WO - hurray! I did suspect that having to get an expert involved meant they were struggling to say no and they were grasping at straws! Your boss will have to get over it.

AngeG · 16/02/2008 11:54

Weeonion that is absolutely fantastic, I'm so pleased that they agreed to it
Shame about your boss, but it's not your concern you had to do what was best for you and little C. I'm so pleased.
Have a fab time with your sister.

I'm sat here very bored Izzy is asleep, DH is at work and J is playing. I know I should make the most of it but...

weeonion · 16/02/2008 11:57

ange - put yr feet up and have a well earned rest!

NorthernLurker · 16/02/2008 12:10

WO - that is wonderful news - well done for fighting your corner!

weeonion · 16/02/2008 12:18

ta NL - its really made me realise that some employers think that you have had your time to be a mum while on mat leave and after that - its all back to how it was before. it took alot to do it with PND but a weight is lifted!

elkiedee · 16/02/2008 12:30

WO, great news. Hope you enjoy your time with your sister now too.

I want to go back to sleep. dp left for work at 7.15 so I got up in the middle of the night to be ready for him to do that (about 5.45 am). The worst thing is that though D was asleep, I didn't even get woken up by an alarm, I was already awakeI'm going to have to practice getting early nights I think or going back to work will be hard. His morning nap only lasted 20 minutes.

Am giving D his lunch in his highchair and eating mine, then we'll go out for a bit. DP finishes work at 3 and will come and find us then we'll wander home together.

weeonion · 16/02/2008 12:31

elkie - when are you back to work? any moe on your secret admirer?

Pesha · 16/02/2008 13:02

WO - really glad about the appeal - thats fantastice news!!!

I'm also enjoying all the name talk! DD was nearly Bethany Natasha Hancock (xp's surname) but realised initials would have B N H!! Naming dc after your fave fag brand is definitely chavvy!! XP decided he didnt like his surname so she should have mine and when we got married he would take my surname, I was very glad about that when we split! Although she now has dp's name. Decided on Maia rather than Bethany as B seemed to be a very popular name round here at the time and like Eddas didnt want her to be one of several in her class. If she'd been a boy she prob would have been William Jake. I liked Jake as a firts name but xp's family had a dog called Jake so would have been weird as 1st name. Likewise Natasha, xp wanted it as a 1st name but I once had a cat called natasha so she has it as a middle name.

DS1 is Nathan as it was the only name dp and I could agree on and Peter as it was dp's dad's name. May well have been Ella if a girl but we were really stuck on girl's names.

And ds2 is Dylan as the only name we could agree on and Joseph because I liked it and at one point we discussed Shay as a name, very briefly, and somehow Nathan latched on to this but could only say it as Jay so for a good few weeks after D was born N was telling everyone he was baby Jay! So I wanted a middle name starting with J. If a girl prob would have been Lily cos I think its lovely although slightly put off by its rising popularity.

liath · 16/02/2008 13:10

Great news WO, hope your boss gets over himself soon. Well done for fighting your corner like that.

I'm sure I've said it before but we do have very good taste in baby names on this thread.

We'd always planned Christopher for a boy but it just didn't seem quite right for ds so he's Jonathan Fraser.

Eddas · 16/02/2008 13:15

woo hoo WO some good work news really please for you

I agree, Liath, very good taste in names on our thread

I've put a new picture of ds on my profile

NorthernLurker · 16/02/2008 13:57

house viewing in about thrity seconds. REady by the skin of our teeth and with much snarling from me! will let you know how we get on!!

elkiedee · 16/02/2008 14:11

WO, I'm back at work on 3 March, scary! I'm trying not to think about that weirdo but I do have another idea about who it might be, need to consider it further.

D fell asleep in the middle of lunch, so I tucked him up in the playpen, closed the curtains because the sun was very in his face and had a catnap on the sofa. Am getting him to eat a bit more but will take him out for a bit soon and meet dp.

Several people commmented on how many names D had when he was born for such a little person. Daniel Patrick Ross Calvert Davin is named Daniel for my mother's father, and has my surname, also my mum's name (she went back to her maiden name after she split with my dad around the time I was born and didn't change it again. I changed to my mum's name from my dad's when I left school as it seemed like a good time to do it. My brother and sister also started using our mum's name when their dad left her for someone else). Then D has a middle name which is shared with a few of my family in some form (Patrick) reflecting our Irish via New Zealand heritage! Ross is dp's paternal middle name - him, his dad etc going back had that middle name, and Calvert is his surname so if D wants to use it later it's there.

