I've never started a new thread before - has this worked?

BT - what a stupid woman, I don't understand why she bothers going to the group either - hopefully like you say she'll find something else to do soon, sorry it made you feel shit

anyone sorted out contracaption yet?? doc reckons my periods have come back (exclusively bf so little unfair) anyone had the coil?

hope everyone had lovely mother's day - since dh forgot my first one last year (don't worry he's never heard the end of it) I left nothing to chance this time and arrange trip to zoo on sat, lunch and my mum and dads on sun but he did remember and I got a lovely homemade card from ds1 and a cooking with your kids cookbook (I love cooking so its perfect)

getting worried about this talk of lack of poo - we're in the same boat - Toby has almost made 2 weeks, but the books say this is ok, he's ex bf - did someone say actually this isn't normal? he seems fine, coo's and plays happily, sleeps well and has really stinky farts but I've put that down to him having a sluggish gut so its hanging around there longer.... from what you are all saying tho I should talk to HV tomorrow??

Bouncingturtle · 03/03/2008 20:07

Insy - I think my period came back last week! No justice is there!
Beanster {sad] for you lovingly cooked lamb... can it be salvaged?

Thanks for all your comments, was feeling very downhearted and crap, but then a colleague rang me for some work, needed some input from me to justify a new piece of kit in the lab. It was good talking work stuff and I actually felt useful!

fifisworld · 03/03/2008 21:19

hello everyone
I haven't been able to get on here for t he past few weeks as my laptop packed in but icve managed to get it sorted now, thank god!
I hadn't realised how much i'd relied on having a computer until it was broke!!
I'm not even going to attempt to catch up with all the messages but will have a read through the last couple of days worth tomorrow.
All's well here with Ethan, 12 weeks on thursday and he is going for his first injections tomorrow.
He's also mastered sleeping right through and is now doing a 10/11 hour stretch through the night.

MamaMaiasaura · 03/03/2008 22:44

insy and beanster - samuel didnt poo 5 days. When he did go on mothers day there was a lot of it but it wasnt hard at all. More like thick mayonaisse so he def wasnt constipated. Apparantly exl bf babaies dont really get constipated. Also he is 9 weeks + and pretty sure digestion system maturing. Also read in many books and dont lots of internet searches and bf babies can go up to 21 days without motion. As long as they arent distressed and in obvious pain then they are fine. Samuel was happy cooing etc without pooing. Didnt give him anything other than breastmilk. I am pretty sure ds1 went for days and days too as i had an up the back one with him.. and guess what. got an up the back one today from samuel when his big brother had friend over. lol.

AnastasiaBeaverhousen · 04/03/2008 09:28

Howdy all, lots of lovely poo chat going on. Feeling really pants the last couple of weeks. It's all down to eating crap and not drinking enough water = tired and snappy, so decided to eat better, it should lift my spirits. Hence me still in bed with baby asleep next to me and the dog snoring and the bottom of the bed. Need a giant foot to kick me into gear today.

claireybee · 04/03/2008 14:23

My diet is shite too Anastasia (love the new name btw!), I find myself just picking at crap all day long although I do eat a proper breakfast and dinner is usually ok. Definitely need to drink more water but am always the same in winter, I really feel the cold so when I go to get a drink always go for tea instead! Was very good a couple of years ago and always went for herbal tea or hot water but nowadays I'm back on the real stuff! Eat far too much chocolate too but hey ho, it goes in a seperate stomach so doesn't count!

On the topic of poo-ds had a few days of not pooing and very stinky farts and when he did go it was really thick and bright orange but as of yesterday is back to normal-2 or 3 a day.

Clara, unfortunately I never saw the best bits of Botswana, you know how it is when you live somewhere-I always thought oh I'll go there someday and then never did! While I was out there I was working for a media company but I went out there for dh, we met at uni here then he went back after he graduated and I followed 3 years later after I'd graduated and worked in France for a year. It's a beautiful country but the way the government etc is at the moment it makes it very difficult to go in as a foreigner. I was there on a temporary resisdence permit and work permit and even after we got married they wouldn't renew my work permit-I can live there now I married to a citizen but not work. It makes sense in a way-they are overcompensating for all the years of Brits and other whites having the top jobs but I can't see how they are going to develop if they keep it as tight as it currently is, especially as most young citizens are desperate to leave and work in SA or the States.

BT why the hell is that woman at a bf group if she doesn't want to see people bf or give/receive support?? Glad you spoke to the leader though and hopefully it will improve once she leaves.

Insy I was thinking of a coil but not yet-want to feel back to normal first! My friend has one (mirena) and says it's great.

Two of my AN group friends from when I had dd are expecting, both due in June and both having another girl. I was a bit jealous when I found out-not that I want to swap ds but I would quite like another girl! DH said NO! when I told him and reckons that if someone else then had a boy I'd want another boy and I'd never stop...he is probably right!

