Nice here eh? Seven is a lovely magic number.

DD has horrible cough off DH. They are both hacking away like nanny goats so our house is rather noisy and I s'pose I'll have to get it too, sooner or later. A real workout for the immune system at 6 months anyway.

Think maybe my purees were a little bit lumpy for DD. She really went for the bought stuff I gave her today, and I was quite reassured. Anyone actually tried the Hipp apple and blueberry? So tasty I could have it on toast , no probs.

Georgina hope your hands, feet and mouths are OK.

Twiglett you are a rascal... sleeping through eh? what on earth is she thinking of?

Think I would rather miss my little overnight fixes of DD if she didn't remind me of her presence every 3 hours or so.

oh kbaby!!! can i have an autograph

SusiUnderAMistletoe · 20/12/2004 21:13

evening ladies! have put lucas to bed at 7.30pm; cried out once so far - dp and i didn't dare to move or breathe - guess ds didn't even wake up [phewww] - dp has just left for work and i am quite tired anyways! so will catch up on my book; snuggled up in bed

prufRockingAroundtheXmasTree · 20/12/2004 22:12

excellent news kbaby - taht will be required watching for us all.

Cat - I would come over to keep you company tomorrow but I have a date with a dentist. I HATE going to the dentist, but dh insists on an annual checkup.

We are having bad nights as well - ds was up with me from 4-6 on Sun am, then dh got up. at 8am he managed to get ds back to sleep and came back to bed himself. 4 minutes later dd came in.
He does have a really snotty nose, and is teething (front two have come through together and look so huge, like that kid with the fairies on Sat am TV.) And because of teh teeth ds has a really sore thumb (I thought he'd burnt it at first) and my nipples are cracked and bleeding. I don't like bf anymore. I've never had problems before but am now realising waht a wuss I am, still, at least I get to use the Kamillosan I bough pre dd

SusiUnderAMistletoe · 21/12/2004 07:35

wohooo i got my boy back! we had a good night - ds went down at 6.30, cried out at 3.30 (didn't even wake up), woke briefly at 6 (turned him over and dummy in) and finally we both woke at 7 when daddy came home
and now he is sitting in his chair, waiting for his milk and growling and shouting - so back to normal
cat: i would come over; just so much to do still - but when are back!! promised

Starofbethlibbhem · 21/12/2004 18:52

Prufrock, odd question but were you in Cambridge today? there was a lady who had clearly been to the dentist today in a shop with her DD . . . a long shot but would be spooky!

shepherdswatchtheircatsbynight · 21/12/2004 19:33

Eurgh. Yuk. God i feel awful. Have been able to do nothing but lie on the couch feeling sorry for myself today. Kiera, fortunatly was in a good mood today (maybe due to the tooth breakthough?) or maybe she felt sorry for me

Susi- aww i'm glad lucas is back to normal. I will hold you to the visit

Prufrock- would have been lovely to see you, but i understand, I hate the dentist as well!

Kbaby- Ooooh stardom beckons, i want an autograph as well!!

Jinglespots- On the sweet front, i don't give Kiera rusks, but she does have dessert after her lunch, normaly a vanilla flavour jar of some description but then she has fruit and a danone baby yogurt after tea. Haven't given her chocolate yet, but at the mummy and babie meet up last week every baby got a white chocolate button each apart from kiera and i felt like a really cruel mummy, poor thing looked so left out nibbling on her organic apple rice cake! (maybe chocolate isn't very far off....)

The funeral for dps family freind was today , but he said everyone was holding up well, and the ceremony was very moving.

Lots of love everyone xxxxx

SusiUnderAMistletoe · 21/12/2004 20:10

had a very busy day today with packing and lucas was just fab! - well, didn't have much time for him today - BUT over the next 3 weeks he will get spoiled anyways [grins]
phewww, will have to go to bed soonish! we have to leave at 4 am!!! - sooooooo many things for lo to pack!

shepherdswatchtheircatsbynight · 21/12/2004 20:31

Susi- have a fab, fab wonderful time! Happy Christmas!

xxxxx

SusiUnderAMistletoe · 21/12/2004 21:03

allrighty! we are off to bed now. i wish everybody a merry chrismas and a happy new year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i might be able to have a peek on here

jinglespots · 21/12/2004 21:29

happy xmas Susi and family!

