Get well soon to everyone who has or is dealing with germs and snooze vibes to all dbs who are not sleeping. Does anyone know if Kenny Craig is available for hire?
Congrats to your dh Geogteach.

Braved Oxford Street with the Bean today. My God. Took him into Selfridges which I NEVER normally go to, so don't know what possessed me but he loved all the lights, noise etc. Looked damn cute in his furry hat too. I am completely smitten with him at the moment. It's official.
Dp off for xmas too, so relieved to have daily assistance for the next 2 weeks.

geogteach · 21/12/2004 09:45

DS2 slept 7.5 hours last night (am I sounding like a sleep bore yet?) Sorry its not going so well for you Toots. Bean you are very brave i've barely been to London since DS1 was born 3.5 years ago and certainly not to Oxford Street! Have actually booked a date for DS1 baptism so another party to organise, but its something to look forward to in the bleek days of January.

florenceuk · 21/12/2004 11:54

well another terrible night as DD lay on my chest and coughed at 10 min intervals, wriggled etc and woke up for a feed at 11.30, 4am and 7.30 - so not even the saving grace of sleeping more when she's sick! At least i could dose her with calpol at 4am. And DH was in with me as we had a friend to stay, so he got a taste of why I am so ratty and irritable all the time. Have to admit I barely spoke to friend as was worried about DD and then had to lie with her to get her to sleep. I promise to tackle this problem post Xmas! Lots of sympathetic hugs to those of you still suffering with night wakings and sighs of envy to the rest! BTW who is Kenny Craig??? And a minor irritation but my cleaner has dipped out on me AGAIN as she now has the vomiting bug....

Toots slightly worried that you are feeling so sad and weepy - how is the BF thing going? My reaction to tiredness is to become irrationally angry, and a little bit neglectful (typing as DD starts to wail in the background). Hope Xmas brings some rest.

Geogteach, sounds like DS is doing really well. Congrats to your DH as well - can we get free advice?

Can't believe you actually went to Oxford st yesterday Bean - I make it a rule never to go in December (Kingston likewise!) One year though we did take DS to Selfridges in that post-Xmas period to look at the sales - he loved it!

Xmas - we have no tree and poor DS was worried that Santa wouldn't know to come here. I did try not ever to talk about Santa but nursery, childminder etc have defeated me. Have reassured him that Santa will know where to go even though we are away (as we are decamping to the country for Xmas). Mind you he has already talked to about 3 Santas so far so surely he would have noticed they were all different???

OP posts:
cazzybabs · 21/12/2004 12:13

florenceuk I hope your dd is getting better and you are managing to get some sleep - poor you! And about the 3 different santas - I don't think children notice bacause they want to belive so much.

Geogteach- well done to your dh!

I have sent dp to doctors with dd1 who mangered to fall over and catch her eye on a lamppost yesterday. IT is so swollen and sore. AND to top it off I have a phobia of eyes - so decided to do pariniod parent bit and check there is no damage although I am sure there isn't. She normally has to be on death's door to go but I did have to plead with the receptionist for the nurse to look at her. DD2 is lying in her cot laughing at her mobile - she really loves it it is so funny. Anwyway better go and change her nappy - she has quite bad nappy rask partly due to bad mummy not changing it often enough and also due to cold I think.

Toots · 21/12/2004 20:40

Yes, me too Florence, angry and very impatient. Have got ingrained frown lines. BF situation has resolved, sadly. The regime for bulking milk up is too much for me to take on - hand expressing and pumping after every feed - So I am mixed feeding, giving two bfs a day. Sadly, I am finding it really hard to accept, and find myself thinking about it loads (crying when I'm awake at night and stuff). But really, I think the sadness might be just as much a produce of sleep deprivation as it is one of not fully breast feeding. It's like my frazzled mind is scanning all the time for things to feel s**t about, and it keeps landing on this issue. The baby is so contented and smiley, and when sleep gets better I'm sure I will be too. It's like a big part of me has moved on, but one small part is just hanging on like a sobbing drunk at a party, going over the same thing again, and again. Meanwhile, you, Miss Florence, have my sympathy, and I do agree that your dd needs to find a replacement for her mummy mattress, however grisly the process, so big hugs for facing that one.

