Have just found instructions on how to make a crochet sling ... I have to have a go ... link here

This'll be interesting!

muppetgirl · 11/01/2008 15:42

I can sew and make most things and I have just learned to crochet but I can only do straight lines!!! So I've made loads of blankets and hats and scarves. Patterns frighten me as I don't seem to be able to 'get' them.

Go Ejt on managing 2 shops now you've done that next time you won't feel so anxious and soon it'll be water off a ducks back.

muppetgirl · 11/01/2008 15:50

this has just really freaked me out...

Just put Henry down for a quick nap and I went into his room and his mobile, which I don't use at all as I hate it, was on and going round by itself. The wierder thing is that is was moving without the music -I didn't even know it could do that

I have literally just got back from picking ds1 up from nursery. I carried him in asleep from the car and put him on the sofa. No on else in the house.

Freaky?

alicet · 11/01/2008 16:48

Dal very happy to do the Berwick meet anytime. Tues, Thurs and Fri much the best days for me as Sam is in nursery but if it is better for the rest of you another day I'm sure we'll manage! I think it was you, Stefka, inzi, choc and me. I have choc's email - do you want to give me a shout on alicetownend at doctors dot org dot uk (Inzi and Stefka too!!!) and we can organise it? Oh and I wouldn't worry about Dylan - their weight gain does go up and down a bit I think and as long as he is still on the same centile line he is growing proportionally at the same rate as others so no worries!

Ejt - well done you for managing so well without dh. I know how hard I find it and I think I am in a much better emotional place than you at the mo. Can't believe what a domestic goddess you are too!!!!

Choc didn't look a right scruff the other day either - I had just been complimenting her on how well she looked as I couldn't beleive she was looking so good on so little sleep!!! FANTASTIC news on Rebecca's sleep though!!!! Here's hoping she repeats it soon! At least now you know she can - great news!

Floris can't beleive you are doing a concert tomorrow! How glam! Good luck and hope Alex is OK.

MrsFish sorry to hear about your crap night. Your next post puts it all in perspective though doesn't it - doesn;t mean it's not shit but at least you and your boys are happy and healthy. That poor poor woman and her family. Make sme feel sick to think about it.... And could have been a very similar thing for my sil....

Inzi - we put Adam to bed in his room after his bath. He settles much better than downstairs and sleeps until we wake him for 11 for his feed. We have the same monitor as ejt. We also have one with a sensor mat that seems to not be working in the moses basket - its great if you want the extra reassurance that they are OK and don't want to be checking on them every 5 mins.

Hello everyone else!

So we finally managed to get Adam into his own room last night - he was fine (woke a bit earlier this am but settled into bed with me) and we all slept better as a result! Bonus!

And today I have been and got my haircut so for at least 24 hours I can be a yummy mummy !!!

OK so Adam has woken from his hugabub so off now - might be back later although dh is trying to burn a lot of cds for his ipod so I might be pushed out.... Fair enough since I ususally hog it

Mine · 11/01/2008 16:58

muppetgirl - maybe you have a huge draft in the room..!!!!
Very weird goings on.

Question... did your little darlings have a BCG jab at the hospital when born??

I refused ours.. felt like my ds needed to settle into the real world without being jabbed with a virus as well. Only problem is now my hv and gp nurse is having a fit over it as he's almost 12 weeks old and still not had it.....

Have i made a big mistake....??

muppetgirl · 11/01/2008 17:00

No Mine he didn't have any injections at all.

WinnieThePooh · 11/01/2008 17:12

Mine - the only injection Shula had was vitamin K

AnyasMum07 · 11/01/2008 17:31

Same here - just the vitamin K. Didn't get offered BCG.

MrsFish · 11/01/2008 17:54

I only got offered VitK for Ben too.

Mine · 11/01/2008 18:02

i had Vit k too but they were really pushing for the BCG.

Its even in the little red book.... will have to ask a different hv about this.
Thanks folks.

strawberrylace · 11/01/2008 18:54

Mine - only had vit K as well, but have just looked up the BCG vaccine, and it says babies may be offered it if they are in an area where there's lots of TB. I reckon this is probably the case for London, and that may be why you've been told your LO needs it, and some of us haven't. see this link

Stefka · 11/01/2008 19:45

Just Vit K here too.

That is pretty spooky Muppetgirl!

Well Dareh has a sore tummy again tonight. I swear he hasn't been right since he had his first jab

DH is taking a crying shift at the moment.

ChocolateHobnob · 11/01/2008 19:46

Hello!

Ejt, well done - you seem to be doing better all the time. On the subject of postnatal depression, I can quite see how the professionals miss it. My GP at my six week check didnt even ask how I was. The HV hadnt asked until today and what she asked was 'any depression at all?' in exactly those words (apparently we dont have a questionnaire round here). It was hardly asked in a way to invite a sensible answer. How tragic and horrible and unnecessary (the story Mrs F posted).

Dal, I'm sure Dylan is doing fine if he's on the same centile.

