James - sorry, couldn't wait any longer... hope my link works...

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 05/12/2007 22:44

Sometimes James nappies smell a bit vinegary (the poo not the wee) sorry for TMI, but generally they don't smell much, which is pretty good considering he's now 95% ff. The feeds are seriously dwindling, he's just too busy looking round to stay on the boob long enough.

I've had quite a few people to buy for this year, but I'm doing the same as last year and just buying everyone chocolates, with a little something for each of the kids in the family as well, and a few bits for my bachelor brother and widowed dad since no-one else will probably bother. Still got to get stuff for dp, I'm a bit stumped but we've said we'll just get each other something small and then buy clothes or whatever in the sales.

tokentotty · 05/12/2007 22:47

Ooh no, was lying in bed with a girlfriend (not in a weird way, just when we were both hungover and I couldn't manage Paddy on my own !) and I said, "I can smell beef oxo cubes" and she said that she thought the same but felt rude saying it. Realised that we had one of Paddy's wee filled nappys between us and it must have been that...

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 05/12/2007 23:07

LOL, what are you feeding that child???

Actually, for everyone who isn't weaning yet, are you giving anything other than milk? I've been giving him a ounce of baby juice now and then to try and get him used to a sippy cup. (It's not working by the way, his arms are too short to lift the cup to the angle required for the juice to come out, and if I take my hand away for a moment he'll poke himself in the eye with the spout)

He also smacked my spag bol earlier and then sucked his fingers, so much for starting with baby rice, eh?

tokentotty · 05/12/2007 23:31

Well.....he had banana and something baby something earlier and seemed to like it (from Boots, organic something or other). Not got a high chair yet so it's fun trying to contain the mayhem. Was only his second solid feed so can't blame that for his spontaneous combustions. Honestly, he doesn't just poo, he expels Satan... am too much of a rubbish mum to think this isn't ok as he seems happy about the whole experience !

GillL · 06/12/2007 10:43

Back at work today. Dd's constipation is gone so it's just the cystitis to sort out. The anti-biotics don't seem to have kicked in yet as she's still saying it hurts to wee so she's still got a nappy on at the moment. She hasn't been able to go to pre-school this week but I'm hoping she'll be well enough to go on Monday.

Sounds like a great day out TT ;) Twice recently I've had other mums ask me for baby wipes cos they forgot to take them out with them. I'm a bit obsessive about taking everything you could possibly need so the bag gets checked 3 times before we go anywhere. Mum tends to get most of the explosive poos these days while I'm at work. It works out very well for me especially because she then washes the dirty clothes

xmas pressies are almost complete. Mum's getting the last one for me today while she's in town. All but 2 are wrapped and cards are all done. Luckily we don't have to worry about food cos we always go to my mum and dad's for xmas dinner. Dd is very excited about having a little xmas tree in her room. I think we'll have to tidy first though as it looks like a bomb's gone off in there.

GillL · 06/12/2007 10:46

Forgot to say James - ds is still purely on milk. Might have to follow your lead and put him in size 4 nappies. Somehow the back of the nappy manages to work its way down to just above the top of his bum in the night.

My2Weegirls · 06/12/2007 11:16

we have explosive poops here too! she saves it all up for every 2nd day. a couple of times i've had to cut the vest off her . i was luckt dd1 never did explosive ones and did small amounts often. i used to wonder what other mums were talking about - well now i know!!!

i'm also seriously starting to think about introducing solids (why are they called solids when they are pureed??). she's so fasinated by food.

she also slept from 7.40pm till 4.10am which is her longest yet - lets hope it keeps up and it's not just a one off.

gill glad your wee one is doing better - what about lots of fruit ice lollies to help get fluid into her to help her pee?

GillL · 06/12/2007 13:05

That's a good idea my2weegirls. The best way to get her to drink is to give her a capri sun in the car in the morning, although she spilt it all over her top, coat and buckle of the car seat this morning. Mum had to get as much off as she could and then use a hair dryer to dry it off

I'm holding off as long as I can or as long as ds will let me with the solids. I didn't find weaning dd much fun so I'm in no hurry at the moment and he's quite happy with his milk. He has developed a very annoying habit while feeding though - he turns his head towards the tv and it kills my arm and my back.

shrinkingsagpuss · 06/12/2007 13:44

Hello - gave Evie a pot of baby rice last ngiht for tea - just 1 tsp of rice mixed with FF - never seen a baby guzzle so fast!! I think we are officially onto food.... going to Ikea tomorrow to buy a new hi chair (always hated DS's - can't face making her use it). Hope fully it will stop her from waking twice a flaming night.

