@wimbler In case it helps most car seats get very slightly better crash test results when belt fitted compared to isofix. The bases are better for eliminating error but they aren't safer as such :)

Magik01 · 06/10/2021 18:39

@dirtyfries sorry to hear your having a rough time. I would see if you can get an appointment to maybe discuss possible reflux with either doctors or HV? I know it can be hurtful when someone suggests to stop BFing, but like others have said I think it’s more because they can see the stress it causes so they think it will eliminate it if we stop. I hope you’ve had a better day today.

Have any of you had your babies refuse a bottle? DS2 took mam bottles fine for about 5/6 weeks and had been refusing it for around 2 weeks now? He just won’t take it and I’m not sure why. Not ideal when he’s only having one bottle of expressed milk a day 🤪

RandomCatGenerator · 06/10/2021 18:41

I would love to see some of your drawings, @Daffodil21!

RandomCatGenerator · 06/10/2021 18:42

I agree with others - DS just turned 7 weeks and it is feeling really hard.

RandomCatGenerator · 06/10/2021 18:43

Love to all ❤️

dirtyfries · 06/10/2021 19:21

Thank you all ❤️
Feeling much much better after today. She's still been on the boob near constantly but I've had a better mindset about it and we've had nice periods of contentment and smiles.
I think I just need to accept there will be very little sleep in the day, just cat naps.
I've got a GP appt on Friday so I'll definitely discuss the reflex and plan on going to a breastfeeding group in a few weeks.

We're away all next week with my in-laws
6 adults, 3 dogs and DD in a three bed log cabin - I don't think it's too much of a mystery why I'm stressing so much about the crying and clinging! I know they'll be expecting lots of cuddles and nice long walks. I've asked DH to try and manage their expectations

wimbler · 06/10/2021 20:05

@BertieBotts that’s good to know, thanks. Puts my mind at ease as we have a long car journey this week and we won’t have a new base in time I don’t think.

@Magik01 my first did the same thing but it was because we got lazy with offering her one. With ds we are religiously giving him at least one a day at the same time with the occasional other as well. This is working for us so far. Are you consistent with your offering?

Ds has the worst cold. It’s breaking my heart. He’s struggling to feed and breathe and is coughing so much. He can’t really lie on his back much and has just wanted to sleep all day poor thing. Had to use saline drops and the nose frida on him today and he cried so much 😭

Ready2020 · 06/10/2021 20:05

@dirtyfries oh it is hard when family just expect cuddles and a baby to play with. My sister wants to come weekly to see DD but DD and I just spend our days either out walking in the pram so she sleeps or feeding on the sofa, with some lovely gin wakeful moments in between but I can't guarantee them when she's here.

OH and I are trying something new tonight with putting DD up in the bedroom right from the get go. Usually she sleeps in the lounge in the bassinet with OH until next feed about 1am but we're starting our bedtime routine from now. Bath, cuddles, feed, walking to sleep (the only way she goes down unless she falls asleep on my boob but that doesn't seem to happen much in the evening as she's too fretful). It'll mean I have my nap with her in the room but I need to stop thinking of it at my nap and more the start of the night. We've set the baby monitor up too but I don't expect her to be in the room herself for long. 20 mins max until I go to bed.

Ready2020 · 06/10/2021 20:06

Clearly not gin wakeful moments! Wishful thinking Grin

Gem176 · 06/10/2021 20:12

Very late to the party as you all seem to have been here since the antenatal stage but in my defence my baby was due in September so wouldn't have thought to join you back then. The title made me smile when I saw it in active.

DD is Katie and was born on 31st August.

The little video at 5 of 13 makes me so sad. The wee new born by herself in the crib.

sarah13xx · 06/10/2021 20:35

Awww congratulations @Gem176 welcome 😊 I was late to the party too!

