@Ready2020 glad you managed to sleep a bit! How was the rest of your night?

wimbler · 23/10/2021 10:37

@PurplePansy05 my in laws have the joie travel cot (the standard £60 one that has the baby bassinet insert) and dd can still sleep happily in it now and she’s 3 in December! There’s not loads of room but she loved it and slept really well in there. She’s 90cm tall so I wouldn’t worry about him being to big for it at 10 months

PurplePansy05 · 23/10/2021 10:51

@wimbler That's good to know, thanks! I will ask what cot is available (it's a private owner rather than a large family complex, see).

I personally have no problem with using a different mattress as long as the dimensions and the fit are right. In fact our nursery set didn't have a mattress included for his main cot, I bought it separately and it fits great.

I have a friend who uses two mattresses in a Chicco N2M, she said she bought a softer one for her LO and she puts it on top of the original one. I have the same N2M and I was a bit bamboozled, personally I wouldn't put two in it, I don't think it's sturdy or high enough. We are very much a firm mattress family as well, but each to their own I suppose. xx

Disgusting question of the day (sorry if you're having breakfast, I did pre-warn! 🙏😳), has anyone noticed perspiration issues post-partum? I sweat like crazy sometimes. I'd take Leo for a walk and it's a hilly area, fair enough, but seriously. I was never a sweaty person before, I am rather uncomfortable now and need to shower twice a day. Pregnancy hormones still? Or bf? Please tell me this will improve 😳🙄 dreading the menopause later too xx

@Daffodil21 the night wasn't too bad. I never sleep too well after the night feed really as she's more awake too. I do wish I got the travel cot that folds down at the side like the snuz pod as it made it hard to get her back in the cot from the bed as she was asleep on me. We'll need to move the bed over a bit so I have floor space to stand on next to the cot. All in all she seems OK in the cot which is good. I'm sure we'll have bad nights to come though.

@PurplePansy05 I do find that I'm still overly hit generally. When I go for longer walks I come back very sweaty and need to change under clothes. But I'm putting that down to my body over doing it a bit still. I'm hoping it'll improve the more my body recovers.

Do all babies go through the 4 month regression to some degree? I'm not looking forward to that at all!

RandomCatGenerator · 23/10/2021 18:06

Yep, I get the same @PurplePansy05. Internal thermostat seems to be broken! Hot flushes unrelated to what I’m doing, and also generally running hotter than before.

PurplePansy05 · 23/10/2021 18:21

Sorry to hear there's more of us in the sweaty club! @RandomCatGenerator I think you've asked about the parka before as well? I think it's generous but it fits me well. I was a size 12 pre-pregnancy and now with bf I am a 14 on top so got it in size 14. It's quite long so plenty space for a jumper and even on top it's on a loose side, but that's what I wanted, I always buy parkas and sporty jackets a size bigger. Today it was really cold here and I loved walking around in it! Also bought myself stroller gloves, now we're sucking diesel 😁 xx

I don't think the sweating has ever got better for me :( sorry!

sarah13xx · 23/10/2021 23:58

Also noticed how out of breath I get still. I’m not pregnant anymore but I’ll push the pram up a hill and I can barely breathe 😂 One week until I start running again though, that will be a shock to the system

Ready2020 · 24/10/2021 01:07

Night 2 in the new cot is a very unsettled one with DD up for a feed 2 hours early.

OH has been sitting in the bedroom with her while I sleep in the spare room. What bugs me a bit(but probably makes no difference) is he is watching things on his laptop while she sleeps. Now I use my phone in dark mode only but I'd say that the room should be dark and peaceful while she gets used to bring in it. He says it makes no difference and he won't sit here in silence.

Ready2020 · 24/10/2021 01:16

He uses headphones mind.

RandomCatGenerator · 24/10/2021 06:32

It wasn’t me @PurplePansy05 - it’s still 30 degrees here, we’re a way off needing parkas!

PurplePansy05 · 24/10/2021 08:37

Oh of course it is, sorry @RandomCatGenerator! 😁😂 I dedicate my earlier post to whoever asked then, sorry girls haha! xx

It was me @PurplePansy05 thanks. I think I’m going to go with the size 14 and hopefully that will be right. We live a few minutes walk from the woods so will be nice to be able to go for walks there with dd in the carrier as it gets colder.

We are also looking for a travel cot, we’ve booked a few nights in a cottage in December and I’m thinking it would be useful if she was to stay at grandparents in future too. I like the look of the maxi cosi one but it’s not cheap, it might have already been said but does anyone have any recommendations for one that’s suitable for this age?

sarah13xx · 24/10/2021 09:16

I’m now on day 10 or 11 of my period 🤔 I’ve been taking the pill since day 1 and it’s not really heavy but just hasn’t stopped! Starting to think it never will 🙈

BertieBotts · 24/10/2021 09:36

That happened to me on the mini pill. I don't know if there's advice on how long to wait for it to settle.

biscuitcat · 24/10/2021 09:55

@PurplePansy05 I've noticed I get really hot when I go on a walk with DS in the carrier, but I don't know if that's just because he's keeping me warm! I feel like I am running a bit hotter than I was pre-pregnancy though.