Beansprout - Selfridges???? On 21st December????? Are you mad? Or were you getting me that Fendi bag that I like

Geogteach - am increasingly jealous of DS2's sleeping.

Distracted - nice to hear from you.

Cazzybabs - sorry to hear about dd1's eye and dd2's bum.

Bellie · 22/12/2004 09:49

Toots - don't beat yourself up - you are giving it your best shot and as you say your dd is content and smiling and what she needs is a mum who is smiley too!!
Hugs for all who have unwell children - dh and I have had the stinking cold and now we are just waiting for dd to get in in time for Christmas day (although at least grandparents will be here to clean up snot).
Congratulations to geogteach's dh - it will be nice to have him locally - and in reply to a previous message I would love to meet up in the new year for a coffee now I can drive!
Bean - so impressed about oxford street - I though I was the bees knees going to Bluewater on my own!

Toots · 22/12/2004 13:18

Had better sleep last night and feel MUCH better. Geogteach, great that dh will be local.

brusselbeansprouts · 22/12/2004 16:59

Bellie - you ARE the bees knees - we all are. So there.
Toots - glad you have more sleep. Lack of the stuff is guaranteed to make anything feel worse than it already does. Please, please give yourself permission to do this. You are your own harshest critic here. Tell the sh*tty committee to ajourn for Christmas....?

Bean continues to be pretty damn gorgeous even if he did scream my friend's house down this morning. I'm still too smitten to think this is anything other than just a way of my marvellous son expressing himself. Ahem.
After that though, I met up with dp and we risked it by going out for lunch for the 1st time... and Bean slept all the way through. He is currently hitting himself in the face a lot although I pass this off as him trying to get his thumb in his mouth. Honest.

Are we all ready for Christmas?

geogteach · 22/12/2004 19:21

Ready for Christmas, Ho Ho Ho!
I had lunch with DH yestaday and DS slept through the whole thing maybe these babies are starting to learn what is expected of them! Especially as we bravely opted for the 4 course christmas menu (the other 2 were at nursery)
DS2 is definately going to win today's prize for best behaved, i'm secretly plotting never to tell him about christmas in an attempt to avoid the over excitememt and general appallling behaviour that seems to have afflicted the other 2 today!

florenceuk · 22/12/2004 20:30

Am I ready for Xmas - no not really. Spent today wrapping and writing Xmas cards - and worrying about DS's lack of warm socks, the fact that I have no mittens for DD and it is meant to snow where we are going for Xmas...

Toots good to hear about last night. Hope it continues to get better! I think BF is such an emotional thing, it seems so much more than just food. Lots of hugs.

Off to try and get DD to sleep in her cot!

Toots · 22/12/2004 21:07

Today was lovely. Had the brilliant idea of calling in a favour, so it was my sister who did a huge Argos shop for me and lugged it all over in her car. Meanwhile I, feeling really quite normal and happy, wrapped presents and hung out with the baby who laughed for the first time as we played a game in front of the mirror. It was a very funny growling honking noise. Isn't it lovely to be smitten Beansprout?

I swear and promise I am now over it. Mixed feeding and happy

Haven't sent a single Christmas card

And totally forgot about last posting, so some of my chrissy pressies will be new year pressies

Night night all.

miffy2 · 23/12/2004 14:47

Hi all
terrible of me I know but I have been so bad at logging on lately. Finally got broadband installed so that should improve my surf-ability!

DS is now 2 months old and I took him for his first set of shots today He seems fine now if a bit clingy.

He sleeps reasonably well - goes down sometime between 7-8 and wakes once on a good night, twice on a bad one. I would love some decent sleep though, something like 5 or 6 hrs in a row would be nice

I am thoroughly enjoying being at home with my 3 kids (!), although the days alternate between domestic goddess bliss ...and days from hell when I just want to walk out of the house and keep going! DH never knows what to expect when he gets home in the evening!