Didn't want hyphens and double barrelled names as it can be hard being a kid from a weird middle class family in a working class area anyway and that may well happen to D, it did to me. My cousin grew up in Kentish Town and used to leave out the first half of his surname and just be a Smith.

Eeek, that was long. Time to change D and take him out.

I was thinking of Eliza if I had a daughter, probably would have registered her as Elizabeth to give her a choice of abbreviations later. My cousins have already used a lot of names I would have liked for their kids - Rosa, Paddy (Patrick) and Alex(andra).

NorthernLurker · 16/02/2008 14:19

ok - think that went ok - first time buyers - seemed quite interested - liked the bits people usually like and asked how quickly we could move.

It's really interesting seeing how how people have named their children - and I think we all have superb taste!

Elkie - not too many names - he will grow into them!

StealthPolarBear · 16/02/2008 15:58

WO - well done! Although 5/6 hours per day travelling! Is that what you did before? Were you mad?!
Bad luck to your boss, as someone else said he will need to get over it but it's a pity he (she?) had to have nose put out of joint.
I'm pleased that so many people seem to like Daniel as a name - it's my DH's! I love the name, but wouldn't have called T it to subject him to a life as Junior If he'd been a girl he would have been Willow, I'm sure loads of people will be at that but we've always loved it.
Glad the house viewing went well NL - do you think you'll hear from the agents on Monday?
Our bathroom people are still here! Can anyone tell me why they don't flush the toilet when they've used it?

oooggs · 16/02/2008 16:05

dts will have a Willow in their class in nursery and her brother is Jasper

loving the name talk

Am very impressed with all the names

Should find out on Monday about the house, so fingers crossed

Job all sorted, so just waiting on the house, then dh can give notice

StealthPolarBear · 16/02/2008 16:12

crossing two lots of fingers for monday, for caz and NL. Please no-one else ask me as I'm running out.
The job I have the interview for, I may not be interested anymore, depending on where it's based. Finding out on Monday!

Pesha · 16/02/2008 16:14

No idea katy but ewww!!

Our childhood dog was called willow!! I think its a lovely name

I have a horrid cold and tickly cough, has been coming over the last week and I feel poo, all headachey and sinusy and bleurgh Have older dc watching dvd and D in highchair after finishing his lunch (which was late due to him having a late sleep btw, I;m not that neglectful ). DP has football in bristol today and has gone on bus and then got to get lift back here after bumping into back of someone in his car this morning. Which means he prob wont be back till 8 ish by which time dc will be in bed

Not sure how bad his car is but I think the front is bad enough to mean its not roadworthy so we're down to one car again and his excess is £250 I think which is money we havent got

oooggs · 16/02/2008 16:21

caz - 3.3 yrs between James and Erin and 19 minutes between Erin & Jack
& good luck for monday and the house gets sorted

bugger about the car Pesha

oooggs · 16/02/2008 16:21

oh and katy - hope the job turns out the way you want it to

StealthPolarBear · 16/02/2008 16:28

Sexonlegs · 16/02/2008 19:18

No posts for 3 hours. What's going on??

OK, have been reading posts all day, but have forgotten lots.

WO, fab news on the job front. What a huge relief!!

Caz, great news re the house.

NL, glad the viewing went so well. Let's hope they love it!!

Pesha, what a pita re the car. Bloody men drivers!! Hope you are feeling better soon.

Elkie, hope you had a good day.

Hope everyone else is ok.

All fine here. Had a bit of a meltdown earlier. Just feeling like the rest of us - knackered, run down, stressed blah blah. Dh was somewhat unsympathetic "that's just the way it is" but washed up without being nagged and took the girls out for an hour so I could get on with stuff, so obviously took the hint .

oooggs · 16/02/2008 19:40

very quiet
I'm having problems putting children to bed on my own.

Erin wants her bottle and takes it and goes to bed with no fuss, Jack wants 'one to one' and can't have it because when dh on lates I don't know what to do with him. When dh is here he has him while I sort Erin out.

Normally I do dts together whilst James watches tv for half an hour but while Erin lies down and takes her bottle, Jack fidgets, talks, creates and is generally a pita.

I have tried putting him in the cot but he makes too much noise, I can't leave him in front room with James as not fair on James to 'watch' him' and Jack would do anthing he could to cause trouble!!!

any ideas please?

StealthPolarBear · 16/02/2008 19:53

sorry oooggs music? dance around with him?

oooggs · 16/02/2008 19:58

how katy if I am feeding Erin?
