derlor, quick HV question for you (sorry to bother you with worky things, but....)

my HV said to only give white bread? I can't remember what DS had, but I would imagine wholemeal as I've not eaten white bread since I left home at 18!

Not that it's a real issue as DD usually gets gluten free bread which is kind of melt in the mouth, but I'd like her to have nice bread with DH and DS.

OP posts:
derlordsmyshepherd · 17/12/2007 21:37

why only give white bread???????????
i don't understand

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 17/12/2007 21:51

She said something about the fibre being difficult to digest?

As a typically undernourished Scot who was fed pappy white bread for years (Mother's Pride was made in Kirkcaldy), I've vowed that it will NEVER pass my family's lips. I'll be gutted if I have to feed it to DD!

baloney!!!!

about 1 in 100 children suffer from celiac sprue meaning they can't digest wheat, barley, rye, and other grains , they are basically unable to break down gluten.

Often, it first appears when babies start on cereals. Symptoms are cramping, gas, and diarrhea. Is this a problem for her?????

This can run in families so maybe that's why she's suggested this to you but if she is asymptomatic then i would just feed her normally.

derlordsmyshepherd · 17/12/2007 22:05

right i'm off to watch bourne ultimatum, back another day x

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 17/12/2007 22:11

well I'm coeliac, so have been wary introducing gluten (defo not before 6mo), but her advice was to all parents at their regular weaning talk, not specifically to me.

Catch you soon!

OP posts:
TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 17/12/2007 22:12

are you saying it's OK to give her baloney

Phew Ive caught up!!
Daisy glad to see your home again- How long is the journey?
I heard that about Brown bread as well - not sure where from.

My dozy Ex - paid for my DD1 to join Models Direct (about £120 I think) - I told him not to - but did he listen?? and has she had any work??? (he always has money for stupid things, but not to buy her socks/pants/shoes etc).

Oh Tallulah, I ve been trying your sleep techniques - its going ok - I think the "no eye contact" is a good one - Im not so sure about the rocking, it seems to annoy L! If after leaving the room, they start crying again, whats the advice? Do you go straight back in or wait a certain time?

er what else has been said????

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 17/12/2007 22:57

It generally takes 5-6 hours jbm, but only 4.5 going up late on Friday with sleeping DCs. I used to do it in four hours when it was just me

I saw something about models direct on watchdog or something similar. They didn't get good press at all.

Hope L sleeps better soon. babyboo only had a couple of naps at the boob when feeding today, and fell sleep on my lap when I was MNetting just after teatime. She just won't sleep....too much excitement on the floor at the moment.

Right, am off to bed; I'm bloody knackered.

WewishyouaBUMPERLICIOUS · 18/12/2007 08:55

daisy apparently the brown bread thing is if they have too much fibre at this age it can inhibit the absorbtion of something, iron I think so wholegrains are ok, just not too much.

i feel absolutely shit. was up nearly all night again. You know when you have a cold and your whole body aches, and your teeth...? Plus i could barely breathe and kept hearing poor DD coughing through the night. Then when I finally got to sleep early in the morning DD decides to wake up for a feed at 6am. The falls asleep in my bed snoring. I am so knackered!

FairyOnTopOfTheChristmasTree · 18/12/2007 09:15

Morning Bumper, sorry you've had such a rubbish night. Have you taken anything for the cold? I take the lemsip 12 hour capsules which are v good, but not sure if you can take them when bf? Can you have a duvet day with DD today?

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 18/12/2007 09:28

ouch bumpeer, sounds nasty. We're all full of it as well this morning. DS complained all the way to school and his teacher had to prise him off my leg this morning. I feel awful, but he is such a hypochondriac and is always "not well" that I never know when he is or not. But, he didn't have a temp and wolfed down his brekkie; not really signs of a poorly child IME. The school have promised to call me if he doesn't perk up.

Got to wait in for a delivery and a courier today, but the post came when I was on the school run. Do Amazon use Royal Mail special delivery? If not, I can't think what I've ordered, but that isn't unusual

Can you give them Christmas crafts to keep them occupied mhc and you can relax on the sofa?

I was thinking the weekend between Christmas and New Year.....hopefully it'll be quiet as everyone will be at the sales!

babyboo is calling; back later after some heavy duty housework and scaling the laundry mountain

deckthehallswithboughsofholly · 18/12/2007 10:08

Morning everyone!

LMN I've just replied to your FB message. I think the problem is not a problem after all!!

Hope everyone is ok this morning. Bumper, sorry for your shitty night. Hope lo sleeps during the day so you can catch up a bit.

I'm having a post birthday blues day. Can't really be arsed to do anything!

Andie, I'm still only giving one small meal a day atm, but I think I need to start increasing this as ds is waking 3-4 times a night! Thank god for co-sleeping otherwise I think I'd be dead!!

DD just weeed all over ds's arm! She is such a pleasant child!

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 18/12/2007 10:28

on the food front; i did start off with gusto, but have got a bit lazy; far easier to lop a boob out than make food, but she generally gets a bit of what we're having at teatime.

She had homemade lentil soup last night and loved it.

OP posts:
deckthehallswithboughsofholly · 18/12/2007 10:29

Yummmm...lentil soup! I love lentil soup!

How are you today daisy?

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 18/12/2007 10:36

A bit fluey and coughy and stressed with all I have to do; so am doing nothing!

I've just had one of those "my lot is worse than your lot" phone calls with DH. I was having a moan about how much I have to do and I'm feeling crap, but he's more ill than me (but doesn't have two kids to look after and all the presents to wrap and cards to write) and has more to do than me as he works full time(wtf????). I told him it's not a competition and hung up

Maybe I'll just forget to pick his bloody present up from the post office!

OP posts:
deckthehallswithboughsofholly · 18/12/2007 10:44

Yeah, coz sitting on your arse all day is sooooo much more stressful than looking after 2 screaming brats! Dp looked after the dcs whilst I went shopping on thurs eve. He was so stressed when I got back I very nearly PMSL!

deckthehallswithboughsofholly · 18/12/2007 10:45

Maybe you could accidentally forget to pick up his present daisy and then accidentally buy yourself a present!

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 18/12/2007 11:01

LOL I'd never hear the end of it

holly, have FB'd you over a moral dilemma!

OP posts:
andiemisletoe · 18/12/2007 11:03

ooh men that is so like them tbh I haven't left dh with them in the day yet so am planning on it soon we'll see then ha andiem wanders away muttering men hah under her breath

deckthehallswithboughsofholly · 18/12/2007 11:14

Daisy, I've fbed you back!

Andie, do it! My dp can't even work out how to put nappies on! Go out for the whole day and turn your phone off, it'll be very funny!

My mum looked after the dcs yesterday afternoon and she had a hard time as well. Ds was screaming for ages! At least now she knows why my house is such a tip!

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 18/12/2007 11:19

Have tried to keep up in between checking on the defrosting freezer and looking after DD, but not had a chance to post yet.

Bumper - sorry you had such a bad night and are feeling poorly. Ditto sorry to Daisy and anyone else who's poorly.

Oh dear, crying baby alert, gotta go...
