OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
foxythesnowman · 13/01/2008 14:47

holly as if by magic, there's this Home Ed thread for Early Years

here

Pumpkinhead · 13/01/2008 14:54

Hello June 07 mummies. I've been following this thread from way back when it was the antenatal thread and have been meaning to join for a VERY long time! I didn't expect this baby lark to be quite so hectic! Anyway, just saying hi to you all and would I be able to join in for a chat now and then? PS. I'm not a hairy trucker

foxythesnowman · 13/01/2008 15:03

Oooh, hello Pumpkin! You are very, very welcome.

Hectic? Nah

Hows life Pumpkin? Is this your first DC?

Many have joined and disappeared, (Pingu? Teabag?) Its all quiet here. Bit too quiet ....

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 13/01/2008 15:08

Hello pumpkinhead! Well, if you've been lurking you'll know all about us, so you will have to tell us about yourself! Did you just wait for a lull in the conversation to dive in? There aren't usually very many! I think we are one of the more active threads. The upside is that there is usually someone around to have a chat with

Norty, you surprise me, I guess I knew you were on ADs but you seem so sorted and sure of yourself (on here and in RL) that I can't imagine you with anxiety. It's funny isn't it? I wonder how we all live up to each other's perceptions on here. It's like you can be a different person online. Or maybe it's not, maybe we can be more ourselves on here than in rl, just not hampered by social conventions, worries about how we look, and given time to compose what we want to say rather than diving in without thinking!

Pumpkinhead · 13/01/2008 15:11

Hello Foxy! It's not actually my first child - I had a baby in 2006 but she was very premature and only lived for a week. . But this is the first baby that I've actually had at home iykwim. Technically I've been with this thread since the beginning - I've just been very very quiet! Things are good today - baby in bed and shopping done. But have a big craving for some chocolate, and theres none in the house.....

Pumpkinhead · 13/01/2008 15:16

Hi Bumper - what do you want to know?! I wasn't waiting for a lull in the conversation - I knew that would be unlikely. I was just waiting for a lull in the baby! He's been asleep for over an hour now which is unheard of. Not sure how that happened!

milkyJammy · 13/01/2008 15:29

Must be the afternoon for in Pumpkinhead. My LO has had her nap (on my lap) for longer than usual this afternoon - meaning she missed her usual Sunday afternoon trip out with Daddy, and I missed my weekly spot of "Mummy time". Ah well, it is better that she gets a proper rest when she needs it, as she'll be much nicer later. She's awake now by the way, playing nicely with her Xmas toys. She made signs of wanting to crawl earlier, by the way, but didn't manage anything more than turning round on the spot.

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 13/01/2008 15:33

Well, lots to catch up on! I'm very sorry to hear about your DD Musy have made this pg very fraught?

Tell us about DS, how much did he weigh when born, what's he like now? Good sleeper? Are you back at work? Do you have days when you wish you were ? Are you an attachment parent or gina ford parent? Do you like to shop? What part of the country are you in? Who is your celebrity crush?

That enough to be getting on with?

Pumpkinhead · 13/01/2008 15:47

Hi Jammy, shame you missed out on your Mummy time - but if it means an easier afternoon /night then I guess its worth it. My LO has woken up now and is still in a bit of a grizzly mood. Don't think its teething. Might try the bouncer for a bit and if that doesn't work then a walk in the sling (via a choc shop!).

Pumpkinhead · 13/01/2008 15:58

Wow bumper, have to make this a teaser and will fill in the gaps later!

This pregnancy was indeed very fraught (hence not posting sooner).
DS weighed 9lb 3oz at birth and is still a little fatty!
He is a nightmare sleeper (another reason for not posting earlier!)
No, I'm not back at work and am planning on being a SAHM. But yes, I have had a few days where the thought of a class of Year 10's would be preferable to being at home (I'm a teacher)
Would like to be more of an attachment parent in an ideal world but not always easy. Gina Ford seems a bit rigid for me, but hey if it works for you... Tending to go with the flow at the moment, more due to lack of experience than any plan.
I love to buy things, but am a pretty impatient shopper. If I can't find exactly what I want then I give up. Not that I've actually done much shopping in the last few months!
Can't think of any celebrity crushes at the moment, but I'll give it some thought. and I'm based on the south coast. Phew, that was more than I thought!

HellHathNoFury · 13/01/2008 16:10

Big welcome Pumpkinhead. I also like the name btw
Please stay, we have had so many come and go and we do miss people when the leave. Nice that they have a RL and all but what about us that don't

So so sorry to hear about your LO.

Bumper forgot to ask if you were a Tesco's or Sainsbury's girl

Ok help.
DS seems to be better now. And he is destroying the house. Don't get me wrong - over the moon he is no longer ill and is now eating (that was the worst bit, he has been surviving on nothing but 6oz every day for a week) but there was something just REALLY nice about the immobility of it all.

