhere near testing time yet. Just spotted that there is a Dec 08 thread and my brain went clunk. Mind you I did want a roughly 2 year age gap

Lennied · 05/04/2008 20:00

DD has decided tonight she doesn't want to sleep in her cot, she wants to sleep in her bed. The bed has always been in her room, made up in case of need, and tonight she got in herself for her bedtime bottle and snuggled down and screamed every time I tried to move her into her cot. Have finally got her to go in her cot but am thinking it might be an idea to order some bed guards. Do you think it is too early to move her? She is a competent walker and can climb on and off things like the sofa quite happily so I'm not worried about her hurting herself...although she might wake up and forget where she is . The bed has one of those pull out mattresses underneath (is a proper mattress the same as the top one with a frame of its own) so I could always put her in the lower half. She just seems too little though. What do you think?

Jabber... glad I'm not alone on the SAHM thing. In RL I am quite open about it now and have realised that about half the mums I know feel the same. Some people are more cut out for it than others, I find it wonderful about 75% of the time but the other 25% I am bored and unchallenged. I am going to SAH until she goes to pre-school and then go back to work. I worked in Special Ed before having DD so every day, every half hour in fact, was different, and I miss that challenge.

Lennied · 05/04/2008 20:03

Indith...we are also thinking about no. 2, having the same crisis re: another crimbo baby. I spent from 4am Dec 25 - 3pm Dec 29 in hospital in 2006, don't fancy a repeat performance. What will be will be though eh! We'll have to save all year for December though!

FunkyGlassSocks · 05/04/2008 20:59

Hi Guys, I thought as I havent been out of the house (except for physio yesterday) I should change my name again

Tired today and cant get going with anything...

Jabber - I appreciate the finger-wagging.

lennied - I loved it when DD1 went into a bed. We had to do it as she kept trying to climb out of the cot and her knees would get stuck. DD2 of course will stay in a cot forever

Sorry but Lol @ Indith's potential Christmas Eve!

Indith · 05/04/2008 21:18

Indeed Lennied, I'm just remembering my Christmas spent with a horrible coke, doing lines of paracetamol and wishing for sudafed and not being able to eat much due to a combination of cold and bump taking up my food space. Oh well, ds was 2 weeks late so I'd be due an early one, it works like that right? Right?

FGS, thats right my dear embrace those funky socks and behave . Dp currently having to be ordered to ice his knee and do his physio. He keeps doing way too much on it. Can't wait for consultant appointment to come through to get a better idea of the time frame we are looking at.

I have no boiler It went to boiler heaven.

OP posts:
FunkyGlassSocks · 05/04/2008 21:19

what is he going to need doing Indith?

Indith · 05/04/2008 21:36

Don't know, that is the annoying part. He ruptured his cruciate ligament playing rugby but we don't know when, he only got taken seriously last time it started hurting like hell so that he could hardly walk but he has had the same thing befor a couple of years ago. So far all we know is 3-6 months of physio then reassess but hopefully the consultant will give a better idea of what comes next, ie if physio will be enough by working on other tendons to compensate for it or if reconstruction is the best option.

OP posts:
FunkyGlassSocks · 05/04/2008 21:42

Interesting. My knee hurt a few times a year for the last 4 years and it would last a couple of months. My GP referred me to the consultant and I had my 1st consultant appt > XRAY > MRI > operation in the space of about 12 weeks. I was in two minds whether to go ahead as it wasnt hurting recently (does now though ) Hopefully your DH wont have to wait much longer.

Indith · 05/04/2008 22:10

Pretty speedy then once consultant was seen. Interesting. I think dp's general stubborness doesn't help, he walked to the Dr, was walking "fine" (read hobbling) for the physio. She was surprised to see him as apparently most people take themselves off to A&E!

OP posts:
Lennied · 05/04/2008 22:10

Yes Indith, it DOES work like that

Sorry to hear about the boiler... do you have an imersion heater? Please say yes, it is cold outside and no HW/CH isn't nice. Borrow lots of electric heaters.

Am looking at bed guards now... a lovely MNer has suggested an Ikea one... very pleased about that, excellent excuse for dragging DH to Ikea.

Indith · 06/04/2008 08:57

Morning! Don't worry Lennied we don't have immersion heater as it is a combi boiler, no hot water tank but the shower is electric thankfully. Landlord brought round some heaters so they are dotted around. Am currently in several jumpers and a duvet, but that is normal for being in the loft! The landlord bless him obviously doesn't know this house too well...he said when he brought the heaters that at least it was well insulated with its thick stone walls.

Ds decided to get up at 6.30 this morning and seems like he's set up for a grumbly "I got up too early mummy but don't want to nap I might miss something important" day so I've retreated to the computer, the church bells have just informed me that it is 9am so I have 2 hours of work before elevenses

margosbeenplayingwithmynoonoo · 06/04/2008 13:59

Hi - 'tis me. I tried very hard to catch up and know that AQ and Sacha are pg but I didn't get as far as finding out what happened to you FGS. I hope you're all well.
DD2 is walking confidently now. She still doesn't say any words as such but has the musicality of the word.