Beanster did you salvage the lamb?

Bouncingturtle · 04/03/2008 15:33

Hello!
Spoke to the Surestart staff member who supervises the bfing group and she is coming to see me to discuss it, already spoke to the other lady who was canvassing opinions!
So I might actually have some input to the new group - this one is coming to an end next week.

suey2 · 04/03/2008 15:42

hello everyone,
BT i am shocked about that awful woman. I hope they have told her not to come back- i am sure they know she is a troublemaker, it just depends if someone has the balls to tell her to f off.

Millie went through to 5.30am from her 10pm feed last night! I have dropped another daytime feed (replacing with some water) which makes her much hungrier and she takes a proper feed after bathtime now.

Beanster good luck with the doc. Millie now hasn't pooed for a couple of days, but i am trying to hold off using the suppositories unless she gets unhappy again. At least i know they work within 10 mins- so it's not like i have to wait long. Have the lactulose as a last resort.

Am really struggling with the guilt associated with going back to work- particularly as i am the first of my antenatal mates to do so. I know it is the best solution for now, but it doesn't make it any easier. I will probably love it when i am, and we are getting the nanny to cover one evening a week so that me and DH can have husband and wife time. Well, i'll do it for 6 months and if i am miserable i will reassess.

Bouncingturtle · 04/03/2008 17:11

To be fair to her, she only has Mondays available to her because of work, and so this is the only group she can attend - she is wanting to attend a different type of group, a more general mum and toddler group but there aren't any in our area on Mondays. But she still should haven't said what she said IMO.
It seems that the bfing group is going to stop until May when there is a National Breastfeeding week, and relaunch the group - hopefully on a different day...

Beanstermummy · 04/03/2008 19:18

Yeah - poo alert obviously it was while I was on the phone to the HV discussing said lack of poo - clever girl

Slight hiccup though is that she's lost weight - from 12lb2 to 11lb 14 in 3 weeks (from the 75% to the 25% !!)- HV isn't massively concerned as she reckons she is healthy and alert etc but will weigh next week to keep an eye on it (Also said she will get hold of a BF baby growth chart to see where we are- it may well be that she's had a bug of some sort (hence the lack of poo too) so fingers crossed. Only thing is that her feeding pattern has gone completely to pot - especially in the morning - but again I've heard of a 3 month growth spurt which may account for it?? Think I'm just going to have to let her have BM whenever for this next week. Really strange though as she goes from 11pm to 6 ish fine and also usually from 11am to 3 to 4 pm - HV said to try and aim for 3 hourly during the day and see if we can get back to some sort of routine - odd though how she's happy at night but not in the day?? Incy - as you say if Toby is fine and not seeming distressed I'd maybe mention it to the HV but not worry about doing anything - Apple juice diluted at 1 to 3 or a teaspoon of brown sugar dissolved in water is a natural way to maybe get things going - we've been on the apple juice for days now and that might be why she's pooed okay today?

As for the lamb - it was salvaged although the garlic and rosemary it was resting on were too charcoaled to be used for gravy - pity as when you add mint and capers, red wine vinegar and stock to the roasting pan - yummy

PS Fifi - bugger off with your heinous talk of 10/11 hours !!!

Wizzska · 04/03/2008 19:44

BT - think you're being too nice and fair about the lady at your breastfeeding group. I think she sounds like a stupid cow. Speaking as someone who had an absolute nightmare breastfeeding, I know what hell it can be and to go along to a breastfeeding group and say stuff like that is out of order. She shouldn't even be there.

DS sleeping now, hope it lasts. Can't cope with another night with his sniffly nose keeping us all awake. Up every 1 1/2 hours last night and for the last 3 weeks. Any tips apart from junior olbas oil?

PABLOP · 04/03/2008 19:48

Hi ladies, I hope you don't mind me jumping in at page 18 of thread. Had my DS Isaac in Dec 07 and I have been lurking on this thread for the last week!

Bouncingturtle · 04/03/2008 20:30

Hello and welcome!
Can be quiet in the evenings!

kelbel · 04/03/2008 20:47

hi Pablop - telly is rubbish tonight so i'm lurking on here as dh watches footie

Just been catching up as not been on for a while - happy to say lots of sloppy poo going on here- frequently.

Wizzska - Flynn's had a snuffly nose for weeks now - but finally cleared this week. We used saline drops after his bath and when he woke during the night and seemed to help him setlle again.