@dirtyfries going away with my in laws right now (and almost anytime) sounds like hell on earth 🙈 You’re a braver woman than me for doing it! I struggle with mine coming for seriously long visits. They won’t leave til they’ve managed to poke at him enough that he wakes so they can pass him back and forwards the whole time.

Sending everyone a virtual hug that’s needing it today. It can be so tough and after your friends/family gets over the newborn bit and the fact you have this baby to look after they seem to forget about it sometimes. My mum suggests I can go places and help with things sometimes and I’m like what are you talking about? I have a baby?! It’s as if because they just see them for a nice wee half an hour a couple of times a week they think it must be easy. I remember in the second or third week when DH had gone back to work and I was going for a hair appointment, my mum came to look after him but only showed up minutes before I had to leave so I hadn’t been able to have a shower or anything. He’d screamed for hours before she came then fell asleep just before she arrived. I was at my wits end with him (and with her for being so late) when she eventually showed up and to add insult to injury she said ‘what’s the problem? I don’t see how you couldn’t have gone for a shower? He’s sleeping’ 😐

Freddie has his jags tomorrow, I’m fine with needles if they’re going in me but really not looking forward to seeing him crying (and possibly thinking I have something to do with it)! 😢

We’re going to a view a new house at the weekend. Our house is completely fine for us just now but I know it won’t be in a couple of years time if I have another baby. The market is so good right now where I stay and I know our house would sell quick and probably go way over the asking price so feel like we should probably move earlier than we’d maybe like to rather than wait and the price of it has dropped and we’re stuck here. The problem is the house we’ve seen isn’t actually a nicer house than we have but is in a lovely area and has so much potential. It needs a lot of work done to it though and the idea of that with a baby isn’t ideal. Plus the fact we spent a fortune decorating Freddie’s nursery! I’d be sad to leave this house, especially to go somewhere I didn’t love initially but I know in the long run it would work out better doing that 🙄 We might hate it but no harm in going for a nosey!

Magik01 · 06/10/2021 20:35

Welcome @Gem176 to the sleep deprived party! How are you getting on?

@wimbler I think DH stopped trying about two weeks ago and declared that he wouldn’t take it anymore so he wouldn’t even try 🙄 just brought him upstairs to me to feed instead. I’ve brought some tommee tippee bottles today because they look more nipple like then mam in the hope that he might take them. Slightly annoying as I have two full boxes of mam bottles as I assumed DS1 took them so DS2 would too. Envy

lucyrp · 07/10/2021 06:24

@Gem176 hello! Nice to see you here ☺️☺️hope you and Katie are getting on okay! Haven't heard off you in a while x

WolfMother326 · 07/10/2021 09:52

Hello all, I've missed so much as I disappeared from the internet for over a month! Just felt so overwhelmed by recovering from the EMCS and getting to grips with bf a tongue tied baby (which was corrected, and feeding is much better). Now we're past the 7 week mark and starting to get more coos and smiles than crying. Just dealing with a bit of cradle cap...

How is everyone? Here's a photo of Alasdair. Would love to see some baby progress photos!

Daffodil21 · 07/10/2021 10:51

@WolfMother326 lovely to hear from you. He is gorgeous! I love his little outfit! Is everyone dressing in actual outfits..?! We are mostly using sleepsuits still 🙈

I'm on the train to London... alone...! First time I've left him for the night. You must all think I'm a terrible mother dragging him the length of the country and then buggering off to London for the night Blush 😂

PurplePansy05 · 07/10/2021 11:04

@WolfMother326 Hello! He's gorgeous 😍 How are you feeling now? Leo is similar body shape to Alasdair, slim but on a tall side, I think. He's a bit bigger as we're approaching 10 weeks old soon, but definitely looked similar at 7 weeks old. You might see a big growth spurt between now and next week, that's how it went for us and I'm pretty sure he's been gaining a lot more weight since 7 weeks old, he just feels heavier every day and fills his 0-3 outfits easily. We'll be moving to 3-6 sooner I think.

