Nice here eh? Seven is a lovely magic number.

DD has horrible cough off DH. They are both hacking away like nanny goats so our house is rather noisy and I s'pose I'll have to get it too, sooner or later. A real workout for the immune system at 6 months anyway.

Think maybe my purees were a little bit lumpy for DD. She really went for the bought stuff I gave her today, and I was quite reassured. Anyone actually tried the Hipp apple and blueberry? So tasty I could have it on toast , no probs.

Georgina hope your hands, feet and mouths are OK.

Twiglett you are a rascal... sleeping through eh? what on earth is she thinking of?

Think I would rather miss my little overnight fixes of DD if she didn't remind me of her presence every 3 hours or so.

Ah, should just correct as I've looked it up. Mum was given the antibiotics for the pneumonia component - it's anti-inflammatories they give for pleurisy. info here

GeorginaA · 30/11/2004 18:10

Found another site with a better explanation + diagram here . It does seem that it can be fairly common and isn't necessarily "serious" (just bl**dy painful).

Wishing him a speedy recovery either way.

cat82 · 30/11/2004 19:25

Oooh sorry Egypt Our posts crossed and when i posted mine i just spotted your question about iron- not about the plurasy. Thinking of you and wishing your dad a very speedy recovery.

xx

libb · 30/11/2004 19:48

Evening ladies,

Egypt, please give my love to your Dad - I am a real daddies girl and, if you are like me, hate it when you get the phone calls from Mum (My dad had a really bad time this time last year and it was touch and go if he would be home for Christmas after an operation that happened in November!)

Cat, I perscribe for your weekend blues (and mine) that we go out and have a couple of drinks and leave the menfolk to care for the babbies - what do you think? also, if you are still hanging around Borders on Friday at 12noon then I will pop my head round - cant say fairer than that!

DS is making his feelings about weaning perfectly clear now - he drank 15 ozs last night on top of the 22ozs throughout the day, plus 1 savoury feed and 1 yoghurt. Sadly he made his extra food consumption perfectly clear to himself and the childminder this morning. She has her own 3 kids and had various kiddies to care for over the last 10 so years and she has never known a nappy like it . . . She had to phone a friend for extra clothes as I forgot to put a change of trousers in . My excuse is that we were getting a bit relaxed about it all!

We now have two front teeth, a baby who can only go backwards in his walker (am jealous kbaby!) and whose favourite words are Da-Da, Ka, crcrcrcr, and a generous smattering of clucking tongue! Rolling over - getting better. Crawling - must try harder. Attitude - 100%. Separation anxiety - kicking in.

Anyway, that is the fun and games in our household - hope you are all well. xx

SusiS · 30/11/2004 20:01

G: ds had that "cough for attention" a few weeks ago. i ignored it (which was quite hard because it was so cute when he laughed at me) - now he does sort of a cough but more like a shout in the back of his throat - and he does it aaaaaaal day rolling eyes

egypt: all the best for your dad! hope he gets better soon!

cat: we are having a quite tight schedule over the next few weeks and soon we will be off to austria. but in january count me in

prufrock · 30/11/2004 20:14

Egypt. Pleurisy is painful , but can be treated really succesfuly. It's not nice for your Dad, but it's not somethingto get yourslef really worried for (not that me saying this is going to stop you worrying at all.) Tell him Mumsnet May babies are thinking of him

Cat and Libb - I don't think a couple of drinks are sufficient to cure weekend blues. At least 4 are needed. I can do 8, 9, 10, 13 or 17th December. Any of those any good?

Egyp. As long as you are on solids (including meat) dd will be getting iron from them. There is no need to add iron supplements.

libb · 30/11/2004 20:58

humph, my diary is blank (shocker!) so all is clear except for the 17th which is ex-hubby's birthday, I shall be meeting him for a drink sometime this week so will see if a) he is doing something and b) if I am welcome . . .

(just chatted to him, we are meeting this Thursday so will check then)

Twiglett, forgot to mention - I dropped all BFs last week when DS went on antibiotics and I had a couple of evening meets with friends - it didn't seem fair to enjoy a tipple or 2 and then feed him - he hasn't missed it for a moment, however I have a bit. (not so much this week because I am getting an idea of what the shape of my bosooms were once - ). If you see what I mean xx

Bozza · 01/12/2004 08:49

Egypt - if you are giving baby rice or whatever you could check to see if that has iron added. DD is on chicken and soon to move onto beef (when I cook it) and has two bottles a day (although probably only about 8-9 oz in total) so I have not been too worried.

Cat I'm impressed that you take DDs bouncy chair to the loo with you. I just dump my DD on the bathroom floor - used to be laid down but now sat up. Have actually given my bouncy chair to my sister a month ago.

Egypt hope your Dad's treatment starts to kick in soon.

SusiS · 01/12/2004 09:12

ds actually slept through 7 - 6
well, he woke me at 5am with a few cries but when i went to see him he was still fast asleep
still, that was my night; couldn't go back to sleep

but was much better today with being left on his own. i actually managed to finish off the front garden! (yday i had to wrap him in his snowsuit and dragged the highchair outside )

still not fond of his milk (yday he hab about 13oz) but he loves his solids (had about 16oz )

today he's got that annoying highpitched scream and you just can't stop him!!
i even tried to bribe him with toast

cat82 · 01/12/2004 10:34

Happy first of December everybody!!

