Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
muppetgirl · 10/01/2008 16:05

HI all, Inzi just had a thought...I noticed that Henry took a larger feed than normal last night and when I washed his teats I noticed that the one he used to take the larger feed was th one I put 3 holes in. It was a 0-3months teat that has only one hole but the next stage have 2 holes so I thought what a waste of money buying the 2 holed ones when I could use a needle and poke an extra hole. I did this but had a problem and put 2 holes in hence that teat has 3 holes. Are going to use that teat again tonight for his dream feed.

Is this worth a try? Jane will get more, more quickly.

ejt1764 · 10/01/2008 19:48

OMG ? I?m offline for 2 days, and I?ve over 100 posts to get through!

Anyasmum ? I?m, with you, polar and alice on the weaning too. I have very severe asthma, and suffer from some bloody awful food allergies, so the longer I can put off weaning the better (also may go some way to explain why I?m soooooo stubborn about not giving Mairwen any ff!) Love the idea of the scrapbook!

I?m doing the last class of a baby massage course next week ? it?s been really good for us both ? it helps with Mairwen?s reflux, and it has helped me bond with Mairwen.

Dal ? I feel really that you don?t get on with your parents. However, if your mum is that toxic, then you?re better off out of it, really.

Muppetgirl ? also thinking of you ? another one who?s better off out of it! I suggest that you just leave it at: ?I haven?t seen my mummy for a long time, but here?s a photo of her.? (or something like that!) With Oliver ? I know when Rhydian went through the piecing together of the families (it?s fascinating being able to watch their brains ticking over!), we spent hours talking about the various relationships. And I love your analogy about the cave!
Fab news on your progress with the psychologist too ? go muppet, go muppet!
Thanks too for the support with pnd ? what?s CBT?

Stefka ? the babywhisperer methods do work ? and your hv is talking absolute bollocks! Some HVs need some serious re-training!

Nellie ? Really to hear you?re having problems with your scar ? I?m sure you?d been encouraged to have Madeleine with you in hospital ? especially as you?re bf ? My night-time routine with Mairwen is exactly the same as for all her naps ? except there?s a bath in there too (which dh does!)

Inzi ? so glad to hear about the poo! If Jane is happy, having plenty of wet nappies, and feeding then well, then she may just be finding her level ? it seems absolutely crazy to me that Mairwen has moved up from the 25th to 75th centiles, and everybody is telling me how pleased they are with her, yet Jane has dropped just 1 centile, and you?re getting hassle ? if you are pleased with her progress, then trust your instincts.
They aren?t necessarily sick when they have reflux either ? Mairwen tends not to be very sick, but she has great pain during and after feeds: there?s some useful info about positioning etc here ? just don?t expect your doc to send you for an endoscopy!!

MrsFish ? am very about your outing to the cinema ? and about Ben?s sleeping! Not so about your back, or your stressful outing!

Clu ? Hiya! We?re a chatty bunch (as you can see!) I love the image of you telling your HV you?ve found your lo breakdancing!

FT ? waving madly at you ?

Alice ? we are really lucky to have a real doc on the thread ? you?re a mine of information!

Strawberrylace ? glad the bf book is helping!

Ellensmelons ? the problem with all the advice that they give you about weaning is that very little of it is based on solid science ? so it can only ever be recommendations ?

Choc ? glad that you found a way to get Rebecca to sleep too ? when the reflux was at its worst, I found that the way Mairwen slept best in the day was cwtched in next to me on the bed ? it also has the added bonus of making you rest!
I gave Calpol before Mairwen?s jabs ? and it stopped her getting to the really poorly stage ? the second lot were last week, and hardly fazed her at all ? shows that all children are different ? Rhydian was horrendous after all of his!

J20 ? hope you and the girls are ok ? HVs have to come and visit after a child has been seen in A&E ? just to check that all?s ok with the family as a whole.
Mairwen is a nosy bugger too ? only, when she turns her head to have a nose, she takes my nipple with her [ouch] ? ? have taken to turning off the tv / radio before I get her to latch on, then I sneakily turn it back on again (quietly) when she?s occupied feeding! Fab Christmas pressie for dd1! Your girls are soooo cute! So on your behalf ? second alice that you should report them to the police.