Inzi, how's it going today? did you decide to change Jane's milk?

Strawberry, we dont have a proper routine either - well we try, but lo doesn't respect it!!!

Alice, yummy mummy indeed - did you take Adam with you?! Hurrah for Adam moving into his own room! I've gone the other way and the co-sleeper has arrived - we're not going to use it tonight though as Rebecca had her injections today and don't want to start bed changing today. I am sorry to report the five hours were a one-off - she didnt sleep longer than 1 1/2 hours at a stretch last night, so back to normal - but at least it happened and so could happen again!

Today Rebecca had her injections and she was fine. She cried as they happened but then she was straight away her usual nosy self. The doctor was very amused as Rebecca kept butting in and making her talking noises as the doctor was talking to me. The doctor was lovely, as was the nurse; the HV - not mine, another one - was as gormless as ever. She asked how lo slept and when I said badly, she said if we werent doing controlled crying then we were asking for trouble. She also said at 8 weeks a baby should sleep through the night and if not then we need to change something... I think next time when she asks, 'does she sleep?' I shall say 'oh yes, all night long' and leave...

She's a bit more unsettled this evening - Rebecca not the HV!! - so we shall see how tonight goes. Wish us luck!

And have a good Friday night everyone. Alice- Thursdays would seem to me to be a good day to go to Berwick/York - Fridays the trains are busier but I guess it's okay.

Hugs everyone!

EmMcK · 11/01/2008 20:08

Wow! There has been some posting action in the last couple of days. I don't know if I can catch up! Very impressed by the industrious sewing/crocheting thing, horrified at some of the HV comments, LOL to EJT's vest conundrum - Joseph's nappies are HUGE too, and wasn't keen to read Muppet's spooky mobile action.
Joseph had his BCG yesterday, Vit K at birth. I have also been doing the gentle tummy rubbing and it does produce some spectacular results. Went to baby yoga this week and it was great - thoroughly recommend it.
DH home tomorrow from California and while I am going to be delighted to see him, I have really enjoyed having this time alone with Joseph. All our family live on the other side of the world, so it really has been just me and him, and it has been lovely. He is such a sweet wee boy, I feel like I have fallen in love with him totally. Gush gush...

I can't shift any weight either. I am not super bothered about loosing loads of weight but I would like my belly to not be like a marshmallow.

MrsFish · 11/01/2008 23:34

I can recommend Rosemary Connelly, I started in ernest on Jan 1st and lost 3 pound last week I'm following her GI Hip and thigh diet.

muppetgirl · 12/01/2008 08:48

Is anyone else really struggling to get out of bed in the mornings?
I am a morning person and now feel that I have been drugged as I am so drowsy and sleepy.
Henry slept till 6.15am this morning, but I still feel like shit!

Stefka · 12/01/2008 10:03

Me too Muppetgirl. I could hardly get Dareh dressed this morning I was so tired. Mind you he only did a four hour stretch last night - got me up at four which is not like him. I wonder if he is having a growth spurt or something.

Mine · 12/01/2008 11:37

thank god! I thought i was the only mum having the 'o can;t be bothered' week! I can't seem to motivate myself to do ANYTHING
Have been in my PJs since 8.30... perfect saturday morning at home with ds and dh...bliss.

I too am struggling with my weight... i started weight watchers again in mid Dec.. lost 4lbs, then gained it, then lost it gain, now have been stuck at the same weight. Its really depressing, esp when certain people keep judging me by my baby weight gain. They just all think we have celebrity lifestyles so can afford a personal trainer and nutritionist.

Have to be militant about WW now... have a family wedding in May so must get down to somewhere close to my old weight......

DH is off to work soon.. might go window shopping....

Morning!
Choc - sorry that the 5 hours sleep didn't last, but fingers crossed it will happen again
EmMcK - glad you enjoyed your time alone with Joseph - v brave to get through it without DH i think!
Inzi - hope you can get the milk sorted, and good luck with the diet
Stefka - know what you mean about the marshmallow belly, but i am too lazy to do anything about it! And i like my food too much....
MrsFish - excellent about the 3lbs lost
Muppet - know what you mean about the mornings - had to go back to bed the other day, and yesterday me and olly fell asleep together on the sofa in the afternoon!

He didn't make a sound during his jabs yesterday - only whimpered a bit when the nurse was trying to find where she'd stuck him to put a plaster on. Only adverse reaction seems to have been wanting to feed and sleep a bit more!

Do you guys stop your LO's sleeping if they sleep a lot in the day. Dareh has been asleep for two hours and I am wondering if I should wake him up.

strawberrylace · 12/01/2008 12:27

I only wake DS up if its more than four hours since a feed. I read somewhere that sleeping lots actually helps them to sleep lots! He was very sleepy yesterday after his injections - slept for 2 hours in the afternoon, and two hours in the evening, and then slept 12-8am (waking at 5am cos he';d lost his dummy) - so the sleeping lots in the day theory seemed to work...
