Thanks, so grateful for all the advice x

AdventuresAwait · 23/02/2022 22:07

Thanks for the new thread @CherLW!

In response to your last post, I'm glad you're well. Amazing to think Jesse is 6 months this week! Hettie is 6 months next Wednesday too. I cannot believe it!

We're good thanks. Hettie has her first tooth and I think another is coming. She's such a delight. She is a pretty chilled baby and I think some of the physical milestones are still developing but she's doing well & we're getting ready for weaning very soon xx

Scotti84 · 24/02/2022 08:14

Thanks for making the new thread @CherLW x

CherLW · 24/02/2022 08:40

No worries ladies 😊 good to have somewhere to turn to and chat 😊

@AdventuresAwait so glad to hear Hettie is doing well! How was she with her teeth? Jesse has all the signs they are on the way but no teeth yet. Jesse is very chilled too, he’s attempting to role and he is pretty sturdy sat up but not for long. He’s good in his high chair tho and he hold his head up really well 😊 I’m just taking it as it comes tho with the developments as I know he will get there with it all eventually 😊

I have given Jesse Broccoli, Avocado, Carrot in the last week.. he also had some cauliflower but that was a complete no no 😂.. I will try again tho. I haven’t officially started but just here and there 😊 I have been giving him his water cup for a couple of weeks just to hold and things and he does put it to his mouth so I’ll put some water in soon and see how that goes. Have you got a plan or anything? Xx

Thank you @CherLW so exciting some babies have started weaning! I've got our old highchair out and cleaned it all down, stocked up on everything we need and got the Wean in 15 book as it has been recommended by a few friends. About 3 weeks to go for us. We weaned our eldest at 4 months based on advice for reflux but this time we're holding off until 26 weeks as she still just seems so small. I'm worried about choking as she just jams her hands in her mouth and ends up vomiting a few times a day at the moment.

Scotti84 · 24/02/2022 19:32

@CherLW we've had carrot, parsnip and sweet potato so far, going to start mixing it up this week, i got a book with the blender that has a few recipes in, ones Avocado and banana so going to try that. Thats a good idea with the water cup. When do they advise water? Here its six months. Its all changing so fast, my little baby is starting to really become her own person!

Is anyone in the North of England and can recommend good days out with baby? She'll be 9 months when we come over and im not sure what to do for days out.

AdventuresAwait · 24/02/2022 23:23

@CherLW, her tooth didn't seem to cause her any problems at all. We noticed she was chewing a lot on things, checked her gums and saw that one of her bottom teeth was through!

Not got much of a plan apart from that I'm doing BLW. I'll make a food plan tomorrow as thinking of starting on Saturday. Probably broccoli first and then maybe sweet potato, cauliflower and parsnip.
I've got a Doidy Cup ready to offer water at meal times but haven't tried it yet xx

CherLW · 25/02/2022 08:12

@Scotti84 I’ve been told a mix of banana and avocado is a good one! Over here they advise to give water when they start eating. 😊 I haven’t yet tried it tho.. I can’t even imagine his little face when he has plain water 😂

@AdventuresAwait BLW is what we’re doing too. It’s fun watching Jesse hold the food and then just eat it. The most successful holds were carrot and broccoli but the avocado was very slippery.. I have since read that you had put a few breadcrumbs on one end tho to make it easier to grip. I also bought a crinkle cutter thing so I can crinkle cut the veg so it’s easier to hold.

That’s so good she didn’t seem phased by her tooth coming through. That would be ideal if it happened with Jesse too.. I just want the first one done so I know what to expect.

You’ll have to let us know about the doidy cup, they look good. I got a free flowing cup also so hope it works. I read on one thing that a free flowing cup is best but then read on another thing that babies learn to suck from a straw vest between 6-8 months so to use that… but then straws aren’t supposed to be good for their teeth!! 🤦🏻‍♀️

@CherLW thanks for the thread!

Doidy cup is working quite well here, blw is under way! Very messy 🙈

AdventuresAwait · 25/02/2022 17:26

@CherLW, great idea about the crinkle cutter! I've just ordered one 😊 thanks for sharing.

I'll let you know about the Doidy Cup when we've tried it. I've also got a munchkin 360 cup. We're going straight from breastfeeding and it says it's uses the same mouth action. BLW does too so should bypass bottles and sippy cups.

Not sure when to start weaning! Doing a baby first aid course tomorrow. Then I guess we're good to go as she's 6 months on Wed and seems to meet the criteria for being developmentally ready. Will see how she is on the first few tries and can always wait if needs be. Exciting but it also feels like another big milestone in her growing up. Slow down time, please! 🤣 xxx

CherLW · 26/02/2022 08:54

@Bubbles1st our bibs turned up yesterday.. I went for full arms just to keep him covered but need something for the floor.. do you put anything down u get the high chair?