The baby had a granola (SP?) in his belly button which was like an extra bit of skin so that had to be tied off and dissolved. It was pretty disgusting to look at but now he is the owner of a perfect belly button

BF'ing is going OK, I had introduced a bottle but have slipped up in that area since he has started to settle for the night at an earlier time. I must get going again as I had a terrible time getting DS1 to take a bottle at 5 months.

Hope to catch up with you all more frequently (I will print out this page and have a proper read later). Ciao till then.

brusselbeansprouts · 23/12/2004 15:56

Hi Miffy, good to hear from you!
Florence - hope the mummy mattress situation is improving?
Toots - glad you are feeling better, but no brave fronts young lady. If you start to feel down again, you come tell the meece, ok?

Ok here except for a Bean who pretty much won't sleep during the day. If we can get him to have one nap, then good. Yesterday's lunchtime sleep was a right bonus (we must be getting time off for good behaviour) but he tends to get increasingly fractious as the day wears on. That said, while the nights are pretty much ok, I'm not going to moan/worry about it too much.

Er, is it worth getting a tree now?!

biglips · 23/12/2004 16:59

hi there... its hard to find this thread but now found it . baba had her 1st vacc jabs nearly 2 weeks ago and i felt really nervous as i felt that i was having the needles. she had put on 5lbs since she was born on 01/10. she is now a 14lbs big baba. i switched over to white SMA when baba was 8 wks old as i was feeding her every 4 hrs but seh needed alot of it on gold sma but on the white still every 4 hours in the day but she takes on average 8oz and is alot happier now. baba sleeps thru the nites now since on white sma as she only sleeps about 4 -5 hrs in the day and she sleeps 8 - 9 hrs thru the nite, most mornings i have to wake her up. at the mo she is teething as she is forever sucking her hands which she is slobbering so gonna try out the teething toys to baba.

baba had a cold last week - just a small one but she is slowly recovering as her bowels abit runny.

i havent read everyones messages as it takes me 4 ever!

huppa · 23/12/2004 18:59

Beansprout - you have to have a tree - it´s just not Christmas without one. Ours has been sitting on our balcony for the last week because Germans don´t put them up to the 24th which seems such a waste when they take them down again on the 5th. Dh did agree one year to it going up earlier, but said it just didn´t feel right.

Toots - glad to hear you´re feeling a bit happier.Sleep deprivation definitely makes every problem seem ten times worse.
I´m quite tearful at the moment for no particular reason - I think it´s just a mixture of tiredness and dd´s endless energy and tantrums. Thank god ds seems to be quite a laid back baby at the moment - long may it last.

I hope everyones ill babies and kids are fit in time for Christmas and that you have as relaxing and fun time as possible.

geogteach · 23/12/2004 19:03

Miffy good to hear from a fellow 3rd timer, have to say its a lot tougher with pre school on holiday! DS2 still winning in best behaviour stakes but DD put on a good show today, I used both of my best 'no where to go, but need to get out of the house' tricks today, the bottle bank and the car wash, how sad is that. Need to come up with a kings paige outfit by tomorrow night, feel I may have left this one a tad late!
DS got a somewhat belated birth gift yestaday, a rainbow striped beany, it is so cool, DD has tried to nick it so with her stretching it he should be able to wear it for a good while yet!

biglips · 23/12/2004 20:15

im abit p*** off as no ale for the next 6 days - boo hoo! as i had my c-section 11 weeks ago now and when i came home, i had a wound infection which was cleared up but in the last week ive had a tummy ache and twinges on both end of scar or hips, docs said ive still got the infection !!!. my belly looks 5 months preg and its hard too due to the infection BUT i can get pissed on new year eve instead

brusselbeansprouts · 23/12/2004 22:57

Well, we have a tree now. Dp went and got it and it was ENORMOUS. Suddenly this really, really mattered and it felt like the last straw, or something. Spent ages chopping it back so it doesn't look ridiculous while Bean was crying and I was trying to get dinner done too (dp had to go out). All done now but boy was I in a foul mood when he got back... ahem.