I've moved DS into the seat part of the pram, as he really hated the bassinet and is only a week or two off the age that it says you can - and it's a revelation! I managed to go for a walk round town with friends yesterday and he was so chilled the whole time, clearly just a curious little thing who wants to nose about (takes after his mother...)

Thinking of preparing for winter, is it worth buying a footmuff? I was looking at a nice sheepskin buggy liner and wasn't sure if that would be fine, with a pramsuit, or if a footmuff would also be useful? I was thinking of a sheepskin one where I can zip the top off so it doubles as a liner for when it's less cold if that makes sense?

Daffodil21 · 24/10/2021 10:01

@PurplePansy05 I felt really sweaty during the night to start with but that has settled down. This is really gross but I sometimes still notice I whiff a bit on my underarms in the morning, even if I've showered the night before good job we have a house full of baby wipes!

@Ready2020 we had an additional feed last night too, so it may not be anything to do with the new cot arrangement, just a coincidence maybe. Definitely worth persevering with and seeing how she goes. We had an additional one again the other night following his jabs but then the next night was exactly the same as normal. Last night not so much, so I'm hoping it's not going to be a regular thing.

Daffodil21 · 24/10/2021 10:07

@biscuitcat I would definitely say yes to a foot muff (unless anyone has any better recommendations - FTM here!). DS has one in his and he definitely feels nice and cosy with a footmuff. Plus it means he's ok with a coat and we don't have to buy another pramsui for his feet to grow out of. We bought two when I was pregnancy but he's already grown out of them and has never worn them! There's a nice coat in Asda where the cuffs fold over to cover their hand. I tried mittens on mine but he just flicks them off. The coat is only £12 and is fleece lined with a hood.

I feel like it's a bit tooo cold now to take DS out in the push chair already. It's been around 2-5deg here in the last week. Even though he's all snuggly in what he's wearing it just feels like it's too cold on his face? So I've just been taking him out for walks in the carrier instead which is a shame as he likes looking out of the pushchair and it's easier on my back! I didn't expect to feel like it was too cold for the push chair already, but maybe I'm just being silly?!

Daffodil21 · 24/10/2021 10:08

@biscuitcat I had no idea buggy liners existed! Thanks for this!

BertieBotts · 24/10/2021 10:20

I don't think their face will get any colder in the pushchair than in a carrier? As long as they are bundled up in blankets/coat/footmuff/hat (whatever combo feels appropriate bearing in mind they are sitting still so not generating heat like people walking do)

If you are really worried you can always use the raincover as a windbreak but I think it's a shame as they are hard to see through.

The sheepskin ones are lovely. Just hard to wash.

PurplePansy05 · 24/10/2021 10:21

@biscuitcat Omg, I had DS in the carrier in the shops and I felt so hot after. It brought that last weeks of pregnancy feeling back, too, which I didn't enjoy. DS is getting heavy to carry in the front for me too with my already weaker lower back. DH on the other hand loves the carrier, but he's only had him in it on walks outdoors, so cooler.

In terms of sweating, apart from the obvious body heat from carrying/holding the baby, I think it might be estrogen still running high. Bertie, I hoped this would settle after 6 months when I finish/reduce bf, that's not great news if it doesn't 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️ it's not the night sweats anymore, it's just in general! Although we are returning our memory foam mattress, it's definitely too hot for me.

@biscuitcat I have an Uppababy pram and bought their stroller insert which was actually reasonably priced and is machine washable. Not tried it yet. Comments on JL say it fits many different strollers. It doesn't cover the entire inside of the stroller though, just the seat, so I bought a footmuff from Argos and planning on using both together. Stupid question, how do you put the footmuff on, on the baby or slide onto the stroller seat? 😳😁

And rain covers. I take it babies can breathe fine under them. Do I need to leave gaps somewhere when putting it on for air circulation or do they have small gaps in the cover, eg on the side or something? I've not used them yet as you can tell 😳 xx

BertieBotts · 24/10/2021 10:22

Agree fold over sleeves are way more practical than mittens and gloves a total no go. Too fiddly to locate all the fingers.

Once they get to the age of wanting to pick things up, waterproof mittens are the best.

BertieBotts · 24/10/2021 10:26

A footmuff goes on like a seat liner, it kind of sits on the seat and the straps feed through the bottom layer. It should then unzip or unfold at the front to strap the baby in. You tend to have to leave it on all the time. Some of them you can keep the underneath layer as a buggy liner and completely zip the cover off for warmer days.

Raincovers aren't totally airtight, some of them have little holes/gaps which is mainly to stop it from steaming up although that doesn't really work. They're a horrible necessity and most toddlers hate them. I only really use mine when it's torrential. For a shower I wouldn't bother.