Sorry your DD still not quite better Gilll - have oyu tried cranberry juice? You can mix it with other fruit juice to make it sweeter, but it works best if neat, as its acidic.

GillL · 06/12/2007 14:01

Might give that a go sagpuss and get her to drink it regularly if she likes it. I think I've found the cause. Even though I've told her a million times not to, she often wipes back to front when she goes to the toilet. Will have to work on this. At least if I can tell her that she will get the infection again if she carries on doing it then it might deter her.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 06/12/2007 15:19

Ok I'll admit it, though I want to do blw with James, we do have a box of baby rice in the cupboard which was given to us (when he was about a week old iirc!) and it's been beckoning me, and saying "Try meeeee... James might like meeeeeee!" so a few days ago I mixed some up and tried hm with a taste. He smiled, then shoved it out with his tongue. Tried a couple more spoonfuls but he really isn't that interested just yet.

Saw the hv today (he got his third lot of jabs- howled the place down, poor little sod, and he's been asleep ever since) and she asked if he was on food yet because I asked her again if his weight was ok (17lb 7oz) and she wasn't concerned at all when I said he wasn't interested, she said "oh you've got a couple of months yet before you have to introduce solids, don't worry just yet, he's healthy enough" so phew!

Everyone I know thinks I'm feeding him pureed pies anyway!

I threw a bit of a strop today in the doctors actually, demanded to see a doctor during my hv appointment because you can't get an appointment for love nor money, but my doctor drifted through chatting with the hv and her minions, and then said to them "no, no, I'm not busy, I'll be in the other room if you need me" !!! So I demanded he saw me for my eczema then and there in front of the hv's (sod 'em) and when I showed him the rashes he looked quite shocked, and I left with a plastic bag full of creams and bath stuff. Yay!

My doctor is weird though. Anyone remember waaay back when I was pregnant and I had a swollen area on my stomach, and during diagnosis he pulled my knickers down at the front for some unknown reason? well this time he asked where the rash was, and I said "my face, my arms, my thighs etc" and he pulled the neck of my top forward and looked at my chest. Pervy or just being thorough? Weirdo.

stretchmarks · 06/12/2007 15:57

HI Everyone,

ooh james that sounds like a bit of a pervy dr to me. I had to take Alex to the dr's today he has a terrible cough and it's now on his chest so we got some anti-biotics. Hopefully it will clear up soon as I've hardly slept the last 2 nights. Shrinking I am currenlty wishing to go back to just 2 night wakings!!!!! He goes to bed fine but after he wakes for his feed that's it the poor little sod is having real trouble getting back to sleep as his nose and chest seem worse at night. I've got nasal drops, karvol and the cot matress up at an angle don't know what else I can do

Still I have managed to wrap all the kids presents today, still got a few presents to buy and hopefully will have the cards in the post by Monday.

Alex has done some good explosive poos but not managed to beat his big brother who pooed once and it came out of his nappy through several layers of his clothes and all over my trousers. I was 100 miles from home at the time showing him off to family thinking shit I don't pack a change of clothes for me as well !!!! Alex does win hands down though for the stinkiest farts I am beginning to wonder how he does it or what I'm eating that's causing him to produce such a stink.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 06/12/2007 16:03

LOL stretchmarks. My lo did a number of trumps in the doctors today as he cried and struggled during having his injections. I'd have laughed but I was too busy trying not to cry (soppy sod, aren't I?) I like to think he was getting his own back on the nasty hv

Tasha, did you say a couple of weeks ago that you would be interested in some baby boys clothes for your ds3 if I was going to be getting rid of any? I've been having a look today and I really do have loads of stuff and I can't be bothered faffing with ebay for it all just before christmas, so why don't you let me know what kind of things you need and I'll send you some? (don't worry about the p+p, it's christmas after all!)

stigofthedump · 06/12/2007 16:21

Hi all. We also have explosive poos with much grunting as warning which is pretty useful.

Christmas is coming, stig is getting fat. Anyone else bf and eating an enormous amount of chocolate. Has to be good stuff tho, green & blacks maya gold or lindt extra creamy, not co op finest as dp got me last night to help us save money. Ha. As I replied, what vices do I have? No fags, drugs, booze, no nights out, no designer clothes, no betting on the horses, no cosmetics, no expensive hobbies, no fancy holidays, at least I can have decent chocolate.

loler · 06/12/2007 23:25

I can't stop eating but not fussy about what! Thought BF helped you lose weight - some marketing company must have thought that one up!

I've not started weaning at all yet. would prefer to get up twice in the night than cart purees around. Might change my mind if the nights get more disturbed.