Hope you’re both doing well 😊 x

@AdventuresAwait That’s good you ordered one, I’ve heard it works quite well with some veg and also it looks things like carrots etc not appealing 😂

I got the munchkin 360 also… I’m hoping he likes it! We’re going to start weaning next week.. I’ve got all the things I need now so just going to go for it. Jesse is 6 months today and I would say developmentally he’s there.. it’s just me being a wimp about starting 🤦🏻‍♀️ Xx

@CherLW, yay! Happy 6 months Jesse!

I've got a mat for under the highchair (www.argos.co.uk/product/tuc139534963?clickSR=slp:term:splash%20mat:1:324:2)
and a bib that goes around the middle part of the high chair seat, between her legs, to catch food. Think we're starting on Friday!

Scotti84 · 26/02/2022 10:07

We've got one of them bibadoo bibs that's like a backwards jacket, covers the table and everything, love it! I'd been giving Lilly just an ice cube size portion of puree and then feeding her after but yesterday the dr said she can cut out midday milk and we can start her on evening puree too, after all the stress with breastfeeding at the start, I'm not ready to give it up. I know it's not completely, but shes really becoming her own person now, it's awesome to see but my little baby is no more! 😭

CherLW · 26/02/2022 10:19

@AdventuresAwait thank you 💙 can’t believe how quick the time is flying by!!

I’m going to order that mat you’ve got, looks good and will definitely help 😂. X

@Scotti84 I saw those and I have something very similar for Jesse, just covers all of him and clips to table.
I won’t be stopping breastfeeding until he’s about 1 I would say ❤️ X

AdventuresAwait · 26/02/2022 10:35

@CherLW @Scotti84, I'm planning to continue breastfeeding until she's 1 too, and possibly beyond. Will see what happens as I know it will gradually reduce when she's eating solids but that's the plan!

Scotti84 · 26/02/2022 18:29

I hope to keep going until Lillys 1 too, do we need to pump when they start having full puree/solids for a meal so miss a feed? So our milk supply stays the same or should it reduce as we reduce the feeds? Might be a obvious question but I'm not sure how it works

CherLW · 26/02/2022 19:02

@Scotti84 I’m not really sure how it works.. I have a friend who just breastfed Morning and night time as she said her milk supply just kind of changed to suit those needs.
I guess when they are on 3 meals a day the milk supply will need to reduce a bit

OP posts:
AdventuresAwait · 26/02/2022 22:22

@CherLW, @Scotti84, what I've read suggests that we can continue with breastfeeding on demand at this stage. I think it then just gradually decreases as they eat more. I've been reading some books about it and one mentions that it is likely to then go to morning and evening. In their book about BLW, Gill Rapley and Tracey Murkett say to keep feeding on demand as the solid food adds to the milk feeds rather than replaces them & that baby will gradually reduce feeds in their own time xx

Scotti84 · 28/02/2022 10:49

@AdventuresAwait thank you, I'm happy to drop it off a bit if she doesnt need it but until she drinks water properly I think she will still need milk as fluids. The Avocado Banana mix was not well recieved 🤦‍♀️ but banana on its own she loves!

We also have our first tooth poking through, poor lass, but shes coping well. Just likes to chew on my hand a lot more!

MrsTD88 · 01/03/2022 09:38

My baby girl and her sister have tested positive for Covid 😭 baby girl is so grizzly and had a really unsettled night! Any advice? She's feeding well and normal amount of wet and dirty nappies so far

Scotti84 · 01/03/2022 11:34

@MrsTD88 oh no, sorry to hear that! I've had no experience so far, touch wood, but hope it's not too bad for the little ones x

AdventuresAwait · 01/03/2022 12:15

@MrsTD88 oh bless them. We all had it and we think baby did too (didn't test her as we were isolating anyway and the doctor said we could assume she had it as we both had it). She had a cough but her feeding wasn't affected. We only felt rough for a couple of days but had to rest a lot as we were so tired. No advice really, sorry but I hope they feel better very soon xx

CherLW · 03/03/2022 11:29

@MrsTD88 sorry to hear your little one had covid 🙁 hopefully she is starting to feel better x

So started the weaning of one single veg/fruit a day and I think it’s the most stressful and overwhelming thing that’s happened since having him 🙈. I don’t even know why.. just sooo much to think about and he isn’t really liking much at all!

OP posts:
MrsTD88 · 03/03/2022 11:48

Thank you all. My husband and I are both still negative so hoping we've managed to avoid it. The girls are okay mostly cold like symptoms. Thankfully they're both eating plenty. Their isolation should hopefully be up at the weekend.

@AdventuresAwait hope you're all back to good health now X

@CherLW it's such a big change for babies in the beginning. My eldest wasn't keen on a lot in the beginning but we just kept offering and she eventually took to it. She's a great eater now.

AdventuresAwait · 03/03/2022 12:05

Yes @CherLW! It's really overwhelming isn't it? A couple of times we've timed it wrong and she's been too tired. But other times she likes it. She likes broccoli and green beans so far! I'm struggling to know what to give. Some of the foods make me worry about choking even though I know it's unlikely xx
