@AdventuresAwait ive tried putting her at the side of me on the sofa in a babynest thing, thinking im near her but shes not on me, but nope, doesnt work. She got herself so worked up yesterday she took ages to go to sleep bless her. Does she fall asleep after the feed on a night before shes in the cot? Doe she sleep through? Some nights Lilly is out for 8 hours and others she wakes every few, I cant work out what makes the difference.

AdventuresAwait · 29/03/2022 10:20

@Scotti84, yes she falls asleep as she feeds before bed then wakes as I put her in her cot. I hold her hand and she falls back to sleep. Just not in the day and the crying it out method isn't for us. Her feeds don't coincide with her sleep so can't do the same as for the evening so really not sure how to transition her naps.
So glad you mentioned sleep... some nights she sleeps 6 hours and others she wakes every 1.5 to 2 hours! I don't know why either...

CherLW · 29/03/2022 21:04

@Scotti84 @AdventuresAwait I’m so glad I looked at the thread today and read about both your little ones sleep.. I’m starting to think I’m king crazy as I hear of babies sleeping all night/in their crib or cot and in their own rooms for night and day naps.

Jesse has about 3 naps a day - he will happily sleep in the car and pram. He mainly only sleeps on me or in a bouncy/vibrating chair in the day time.
Night times I feed him to sleep and lay him down (we’re co sleeping) in the bed and he drifts off. He stirs when I move him from boob to bed but I can feed him back off or hold his hand/arm. He mainly sleeps in 4 hour chunks.. wakes for food or sometimes just comfort and goes back off.

I would love to be in a routine for day naps but he isn’t the best at self settling and I don’t want to go down the cry it out route.

Anyone ever used a sleep consultant?

Love to you all xx

Hi @CherLW! Lovely to hear from you.
Same here. 3 naps either in the pram or on me (or in the car when my husband is home). Not sure how to transition. I've not heard of a sleep consultant? Xx

CherLW · 30/03/2022 22:17

@AdventuresAwait how are you doing? Hope you’re well 😊

I’m not sure either.. it doesn’t really bother me at the moment but I know I’ll have to change things for the ease of other people when I go back to work and things.

My friends sister is a sleep consultant.. I don’t really know much about them but they help and advise you on different ways to get your baby sleeping etc. I’ve looked and it’s quite expensive! Xx

@CherLW, I've missed your posts! How's Jesse?

We're doing good thanks. Little one is enjoying food more and more which is lovely to see so we're trying more things. She loves to play and is so interested in everything, she especially loves songs and swimming. She seems to be a bit late still in meeting the physical milestones but she gets there so I'm told that's all fine, it's just in her own time. And she doesn't babble yet but I'm sure she will soon.

The main issue is that she suddenly developed eczema. So we're trying to find the trigger to avoid and treatments to help. The doctor said it's literally a case of trying different creams until we find the right one for her. And friends have been really helpful with suggestions such as having oats in the bath. Just feel sorry for her when it really flares up. Think we've now found a good cream for her so fingers crossed that really helps! (And that she grows out of it as apparently many children do). Would help if we could work out the trigger(s) too.

I'm the same with naps. It's ok at the moment but if she had naps - or at least one - in the cot, I could do some housework etc rather than in the evening when I'm tired! When do you go back to work? What timescale are you looking at for the transition? I don't know when I'll be looking a new job yet (I moved before she was born so left my job) but thinking I should try soon in case it gets more difficult down the line? It would just be great to have the option of naps in the pushchair, on me, in the car or the cot! A few times I've put her in the cot and sat with her to try and slowly introduce it at nap time but she gets upset after a while so i pick her up. Just thought it would start to bring some familiarity in the day time. I wondered about putting her in after she falls asleep on me but then worry it will really disturb her sleep if she wakes! But maybe I'll be surprised and she'll be fine. Surely I'll get there eventually? I also enjoy the times she sleeps on me. It's so precious and I'm conscious it won't be for much longer. Hard to know when I need to do this change.

She'll be 7 months on Sunday and I can't believe it! Must be 7 months for you already? Xx

AdventuresAwait · 31/03/2022 08:00

Hi everyone, just a quick question. I've asked on here before and had some great recommendations.. what toys are your little ones really interested in at the moment? Looking to get some new ones and would love some ideas Xx

Scotti84 · 31/03/2022 09:05

@CherLW a friend of mine was considering a sleep consultant but her son is 2 and still wakes through the night every 2 hrs, ill ask her if shes tried it yet.

@AdventuresAwait im also looking for toy recommendations. We've got loads but I feel like Lilly is bored of them sometimes, she likes discovering things and things that move etc but theres not many toys like that that arent too advanced for her. I did see an idea of sticking pipe cleaners in a plastic sieve for her to pull out, good for motor skills and fun for her so im going to try that.

Re naps, we have a rough schedule but still sleeping on me, im same as you, I love the snuggles... but the cleaning etc in the evenings is not ideal, i feel like I dont stop atm.

CherLW · 31/03/2022 16:15

@AdventuresAwait And I’ve missed yours! Can you believe this time last year we were all pregnant and now they are 7 months or their abouts! Jesse was 7 months on the 26th, I can not believe how quick time is going!!

I go back to work mid September so that’s not too bad.. I’m happy to co sleep with him but I also do a couple of night shifts which would mean his dad or my mum Co sleeping with him.. I worry he wouldn’t want too. I think my main thing I need to sort is the feeding to sleep as that has to change for anyone else to put him to bed. I have no idea where to start!