Went to see my friends day old baby today - he looks so small and scrunched up. Am feeling incredibly broody. Have to keep reminding myself that these lovely babies don't stay that way. Currently having to text santa with news of naughty dc on a regular basis - what am I going to do after christmas????

mamamila · 07/12/2007 09:19

ooh just had a whiz through,

mila has started waking at 12.30am ish after weeks of sleeping 8-4.30am, she only needs to guzzle on a boob and we fall asleep but me and dp are feeling stiff from sleeping in awkward positions around her all night. so maybe she is hungry, achh i really don't want to start weaning until february! it's high season in our business and i really haven't got time for all that pureeing and advance planning yet!

16 weeks today and feel like we have a routine and her personality is really apparent. she's such good company! bit nervous that she's started complaining if she's held by someone else and can't see me

shes chewing on everything but dummies, we're all covered in dribble but doesn't seem pained so haven't used the calgel yet

most annoyed that it's so soo hot here she's only in vests so i've totally wasted my money on a pile of lovely monsoon 3-6 dresses

are you all ready for xmas? has anyone found any cute xmas outfits? i ordered a reindeer print sleepsuit and hat from John Lewis but I'd love some sort of elf or santa hat, for baby that is

mamamila · 07/12/2007 09:23

hmm and i'm also not losing any weight, don't know why i don't feel like i eat so much. and i haven't much chance to hide it, i'm so sick of people asking when the next one is due, i still have a pretty good size pot belly

Hersetta · 07/12/2007 15:13

Mamamila, we're almost ready for Xmas. pressies bought but not wrapped and cards not written yet - will hopefully do that this weekend. We have a sleepsuit with 'my first christmas' on it and a long sleeved vest with 'I'm a little christmas cracker' on - no hats though as Cait's not keen on them and screams blue murder when then come down to her eyes.

Had a lovely day out yesterday all by myself whilst DH looked after Caitlin. popped into the office and had lunch with a colleague, then hit oxford street and then met another friend in a wine bar for drinkes and nibbles. Felt like a proper grown up again and got back at 10.15 and Caitlin had been an angel for DH and went to bed at her regular time of 9.30 and then slept through till 9.am this morning.

We had an explosive poo incident this week as well - ours was in Tesco's. Cait makes a strange choking like noise when she poo's and she made one small noise as we were queing to pay and two minutes later the small of baby poop reached my nostrils. By the time we got to the changing room it had burst out of the side of her nappy and was steadily making it's way up her back towards her neck. She required a complete change of outfit - even down to the blanket she was sitting on in the trolley's baby seat. Had three different outfits on that day due to toilet 'incidents'. I'm sure she's doing it on purpose to get her washing quota up. How can one small person generate double the amount of washing for 2 adults?

Ineedsomesleep · 07/12/2007 18:07

Hi everyone

I've been away from MN for so long that there is absolutely no chance I will catch up with the thread!

Mamamila & Loler, I've got a pot belly too! I'm sure I wasn't this chubby when feeding DS but I'm also sure I didn't eat so much. Keep thinking that I shouldn't be quite such a pig but then again I would feel guilty if I cut down and she went hungry.

At the mo I feel such a prat. I googled BLW and couldn't find much on MN about it so I started a thread without having a proper look. When I have looked again there is loads of stuff on here!

Really don't know what to do for the best. What is everyone else doing?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 07/12/2007 23:41

Well, we're doing blw purely because I can't really be bothered pureeing and spoonfeeding, and I like the thought of feeding him from my plate! Think maybe one or two others are planning on trying it too, can't remember who though.

James had a temperature after his jabs yesterday, and was screaming again tonight although he wasn't hot, hoping he's ok tomorrow because dp's away for the weekend and I'll be on my own with him.

Full of a cold today again! Not sure how I'm doing with my diet because I'm craving bread and biscuits- who wants carrot sticks when you're feeling fluey? bah.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 10/12/2007 09:52

Woah, busy weekends everyone? Very quiet on here- come back before I feel like a billy-no-mates!

I had a hideous HORRIBLE time on saturday night at my sisters- he'd only had a half hour nap all day. I should have known it was a recipe for disaster taking him away for the night as he was also feeling a bit rotten from his immunisations, his teething and the cold he caught off me.

My sister, her dp and kids all made a huge lovely fuss of him but after a while I could see he was getting really tired and overstimulated. I tried putting him down for a nap several times but he just cried. Eventually my sister took him off for a bit and bathed him, again they made it a big opportunity to play, and sang at him and showed him toys...when they brought him down he was virtually hysterical with tiredness.