Rusk ! Say it ain't so! Will be careful about them now.

DD was great today, had her 4 bfeeds only at lunch, before and after 2pm nap, and before bed. But was desparate at around eleven so I gave her a bottle of EBM. Have never felt the need to do this myself before, so it was a revelation when she glugged the whole lot down with evident relief and fell fast asleep on my shoulder.Obviously she relies on the milk itself as well as the squidgy friendly bosom. This was good news. Suppose I could switch to formula for some feeds rather than slogging through the expressing business but to be honest I feel like I've come this far without it I'd rather not. And I looked at the ingredients of a pack in the Co-op and couldn't make head nor tail of it. So I shall try and express as much as possible for now. Lots of comedy moments trying to hide the pump and boob activity from ever-present DD. She was playing in her cot and I was furtively skooshing away behind a towel draped over the side. And I quietly expressed a side when we came in from the cold, her still in the backpack singing away and me still with my jacket on.

Is Linnet still with us?

SantasLittleEgypt · 22/12/2004 09:12

lol at your expressing spots! you have made 6 months of bf, so i wouldnt worry about giving formula now. but thats up to you. i'm not expressing any more. so much of a hassle and now she actually likes aptimil formula i'm buying that. she has a bottle at bed again and woke at 130/5/830. coincidence that bm makes her wake more?!?!?

anyway, god kbaby!! you're going to be on the TELE!!!!!!!!!!! very exciting. are you making the video diary already? spose you'll have to record all the times she cried, won't eat, won't sleep, wakes in the night etc so gina can sort it for you! well done on monday night btw. lucky you.

have a good christmas susi, but you're gone by now.

dd has fruit desert puree of some description after at least one meal a day. have given her sone greek yogurt with a little puree in but think she finds it too bitter. is that the word? it is much more satisfying when she loves what she eats. ie - jars! think i may mix a bit of my boring pureed veggies in with a little jar food today both to get her used to the taste and to use some of the darn stuff up!

ChristmasBOOZA · 22/12/2004 09:14

Oh yes - Linnet hasn't posted for ages. LOL about the secretive expressing - I used to be like that with DD before we went over to mixed feeding. DD is still having just two bottles a day which has saved us loads of money I think. Whoever was asking about which milk to give I still just give DD the first milk because I think she's getting a reasonable diet of solids - likes beef casserole, apricots etc so getting iron that way.

DD had to be off nursery yesterday and took her to the doctor (still sicky, extra tired, screaming and writhing in the night, temperature, diarhea etc) but its "just a virus". After staying in all weekend (or at least in shifts with DH) I decided to keep an arrangement to see some relatives of DH on Monday. Also I've cancelled them twice (chicken pox for each child)and had the nursery photo of the children to take. Anyway we'd had lunch, DD had had a sleep and was sitting on my lap when she vomitted big time all over herself, me and the sofa. I had a change of clothes for her but had to drive home 30 miles in damp, puky clothes. Yuck.

DD in our bed Sunday and Monday nights and last night from about 3.30 am. DH on settee part of Monday and last night. DD sleeping sitting up for some bizarre reason - tummy ache??

SantasLittleEgypt · 22/12/2004 09:29

oh dear Booza. what the 'eck is it with illnesses this year? its always around christmas too isnt it.

re the milk, my hv told me to use follow on milk. i'm using apitimil3, although i'd like to know, apart from the extra iron, is there any other difference? wondered if i'm doing something i perhaps shouldnt. is there any disadvantage?

kbaby · 22/12/2004 09:47

Were just using first milk also. Like Bozza as dd's having decent protein and iron I didnt see the point.

Bozza hope DD feels better soon and you all get some sleep.