Oh nooo poor little one with her Ezcema 😞 I had it bad as a child and grew out of it and now I only get it when the weather suddenly changes which is weird. Someone said to put oats into tights and them them soak in the bath water to me when Jesse had some dry skin. Is there anything the doctor can prescribe?

I’m going to try and not worry about the nap situation as he will sleep on the pram and car if all else fails. I get what you mean about cleaning at night.. not what any of us want to be doing ay 😂 xxx

Oh the toy front - I bought Jesse a piano from baby Einstein which is cute but definitely looking for more ideas!

OP posts:
AdventuresAwait · 31/03/2022 22:57

@CherLW, I know, it's crazy how quickly time is passing and how they're developing so much!

Re. Her eczema, yes we put oats in tights in the bath. Works well. The doctor has prescribed two creams but one seemed to make it worse. He said to try any & I think we've found a good one now. Her skin was great today! I also think hers is related to the weather.

Ooh a piano is a great idea... we've got drums, stacking cups, car ramps, ball drop & roll, baby Einstein light bar etc. Just wondering about something new to add.

Great idea about the pipe cleaners @Scotti84! I've seen a Taff Toy tissue box I've thought about so I guess that's similar... I might have a go at that! Let us know how it goes?

I feel the same about not stopping at the moment 😴

Scotti84 · 03/04/2022 19:32

@AdventuresAwait dont do the pipe cleaners, the idea itself worked well but fluff everywhere and obviously ended up in a mouthful of fluff too.

I bought like a board with different things on it to move, press, rotate etc, that can go on her bed side but also good for tummy time, shes quite interested in that. We've got the baby einstein piano too, they have quite nice stuff. And weve got a fisher price telephone but only because i had it when i was a kid and i couldn't help it when i realised they still make them. She'll get use out of that in another few months 😅

AdventuresAwait · 04/04/2022 14:14

Thanks for letting me know @Scotti84!

I've just ordered the Taf Toys Tissue Wonder Box (pictured). Similar activity as they pull the material out, so I think she'll enjoy it. I'll let you know!

@AdventuresAwait that looks good, let me know what she makes of it please. I got this little steering wheel thing, attached a pic, this is brill, it helps her stay sitting longer and the lights and songs keep her really interested.

Also, the remote control, daddy's playstation controller and my charging cable are all very interesting 🙈 (i dont actually let her play with those but she makes dive for them every time)

Scotti84 · 05/04/2022 09:02

Pic would help....

Great thanks @Scotti84! And yes I'll let you know x

AdventuresAwait · 25/06/2022 11:22

Hello all... wanted to catch up so just wondered if anyone is still following this thread?? Xx

PineappleSun · 25/06/2022 16:27

I am! 9 months, 8 teeth, crawling and so so much hair. How are you getting on?

AdventuresAwait · 25/06/2022 19:42

Hi @PineappleSun ! 1 more week until 10 months with 7 teeth, an allergy to cows milk and a love of exploring.. food, toys, books and everything! But no interest in moving yet... quite happy sitting and playing. Or being on her feet. So not sure what to do about the movement. She's pretty chilled and has a lovely personality. Love her smile! Just can't believe how quickly she's growing up.

PineappleSun · 25/06/2022 20:49

Argh I know, back in the newborn trenches when everyone said it goes so fast it was hard to believe, but it does!
Don't do anything about the movement, she'll do it on her own time, they're all beautiful individuals.
Are you going/have you gone back to work? That's the next thing for me, a bit nervous/guilty about it.

AdventuresAwait · 25/06/2022 22:37

Yes @PineappleSun , everyone said it to me too and I didn't realise how true it is!
Thanks for the reassurance re. movement. I know you're right, I just worry when others are crawling or bum shuffling etc. I have her 10 month check with the HV soon and wasn't sure what they'd say. But many have told me their children didn't crawl etc at this point so not worrying too much.
Regarding work, I moved and finished my contract with my job just before she was born. So I'm taking a bit of time off. Probably need to look for a new job next spring. When do you go back? What's your plan?

Scotti84 · 26/06/2022 18:53

Im still here. 10 months next week too, 5 teeth atm but more on the way I think. Shes pulling herself up a lot, can crawl when she wants but would rather try and stand 🙈

Weve had a bit of babbling but not really any full words yet. We're currently in the UK visiting my family, she travelled really well and is loving being spoilt by everyone!

Nice to hear that things are well with your two x

AdventuresAwait · 26/06/2022 21:07

Hi @Scotti84 , glad she's doing well. We went on holiday recently and our little one travelled well too. It is lovely isn't it. Enjoy your visit!

Noodles4Me · 26/06/2022 23:05

I am here too.
waves

He’s 10 months, only two teeth out but all others are just there under gums ready to descend. He shuffles and rolls, likes to stand if he can and adores eating!

Started his nursery settling in days and consequently … we all have the shits!!

I’m back at work but on annual leave. Thank goodness - need the money now!

PineappleSun · 27/06/2022 19:22

Same as Noodles, I'm technically back but on annual leave. I'm thinking of dropping a day and 2 hours so I'm working four shorter days. I was totally undecided but about it but heard the old 'you won't look back and wish you'd worked more' chestnut today so I think I'm set on that plan. Now just have to get work to approve!