Anyone elses baby in size 3 nappies yet? He's started leaking through size 2s in the last few days. 3s seem a bit big on him, but no leaks?? xx

Daffodil21 · 07/10/2021 11:14

@PurplePansy05 were not yet but we really ought to be soon. We've got loads of size 2s though!! He's been in 3-6 month clothes since 6 weeks 😂 supermarket brands though, if that makes a difference!

Gem176 · 07/10/2021 11:24

Morning 😊

Thanks @sarah13xx glad I'm not the only one who was late to join. Hope all goes well with the jags today! Hated that bit last time round but they don't remember it and it's definitely better than them getting seriously ill.

@Magik01 sleep deprived party doesn't sound like much of a party 😂
We slept in this morning so DD1 was late to school, thankfully when I called in the headteacher told me everyone is human and to just relax and get in when we were all ready 😅 she's so lovely! Guessing I'm still a bit hormonal as I could have cried!

Second time mum but with an 8 year age gap so it kind of felt like starting from scratch again but it's coming back to me now!

Any experience with reflux milk and explosive nappies? This is completely new to me and apart from the poonami's this milk ticks all the boxes (no reflux, no painful wind and she's very settled after each feed) but I'm not sure if the nappies will always be like this or if it's just because she's been on it less than a week?

Truly gutted that the weather is miserable here today after yesterday when it was beautiful and we got out for a 4 mile walk! Off to get my nails done, hope everyone has something to look forward to today, even if it's just a hot cuppa when husband/partner gets home 😊 xx

lucyrp · 07/10/2021 11:29

@PurplePansy05 gosh DD is still in size 1 nappies and she's 7 weeks next week. I have found different brands of size 1s are different though. Even the 2 different types in aldi the premium ones in size 1 are too small now but the normal size 1 in aldi are a great fit! Weird! Xx

@Gem176 I'm off to have my nails done today too! Going for something a bit autumnal I think 🤔 x

Gem176 · 07/10/2021 11:38

Posted and now see all the new comments🤦🏻‍♀️

@lucyrp all good here, how are you and Evelyn getting on? We are getting into our own little groove now that everyone has kind of gone. My dad came up after OH finished paternity to be my chauffeur and to do any heavy chores as I didn't know how I'd be after my section. Thankfully I was absolutely fine by the time OH went back to work but my dad still came up as he wanted some time with the grandkids. He's very chilled so I didn't mind having him stay over, he peeled potatoes, hoovered, mopped, made me cups of tea and we went for nice wee afternoons out 😂
Are you finding second baby so much more content? We only really hear Katie giving her lungs a good exercise if she is waiting for a bottle. This girl gets hangry 😂 oh and she hates her hands being covered..... swaddling is a big no no 🙈

dirtyfries · 07/10/2021 11:42

@Daffodil21 we're just in sleepsuits still too. She's so wriggly when we change her nappy - it's just the easiest way!

Ready2020 · 07/10/2021 11:42

DD is in size 2 nappies still and just moving on to some size 0 to 3 month clothes. She's 8 and a half weeks and not sure of her weight but was almost 11lbs at last weight in. She's long so I'm finding clothes sizes difficult.

Our plan for night sleeping didn't go to well. She just hates the snuz pod!

Your babies are all so cute and teeny! He's one of my little chunker 🥰 they said his head was on the 95th centile 😂

WolfMother326 · 07/10/2021 13:13

Everyone's babies are so cute!

@Daffodil21 this was literally the first time I dressed him in real clothes rather than a sleepsuit, I even added a cardigan! And you aren't terrible- enjoy your time in London!

@PurplePansy05 he is definitely long legged! He's filling most 0-3 already and his body is long enough that some are tight in length but still baggy. He's definitely been putting on weight- feels so much heavier than last week.

How is feeding going for everyone? I'm still breastfeeding but occasionally top up with a formula bottle, about 60 ml in the evening if necessary as supply seems low just before bedtime. Overall going pretty well.