DD's not very well either. Shes still got the chesty cough and yesterday was sick 3 times. Last night though she eat dinner and her milk and kept it all down and she slept the whole night from 8-7 so I know shes not well. Today she had her milk and again was sick. Shes fine in herself though, happy and playful. Ive been making sure she has lots of water and as shes eating food its all a bit strange. Im worrying about her not drinking her milk though. Shes cut down to about 15 ozs er day over the past 2 weeks which was bad enough but its worse now shes throwing it back up.

Warm, Sticky sick, theres nothing quite like it eh!

SantasLittleEgypt · 22/12/2004 12:13

have you stopped bf kbaby?

helsyjinglebellsy · 22/12/2004 23:02

Hello.

Thanks for the advice about milk - going to call HV tomorrow and ask for advice other than the usual "trust your instincts" nonsense I usually get.

Hope you have a nice Christmas Susi and hope all the poorly babies get better in time for Saturday. Shepherds, hope you are feeling better now.

Looks like my milk is going down fast - I'd hoped to be able to do a night and a morning bf for a couple of months, but as soon as she started getting a bottle more than once a day (and at first it was only three/four ounces) my milk seemed to disappear. I blame starting back work.

Dd is not really having much food (three-quarters of a jar, three meals a day), so I'm concerned about protein intake and may go for follow-on milk. She starts nursery in Jan and went for visits yesterday and today with DH - played and didn't cry even when left, apparently .

Bit panicky as I went for a blood test today - Dr thinks I have IBS but wants to rule out any nasties - should have results on Christmas Eve - oh goody.

Apparently, the Animal Hospital plane I ordered from Amazon for dd1 as a last minute extra probably won't arrive until AFTER Christmas although I'm sure I saw 22nd - 24th when I ordered - luckily it's her birthday early in Jan and she's got enough stuff anyway.

ChristmasBOOZA · 23/12/2004 08:50

Helsy how can you tell your milk is going down so fast? I've been breastfeeding just morning and night (oh and sometimes middle of the night!) for two months now. And I never really feel very full but I'm sure DD is getting some. Went on a night out and didn't give her the bedtime feed and I did feel the difference then. I know everyone is different but just wondered. And good luck with the tests.

DD still not quite herself but a lot better. Spent the whole night in her cot apart from two marathon breast feeding sessions. Think she's perhaps making up for the last few days.

Its my last day at work today so might post some more when I'm feeling jolly this afternoon.

TheHollyAndTheTwiglett · 23/12/2004 08:59

Hello All

Merry Christmas to all babes (mummies and little 'uns) and partners too

Am signing off in a wee while for christmas break (unless of course I sneak on to a relative's PC whilst away ...highly likely IMHO )

Have a good one

Here's to the First Christmas and Second Year our babies are here

SantasLittleEgypt · 23/12/2004 10:59

good luck with the blood test helsy. my boobs have gone considerably more flat since not been bf as much but can def tell when she does a good stretch at night, they still engorge somewhat. yours have probably just settled into their perfect supply/demand mode as you're on a pretty good routine. whereas i am all over the place!

dd very snuffly STILL. convinced must be her teeth as she's 'ok in herself' really.

my mum is coming up when we go to prague to look after dd. still not entirely convinced that is what will happen, but we'll see. unfortunately her nights have been a bit bad just lately, so gotta try and settle that a bit first. my mum is coming on her own and i dont want her too knackered. was up at 10, 130, 6 - didnt go back to sleep. went back to bed at 830 - both of us!

spose that isnt too bad but she SHOULDNT BE WAKING AT ALLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!! my fault, have just got into habit of just bf her again.
poor dd. she'll have a tough time of it if i dont try and stop that when i do go away.