And another thing.
I HATE WW I AM SO GODDAMN HUNGRY
perhaps I should keep that for the other thread

milkyJammy · 13/01/2008 16:11

Then don't WW Fury! (I hate them as much as, if not more than, Tesco btw)

Pumpkinhead · 13/01/2008 16:17

Hi Fury - I do plan on staying (if you'll have me!) but not sure if I'll be able to keep up with all your posts. Don't get me wrong - I have no RL either, but DS doesn't seem to understand the concdept of "Me time" . I'm an unwilling Tesco girl. It just happens to be the closest food shop to me. Would love to buy all my food from quirky deli's and farmers markets, but they're too bloody expensive for the weekly shop. Get a few bits here and there, but get all the main bits from the evil Tesco's. Anyway, better go now. Will try and pop back on later. Glad to hear your LO is better and eating again.

HellHathNoFury · 13/01/2008 16:23

Jammy... but seriously... I am bloody starving but WW does seem to be working for me. SW was rubbish, didn't understand it, but WW just makes me stop and think before I have that sauce or have that butter.
I am just finding it a bit of a struggle atm as I am not used to saying no to myself but I am sure give it a few days and I will be managing my points allowance ok.

Why don't you get on with it?

LittleMissNorty · 13/01/2008 16:30

but SW is so much easier if you're hungry cos you can eat as many bananas as you want

Welcome Pumpkinhead.....if you've been lurking all that time, you'll know us all quite well already ...I lurked for ages as well until we went postnatal and I realised I needed the help and experience and friendship of the girls on here.....so do stay

Sorry to hear about your DD.....

What date was your DS born? Straightforward birth?

Bumper....I am very confident etc to the front...very common isn't it I think.....some of my staff at work would fall off their chairs if they knew what I was like out of work....the hormones when I was pg nearly showed them ....rather than not seeing the real me on here - I think thats exactly what you see....I love the internet from that point of view....I NEVER talk to people I don't know usually....unless I'm at work in a professional capacity IYKWIM....

milkyJammy · 13/01/2008 16:35

I've never tried it Fury, so I can't say that I don't get on with it - I just HATE the principle of them making such profit out of people wanting to lose weight. At the end of the day, take in too many calories and/or don't burn any off and you'll gain weight, take in less calories and/or burn off more and you'll lose weight. Hardly rocket science. And yes, I know that anyone who has seen me will say that who is she to talk, her that is many, many stones overweight. Any maybe they are right, but I just don't like it. Sorry.

thisisRialifebaby · 13/01/2008 16:52

tis OK jammy, damned good point actually and makes a change from supermarket-slagging. I suppose it all equates to clever advertising.

hi pumpkinhead and welcome, so sorry about your DD, do you facebook? You can join us on there so we can see your LO. (BTW foxy, I'm not ignoring you, have buggered my hotmail and still can't work out FB).

I don't know if this is the real me or not. We are very similar I suppose, but Ria is slimmer (of course), not quite as bitchy, and funnier. I like her a lot and want to keep her. Wonder if anyone in RL would notice.

I went to an independant veg shop yesterday. It was GRIM. (we weren't near the farm shop so had to make do).

OP posts:
milkyJammy · 13/01/2008 16:54

Thanks Ria. DH is now worried about this Tesco-hating and WW-hating side of me so hoped I hadn't burnt all bridges with Jun '07 mummies!

Being nosey, what was grim about the veg shop?

thisisRialifebaby · 13/01/2008 16:55

I am tempted to go back to using my vast SW resources. It's just all too sodding boring and time-consuming. I can't be arsed, but I just can't get any fatter

OP posts:
thisisRialifebaby · 13/01/2008 17:02

it felt really unclean (not dirty as such - tis to be expected when veg grows in soil...)

it didn't feel like it was bursting with life and freshness IYKWIM.

Am cos we passed a lovely looking farm shop on the way home that I didn't know was there.

don't think we really do burning bridges here do we?

must go and feed the little buggers and iron the school shirts. Arse.

OP posts:
thisisRialifebaby · 13/01/2008 17:06

I just HAVE to say before I go, the BBC Colonel Brandon just ISN'T Alan Rickman (creepy RL git he may apparently be, no-one else wears boots in quite the same way, apart from the new Mr D'Arcy and ...)

OP posts:
milkyJammy · 13/01/2008 17:13

Alan Rickman, now you're talking! He's up there alongside Colin Firth, Simon Pegg, and Noel Fielding if you ask me

thisisRialifebaby · 13/01/2008 18:10

I don't know who Noel Fielding is.

Kingdom is the Stephen Fry drama on ITV later. Nice and calm.

Have just disgraced myself with DH because I know the songs in Grease 2.

I just know the skating is going to make mefeel like an elephant, but I can't resist!

OP posts:
HellHathNoFury · 13/01/2008 19:10

nah no-one is burning bridges!

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 13/01/2008 19:13

Simon pegg?! seriously?

i am loving sense & sensibility though, more than the film (though it does seem like some of the cast watched the film a little too often...)

IKWYM about ww jammy, but it does work & i guess it just puts things in a context. a lot of food nowadays has "hidden calories" that you may not think about and when you think "i could either have a jacket potato or 2 square of chocolate" it make you think a bit more. i think what a lot of people pay for is the motivation of the meetings.
