I'm with your mum inzi. If she is happy then she is getting enough. Sometimes Adam takes 6oz in one go, sometimes just a couple. 3-4oz is probably about average for him so at 6 feeds x 4oz he is only getting 24oz in 24 hrs. This is 6 less than he should but to be honest I don't care as he is happy and well. I know she has dropped off the centile charts but she was ENORMOUS when she was born!!! Maybe 75th is where she should be - birth weight is really only a reflection on your pregnancy rather than their potential so maybe you are just a fantastic incubator!!!! (this time anyway )

AnyasMum07 · 09/01/2008 14:44

Alicet - can you give me your email address? Saves me searching previous posts.

Anya still asleep - 4 hours - and it's not as though she had a bad night. Poor thing -must be sleeping until she feels better. Oh well, quiet day for me. Why do I get less done when I have more time??

Was feeding Anya on Monday on her 3-month-birthday thinking "wow, 3 months - that's gone fast but she's changed so much - why, at 2 months she was...." No idea. Could not remember what we were doing with her a month ago. Then I realised I'm going to forget so much of this time, and as she's not going to remember it either it's going to be lost. So have bought a big thick notebook and have started keeping a diary/scrapbook full of daft things each day like what toys she's played with and what noises she's made as well as how her feeding and sleeping are going, plus I'm going to put in photos and other bits and pieces. I thought that would be a nice keepsake for her later and it's something for me to hang on to as well so that I miss this baby-time less.

alicet · 09/01/2008 14:46

anyasmum its alicetownend at doctors dot org dot uk.

Thats a lovely idea about the scrapbook. With Sam I kept a book where I wrote stuff like this - not every day just certain things he really liked. Haven't for ages though and the book I bought for Adam is still empty! Must sit down one evening and write in them rather than always chatting on here!!!!

AnyasMum07 · 09/01/2008 14:49

Inzi - if Jane's happy playing with the bottle I wouldn't worry - she's obviously just not hungry. The trouble we had was when Anya was hungry but wouldn't feed. Plus Jane's a big baby - she can afford to drop some percentiles without any ill effects - agree with alicet, she's probably just settling down to a weight level she's comfortable with. As long as she looks healthy and well and happy and she's not stressed when feeding then I don't think there's anything to worry about.

Stefka · 09/01/2008 14:50

OMG Dareh will not take a nap - I am going insane! Please go to sleep!

AnyasMum07 · 09/01/2008 14:55

alice - have emailed you.

Stefka · 09/01/2008 15:07

Hey Alice I tried to use that code but it says that I have not met the requirements for it. Do you know why? I missed out on the first one - trying to get the second.

MrsFish · 09/01/2008 17:09

Ben has only slept twice today, an hour this morning and 20 mins this afternoon

alicet · 09/01/2008 17:20

Stefka I presume you have to order over a certain value - when i just tried to order one it wouldn't let me. Try adding something else.

Anyasmum got your mail thanks! Will keep you posted....

Wish me luck in bathing / bedding both on my own! Even though the rest of you probably do this all the time!

Cheers inzi!

Stick her in the hugabub then she gets to be on your chest and you can pee and eat

Stefka · 09/01/2008 18:01

Thanks Alice - I just bought two. One for Dareh and one for his cousin so that's Christmas sorted! Sad I missed out on the other one - such a good deal!

Hi all!

Inzi - I was told by a HV (but we all know what we think of them!) that some people are just very good at growing babies but this doesn;t reflect on what children'adults they become (just like Alice said) Oliver was born on the 75th percentile but then dropped at 12 weeks and never got back there. My 1st HV was going to refer him to a paedeatrician (sp??) but for no concrete reason other than he wasn't on his line. The last HV I saw asked if he moved a lot -ooh, boy yes, even in his sleep -did he eat well, yes -was I happy with his growth, yes though he's never had a large waist, just long legs. She said she didn't have a problem as he was very active and that explained it. He's been the same ever since.
You had something on a par to a baby elephant for a baby, you are fab at the growing stage, maybe Jane just wasn't meant to be a big girl.
Henry was big and I am keeping a close eye on his percentile (91st) especially at 12 weeks when Oliver dropped off. If they start harping on about Paedeatricians (it's that word again, sp??) I shall nod and smile......nod and smile.... and then politely say that I am not worried as his brother did the same thing.

Well, made rice pudding using St. Delia's receipe. Was enough to freeze a batch too. Oliver wanted pancakes for tea so I made a batch for him and some extra for the freezer as we have them on Sundays quite a bit.

Henry has just had 7ozs from Daddy the first time ever. I think he is definately going through a growth spurt.

alicet · 09/01/2008 19:44

Stefka same friend told me they have the same one on littlewoods and they do the same deal! Don't know if the discount will work but it's still a pretty good deal!

Well hate to jinx things but bath / bed went great. Sam was really fab - played happily in the bath while I gave Adam his milk (and before that both boys were lovely in the bath - smiling at each other!) and then I put Adam in his Moses basket with his night light / music thing on while I got Sam dried and into his jammies. Then gave Adam more milk and got him off to sleep while Sam played - he came into our room a couple of times but was really happy to play on his own. Once Adam was asleep I played with Sam then made a big thing about reading him an extra story as he had been so good. Adam shouted while I was settling Sam so I went in to give him a dummy - Sam was fine with this too as I explained to him what I was up to. And now they're both quiet - completely as normal!!!!