merry chrimble twiglett. have a good 'un

Judd · 23/12/2004 14:05

Merry Christmas everybody! Still got a wheezy, phlegmy DS here so our nights haven't been too great. Relatives arrive on Christmas Eve and I am hoping against hope that he will be settled by then. Mind you, I phoned my friend and her 3 month old is in hospital with a bronchial infection, being fed intravenously and may not be out in time for Christmas. Kicked me into touch with my whingeing about being woken in the night .
Bozza - I used to love working in the run up to Christmas (pre children). We had an open plan office with Christmas music, loads of chocolate and wound down gently over a good 5 days! Aaaah, and here I now am, sitting in my lounge and agreeing with DD that the Teletubbies windmill does indeed go "round and round and round and round".
Merry Christmas everybody and may all your babies' prezzies be noisy ones
Ooooh - took DS to HV to be weighed. He now weighs more than my 3 year old Please tell me that he will slim down when he's crawling!!!

ChristmasBOOZA · 23/12/2004 14:15

I'm sure he will slim down Judd. Perversely I wish DD would put a bit of weight on to save my arms. Need to get her out of the baby seat because it is so hard to carry her in it. Normally I just leave it in the car but at nursery DH drops off and I pick up so have to carry the whole lot, various assorted bags, drag DS along and deal with all the fancy door mechanisms to prevent kids escaping.

Most people are working tomorrow and get the chance to go to the pub and then slope off mid-afternoon. So think I might sneak away 15 minutes early today.....

SantasLittleEgypt · 23/12/2004 14:37

ooo the benefits of working

jinglespots · 23/12/2004 19:29

So windy here. Not a white christmas, a whistling one.

DD suddenly played peekaboo with a muslin today, really taking me aback because it was as if sh e suddenly spoke out loud. She did it over and over again so not just a fluke or my delusions... Totally understood the cues and everything. where is she...? ... There she is! tho she couldn't quite bring herself to pause for effect in the middle. Very very sweet. Lawks a lordy makes me realise these little humans are actually listening to everything we say!

Egypt is your dad all ok for xmas?

Helsy hope the blood test stuff goes ok, didn't know you were having a bad time with your health {{}}

Twiglett and family, merry merry times to you too.

SantasLittleEgypt · 23/12/2004 20:22

gawd, its taken me ages to get down to 'add a message'. dh is downloaded music again and its slowed the pc right down.

spots, she sounds like a clever little girl to me. thats brilliant!!!!! its scary that they can understand you yes. very. how are you doing on the nights? i keep meaning to ask. i;m sure you mention it in your posts. are you still giving a little water?

tonight dd wouldnt take a bottle from me or dh. she was so v v v tired. she screamed and screamed so i just bf her. she fell asleep almost immediately on the boob. woke about an hour later and once again wouldnt take a bottle. dont think i can leave her if she's like this. she'll have to come to prague with us. my bf will just have to disown me.

i'll try again in the night when she wakes and really is hungry.....well peckish!

my dad is feelingmuch better thanks. he must be as he was down the pub when i rang this afternoon! with his work mates. christmas drinks i expect. he is still off work until the new year and he is still recovering. pretty tired all the time. but much better thanks

helsyjinglebellsy · 23/12/2004 23:31

Evening. Had a quiet day today with both Dds (Dd1 is nearly 5, dd2 7months, obviously). Got very little done. We're going pinching holly and then making mince pies tomorrow - oh, and "icing" a ready-iced cake (just means sticking a santa and a tree on top).

Thanks for health wishes - Dr. thinks I've had IBS for a while now but just wants to make sure it's nothing worse (I think that's just routine, still it's scary). If it turns out to be IBS I'll start doing diet stuff like no coffee, stress management and so on.

Went to a Christmas Open House this evening and dressed dd2 in a purple party dress, it was great to hear the cooing from everyone particularly as she is bald so doesn't usually look terribly girly yet, mind you dd1 was the same and she has a lovely mop of unruly curly blonde hair now.
Re: milk going down I just feel "empty", don't get engorged even after six hours, and it feels like she's sucking for ages and not satisfied - you know when they get the big pink cheeks and look all sleepy?
Apparently we're getting snow here (North) tomorrow lunchtime - hoping Dh gets sent home from work early.