Mine ? don?t stress too much about your baby weight just yet ? it took 9 months for you to get it ? think about taking that long to get it off again. That said, I?m taking myself along to Slimming World next week ? you can do a special adapted form of their plan if you?re bf ? and I?ve lost weight using SW before, so know it works for me!

Our next thread should be something about us being the experts on our babies, and not the bl00dy HCPs! (However, a caveat from me is that my HV is superb ? the one we had when Rhydian was very small was useless though!)

Well news from us ? I survived without DH! and ? [proud mummy emoticon] Rhydian came home from school today and said that he and another girl aregoing to start reading next week ? they?re the first in the class to get to that stage ? am feeling all warm and fuzzy!

Have been to see my GP today ? she wanted to check that I?m tolerating the ADs I?m on ? I?m getting headaches, but am otherwise ok ? DH says that I?m being a little more positive too. I?m still bad about not being able to go out of the house, and I can?t answer the phone in case it?s MiL ? but we?ll get there. I?m very proud that I coped with DH being away since Tuesday ? I?ve even managed washing, breadmaking and muffin baking! Am looking forward to a cuddle with dh tonight ? if Rhydian ever goes to sleep ? he?s missed his daddy, poor love (but it doesn?t stop me from wanting to strangle him for still being awake!)

Speak to you all tomorrow, hopefully!

OMG ejt that was some post. Took me ages to read it.

DP has just tried ti give Shula a bottle of EBM but shw was not having any of it. He will try again later if she wakes, also will ask MIL to try tomorrow as I would like to go out to an Avon meeting on the 30th and not sure if I can take her or not.

strawberrylace · 10/01/2008 21:06

Stefka ? hope that you are having a better night with Dareh tonight
J20 ? how must you be at those people? It?s happened to me before as well, but I didn?t know for ages until I was refused credit for a new phone, and then I had to convince all sorts of debt collection people that it was nothing to do with me. Grrrr
Inzi ? hope you can find some formula to suit Jane. There are so many out there, I don?t know where I?d start! A friend of mine uses Cow&Gate and says her boy poos much better now (was on SMA before I think)
Ejt ? Glad that you have survived the absence of DH, and well done to Rhydian!

I had planned to do all sorts of baby things today, but woke up tired and persuaded DS that we should stay in bed and sleep for an extra couple of hours instead! Then went to see good friend and her 2.5yr old for a long chat on the way to Tescos. Tomorrow Olly is off for his second set of jabs ? calpol is on standby!

Hope you are all ok?

muppetgirl · 10/01/2008 21:06

HI Ejt - CBT is congitive behavioural Therapy. Basically it teaches you to challenge what youa re feeling, think about thoughts and how the feelings/thought effect your behaviour. If you can change the feelings/thoughts you can change behaviour.

have a look here for more info.

muppetgirl · 10/01/2008 21:13

My main symptoms of my depression were
~Anxiety
~Irrational thoughts
~Not sleeping, not being able to switch off at night
~Weight lose
~The most intense rage/anger that I have ever felt or since.
~Not bonding with Ollie
~Avoidence of any new situations of social situations, avoiding my friends (fear of letting them down)

The cbt enabled me to talk through fears, my fears of 'turning in to my mother'
(eh Dal - don't we all dread that?) addressing events of the past. Having Ollie kind of opened up Pandora's box for me.

ChocolateHobnob · 10/01/2008 21:14

Hi all - you are all so chatty!

Ejt, well done for coping on your own. And making bread in the middle of it all! You sound so sorted and so caring!

Mine, my baby book says forget weighing yourself nonstop and just try judging your weight from your clothes for the first few months - enjoy your baby. I have to say even if I was thinner now I'd still be Madame Scruff - I went to meet Alice the other day with unwashed rain-drenched hair and looked a right fright!

Alice, are your parents here now ready for Operation Move Adam into his own room? Good luck!

Inzi, so sorry about the weight thing and the jabs. Please tell me Jane recovered quickly - Rebecca has hers tomorrow. I'm dreading it.

Mrs F, how is your diet going? What a stress about forgetting the bottle. Sort of thing I would do and one reason why I bf - I'm too dippy to manage bottles.

Muppet, so glad you've come so far. A lot of my friends have had cognitive behavioural therapy and rate it highly.