We've put Flynn upstairs in our room in moses basket for the first time tonight - with monitor on. He's still ex bf, but sleep from 7 - 3, then back off till 7. We've had him downstairs with us in basket, then taking him up with us about 11, but he seems to stir at this time and started waking, needing a feed to get him back off - hence giving him final feed upstairs. Keeping me fit coz i'm checking him all the time! Although he sleeps great - he can't himself off to sleep, so only goes off whn feeding - is this still quite normal - he's only 11 weeks, just thinking I'm should i be doing something, will it turn into a 'habit'

PABLOP · 04/03/2008 20:55

Hi Bouncingturtle & kelbel, thanks for that!
yes tv is rubbish, missed eastenders and not really a holby city fan but I am a Shameless fan and will be watching it at 10.

Fascinated by the sloppy poo, I am just waiting for an explosion as he has not had one since yesterday morning.

Wizzska · 04/03/2008 20:57

Kelbel - thanks for the tip about the saline drops. I asked the doc about them and he said they weren't worth it, but I'm more inclined to listen to other mothers with experience than docs. Thanks goodness for Mumsnet.

By the way, my DS has often got off to sleep from feeding. I don't think its a problem at this early age. I had a bit of a worry with it when his cold was at its worst and I nursed him a bit too often. He only had short feeds and so got green poo for a couple of days. I was staying at my Mum's house and she kept telling me nurse him just for comfort and in fairness it did get him to sleep but it wasn't the best thing to do. In general though it is fine. These days DS is usually managing to get to sleep in his cot rather than on me or DH, but likes me to hold his hand or touch his cheek to relax him.

Wizzska · 04/03/2008 20:58

Hi Pablop by the way.

PABLOP · 04/03/2008 21:12

Hi Wizzka!

kelbel · 04/03/2008 21:18

well its v regular n sloppy here,

i know some say saline are a waste of time, but no doubt had an effect for us, apart from anything else, the wet liquid going up must soften all the crap thats bunged up there

skidaddle · 04/03/2008 22:00

hi all

hi pablop and welcome

clairey - I was going to ask about where you were living as well (clara and I are obviously equally nosey). I have almost been to Botswana but chickened out at the last minute because I didn't really fancy the boy who invited me ( I was in S. Africa at the time) - oh those days of being young free and single do you think you and DH will end up there are stay here?

clara - glad you had a nice holiday - sounds lovely apart from the deep fried parsnips

we did nothing for mother's day either - dh doesn;t believe in it and I'm not bothered at all. In fact I looked after dd and ds all day so dh could go for a long cycle with his mate, that makes me sound quite saintly - will have to milk that one a bit when I get the chance...

BT - that woman sounds horrendous and good luck with helping to set up the new group

suey - when are you going back to work? In some way it was great going back for me after dd (although she was 7 months) because I got to do adult stuff and use my brain but really appreciated the time I spent with her and enjoyed it all the more. Hope it is the same for you

insy - poor you getting your period already - must be a sign to start trying to conceive no.3?! Never tried the coil but am thinking of trying it as well if I ever get round to needing a form of contraception . actually tomorrow is DH's birthday so I definitely have to deliver, deep breath, grit teeth, I can do it!!

Wizzska · 05/03/2008 10:01

Morning all. DS only woke 12.00 and 3.30 last night - a marked improvement. He is now happily pooing on my lap - 4th one today. Some great straining noises happening .

Amani · 05/03/2008 11:16

morning all
not been on for a few days and it seems like I've missed lots. Thanks to everyone who gave me their support about losing my cool with DD1. Really did beat myself up over it on Friday, but ok now.

Clara - at you having a holiday.

DH was talking about going to the Far East when DD1 is 2 yrs and 10 months and DD2 will be 10 mths. Much as I would love to go 14 hrs on a flight with my two princess will drive me mad!

Beanstermummy · 05/03/2008 11:18

hi Wizzka - sounds fun !! Freya seemed ok yesterday and slept fine from 7pm , fed at 11pm then through to 5am - at which point she decided she was now awake and didn't go back to sleep until 7 - and that was after feeding at 5, 6 and 6:45.......I'm knackered - just thinking it's her catching up on going longer in the nights but not sure.

Pablob - welcome to our strange but comforting world And your little one and my Freya share the 7th as a birthday - fab day to arrive I say Don't get stressed if no-one responds by the way - having gone from on line all the time when PG these days I think most of only get the odd spare minute or so to say hello. - And yes - I missed Easties as well - can't believe my DH reckons DD1 watching Dora takes priority over Eastenders but there you are - Divorce may be on the cards..

DD2 currently asleep in swinging chair but really need to wake her up for feed - to try and get some semblance of a routine back - but enjoying the peace too much - oh I am such a bad mother..........

cazzybabs · 05/03/2008 11:20

Hello - just quick social hello before I dash to get dd2 from nursery. I go down to SMP thiws month - ahhhh. I have paid all things like swimming lessons for next term and am now feeling poor!
