Can you believe it! Our lovely little ones are (roughly) halfway to their first birthdays.

Welcome friends old and new for discussion of sleep, teeth, weaning, milestones, navigating post-baby relationships and the whole existential dread of parenthood... I mean those amazing moments when they make your heart melt. Or produce a poo that makes the wallpaper melt. Oh, all of them. Nothing is off limits because it's just good to know that somebody else has been there.

Ah happy to see this thread pop back up!

@Jessicapebbles Ebony is gorgeous
@Ready2020 so is Rowan!

Congratulations @biscuitcat and @sarah13xx ! I know there are a few other new babies too from messages around start of the year.

Alasdair is turning 2 next week. He's so lovely, enjoy seeing him becoming more of a little person everyday. We're trying for a second but so far no luck.

@WolfMother326 aww he’s gorgeous! Crazy how fast they’re growing up. Good luck with #2, hopefully it doesn’t take too long for you 🤞🏻 I forgot how hard the ‘trying’ stage was until we were back there again but at least had the reassurance that it had happened once, whereas the first time didn’t have a clue if it would happen or not!

WolfMother326 · 07/08/2023 20:45

Thanks @sarah13xx we have only been trying a couple of months but it feels like an emotional rollercoaster. I'm 39 but fingers crossed I still got it 🙂

Jessicapebbles · 08/08/2023 06:47

Thank you, Ebony had a fabulous birthday last weekend. This week we're up in Northumberland and have been exploring beaches, Ebby has been in her element.

Lovely to hear of people having/trying for more babies. We're very content with our 2 girls. As lovely it would be to try for a boy, no 🤣. We're done!

Congratulations @Fran919! Glad you're finding your rhythm - it must have been a surprise having an early arrival!

We're not toilet training yet - Rowan will say when he's done a poo, but nothing else. I'm kind of hoping to put it off as long as possible! I'm hoping if I wait till he's really, really ready it'll be quick and painless...

@WolfMother326 such a cute photo! He looks so grown up, I just can't believe they were ever tiny babies. Fingers crossed you get lucky soon with another pregnancy.

@Jessicapebbles another gorgeous pic! I've never been to Northumberland but it's on my list, meant to be absolutely beautiful - but probably not for a couple of years as we're down south and baby Fraser does not enjoy even short car journeys 😂

Mmr224 · 13/08/2023 11:43

Alasdair was 2 yesterday. Not sure where the time has gone. His sister was 3 in May so life is pretty hectic just now. They are both getting to the point they will play together now though so starting to get easier.

Ahhh beautiful boys and girls @WolfMother326 @Jessicapebbles @Mmr224! So glad you're all still here and lovely to read the updates!

Such lovely news, congratulations @Fran919! I hope you're all doing well, sounds like you've had an intense few months with the early arrival.

We're potty training this or next month, all the signs are there. Wish me luck 🤣

Anyone weaned off dummy successfully? He has it overnight and realllllly doesn't want to give it up 🙄 xx

Sarah13xx · 14/08/2023 02:39

Oh good luck @PurplePansy05 I very nearly went for it with the potty training before baby but decided to get this out the way first then deal with the potty training after 😅 We’re going on holiday towards the end of the year and I’d really like him to be ‘potty trained’ by then

Smurf123 · 14/08/2023 07:37

Hi everyone
Lovely to hear everyone doing so well!
We potty trained this week.. Well actually we tried last Monday and it was a complete and utter failure S was stressed out and I figured it wasn't worth her being so upset so we went back to pull ups. Fast forward to Thursday she got up and asked for the potty. Impromptu day at home and she wore pull ups but kept them dry and used the potty/toilet all day. She's been in pants since Saturday and we have had no accidents so far. I'm amazed. Downside she woke at 1am last night insisted on the toilet which she did need but then wanted to get up for the day 😂😂
She still has a bottle of water before bed so probably need to try cutting that out. Otherwise she's usually always happy, loves creche, tormenting her brother, the swing and bouncing! The bouncing never stops 🤣

Hello beautiful ladies.

So chuffed to read all your updates! Congratulations to those of you all for having a second one - amazing news!! We've put a pin on it and will revisit in about 8 months to see if we want another one. At the moment the focus is getting a house out of London. Still not sure where but somewhere we can commute into London. I'm a civil servant and need to go to the office atleast once a week and my husband needs to come to London twice a week for work too. Let's see how we get on but for now we're content with one. Like @WolfMother326 I'm an older mum too. Will be 38 in December so want to see if it happens. All the best to you @WolfMother326 x

Arya-Nyah turned 2 on the 10th and she had a great birthday. We took her to Thomas land in the midlands and she was soo excited to go on ALL rides. Lol.

She's talking a lot. She saying big words too. We got Harmonica yesterday and yes she's holding boundaries too. Tells me when she doesn't want cuddles but then randomly comes and gives me several cuddles in the day and kisses too 🥰🥰. She's still a mamas girl though

I've potty trained her (only day time though) since she was 22 months old. I didn't go down the training pants method but got a potty 1 week before started potty training to familiarise her with what it is. She mostly followed me when I used the toilet so she kind of had an idea. The potty I got for her looks just like a grown up toilet and also flushes. So that sealed the deal. Three days of wetting the floor completely as I let her roam without anything and from day 4 she was pretty much telling me when she wanted to go. We still had accidents for a month (especially since she went to nursery and they kept the potty far) but she's been in knickers since 22+ months and uses pampers at night.

Hi everyone. It's birthday week here with both the 2yo and 5yo birthdays this weekend so it's total chaos. Also coming to the end of the third week of Kita holidays which is just manic. And the weather is totally horrible, unbearable heat + humidity, over 30 degrees a lot of the time or torrential rain.

My older kids have been total nightmares to potty train and not dry until over 3, so I had been sticking my head in the sand but actually, we were in the cellar the other day and Alex spotted the old potty and immediately wanted to sit on it, so we've got it out and are doing some half hearted nappy free time if we remember most days. So far had no successes but also not many accidents. Maybe seeing his big brother use the toilet is a motivator? I don't know.

@Whatshouldbemyusername such a similar situation! Good luck with the moving and eventually the baby hopes. We had Alasdair while living in our very tiny flat in London but moved to East Sussex when he was about 6 months old, we've got a small house now that is just right for us and can get into London one day a week each in about an hour - hour and a half depending on where we are going (very direct for husband, less so for me but I am more flexible). It's been such a good move for us, our new town has a real community feel and a lot of countryside on the doorstep.

I'm amazed by everyone potty training. I don't think we are quite there yet, but we will put out the potty soon just to get used to the idea.

Happy birthday to all the babies this month x

Ready2020 · 16/08/2023 11:07

I'm going to be 40 in February so that terrifies me. That sort of made up my mind about another baby.

No official potty training here though Rowan has used the potty once for a poop on her asking. The next time she said she needed she was getting very stressed out about it so we're just going to wait.

Teeth brushing is still causing us so much stress! We were doing OK with using stickers as a reward but we went away for a week to granny's and it all went to pot. I'm back to pretty much pinning her down which I hate doing. But she needs to brush her teeth.

Nursery is going well apart from naps. She's gone up to the next room and they only nap in beds which she refuses to do. So she comes home knackered.

Still got dummy for nap and bed. I'm not too bothered about it. Her speech is awesome so it's not having any effect.

Nice to hear everyone is well.