Motto for xmas - don't sweat the small stuff (repeat until calm...)
Bean loves the tree lights though

geogteach · 24/12/2004 12:48

DH has stayed at home today and taken the eldest 2 to the airport to look at the planes so slightly calmer here today.
What are all these babies getting for their first christmas? Louis will be sporting a white company sleep suit as I figure he doesn't really need anything but wanted to make the point to his brother and sister that he wasn't being left out!
Inspired by beans trip ti Selfridges I wondered if the meece thought it might be an idea to plan a baby free, evening meet up in central London, possibly in February when we've all got over Christmas and hopefully trained our youngests to sleep, drink from bottles, behave for dAddy or whatever else. I'll leave it to someone else to suggest venue etc as its so long since I was in London anywhere i've heard of probably doesn't exist anymore!

brusselbeansprouts · 24/12/2004 15:04

I'm up for that geogteach, sounds good to me.
Have got Bean a wrist rattle and a shiny book. We have been watching "Babe" (well, I've been watching it while he has been sleeping on me). Magic
Am feeling all squidgy and festive now.

biglips · 25/12/2004 01:03

happi xmas

brusselbeansprouts · 25/12/2004 16:09

Happy Christmas fellow meece!
Thank you all for being so brilliant this year and hope you are all having lovely days with your dbs (and other dds/dss too).

xx

Toots · 28/12/2004 19:47

Hi all. How was Christmas? Mine was spot on. No hassle but lots of fun - my mum and sister did all the hard work. Have been mostly having a great time really, apart from serious tiredness - dd2 has mostly been waking two or three times a night for the last ten days or so - she has a vile cold. She is twelve weeks old today and starting to look plumptious and hold things and 'play' with them.

florenceuk · 30/12/2004 21:56

Happy new year everyone! Did you know that this was the Chinese year of the Monkey? Apparently Monkeys are very intelligent and likely to be very successful!

Had a very nice Xmas away in the country, but not much rest as DD is waking pretty regularly twice or more a night - she manages to sleep about 3 hrs from when she is put down anytime between 7-9pm, and then wakes 3-hrly after that. We don't seem to have any routine in the day either, but as we're off to NZ on the 23rd not much point perhaps. However I have managed to get her in her cot, by swaddling her and putting her on her side, and then rocking her off to sleep - it still takes ages, but she does sleep by herself and not on me which is a vast improvement and has given me back my evenings. This meant that we did manage to eat out courtesy of the baby listening service, although dinner was sometimes very late - lovely to have a meal out though, the last for a while I think! Not sure what I'll do on holiday as I can't see myself leaning over the travel cot for 30min rocking her, but one small step at a time...

Back to real life, and DD had her jabs today and so far no sign of a reaction - although I am hoping for a sleepy day tomorrow. DH going to take DS to the Science Museum and I am hoping to stay at home and watch Star Wars uninterrupted! DS and I watched Superman today and I was struck by Margo Kidder's horrible clothes - real 80s stuff.

Geogteach, sad to say, I won't be able to make a meet-up in February as I'll be in NZ, but I will be back by Easter so pencil me in for one then.

OP posts:
Toots · 31/12/2004 09:24

Hi Florence. Well done on getting dd into her cot, that must be liberating. Hope you're enjoying Star Wars, and not too horrified by Carrie Fisher's wardrobe . (Just had a total blank on her surname so asked dp who said wouldn't it be funny if she married Phil Oakey - Carrie Oakey - geddit?)

DD2 managed a massive 4 and a half hours from 11 last night. And not as much waking from coughing. She hardly feeds when she wakes, and drops straight off, so if that continues when she's feeling a bit better, I think it's time to leave her a couple of minutes to see if she'll go back off after her first wake.

Hope the rest of you are healthy and happy. I'm taking DD1 to London Bubble's Cinderella this afternoon. It should be rubbish double entendre free. I wish I felt more enamoured by her, but she has thrown a couple of massive wobblies a day for the last three days or so, and I'm on a very short fuse (some cause and effect I feel sure )
