Welcome to the chattiest post-natal club on MN!

We spent a year together chatting about all things pregnancy and baby...

...we've tried and tested countless baby products...

...exchanged hundreds of tips...

...talked about all the big things in life, all the little things, the good times and the tough times...

...we had a good laugh together 😁...

...and somehow we now have gorgeous 3 month old babies without looking a day older ourselves 😅 (must be that good laugh!)

@Daffodil21 Well done, girl. I'm definitely going to speak to my GP/HV this or next week and hopefully get a referral. If not, I'll pay private after Christmas I've decided. I think things have brightened up a bit for me, as in there's still a cloud, but it's lifted a bit and I'm actually getting more pure happy moments if that makes sense. I suppose the fact DS is now a tiny bit more independent and DH is away so we have to get on with it helped. DS and I are in a good swing of things I'd say 90% of the time now.

However. The 4 month sleep regression is not a myth. It's hellish. Every day it's worse and worse and none of my usual tricks are helping. It takes me 45 mins to get him to sleep for 30. He had one nap today, 30 mins, FFS. Last night didn't fall asleep till 11.15pm even though we've been settling him since 9pm. Whatever the fuck is going on, it's exhausting for him and for me 😩 this can't last long, surely....xx

@PurplePansy05 I think we are mid 4 month sleep regression too but also teething 🙈 night time sleeps are slowly getting better again (touch wood) but day time naps just arent happening. She will fall asleep on me but the instant I try and put her down she wakes up crying! Also really difficult because ds is off school sick with the cold but still full of energy but can't even take them outside to get dd to sleep in the pram. Ds is fed up I'm not playing but every time I try dd squeals and ds doesn't like the noise of her crying either

wimbler · 18/11/2021 16:30

Just a warning with the ikea high chair - they are completely out of stock at the moment. The only ikea that has them is in Belfast! You can get them second hand I think but even then they’re becoming harder to get hold of one. If it’s the one you want, and you see one going, I’d snap it up!!

kagerou · 18/11/2021 16:57

Thanks for the reassurance on periods as I was getting a little concerned I am bf so that definitely could be a reason @BertieBotts, I didn't know that could affect things but I guess for now I'll just enjoy being period free!

kagerou · 18/11/2021 16:59

I really hope last night wasn't the start of her 4month sleep regression Confused

She has only slept through the night twice since being born!

Magik01 · 18/11/2021 17:43

Welcome @kagerou Smile beautiful name!

@Daffodil21 really glad you got the result you wanted from your GP and they were understanding with the situation. I’ve got another appointment in December and we are talking about discharge as I’m generally a lot happier, like @PurplePansy05 said I’m finding it more enjoyable now (albeit still hard at times!)

I think we are starting the sleep regression here too, but we aren’t 4 months yet, does it matter? I can’t remember the first 6 months with DS1 so have no idea if and when it happened before. 😂

@sarah13xx how’s the house move going? Do you have a buyer for yours? Sorry if you’ve mentioned before!

kagerou · 18/11/2021 20:22

@Magik01 I think the 4 month mark is just an average so some will start sooner than others. I'm going to be judging over the next few days if sleep regression has really started or if it was (hopefully) just a fluke Hmm

biscuitcat · 18/11/2021 21:31

@kagerou welcome! Such a wonderful supportive group of ladies 😊

@sarah13xx also bought a sucky-in swimsuit 😂 though haven't managed to actually go swimming yet! I think he'll love it though so I really should.

@Inmypjsagain bless your mum, that's so sweet of her

I was wondering if I could ask for some recommendations - MIL wants to buy Rowan some outfits for his Xmas pressie and asked me for suggestions so it's stuff he'll definitely wear. I really love him in rompers (I have a couple from Claybear which are gorgeous), and not grey/neutral as I prefer him in colours. Any suggestions as to where else I might like?

PurplePansy05 · 18/11/2021 22:48

@biscuitcat Try Eddie and Bee, Seth and Bear, Piglet and Pear, Alice Bear, Kite Clothing, Kidly or search for other independents on Insta/Etsy. I'd say that's your best bet with colourful clothing, especially rompers. Leo has plain clothes that I mix and match with statement pieces which are usually colourful/patterned and many are from independent stores.

@Magik01 Yeah, Leo is 15.5 weeks now so we're not quite at the 4 months mark yet either. He seems to be starting early with his leaps and then they last few weeks. Isaac and him have been very similar in many aspects so it's probably what's happening with him too! xx

Sorry about so many posts at once, something I wanted to ask for a long time and it's actually happening right now...did anyone mention having tinnitus after the birth? Any of the CS girls maybe? Long shot, I know, but I'm trying to figure out if this is what's happened to me. We paid £75 to our electrician who checked our new installation (and was rather miffed as he installed and certified it himself Blush) to find no issues. We had a BT chap checking our phone line, no issues. But I can hear a low frequency hum in the evenings when it's quiet. DH can't hear it and my dog doesn't react to it. So I've started wondering if this is all in my head, a post-CS tinnitus, apparently this is possible? I never suffered from it before the birth and don't get me wrong, it's not debilitating, but it gets frustrating when I'm trying to fall asleep. xx

Daffodil21 · 19/11/2021 03:23

I'll reply properly in the morning (actual morning 😂) but yes, @PurplePansy05 that was me. The medication they give you afterwards can cause it. I can't remember the name of it but it's the ibuprofen one. Mine did ease off but I've noticed it again over the last week (not sure if related or not).

