Dal - It may just be because he has 'found' his hands. Ben has been sucking and chewing his far more often now he has realised that his hands are a part of him. I keep finding him studying them intently and then shoving them in his mouth

Dalrymps · 28/12/2007 21:13

mrsfish- thought it could be that, hope he stops choking himself with them though!

Hi All,

It's too late to wish you Happy Christmases, so maybe Seasons Greetings will have to do! Hopy you're all making the most of the festive season. Christmas here was good. My family came to us - largely because Dh refuses point blank to spend it at my parents' place because my parents have been known to be horrid to him and also becuase my mother tutted when he opened a bottle of wine last year before the allotted wine-opening time ... Anyway, this year there was no tutting and there was wine a-plenty and I cooked (although i say so myself) a splendid turkey dinner, with many trimmings and a vegetarian option (am still feeling sense of triumph that the roast potatoes were good and everything was ready on time )! Huw was a dream boy all day. He's still sleeping at least six and often eight hours a night so we're still mighty pleased with him .

I haven't tried to catch up on the thread yet, but did notice that you're off to the dreaded in-laws ejt, so good luck with that! And hope you're ok inzi.

Huw has his hands in his mouth all the time too. He's also dribbling sometihng rotten at the moment.

I have a breast-fed baby poo related question - Huw hasn't done a poo for four days now - is this within the bounds of normality? I think it probably is, but would appreciate others' experience. Plus, he's gone from piccalilly style bright yellow poos to pea soup green ones (sorry if TMI) - once again, is this somehting to worry about do you think? He seems perfectly happy.

We're off to St Davids in west Wales for New Year with some friends of mine from college and some friends of theirs. There'll be three babies there, and a three year old. Should be fun!! We're even going to attempt eating out! Wish us luck!!

Ok - that's it from me for now. I've been missing you all!

Take care,

Alison x

alicet · 29/12/2007 09:35

Hi Apricott - been a while so grea tto hear you're doing so well! Have to say I have heard bf babies can go a week without a poo so what you describe sounds fine.

Ejt - good luck honey - thinking of you and fingers crossed your dh sticks up for you x

Inzi hope the bleeding has settled

MrsFish sounds like you had an eventful Christmas! Have you got a mirena coil? If so your periods should get lighter and maybe even stop rather than heavier although you can get erratic bleeding for first few months.

Anyway we're about to go out and both boys demanding my attention so will have to go now - be back on later. Hello everyone else!

xxx

MrsFish · 29/12/2007 09:43

Hi alicet - yes it is a mirena coil, the one with hormones. That is good to know about the periods getting lighter

Ds is on to his 6th day of potty training and it is going fantastically well. He woke up this morning at 8am and said he wanted a wee straight away, dh sorted him out and said that his night nappy was bone dry I'm well impressed and happy Next stage today is to try and get him to use the big toilet, wish me luck

Stefka · 29/12/2007 10:24

Hey Alice - My DS went three days without a poo. He then did a lot! I don't kn ow about the colour issue though.

I had a great night. Managed to get Dareh to sleep before 2am! In fact he went to sleep at half eleven and did not get up till half eight! I had swaddled him so I think that helped.

I bought a couple of mothercare nursing bras and they are so uncomfortable! I am pissed off because I will have to keep using them as they were twenty five quid and we are poor.

Hope you all had a good night.

ChocolateHobnob · 29/12/2007 10:42

Hi all

Long time no speak - it's just been mad! But am thinking of you Ejt and Inzi. Ejt, I understand exactly how you feel re your inlaws; my relationship with mine is difficult too. Inzi, that sounds HORRIBLE and I hope you've stopped bleeding now!

Everyone else - am of everyone with babies sleeping through the night!

