Needed a new thread...

DD2 is much better today, she ate some fruity toast for her tea last night and loved it. And it didn't reappear an hour later either!
Have been to a mnmeet in Harrogate today, DD2 is starting to enjoy play dates now, especially this one as there was a fantastic baby section for her to play in!

OP posts:

Atkins is the easiest way to describe a primarily protein only diet...I suppose it isn't really atkins as I'm not doing the high fat thing with it but without telling everybody the whole story it is easier to just say oh I'm doing Atkins at the moment and most people just accept it as normal...I am still a little bit bigger than I was pre-preg.

TracyK · 09/12/2004 17:53

Mrs D - what nappies have you gone for? I've stopped my laundry service and am using sainsburys eco friendly dispos - not too impressed with them so far. Will investigate reusables again in the new year.
ds has bad cough and I feel a bit achey today - hope not the cold on its way.
Does bf keep you and baby healthier do we think? I'm planning on bf till the end of winter in the hope ds will shake off bugs etc more quickly.
My friend and dh lost loads of weight by doing a sort of atkins. Eat healthily during the day - but no carbs after 6pm/ So they could still have baked potato or sandwiches for lunch.

MrsDoobaubles · 09/12/2004 17:58

Don't get me started TracyK ! Smile I am assuming you must have been using cotton bottoms if you had a laundry. Tried them, resulted in a big No No in my book I am afraid.
I use totsbots and bumbles and a couple of cool cutie patootie nappies.

I had to pick up dd from nursery today, she was puking her little guts up [sad

TracyK · 09/12/2004 18:33

laundry was ok - but the nappies were just getting thicker and thicker - I could hardly get ds troos up over his bum. Plus couldn't be arsed prefolding them all the time. Am going to try motherease all in ones.
Am going to have some paracetemol and have an early night.
ds looks like rudolph as dh knocked him over in rough and tumble games and he hit his nose on the floor.

OhTickleTownofBethlehem · 09/12/2004 19:42

re atkins - my dh has been eating almonds instead of other snacks. and he's looking rather fine on it actually WinkGrin

Chuffingoodtime · 10/12/2004 09:30

oh no Mrs D more sickness - it is awful isn't it.

One week of work left before our holiday we are hoping no more bugs hit us.

Have a fab weekend everybody.

MrsDoobaubles · 10/12/2004 11:19

TracyK - I know Fennel is a great fan of Motherease but do try totsbots first. The rainbow bots tend not to be as thick as the unbleached, they are so cute too.

We both saw the doctor this morning who confirmed what I already knew really - a nasty virus. My problem is, it's hit me twice and the second bout is always worse than the first. As for dd, chest is clear, nappies are fine, she is hungry so just keep feeding!! She is happy though. I wonder if nursery might be overfeeding her because she eats well?

I need to take more care of myself. So maybe I should have a nap with dd? Smile

Have a good weekend everyone. I am still hoping to be well enough for the SW London meetup this weekend.

Now we are sponsored by the Discovery channel. Makes me wonder whos lurking?

yulettsdaughter · 10/12/2004 22:29

Sorry to hear about the virus MrsD - do rest up as much as you can, hope you feel better soon. And 2 children with chicken pox! Bad luck about your trip Tickle. DD has a cold (again), but is coping quite well with it - in the day anyway. Yorkiegirl, is your dd any better now? Did you go back to the doc's?
DD is very nearly crawling. She can move about by switching between being on her front and sitting. She's also got nappy rash again - I think this time it may be down to the wipes I was supplying the childminder with (even though they were supposedly "mild and gentle" and fragrance-free). So we're back to cotton wool and water (which I was using at home anyway).
DS was a shepherd in his school production this week Smile

Yorkiegirl · 10/12/2004 22:38

went back to the docs, but her chest is clear. Me, well that's another story! On round two of steroid tablets and antibiotics, hopefully they'll work this time as I'm struggling to sleep because of my asthma.
DD2 is so rosy cheeked I'm convinced she's teething. Still can't see any sign of a tooth, but you never know!
Hope everyone who's poorly feels better soon.

TheFennelandtheIvy · 12/12/2004 17:13

mrs D I may be loyal to my nearly 5 year old Motherease nappies but if I was starting now would be very interested in all these new-fangled multi-coloured fleecy nappies Grin.

dd3 has a new tooth today (that's 3 now) and another nearly through. she is pitiful and tear-stained.
she's been nearly crawling for weeks now but got no closer.

Tickle if your dh can snack on almonds does that mean snacking on Marzipan is also recommended on Atkins? yumm...

Chuffingoodtime · 13/12/2004 09:50

How did the meet go MrsD? Did you make it?
Think we may be getting sick again in our house, we are all feeling a little off - praying that it will pass as I don't really fancy flying for 26hours sick or with dd unwell.

dd got into one of the wrapped presents on Sunday and was fascinated by it, turning it around and hitting it and trying to rip the paper with her teeth and fingers.

TracyK · 13/12/2004 19:18

I don't want to jinx anything - but I think we are all feeling well in this house. It does feel good not to feel ill anymore iykwim.
although I don't know why I feel so fine - ds woke at 3.20am for some milk and it took me ages to get back to sleep even tho it was dh that gave him his bottle. Then dh alarm goes off at 6.30am when I've gotten back into a nice deep sleep!
But ds had his first nice long sleep at nursery (they put him in a cot - at last!) and he ate ALL his lunch.
Then he fell asleep cuddled up to me on the couch watching Scooby Doo before tea and has had his bath and in bed asleep before 7!
I don't know whether it's hormones or not - but I am very teary tonight and was shedding a little tear of joy while snuggling ds after his bath! Silly moo that I am!