We had fun this morning, opening 3 advent calenders (1 for me, 1 for Kiera and 1 for dp) We took some lovely pics of kiera holidng her calender and playing with the first door- before mean dp nicked her chocy and scoffed it

Susi- fab news about the sleep! The high pitched screaming is awful isn't it?! Kiera has the same thing and she drives me MAD with it sometimes.

Libb, Prufrock and anyone else wanting to join in- are we shooting past the daytime meet and sprintint straight for the evening drinkies? Not a problem with me! I am free anytime apart from the 6th, 11th and 16th of December. Libb m'dear you are always welcome to fill a space in you diary by popping by to my humble abode if you would like! It will be lovely to see you in borders

Well, we had our first finger food apple rice cake last night Kiera worked it like a pro!
Would you believe the f*@$!~g blender has gone and blown up. AGAIN.

I am very chuffed- i have done ALL of my upstairs cleaning already! hurrah!

Take care everyone
xxxx

Egypt · 01/12/2004 10:39

thanks for your well wishes and georgina for that information. bless you. dad feels quite a bit better today. he is on codeine for the pain and we still havent got his xray results back to say whether it is pleurisy or not. should do at 12 today.

god, we have been descended on by a plague of flies! in this computer room last night were about 15 flies. at least. i sprayed the spray and they went berserk. god knows where they came from, but dh is going into the loft tonight. we had rats/mice and put some rodent poison down about a month ago........dh hasnt yet been to remove any of the deeeed creatures (sorry, i know it's not nice) if there are any. hmmmm, could be the cause of the flies me thinks. oh dear.

arent any today, just alot of black things littering the floor - time to get the hoover out.

its freeeeeeezing.

Egypt · 01/12/2004 10:40

blimey - i completely missed out on the fact that its 1st december!!!!!!!! blinking 'eck!

cat82 · 01/12/2004 10:46

shudder Egypt about the flies!
It is indeed the 1st...and my AF should have been her 2 days ago.....Where is it?!

TheHollyAndTheTwiglett · 01/12/2004 10:59

Hope your Dad feels better soon Egypt

sorry haven't caught up with you all

Cat .. is there any chance at all???? could you be???

DD has been a bit pukey the last couple of days but at least she's sleeping better (went 7pm to 7am yesterday and 6.30pm to 6am this morning .. one more night and it'll be a routine won't it?)

I am wondering whether to stop bf .. but its so much easy than sterilising bottles and formula .. and not sure she'll take a bottle

SusiS · 01/12/2004 11:03

heya "lady of the flies" *winking at egypt; good luck with your monster hunt later!

cat as i said: you are so organised
normally i am too; just not with cleaning the house
and we decided not to get an adventcalendar this year; since we won't be here for the big day and last year i only opened all the windows but didn't eat any of the choccies

thumbs up on fingerfood @kiera

*pinchpunch 1st of the month

cat82 · 01/12/2004 11:16

Thehollyandthe twiglett (LOVE the name change btw ) I was on the pill when i fell pg with Kiera...after she was born i moved to the patch...but after i'd started using it, i discovered it is the same effectivness as the pill. So the short answer to that is...i guess i could. Eek. Please everyone, send AF vibes my way!

TheHollyAndTheTwiglett · 01/12/2004 11:17

Test .. will send you the vibes you want .. but you should test just in case

SusiS · 01/12/2004 11:18

and btw, TEST

oh gawd, we have dh's work colleague from america staying at ours tonight ...... in the fly zone.

Bozza · 01/12/2004 11:56

Why do you want to stop bf TH&TT? The reason I started giving the formula in the day was because of going back to work. Really can't be bothered with the idea of middle of the night/first thing bottles. How is your DD with a cup?

cat82 · 01/12/2004 12:30

Right i'm going to test this afternoon, as soon as kiera gets up from nap land.
Butterflys in tummy....

TheHollyAndTheTwiglett · 01/12/2004 13:01

{{{{Vibey-vibe-vibes}}}}}

Yes DD takes a cup for water

Am worried that if I don't stop soon then it'll be much harder later on and she'll realise more what's being taken away

.. and can't see myself BF'ing a big baby .. sometimes I look down and think OMG she's too big to BF what must people think .. that stupid embarrassment is seeping in now too about other people seeing me do it

.. sorry I know its not the right way to think and I've done a whole thread on this previously .. I'm just fighting internal feelings .. never thought I'd get to this stage to be honest (and I have that heated thread to thank for that)

of course other times I look down and just think ahh my baby

hypocritical moi??

prufRockingAroundtheXmasTree · 01/12/2004 13:06

Twiglett - dd just stopped herself at about 11 months.
Could you try a routine soon? Cut down to morning, post nap and evening feeds? That's all she'll "need" soon, and you should be able to do all those snug at home, or just give a cup for the lunchtime feed, so no embarrasment factor.

TheHollyAndTheTwiglett · 01/12/2004 13:09

hush your mouth Pru (no I'm not typing it all) .. a routine? pswah

(no she does routine quite well on her own)

TheHollyAndTheTwiglett · 01/12/2004 13:09

I mean that's virtually all she gets now anyway .. what you said give or take