So now clearly I'll get lulled into a false sense of security that I am super mum and fall flat on my face !!!! Off to cook tea now and tidy the house before dh gets in. Will pour myself a big glass of wine too!!!

Inzi hope Jane settles OK honey - Adam was unsettled for 3 days after first set of jabs but fine after second. Just keep her dosed up on Calpol!

muppetgirl · 09/01/2008 20:30

Well done Alice! It is an achievement to do bath and bed with 2 boys by yourself

alicet · 09/01/2008 20:51

Are you being sarky muppet?!?!?! OK so I'll take it from you who does this every night!!

strawberrylace · 09/01/2008 21:10

Evening everyone ? hope you have all had good days ? we have been out visiting a work friend and Olly?s nana
Clu ? welcome to the MN October club ? I was a late joiner and made to feel very welcome
Inzi ? agree with others that this may just be Jane finding her right weight. I know I can get quite obsessed about those weight charts, but babies can?t read them so they obviously don?t understand how important it is to us mummies that they follow the right lines!
Stefka ? to Dareh's long sleep - I?m sure that if he wanted to be awake, or wanted feeding, he would soon let you know. I have only come across nice HVs so far, so I am feeling v lucky?
Muppet ? in my cave I am on MN, DS is watching tv lying on a beanbag, and DH is off foraging for some chips from the nearby chip shop?.
Anyasmum ? love the idea for a scrapbook
Alicet ? you are indeed a supermum ? mainly for suggesting that breastfeeding book ? have just got my copy from the library and its great ? wish I?d had it sooner so I am going to take it to show a friend who?s 37 weeks pregnant

Stefka · 09/01/2008 21:18

Well Dareh has gone from one extreme to another. He will not sleep. He has had two half hour naps today and we can't get him to go to bed. Every time I feed him he cries with a sore tummy. Then after that settles he is so tired he won't sleep. Then it's time to feed again and it all starts again. I have handed him over to DH for a break as I can't cope. I haven't had any time to do anything all day. I am pretty fed up.

How you lot who have two cope I just don't know.

ellensmelons · 09/01/2008 21:22

Evening all. Had the 'weaning' talk at post natal group today. So vague! It was all recommendations BUT this that and the other. Basically, take the lead from your baby. Hm not rocket science then!

Alicet - really don't know how you manage 2. Finding one challeging enough! DD's height measured today, and that's jumped to the top curve!! Something like the 99.9999recurring %ile!!!! LOL. That may account for the jump in weight then!

I didn't dreamfeed her last night, felt really bad cos thought i was depriving her of a feed. So gave her usual 9oz at 6.30. She woke at 5am(?) but soothed her to sleep and she then woke at 7am, really calmly and didn't seem to be starving hungry! She's also started to coo to herself today for the first time - it's like she's found a fab new toy. She's so funny! Have cried lots today she's such a gorgeous little(ish) star.

Seems everyone thinks the same of HVs. Talk about spin!

muppetgirl · 09/01/2008 21:36

Alice - NOT AT ALL!!! I think your fab for coping. It's bloody hard work with 2 and yes, I can bath them at the same time but I can't get them to go to bed at the same time as Henry just goes into meltdown the last few days.. I wonder if it's the slow switch to formula that's doing it?

Read story this evening put Ollie to bed then Henry, 30 secs later both boys crying...

Bed times are hard!!!!

ChocolateHobnob · 09/01/2008 21:44

Hi all

well done Alice! Your boys are so good and you are indeed a fab mummy for coping. I couldn't manage two...

Stefka, commiserations. Rebecca resists sleep too (she's never done an 11 hour stint though! or even half that ).

Inzi, Rebecca's jabs are on Friday. Did you give Jane Calpol beforehand? I echo what other people have said about weight. My friend's son was smallish born (7 pounds or so) and has jumped up the centiles exponentially, and the HV says he's fulfilling his genetic potential (or some other such crap). The same could be said of Jane in reverse...

Dal, sorry about your mother, and Muppet, ditto. I'm glad though you've both had the strength to leave the past and create wonderful new families of your own.

Anyasmum, I've been writing a diary with Rebecca, only I hardly get chance to write...

Well, Rebecca's sleep refusing continues - after a good day of napping yesterday and a relatively good night's sleep (ok not good compared to you lot but good for her and me!) she has resisted sleep today. Even frogmarching her in the pram failed. She refused the Hugabub. One thing succeeded - she and I lying in our bed wrapped up together with my arms woven round her and her hands on my face. V sweet... Soo... Alice lent me the most fantastic book about sleep and I've decided she's a needy baby who has started to associate sleep with difficulty and so needs more reassurance than in the waking time... so I've ordered an Arm's Reach co-sleeper to see if it helps (I dont really want her in our bed, but this is a cot attached to the bed, so next best thing). Watch this space!

Hugs to everyone else.

clu · 09/01/2008 22:04

hi all thanks for the welcomes and waves to the scottish mummies. Had 1st jags today , poor wee lamb woke up in the HV quite happy and then the scream that came out her mouth made my hear break. She fell asleep for a while but now is very unsettled.

Did find a good thing, you maybe all know about, the minor ailment scheme. You can sign up at the chemist and get certain medicines free so I got her liquid paracetemol free which was good. DF put the syringe in her mouth, didnt realise the force and it came shooting back out.

My HV is ok but she has two children apparently and whatever I say about Lily one of hers experienced it, lily was very small when born and could not be bothered eating, so was hers etc. Im thinking of telling her I found Lily breakdancing in her cot next to see what she says.