OhTickleTownofBethlehem · 13/12/2004 19:31

Tracy IKWYM about shedding a little tear... they are just so cuddle-able. Although I don't think I felt that way with dd1 - I think the whole life change at that point was all too big for me to really enjoy her. making up for it now though :)

chuffed, hope you keep those bugs at bay!

Fennel I'm sure we can all agree that marzipan is perfectly ok for medicinal purposes Grin

Taking dd2 off on the ferry in the morning to the 'big city' to do a little Christmas shopping (and dhs birthday is Christmas eve Shock). We need some stuff from Ikea so may have to brave that too...

dd2 is just starting to move a few cm away from where I left her, from sitting to lying and sometimes back up again somehow! She seemed to miss out the entire rolling over stage. But I think she may end up a bum shuffler, as she spends so little time on her front.

Last 2 evenings dh has greeted me with mulled wine. Fantastic! Except I'm then ready for bed by 9pm {{cottons on to what he has been up to...}}

dollsandbears · 13/12/2004 19:32

hello to all
luv and hugga puggas 2 all ill babes and mums and anyone else . we r touch wood bug free @ the mo , which means we will all get something in time 4 xmas day ( we r doing dinner 4 @ least 8 )
rapidly running out of steam for xmas and life in general !!
surviving on choclate and wine ( no diets in this hse ) too knacked does not help that ds is skinning bloke @ 9-9.5 st its just not fair !

OhTickleTownofBethlehem · 13/12/2004 22:14

d&b hope you meant dh/dp there not ds - too much wine? Or too much chocolate for ds??

OhTickleTownofBethlehem · 13/12/2004 22:16

ps chickened out of big city and Ikea tomorrow - will stick to purely provincial presents and ignore the fact we have no curtains.

Maybe I could just drape some ivy...

dot1 · 14/12/2004 09:08

Hello!

Any ideas for finger/solid foods? Ds is addicted to bread crusts and is slowly starting to reject all mush - cries when we try to feed it him - I think he's completely bored of it, but we're not sure what to feed him now! He's not quite ready for 'everything' but fed up of mush...! So far he can chomp bread crusts, toast, bagel, breadsticks (basically nothing v. nutritious...) and scrambled egg! How do you move on to the next stage (whatever that is) - we've completely forgotten what we did with ds1... Might try some cut up pasta soon??? He still hasn't got any teeth, so nothing that requires too much chewing!

Still no sign of crawling - he's happy to sit and reach out for things. Having said that, he can seem to shift around the room very slowly on his bottom, but so slowly no-one notices it (including him)..!! I don't mind at all as we're just about to put the Christmas decorations up, which means they'll be safe for this year!

Chuffingoodtime · 14/12/2004 09:38

dot good to see you on it's been a little while. dd has been the same with finger food, not enjoying mush but not quite ready for proper finger food which we tried in earnest in the weekend. I had a look for a couple of old posts and the annabel karmel website is quite helpful.
Partly cooked carrot is apparently good although dd won't have a bit of it. She does attempt really ripe pear slices and enjoys canned peach slices although we have to help with those as they are slippery. She loves pits bread and houmus? especially the houmus as most of the pita gets left. Haven't tried yet but you can give partially cooked trees of broccoli and cauliflower, beans as well. dd has enjoyed dried apricots and prunes on seperate occasions although not too much is consumed they are enjoyed. That's enough garbling from me.
Colds have kicked in although dd still in great mood.

dot1 · 14/12/2004 11:58

I know - they're keeping me too busy at work..! Good idea - will try pear/peach slices I think. Broccoli aswell maybe (although I HATE it!!).

TheFennelandtheIvy · 14/12/2004 12:39

If he chomps on toast can you just add things to toast or sandwiches? in sandwiches dd3 likes baked beans, cheese, marmite, peanut butter (I must be the only mother on mumsnet who feeds her children peanut butter at such a tender age). you could try eggy bread. pasta twirls as finger food, banana in chunks (messy!), chunks of salmon or cod, chunks of mashed potato (again, messy!). dd3 also currently likes cereal like shreddies as finger food, cooked carrot, raw cucumber or tomato, corn on cob sliced into small rings, slices of cheese.

Chuffingoodtime · 14/12/2004 14:07

your dd is eating well then Fennel. I think we are encouraging a fussy eater
If she won't eat anything else, acts like she isn't hungry and we are desperate to get some food in her if we give her a rusk you'd never think she wasn't hungry, not a crumb gets left.

yulettsdaughter · 14/12/2004 15:09

Re adding things to toast - my dd likes toast with mashed banana on top.
DD is now officially crawling, as of this weekend - her granny was visiting and called me in to the room to watch her crawl to a tower of stacking cups - she crawled to me instead! Aaaaah

MrsDoobaubles · 14/12/2004 15:13

I can imagine dd crawling - lots of wriggling though
She doesn't like being on her front.

TheFennelandtheIvy · 14/12/2004 15:25

chuffingoodtime - dd3 does indeed have an "unrefined palate" - the only thing she consistently refuses is my lentil recipes (I think the texture is too rough). but I am sure she will get fussier as a toddler, her sisters did.

am off work today with dd1 who's mildly sick with a cough. but luckily she's well enough to have come xmas shopping with me, all very pleasant really.

MrsDoobaubles · 14/12/2004 15:28

I meant I CAN'T imagine dd crawling!

However she eats anything.
