How xmas-sy is this? I'm sitting here with a mince pie, writing cards and listening to my Elvis Xmas CD

FairyOnTopOfTheChristmasTree · 16/12/2007 18:02

Hello everyone. that two of the May girls are pg. I am definitely not! We've had a lovely afternoon with DH's aunt and cousins - early christmas meal and presnt swaps. The DCs have far too many pressies already and it's over a week until xmas. Oh well, i suppose everyone likes spoiling children

Yes, where is everyone? All busy with RLs/Xmas prep I guess. Got most of the cards written here, and if I can get the last gifts boxed up for the post it'll be round 2 at the post office tomorrow. Then time to think about food, eek.

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 16/12/2007 23:21

I'm here, but no doubt everyone is in bed by now?

Home again, for now. Mum picked up abit on Sturday (probably seeing us lot) but was very poorly again this morning. She has asked to go into the hospice so will be assessed tomorrow. They think the cancer may have spread into her brain as she is very confused and coming out with random stuff (like asking my sis if the priest was coming to give her communion when she isn't a Roman Catholic) She is still in great spirits though and was telling us all off for chatting about her behind her back.

Anyway, I'm probably not going to be around much as I'm basically on-call to dash back up there, but am desperately trying to sort out Christmas at this end so we can get back up there as soon as possible.

On a brighter note though, my BIL was married before and has 2 kids who he hasn't seen for 20 years. He has tried several times to find them, and it's finally paid off and he met his daughter for the first time since she was 1 year old, finding out he has a grandson and another grandchild on the way. It's bizarre as my 8 and 6 yo nephews have a four year old nephew of their own....weird. What a perfect Christmas present for him, especially as his daughter has been looking for him for a few years as well. He has a son as well, who he will hopefully see soon.

thanks for all your lovely messages.

fury, sorry about your foster brothers' sister.

Hi All - sorry things so shite for you Fury.
Daisy - am amazed how strong you are. Obviously your mum is too. Thinking of you.

Xmas is cancelled here! Well we are going to DH's sister's on the day but aside from that we are doing nothing.I have already missed the last postage dates by a mile so no cards or pressies to send home. DH never helps with pressie buying/ card writing etc for my family & friends when we are in Scotland so have left it up to him to sort out here. Not surprising he has done naff all. We are not buying for each other & DD too wee to appreciate anything but the wrapping paper. Secretly I am pleased to avoid all the hassle. Am I living up to my name?

WewishyouaBUMPERLICIOUS · 17/12/2007 02:47

Daisy I was thinking about you this evening. Glad your mum is rallying a bit. Is there anything I can do to help with Christmas etc.?

Tallulah what a bummer about your DH, are you sure you won't be sad at Christmas. I would be dropping strong hints to DH about buying you something lovely to make up for the lack of Christmas!

So it's nearly 3 and I have been up for an hour. DD won't up with a dirty nappy, she wasn't cfrying just talking away. And now I can't get back to sleep as I feel so horrid - bleugh! Just had some cereal as I was starving, now going to see if I can find some paracetamol.

TALLUBAHHUMBUGBELL · 17/12/2007 07:24

Hey Bumper - hope you got back to sleep. I am only sad for my folks who I know are really disappointed to miss out on DD's 1st Xmas. Myself, I can take it or leave it & I usually find the hassle & stress outweighs the fun bit. I truly am Scrooge! Am sure I could guilt DH into buying me something nice but I'd need to go get it myself, then I'd have to get him something too. And can't think of anything I want either. What are you getting or is it a surprise?

TALLUBAHHUMBUGBELL · 17/12/2007 07:41

DD has a splinter in her foot. I have tried getting it out with tweezers but she squirms so much then starts to cry. Would it be OTT / PFB to go to the doc ??? It's been there a couple of days & I don't want it getting infected. Will it just work its own way out ? Any advice? I asked DH if they had a needle or something in the first aid kit @ work. He said no but he could bring a drawing pin home! FFS!