OK, so we had a great night last night! The usual epic performance getting lo to sleep, but once she was asleep she stayed so for - drumroll - FIVE HOURS!!! Minor miracle. I had just about lost it to be honest with trying to get her to sleep - it was as though she realized I was at the end of my tether and threw me a lifebelt. I feel so good today!

About the injections - did anyone BF their lo during them? My book suggests it helps...

Hugs to all!

muppetgirl · 10/01/2008 21:17

5 hrs Choc, you must be so relieved!!!
She can do it once she can do it again!

Ejt - Sorry, forgot to say well done for managing without DH. You've done something not everyone with children can -be proud of yourself, we all are

strawberrylace · 10/01/2008 21:37

Choc - hoorah to the five hours sleep! am keeping my fingers crossed for you tonight. I've read about bf while they have the injections, but it is over so quickly that I'd barely have time to get a bap out for DS to latch on to! When I went last time I made sure he was fed shortly before I went out, and he didn't seem to get too distressed. Most embarrassing thing was him doing a mahoosive poo just beforehand, all up his back and over his clothes, so I had to completely change him there in front of the nurse before she could do anything

muppetgirl · 10/01/2008 21:44

I had to cancel my six week check as I was with MIL before Christmas (Dh's gran dying) they phoned me back with a new app (you don't get to choose at my Drs) for 28th Jan!! Henry will be 12 weeks by then. Also, I can't book him in for jabs until he has his 6 weeks check so he won't start his jabs until 13-14 weeks?? This is not good I feel.

Dalrymps · 10/01/2008 22:06

What do you all think to this... got ds weighed yesterday, he's been putting on between 6 and 9 oz a week, anyway i hadn't had him weighed for 3 weeks cause of xmas and he's only put on 7 and a half oz in 3 weeks! lady at clinic says it's fine as he's still on the 9th centile which is what he was on when he was born... he's been eating fine, no different to usual, he's definately grown longer in last 3 weeks cause he's grown out of some of his outfits. He's just a wee little man, you think i should be concerned? is his weight gain supposed to slow down?

OP posts:
FloriaTosca · 10/01/2008 23:00

Muppet; I had to delay my 6 week check too (as I got my first AF)but they still did Alexs 8 week check and 1st jabs at the correct times..I thought they needed to get them done at the right time to check reflexes etc...I'd give your surgery a bell and double check that they have got it right

Thanks Alice for the link to marshal ward...sadly I didnt manage to get on here yesterday and so missed out..little woods were sold out too... all of you who got them!

Tried Alex on baby rice today..he didnt like it so we'll leave it a few more weeks...actually only did it because my Mum was pressurising me because I've got a concert on Saturday and we are not sure how to handle the feeding situation because Alex refuses to take a bottle at all...I think if Dh drives us to the venue and I feed Alex before the 6pm rehearsal he should be ok until Dh picks me up at 10pm and if he is truly starving he will have the option of a bottle of EBM

crikey its 11pm...I need to go to bed...
nitenite all

Hi Inzi - Ben sleeps approx 2-3 hours during the day but only in half hour slots. 2 days ago he only had one and a half hours all day

Yesterday he had his most formula so far, 35 and a half ounces in 24 hours, he has now started waking up between 4-5am again, I'm gutted. Last night I tried giving him a bottle of the follow on milk after a suggestion from the HV, he actually stayed awake to have the full 7oz so I was hopeful he would sleep through... no such luck, had my worst night in a long time. Went to bed at 11pm, was woken at 1am and 1.30 as DH had two text messages which is unheard of, and his phone is on the chest of drawers so very loud. Then Sam woke me at 3am as he wanted a wee, just settled him and Ben woke up, so settle him. Got back in bed, was woken at 4am by Ben (stuck his dummy in) then again at 5.10am so I got him a bottle ready but he had dozed off again, so I went back to bed again and he woke up at 6am, by which time I have given up trying to sleep and come downstairs.

And even though I went to the chiropractors again yesterday and had my vertebrae popped back in again I still had an uncomfortable sleep (when I slept that is) :irked:

MrsFish · 11/01/2008 07:07

OMG - just seen something really upsetting on the news. A woman who gave birth to twin girls 2 weeks ago has killed herself by walking across the M3 in her nightdress, hit by several cars. Family say PND wasn't diagnosed, they are in complete shock. Makes me really sad, those poor, poor girls and the fact this woman must have been really low over the past two weeks and no-one knew