Our Christmas was a bit stressful to be honest. First my 92 year old grandmother had a fall and ended up in hospital - she's in there for at least a couple of weeks as things stand. Then there were a lot of people and two large dogs and my usually contented DD was not content at all! She was hot and bothered and got a rash on her neck, so we called NHS direct who talked us through a million questions and ultimately decided it was heat rash. Meanwhile the rest of the family sat eating their roast dinner and pointing out smugly that we were overreacting and it was obviously a heat rash. (I add that we had been on the Internet and it didn't look even slightly like a heat rash, plus DD was wailing and she never wails...) The days apart from Xmas day were fine, though; she was her usual self.

Until the day before yesterday I got a stinking cold and have had it ever since. She was awake almost all night last night and it's clear she's getting the cold, poor thing. I was feeling crap and not in a state to deal with it.

Oh and she has become a bottle refuser!!! She rejected my EBM the other day. She's only had it a handful of times but this is her first angry refusal.

Anyway I hope you are all well and enjoying a break!

(Stefka - all nursing bras are expensive and useless as far as I can see....)

ChocolateHobnob · 29/12/2007 12:40

Oh and I did go to the Next sale - and bought far too many new things for DD who doesn't need them, and nothing for me, who arguably does...

strawberrylace · 29/12/2007 13:01

Hello everyone
Dal - Olly does exactly the same with his hands and also spends all his time taking his dummy out with them, and then screaming cos he can't get it back in yet...
Apricott - Olly's poos vary in colour between yellow, orange and green. He seems happy enough and doesn't always go every day (i was told that's ok), but when he does - everyone knows about it!
Stefka - i had problems with mothercare bras too. i ended up getting some from M&S which are very comfy - didn't want to spend the money, but the others made me feel awful...
Choc - sorry to hear about your grandma - hope she gets better soon - the same thing happened to mine last year (and she was 92 as well!)

I am having a nightmare time with painful feeding at the moment, after weeks of everything being fine, this has come as a bit of a shock. There's a crack or something on one nipple which bleeds when he feeds - discovered in horror when i expressed 'strawberry milk' yesterday... trying to persevere with bf at the moment and going to call HV on monday, but i have to grit my teeth to do it... Ouch!

alicet · 29/12/2007 14:17

I agree with strawberry - the only nursing bras i had that were comfortable were from M&S. Totally sexless items but hey ho!!!

Stefka if they're that bad I would take them back!

MrsFish good luck with potty training! Will be looking for tips in a few months! Sam has started to tell us when he needs a poo and more recently a wee - 'poo - potty!' and 'wee - potty!'. So we have a potty and offer it to him when he says he wants it then he refuses. Not bothered though - wouldn't have even started this yet if he hadn't started telling us - thought it was a good thing to encourage it though if he shows an interest! Presumably one day he will give it a go and that is when we will start trying to potty train properly.

Choc sorry you've had a stressful time honey. Hope your Gran is OK. And ignore the smug rellies - if you are worried about your lo you HAVE to seek advice - who cares if the docs / nhs direct / whoever say you're worrying about nothing. When I worked in A&E I saw millions of mums like this and never minded - it's terrifying being a mum and even though I wasn't then I think I realised that! I would rather see a million mums with a child that was clearly well but just overwraught about something undefinable than one who had brought their child in too late. That just doesn't bear thinking about. I remember my GP saying to me that there was a very fine line between being neurotic and being neglectful and he knew which side of the line he would rather be on! Thought that summed it up nicely!

Anyway we've had a great morning - went to this place in Newcastle that is a centre for children's books. It has 7 different floors with different things on each - a wooden farm, a wooden train set, lots of books and some crafty stuff. Plus a couple of exhibitions that change regularly on different childrens books. It's great and always really quiet. And they do good food too! Unfortunately dh is now in bed with a possible migraine - fingers crossed whatever it is settles with a sleep!

Oh and I have booked 3 days skiing for us in March! My cousin has a chalet in Chamonix and he's always been promising to let us stay. After dh's incredibly generous and thoughtful christmas pressie I got to thinking what he would like most this year and knew it was to go skiing - and we can't really afford it. So I have bought the flights for his birthday pressie and we are going for his birthday weekend. Mum and Dad are going to have the boys - I'll miss them terribly and its the longest I've been without them but we will have a lovely time! And because the accommodation is free we can afford the passes and ski hire. And to go out and enjoy ourselves! I told him as he is someone who prefers to know about things like this so he can look forward to it rather than being surprised. And he was very pleased so that's great.