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 17/12/2007 07:49

Daisy, sorry to hear about your Mum, but glad she is still in good spirits. And great news for your brother

sorry about your Xmas tallulah. If you're really not bothered then it's not so bad I guess, but hope you get to do something nice at least.

And of course - HAPPY BIRTHDAY HOLLY!

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 17/12/2007 07:54

No idea about splinter erally, but I think I'd go to doc after a couple of days. And thanks for bringing back horrific memories of getting a splinter in my bum in pe at school. i had to go to the school nurse, take off my leotard and bend over. But her "office" was behind a screen in the corner of the library and when I stood up loads of the older children were peering round the edge of the screen and sniggering

TALLUBAHHUMBUGBELL · 17/12/2007 08:09

LOL Jammy.
Should I even ask how you got a splinter in your bum?

HaveYourselfaNortyLittleXmas · 17/12/2007 08:11

Morning all

Daisy.....Hope you get everything sorted for Xmas and organised before you go back to Scotland. for your mum, but sounds like its {{{{{hugs}}}}} you and your family need as it's so difficult to care for and watch this happen to someone you love.....

Amazing about BIL - nice to have some good news....he must be chuffed to bits!

Hi Tallulah - shame about Xmas......wouldn't seem like Xmas to me anyway with it being Summer and all that!

DH and I now have DDs cold ....she's getting better slowly but surely but has a wicked cough atm

Bumper - hope you got back to bed and sleep!

Happy Birthday Holly

HaveYourselfaNortyLittleXmas · 17/12/2007 08:15

LOL about splinter in your bum Jammy!

Tallulhah, my mum used to use magnesium sulphate paste covered with a bit of cotton wool and sticky tape (can't remember the name of the stuff but its the breathable tape that you can tear). She used to use it to draw splinters or thorns to the surface so she could get them with tweezers.

I cut one of DDs fingernails a bit short yesterday and made her bleed .....I felt AWFUL....then DH and I had a row when he gave me a "look" when he was trying to calm her down....I didn't do it deliberately FFS!

TALLUBAHHUMBUGBELL · 17/12/2007 08:17

Happy birthday Holly.

Norty shame about the cold.Hope you all feel better soon. It's really odd, was in town today, are Xmas decorations everywhere, Sally-Ann band playing carols etc but the sun is shining, its 28 degrees & everyone's in shorts. Not at all Christmassy - except for the queues in the Post Office that is.

TALLUBAHHUMBUGBELL · 17/12/2007 08:19

Would I get magnesium sulphate in the chemist? Does it have a brand name ? I did wonder about some sort of poultice.

HaveYourselfaNortyLittleXmas · 17/12/2007 08:23

Mine just says magnesium sulphate on the outside of the pot....certainly worth asking in the chemist. Poor little thing...hope it comes out. I remember having those as a kid and my mum poking about with a needle and having to keep still etc....I think the cream will be much nicer for her....can't think of any reason why she couldn't have it

TALLUBAHHUMBUGBELL · 17/12/2007 08:25

Probably worth just asking the pharmacist for advice - don't know why didn't think of that. Thanks Norty.

HaveYourselfaNortyLittleXmas · 17/12/2007 08:31

Hope it works - I'd be interested to hear what advice they give you - so I'm prepared when it happens to me! Have to say I wouldn't fancy trying to get it out with a needle....DD is such a wriggler!

TALLUBAHHUMBUGBELL · 17/12/2007 08:39

Ah well - bath & bed time here. Have a great day everyone. Bye.

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 17/12/2007 08:49

Yes I'm interested in the advice on splinters, as sure DD will get one some time. Mine btw was from bum-shuffling across the floor of the old school hall during a gym lesson.

Morning everyone !

Thanks for the birthday wishes...I am now officially old as I can no longer have a "young persons'" railcard! BooHoo!

Had a good morning so far. Dp made me breakfast in bed, eggs and tomatoes on toast, yum! Later we are going to drop the dcs with my mum and he is taking me for lunch and to the cinema! Hurrah! It is very sad, but I am very excited!

Anyway enough about me...hope everyone else is well.

Daisy, hope you are feeling ok. I am thinking of you and your family xxx

Off to catch up now...
