Hello all!

Well as far as the weaning goes I'm going to leave it till 6 months unless Adam seems to need it. I was really excited with Sam and desperately wanted to start as I love my food and really wanted him to too!!! Managed to wait till nearly 6 months though. Apart from everything its so so much easier not to have to worry about bringing their food everywhere - tbh formula is enough hassle! And it doesn't always follow that they sleep better then either - I have several friends who weaned early for this reason only to find their lo more unsettled and sleeping worse... Not dissing those who want to wean early - you clearly have to watch your own baby and take it from there. And I will change my mind if necessary but will hold out as long as poss! Looks like I will be in the minority !

Sounds like there is a fair bit of interest in a Northern meet up too! Would those who are interested email me - alicetownend at doctors dot org dot uk for those who haven't already got it. And include times you can't make - plans to go away and regular weekdays you are busy. Then I'll try and sort something out soon and mail you all...

Tired tonight for no good reason really so off to bed now. EmMcK I'm home alone tomorrow too as dh is in London with work. I have a friend coming to help with bath and bed but will be flying solo for the first bath / bedtime on Wed night as dh isn't back until after 8 and I've used up all my favours with friends! Wish me luck!!!

Meant to say to buffy that Sam loved the Cow and Gate Creamed porridge - he hated baby rice with a passion! Maybe worth trying this with Scarlette if you want a cereal type thing?

alicet · 07/01/2008 20:45

Oh and I also think your hv is talking out of their arse ellensmelons! Mine said its totally normal for babies to still wake for feeds during the night until about 6 months and that if they're still waking after that it could be habit but until then if they wake hungry they need feeding...

WinnieThePooh · 07/01/2008 21:32

Hi all,

I think we are in for a disturbed night tonight. i took Shula to be weighed today (11lb 1z) and asked the HV about her jabs. They said as long as she did not have a temperature it would be ok. She screamed when the nurse gave her the injections but soon settled with a feed in the waiting room. She is asleep at the moment, but is very unsettled. Hopefully she will sleep through.

Ellonsmellons - whereabouts are you? I am north Birmingham in Sutton Coldfield, perhaps we could meet up in the city centre for a coffee.

strawberrylace · 07/01/2008 22:20

Evening everyone
Glad to know that everyone else's baby is dribbly and chewing on their hands! Olly has been doing this for the last two or three weeks. He makes everything soggy - including a mad newt toy that he got for Xmas.
You all have such big babies! Olly was 13lb at 13 weeks, he is long and thin, though getting a bit chubbier. BF is feeling a bit better, so hopefully the stuff from the doc and me using loads of lansinoh and the nipple shields is having a positive effect. Don't want to speak too soon though. I can't see us weaning particularly early at the moment, as he seems quite content with his mummy milk - though he was fascinated by the banana and yoghurt i was eating for breakfast today - think he would've had his fingers in the bowl given half a chance.
Muppet - not got much planned in feb yet - would prefer to meet towards the end of the month tho to give me a chance to get Olly used to the sling - don't think i want to take my mahoosive pushchair into London! what were you thinking of?
Oh, and hello to Mine!

muppetgirl · 08/01/2008 07:39

Hi all,

We are just eating breakfast and going to get ready for school

WWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I have been looking forward to the return to school

PolarMummy · 08/01/2008 08:14

Hello all, can't believe so many of you are weaning / thinking of weaning I haven't even started to think about it! Alice I think I will be with you and holding out till as close to 6 months as possible as I don't think Zoe would be ready for solids yet, she seems contented on mummy milk for the time being (although watch this space as she could turn into a hungry monkey!)

very at all these meet ups! You will have to take lots of pics and post them on your profiles for me

Winnie hope you had a good night last night and that Shula settled for you.

Well we had a good night last night, fed at 7pm with about an extra ounce at 8.15 (as I was out and Zoe didn't feed from me) asleep by 9.45pm and is currently still asleep! She started stirring at 7am so I got up to get myself organised! Could have had another lovely hours sleep! Oh well, better go and have my shower before she gets up.

Hope you all have a good day

WinnieThePooh · 08/01/2008 10:19

Morning Everyone.

Well, Shula slept from 10.30 until 4.45.

I did not sleep very well as she kept making little noises as though she could wake at any minute. After her feed at 4.45am she was wide awake, soI brought her downstairs. DD1 came trotting down at 5.15am. I tried to get her to go back to bed, but she wanted to stay by Shula.

After changing and feeding Shula at 6.30am I put her back in her Amby as she was sound asleep. DD1 and I went into my bed. We finally got up at 7.30, she came down stairs while I had a shower and got dressed. She is now at school, so it is just Shula and me. She is feding at the moment. When she has finished I will change her nappy any pit het in the baby bouncer while I get on with some housework.

I hope you all have a good day.

ellensmelons · 08/01/2008 10:33

Morning! A good night's sleep was had, but i did give her a dream feed at 11ish. I spoke to dh when he got in from work and we decided that she obviously needs a feed between 7 and 7, she wakes up starving as it is! So it might as well be just before we go to bed so that she doesn't wake us in the middle of the night. Am going to look into the SMA white thing today. Meeting a friend in touchwood for shopping and lunch.

WinnieTP- i'm in solihull so could meet in the city! haven't yet ventured into brum yet tho, and rarely went in at all before the lo came along. Still, we're up for anything...