Anyway, going to stop waffling now (honest!!!) and see you later...

Just a last quickie - does anyone know where you can buy children's beanbags? Sam is very into all manner of vehicles esp diggers and nee naws (emergency ones for those of you without little boys and baby brains ) so anything involving those would be ideal!

AnyasMum07 · 29/12/2007 16:21

Still having feeding issues - maybe I'm trying to overfeed her?? Question for all bottle-feeders - how much are you giving your lo's and how often?

ejt - sympathy with Mairwen's naps. pu/pd might not be working because she's too young - the bw website says it's really for 4mo+. Not sure what the answer is for refluxy baby I'm afraid. Hope the PIL visit isn't being too stressful.

Muppet - sorry to hear about your dh's gran - I hope he's ok.

MrsFish · 29/12/2007 16:27

Ben is having 5 bottles atm of between 5 and 7 ounces, he has these at three hourly intervals through the day and then goes 12 hours without overnight

AnyasMum07 · 29/12/2007 16:52

Wow, I can't even get Anya on 6 bottles of 5oz. How old/heavy is Ben? Anya's almost 12 weeks and 12lb 5oz, so I thought 30 oz per 24 hours sounded about right.

Dalrymps · 29/12/2007 17:42

ds is on 4oz every 3 hours (well 3 hrs from when he finishes the last feed to the start of the next one) and he goes about 6 hrs at night, tried him on 5oz but just refuses it. he's 8 weeks and weighs about 9 and a half lb (was 6lb 5oz at birth)

OP posts:
MrsFish · 29/12/2007 18:25

Ben is 12 weeks (yesterday) and 10 days ago was 15 pound 14 ounces. He is having between 27 and 33 ounces every 24 hours He's a big boy!

MrsFish · 29/12/2007 18:26

Btw My HV said at this age anywhere between 27 and 35 ounces was fine, so you sound as if you are doing great

AnyasMum07 · 29/12/2007 18:54

Well, not doing great really - 30oz is the aim but today so far she's had 13 so it will be less than 20 in 24 hours to tomorrow morning.

Just had the suggestion it might be that the teat's too small - physical size rather than flowing too slowly - so we'll try some bigger ones. What teats are everybody using? (sorry to ask so many questions!)

theladyevenstar · 29/12/2007 18:56

Zachary is have between 6 bottles of 7 oz every 2-3 hours but will sleep from 10-7am. He is also on solids at lunch time followed by a dessert and a 4 oz bottle....he is a hungry baby lol. He was 17lb 8oz 10 days ago....i have my very own little dumpling lol

muppetgirl · 29/12/2007 19:35

Thanks Anyasmum... x

Hi all
We are experiencing the pea soup poos from H atm. I'm not sure why they've changed but they have

Well, we picked my wedding ring up from the jewelers today as I had to have it cut off when I was expecting H and it needed reparing. I also had 3 tiny diamonds put in all in a row to signify my 3 boys -god I'm getting soppy in my old age. It looks fab!! I was stupidly excited in the shop! We also found a lovely ring that matches my necklace that dh bought me for Christmas which he said I could have for our snniversay present (5th) later this year. Lucky me!! He's having a rather nice watch that he's on a waiting list for so he's happy too.