Smurf123 · 19/11/2021 06:20

Any tips on giving calpol? I think Sophia feels a bit hot. She's been moaning a bit in her sleep too so tried to give calpol through a syringe in the teet of a bottle. As soon as she tasted it she gagged and has been sick bringing up what I'm assuming was her last feed with the gaviscon in it from 10 last night as it was so thick she's now breastfeeding haven't got the calpol in her though dh insists she's not that warm saying her chest is only hot because of the sleeping bag.

PurplePansy05 · 19/11/2021 11:15

Oh wow @Daffodil21 I remember your posts now! Thanks a lot for replying. I'm a bit late to the tinnitus party 🤣 I couldn't remember what the cause was in your case. When I originally googled it, it scared me a bit as apparently this could be due to spinal/epidural damage and if so, the only way to repair it is surgery. Mine isn't bad enough to go under the knife though, for sure.

I now googled my post CS NSAID, Diclofenac, and apparently it is known to have this side effect and it's reportedly the worst NSAID to trigger tinnitus! I hope this is what it is because it's reversible. I had to take Diclofenac for a while because of the infections. There are hundreds of threads online about it 😳 NSAIDs might be oto-toxic to us forever now, did you read this, Daff? That's annoying if so! xx

@Smurf123 I’ve just given it to DS using the syringe provided. Have to do it in about four small bursts as otherwise he coughs it out / gags. But he doesn’t mind the taste on its own.

Daffodil21 · 19/11/2021 11:44

@PurplePansy05 glad things have brightened up for you but I would definitely recommend going to your GP. I can't believe how much better I feel just having the GP validate how I'm feeling. I didn't have to explain anything (after saying why I booked the app of course). He was absolutely spot on with everything he said. Of course it depends who you get though!

@Magik01 I'm so glad you are feeling better and likely to be discharged soon.

@PurplePansy05 yes that was the same thing I was on and pretty sure that's what caused it. I would have had no idea medication could even cause it if it hadn't been for @BertieBotts saving the day again with her wealth of knowledge 😀

So POAS this morning (ridiculous, I know) and got a bloody inconclusive very likely to be evap line. I can't believe DS is 3 months old and I'm looking at a VVVFL again 😂 It probably is just an evap line on a cheap test, but there was a reason I took the test in the first place (we're not ttc yet). I'm tempted just to take low dose steroids over the next few days just in case. The stakes are too high not to. I was hoping this morning's test would give me clarification but it has not 🙄

Daffodil21 · 19/11/2021 11:45

@Smurf123 sorry I forgot to say - when DA had his vaccines the nurse showed me how to give them calpol. Put the syringe in at an angle and then give .5ml at a time, preferably when they're hungry

Daffodil21 · 19/11/2021 11:45

BertieBotts · 19/11/2021 12:01

I think it was a fluke that time as I had not previously known this about tinnitus either!

You want to squirt the syringe into their cheek and do little bits at a time.

If desperate consider asking pharmacist for suppositories or buying the 6+ calpol which is about twice the strength so you give half the dose (only to be done if you're confident!) I did that for DS1 as he hated it so much. Neurofen might also be a smaller dose in the appropriate age so easier to give.

You don't need to try and reduce a fever unless it's over 38 degrees anyway, unless your child has a history of febrile seizures.

Magik01 · 19/11/2021 12:12

@Smurf123 I find giving calpol at the side of their mouths in between their cheek and gum if that makes sense works best as they can’t push it out with their tongue!

Thanks for the well wishes @PurplePansy05 and @Daffodil21 Grin Purple our little boys do seem VERY similar in their behaviours don’t they! Daff, what’s POAS? Am I being stupid but I can’t work out the anagram 😂

How is everyone doing with putting their LO to bed at night? Isaac is still downstairs with us until around 10pm in either my arms or DH. We have tried bedtime earlier upstairs with him but it just isn’t working. Not sure what to do but feel like we really need some time together without children!

Smurf123 · 19/11/2021 12:16

Thanks all it was literally the tiniest amount that she'd got as there was still about 2ml left in the syringe. She really doesn't like it as this happened after her vaccines too but luckily she didn't spike much of a fever then. She seemed uncomfortable with the moaning and then she also seemed hot which is why I was trying. I think she's caught ds cold. Definitely not her happy self and is preferring to just breastfed and sleep on me . Sobs if I try and out her down at all. I've just ordered ds a McDonald for lunch 🙈 he's a lot better today and while he still has a bit of a runny nose it's not as constant as it was the past 2 days. Other than a sore head and no sleep on the first day of it he's coped pretty well with it. Looks like dd is also getting her top tooth through can see and feel the tiniest point through so hopefully she gets over it quickly.

Daffodil21 · 19/11/2021 12:18

@Magik01 pee on a stick 🙈

PurplePansy05 · 19/11/2021 12:42

Ohh @Daffodil21 do you think you might be pg?? Any symptoms? xx

OP posts:
Daffodil21 · 19/11/2021 13:21

@PurplePansy05 I'm not sure. I think it's probably just an evap line on a cheap test, but I did take the test because I did suspect. No symptoms but the thing that made me test was the spotting after suspected ovulation. I've had this a few times and two of them were pregnancies. We did use condoms but obviously that isn't 100% effective

BertieBotts · 19/11/2021 13:53

Omg Daffodil how did I miss that?! How exciting!!