She can spot the rustle of a wrapper at 20 paces (the gannett ).

We're all suffering with sinusitis at the moment. I will get an emergency appointment tomorrow methinks.

We have built 2 snowmen today! What a surprise that was! We were in T-shirts on Friday.

babypowder · 06/04/2008 18:00

Indith, do hope you're managing to stay warm.

Hi Margo

I've finally bitten the bullet and have decided to freecycle all but a few choice baby clothes. It's a very emotional moment for me

...Pull yourself together, BP [stern emoticon]

margosbeenplayingwithmynoonoo · 06/04/2008 19:02

Oh and Indith, we've just moved back in after 2 weeks without heating and hot water. Have you any relatives nearby to stay with?

LenniEd · 06/04/2008 22:50

Indith, I'm pleased to hear you've got hot water, was worried. We had no heating for a week last winter, was awful with DD only tiny, but we huddled round the electric heater and were all still in the same bedroom so wasn't too bad. Hope you are ok there today. Tuck the bottom of your pyjamas into your socks and you'll reduce the draughts

Indith · 07/04/2008 09:31

Gosh BP, very brave move (but you do get the joy of sorting and folding all the tiny little things).

We all slept in fleeces and socks last night! It snowed all yesterday and all night too. Landlord rang this morning though and a plumber is coming today!

Just to add to the general stress we are having major wedding venue issues. AQ, seriously woman if you can think of anywhere, ANYWHERE to hold a reception from around 3pm til late for 100 people I will love you and worship you for ever. Plus I told my mum who is up chilminding for me about a tooth that has been giving me the odd twinge and she took a look and it is broken clean across

Oh and ds is supposed to be having MMR today but is all out of sorts and shouty. Keeps hitting the right side of his head

OP posts:
accessorizequeen · 07/04/2008 11:59

Back from long w/end in borders, lovely hotel, v.relaxing, great wedding. Hope Margo & Indith get heating/hot water v.v.soon!
Will catch up on rest tonight, but for now, Indith, eh? Which venues have you looked at already? Mum used the Beverley arms and they had about 70, really good, think they could accommodate more. Is it afternoon & evening? Have you checked the list of venues on the wedding sites for Hull? The university actually host weddings, did you know?

FunkyGlassSocks · 07/04/2008 13:55

Hi everyone. I am getting back into FLYLADY. Those who want to join me, I'll add a link once a day to this thread for the babysteps (unless you tell me not too) .

Babystep 1

I know this isnt baby related but a few of you said you were interested in getting more organised in the house.

LenniEd · 07/04/2008 17:31

I NEVER knew that flylady was a separate entity, I thought it was a MN thing. That has taken me by surprise. I will shine my sink tonight, I have always wanted a shiny sink . I'm not sure I like the idea of having lots of routines though, routines aren't healthy in my book, but I'll give it a go. Thank you FGS.

Not feeling well today, , really tired. Was at uni this morning, 6.30am start, and guess what... gave DD some milk when I got up around 6ish and put her back in her cot thinking DH would need the loo etc so would buy him a bit of time. The little beggar fell asleep again until 9.30am!! Now why has she never done that before and MORE IMPORTANTLY why didn't she do it when I didn't have to get up?

Indith · 07/04/2008 20:28

Lol Lennied, little tricksters!

Ds was very unsettled last night and ended up in with me. Not sure what is bothering him, he is just out of sorts, quick to upset, screaming in highchair but obviously hungry etc. Had MMR today which seemed to wash him out, went to sleep on my mum for over and hour!

Thanks for the FLY link FGS, seems a bit over the top routine but has some good points, may have to wait until after exam madness to start properly (yes I know that isn't the point of it but no way have I got the stamina to implement a new routine while playing catch up with the usual cleaning and washing!)

AQ all lists etc checked, but we are only after a reception place as are getting married at Bev registry office. So far Back Room in Cott which we did have booked is too small, Civic Hall is taken, Good Fellowship on Cott Road is only available from 6pm and we are getting married at 12, Derby and Joan is taken, King Billy taken......The Bev War Memorial Hall is available I found out today so my dad is going to see it for me. Fingers crossed! Though to be honest so long as it is big enough and has a roof I'm taking it!

OP posts:
Indith · 07/04/2008 20:32

How is uni going anyway? 6.30 start

OP posts:
babypowder · 07/04/2008 20:57

Thanks for the link, FGS. I will shine my sink tonight! DH and I spent today going through DD1s room and radically reducing the amount of 'stuff' she has. Carted a couple of sacks up to the charity shop, but most just went into the bin - broken bits of plastic, stray playing cards, that kind of thing. It was a realy eye opener for DH (who tends to indulge DD1 a bit ), so we have agreed that this year she will get experiences (zoo trips, picnics, etc) for her birthday/Christmas rather than yet more 'stuff'

Of course what she really wants is a Nintendo DS ...

I'm a bit fed up with Freecyclers. Why do they say they want something and then never collect? I need to get rid of the baby clothes before I change my mind!

(Can you tell we're hoping to put our house on the market soon?!)