I was trying to get him dressed and he was screeching and kicking, and all four of them were hanging over him rattling toys and cooing and trying to distract him, and he obviously just wanted to be left alone. I started to get really angry and stressed- my sister was panicking and passing me the wrong clothes and then suddenly she took over midway and started putting on his pyjamas, so I got really annoyed and snapped at her to "justleavehimalooone!!"

Anyway she went off and sulked, and I just couldn't calm him down at all. He was screaming at full bellow for nearly two hours, I gave him calpol, rocked him, pushed him in the pushchair, tried to bf him, layed him down quietly in a dark room- god NOTHING worked and by the end I was really frightened because he was doing an odd repetitive head movement and his whole chest was shuddering with every scream, and he made himself sick with screaming, I almost thought he was having some kind of fit! Eventually he calmed down and nodded off but I was so stressed I started crying and scoffed a load of chocolate to calm down.

He's never done anything like that before- really scary.

GillL · 10/12/2007 10:27

What a nightmare James. I would have reacted the same way. Dd made me cry last night. I let her stay up a couple of nights when she was ill and now it's hell trying to get her to go to bed on her own at a reasonable time. She was just awful last night and I ended up shouting at her. Dh had to take over or I would have done something I would have regretted. He stayed with her until she went to sleep. Then cos I was upset and angry I must have been off with dh. He thought I was upset with him and slept downstairs (although I didn't know this until this morning - I thought it was cos me or ds were snoring).

Spent some time visiting family the last 2 days so I'm really not very rested. I'm hoping to spend at least one day next weekend at home.

I managed to hurt myself on the car seat this morning. I've got a big purple bruise on my leg. Ds is so heavy and it slipped. I weighed him yesterday and he's 16lb 8oz. I've got to start carrying ds to the car and put him in the seat in the car. Only problem is that I told dh I needed a car seat rain cover which we have now bought. So I'll have to use it for a little while, especially considering he told me we couldn't spend any more money.

My2Weegirls · 10/12/2007 10:55

morning - has been quiet on here.

james - it's so horrible when you can see they are so bug eyed and over tired. i find that stroking DDs forehead and down her nose helps her to close her eyes. must be an instinct that something is coming near her eyes - so they close.

gill - poor you - arnica cream for bruises is fantastic (DD1 fell out of her bed on saturday, massive bruise came up on her cheek and is now nearly away we have to be really quite strict with DD1s bed time routine or she starts to take the p!ss so can understand how frustrating it is.

DD2 has my cold so she is absolutely full of it, was worried it was going to her chest so took her off to out of hours gp yesterday - fortunately it's not. her cough sounds so sore so off out soon to get some baby juice to help ease it rather than just milk and water.

was going to start introducing solids this week but will wait till her colds better. DD1 has taken a fancy to the baby rice breakfasts (a baby at childminders gets them so DD1 wanted them too ?!?) and DD2 has had a few mouthfuls and loves it!

shrinkingsagpuss · 10/12/2007 13:07

James - my in laws did that do DS when he was tiny, he just screamed and screamed for hours poor thing, and then suddenyl crashed. i learnt my lesson, and a much firmer now.

Well DH changed Evie's nappy on friday - i nearly fell over with shock!! She is now firmly on the baby rice (little piglet) and guzzles it down she looks so small in her high c hair though, very cute. She's had carrot today and yesterday, and then it'll be apple next. I follwed GF's weaning with DS and although he had a milk intolerance it worked v well, and he still loves fruit and veg to this day.

We're having our bathroom done this week - can't wait for it all to be nice and clean and new. lovely. then I just have to keep it tidy!!

OP posts:
JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 10/12/2007 20:50

Hello folks,

aaw, is evie enjoying the different tastes? James enjoyed his pear juice so I have bought him some apple and orange baby juice to taste tomorrow at lunchtime.

Gill, ooh ouch I have a matching bruise, I slipped in mud and bashed my leg on the car somehow the other day. I swear I'm turning into my mother, she used to bruise like a rotten apple! How's your dd now?

Mytwoweegirls, James and I are full of a cold too. My nose is enturely blocked, and he keeps waking up crying and batting at his nose, poor thing. No horrendous screaming today though- getting stricter on naptimes now!

Well, just got back from slimming world, quite chuffed cos I lost another 6lb, I thought I hadn't done so well this week cos I had a bit too much bread/chocolate, but it still seems to be working its magic. One pair of trousers no longer stay up at all (ok they're maternity pants but they did fit on their lowest setting!) and my regular black trousers are now pleasantly roomy, rather than bursting at the seams. Yay!

Unusually quiet round here, anyone would think people had lives outside mumsnet or something!!!