Mine · 08/01/2008 10:33

morning all.... meet ups sound exciting.
I'm based in north london, will there be a local meet up at all or are you all mostly based outside of london???

Looks like my ds cradle cap is starting to clear, basting his head in olive oil defo did the trick for now. God it can be unsightly!

I'm going to buy a cotbed for the little monster today, saw on on sale in toysrus. Its so hard to ensure you make the right decision on cotbeds and their mattresses.. they are so much more expensive than i thought. Almost the same price as an adult bed, but i guess he'll be sleeping in it until he's about 5 yrs old, unless he grows out of that sooner than expected like the moses basket.

Any top tips welcome!

Dalrymps · 08/01/2008 10:34

hey everyone just quick note to say would definately be up for a meet in berwick for the northern/scottish ladies, might be able to make york too, i'm from that neck of the woods originally anyway so know it quite well.
got bored of my ziko buggy so ordered a quinny, so excited, should arrive tomorrow, anyone else got one? Hi to mine and a warm welcome! so nice to hear from you buffy hang in there with the pnd, can only get better from here now you're on the ad's .
On the subject of weaning i'm gonna try hold out till the 6 months but will see how ds goes, he's only wee and still only take 4-5oz a feed so don't think it'll be any time soon...
Gotta go to town to pick up my inhaler from the docs now, be back later - hopefully.

Stefka · 08/01/2008 10:44

I would be up for a meet - I am Scotland.

Had a better night last night - he went down at half six, woke for an hour at nine then slept till half seven! I feel so much better when I can actually get some rest.

He fell asleep in front of the washing machine - I can't get my washing out now!

WinnieThePooh · 08/01/2008 10:49

EM (and anyone else that wants to meet in Birmingham) email me on jan reid 2003 @ yahoo.co.uk (without spaces obviously).

muppetgirl · 08/01/2008 10:55

Hi mine

I'm up for a meet up in London, so is Strawberry and Les also. I suggested some time in Feb and Strawberry thinks towards the end of the month.

How would that suit you?

Henry had boob at 3.50 this morning so that's a step forward, just wonder if it will happen again he fed again 7.30 as he woke up absolutely distraught (really unlike him) Dh found he had got his leg stuck in the crib bars. Poor love, he needed mummy milk to calm down

He had his bottle at 9 when we got back from taking Ollie to school and he had 5 1/2 ozs so he's doing well with the old formula too.

Getting him weighed later so are really interested in how much he's put on as it's been 3 weeks. Have managed to tidy our bedroom and the boys bedroom, kitchen and even the outside of the cooker! Going to attack the playroom now as it's still messy from Ollie and his friend...

Mine · 08/01/2008 11:14

end of feb sounds fine by me. If you want to email me about details i'm on [email protected]

very excited... as you cn tell i don't get out much!!

my little mite has just fallen asleep in front of the washing machine too..... weird child. You sp[end all that money on a nice moses basket and mobiles etc.. and all he wants to do is sleep in front of the washing machine in his little chair

muppetgirl · 08/01/2008 11:34

I do that too, Stcik Henry by the utility room as he can get double whammied (sp?) by the tumble dryer and the washing machine.

Though saying that I am making a real effort NOT to use the tumble dryer because we had a stonking gas/electricity bill just before Christmas. April-Dec so 9 months (whatever happened to quarterly??) Was just over £500 this strikes me as a little too much. I am now feversishly turing off lights, not using the tumble dryer and turning off my computer over night.

Mine - will email you with possible meet up ideas -just as soon as I've thought of some!!

Les/Strawberyy my email is [email protected]

many apologies for the horrendous spelling in that last post!

FloriaTosca · 08/01/2008 12:04

Hi All

Alice;I'm really looking forward to a Northern meet up...sounds like York is do-able for choc, dalrymps, and mrs f which would be bliss for me as I love that city (fond early courtship memories of a romantic weekend with my now dh )I'll mail you Alice if you don't mind doing the organising.

Buffy; you wont get mood swings on citalopram, you don't get terribly jolly but you don't want to drive off the edge of a high level bridge either(yes, I'm afraid that is how I was behaving)...altogether a much healthier mind set on the pills. I came off them after 3 months because we decided to try to conceive again (hence Alex) and found the transition back quite easy, just a few low moments... keep hanging in there, it will get better very soon.

I was going to have whinge about dh phoning 30 mins ago to say he's got to go to Italy on the 5pm flight tonight, when he's supposed to be here this week... but I'm just being wet...and my little lord is stirring... c u later

The hug a bub that is

Mine · 08/01/2008 13:21

inzidoodle - have you tried adding a 1/4 teaspoon of sugar to her warm water..?

My nan suggested it to me for my ds and it did work. He had a dirty nappy the next day.

Hi all,

Inzi- have just over heard HV talking to another mum at the weigh in and she said SMA can make babies constipated as it is thicker and harder to digest. She said that Aptimil is easier...Is Jane on SMA?
Wish I'd known that with Ollie as he was very colicky. (SP?) I never realised that you could change milk -why I thought this I'll never know!

Well, my fat knacker is still pilling on the weight he's 15lb 1oz at 9 weeks. So that's why the 3-6 month clothes don't fit him then...
His new eye drops seem a lot better as it is more of a cream and I only have to put 1 drop in so you never know this may help...

Off for 10 min sit down with a cup of tea before picking Ollie up from nursery
speak later
x