We had friends over for a night on thur and it was great to catch up. They are the ones who have ha 3 miscarriages in a year so have been referred for tests. Hearing how desperate N is for a baby really brings it home to me just how lucky I/we are...

greedygreedyguzzler · 29/12/2007 20:26

happy belated xmas everyone!!! sorry i never got a chance to get on here earlier. i like everyone personaly signing their messages!!! so that was "happy xmas from julie, simon, ellis, kiki and marcy!"

alice - your message made me cry too! what a lovely present! didnt dare let dh see me cry though cos then he would have asked what was wrong and i would have had to tell him and he excelled himself this year with my present too so i wouldn't have wanted to seem ungrateful!

inzi - hope jane is a bit better. does she bring up lots of milk? my ds had reflux and used to bring up milk every time he burped and it wasnt just a ltiile bit either. i thought it was normal and all babies did it until i had dd1 and dd2 and now i know it was cos of his reflux. he used to squirm when feeding too, and scream out in his sleep sometimes which was cos he was in pain when the acid came back up a bit according to the paediatrician. its very easily sorted though, so i hope you get jane sorted soon.

j20 - sure someone else said this already, but you cant be starving shannon! she would never settle for a cuddle if she was hungry. you are doing just the right thing to stop her waking in the night

marcy is still sleeping 10.30 till 7am when we wake her up to feed her. but she isnt taking much at 10pm anymore so i am thinking of trying to stop that feed in the next few days with the hope that she will just sleep through. she is very greedy though! just like her mummy!

i know where you are coming from those of you who want another one. i would love another one and if they didnt have to go to school or pre school or nursery then we probably would. but i dont think i could realistically split myself into any more pieces and ferry 4 of them to and fro all the time, so i think we will stick with 3 for the time being! those of you who are considering another one i would DEFINATELY recommend having them close together. it is MUCH easier having a second or third baby when the first one is quite young and is still at home with you. i feel so sorry for marcy cos she gets dragged around everywhere with me and my other two and it has been really hard getting her into any sort of routine during the day. mind you.........when they are close in age you have 2 lots of nappies at once and they are both still dependent on you!!..........................its a difficult one, but from my experience i would say a 17month age gap was easier than a 2yr 9momth age gap! am i waffling? yep! i think so!!! cos i havent been on for ages.....sorry!!!

OOOoooooo mrs fish!!! i cant wait for the chuckles!!!! i remember it being lovely the first time dd laughed (cant rem ds for some reason!! whoops!!)

we bought marcy the rainforest jumperoo for xmas..i have heard so many good things about it i cant wait to try it. need to wait a few more weeks yet though.

marcy has started chewing her hands too.must just be a developmental thing cos it sounds like they are all doing it

alice - my 2 big ones got kids beanbags for xmas. and they came from the internet but i have no idea which site!!! how helpful am i hey?!!

choc - glad rebecca is all better. and i dont think you can ever over react. you, as parents know her best and know when something is not right so you were right to be worried.

OMG! just realised quite how greedy marcy is!!!.....she has 6 bottles of 8 oz at the mo! and weighs about 17lb now! she is 11 weeks. we are still on size 2 teats, but i keep thinking about going up to the next size.

wow LES solids already! that seems so grown up! they are really growing quickly aren't they

greedygreedyguzzler · 29/12/2007 20:27

OMG!!! what a marathon waffly message!!! sorry ladies!!

theladyevenstar · 29/12/2007 20:59

GGG, I know but he is so hungry and he loves all the different flavours lol. I started about 6 weeks ago dipping my finger in sauces etc and letting him taste them hee hee i know not what everyone else does!!! Then 4 or 5 weeks ago i started him on solids just one teaspoon full in a bowl at a time now he has half a jar of a meal and half of a dessert followed by a bottle. I know when i tell hv they will moan but he is pooing regularly and is content.

AnyasMum07 · 29/12/2007 21:34

May have found the problem... Just bought SMA Gold carton to try and that went down much better. Then dh noticed that the Aptimal smelt funny - it's true, the powder stuff smells like milk that's gone off - the cartons of Aptimal smell like regular milk. Is this normal? Or maybe we've bought a bad batch - the start of the feeding problems did coincide with us buying 3 new tubs.

theladyevenstar · 29/12/2007 22:45

right ladies who were interested in my zahaary's outgrown clothes. I have 4 bundles of clothes. I have sorted out what I think are good little bundles lol.

I will box them up, get them weighed and let you know how much it comes to. I know Dal was interested anyone else???
