Morning!

Helibee- hope you're ok today. I lost my Mum to cancer in 2005, it's always difficult when the anniversary comes around. It's just a matter of getting through it.

Kinki- feel free to "prattle" about anything you want, we all have a good moan here! Hope your test goes ok.

My2weegirls- My allergies are always there in the background, bothering me in varying degrees! I have reactions to dust, mould, animal hair, pollen, hay, washing up liquid and other detergents, bubble bath and most other skin products, cheap makeup, baby oil/vaseline, some foods and alcoholic drinks. I really should give up and live in a bubble.

At the moment I have eczema on my face and neck because god hates me and wants everyone at mums n toddlers on thursday to think I have leprosy and not let their kids near me. I'm putting on the cream the dr gave me, it dosn't seem to be working just yet but fingers crossed it'll look better by thursday.

lol at kinki's ds1's ebola toes! and my2weegirls, your dd2 trying to pick up a freckle is just TOO cute. I was trying to teach James how to be gentle yesterday (futile) as he wanted to touch my face but just kept thumping me. He successfully stroked my cheek gently twice before getting overexcited and bitchslapping my nose hard! I saw stars for a moment, and gave up. Bloody little bully. lol

Uki · 29/01/2008 11:45

WOW can't keep up with all the new posts, it'a great.
WELCOME kinki- Love the name, and it's easy too . Not exactly sure what that is your having, but hope it goes well. I don't want my ds2 to grow up either, funny i was in such a rush with the first though.

helibee- day for you, thinking of you.

I'm getting good at shopping and going out with both dc's now, I was so paranoid and scared at first, I just didn't go anywhere much. C now holds hands and stays with me, apart from stealing some grapes before i could stop him though. I figure once he has touched them he might as well have them, dp would probably be a lot stricter though

JB- that's a shame about your new couch sagging, can you fix it at all? I agree it's hard to make any money from art, i tried putting some mosaic baby photo frames on ebay ,but no takers. quite actually, so hard to do something from home, that makes any $

GillL · 29/01/2008 11:50

pink - I can do the Tuesday if it's Bluewater as I've got to take dd to pre-school in the morning. If it's the Monday then maybe I can come to Maidstone (as long as I can find wherever we meet with the sat nav).

Kinki are you interested in the meet up? Sagpuss, hope the building's going ok. If you're lurking let us know if you're free to meet up on 11th/12th Feb.

I'd been thinking that I would stop sterilising at 6 months. I did the same with dd and, like James, just made sure the bottles had no milk residue.

James, might try the bickipegs. Ds chews everything.

My2weegirls - dd has never commented but I never wear make-up unless I'm going out (about twice a year!). It's a bit stupid really but I feel a bit sorry for dd. Her cousin is the same age and is always well dressed in nice dresses or skirts and matching tights. Dd just ends up in whatever I pick out of the draw in a hurry and is generally hand-me-down clothes from various sources that don't really go together. she doesn't care though - it's just me being silly.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 29/01/2008 12:06

Uki, dp attempted to fix it yesterday. When he opened it up it was broken in two places, the wood all splintered. He's tacked it all together with bits of wood but I suspect it'll need to be fixed again at some point. It creaks worryingly when anyone sits on it.

I don't mean to be ungrateful but I am a little annoyed she didn't mention that it had snapped as it's actually worse than our old one (although it looks a lot nicer) We've been very lucky with freecycle over the years and so I can't complain really, it was just the... well, deception is too strong a word, I just would have appreciated a heads up, that's all.

Why does James always poo as I'm feeding him???? I keep having to stop and lay him on his changing mat as when he poos in the bouncy chair, the harness between his legs makes it shoot out the side of his nappy.

helibee · 29/01/2008 15:06

hi everyone, today is not too bad so far, MIL was round and we had lunch together which was nice and ds is napping.

leifmum - yes i had eczema as a child but only at my joints, my mum however had it all over like Callum has-she outgrew it at 2 but developed asthma (i also have it but only developed it as an adult!) Anyway the house news sounds exciting, hope all goes well today.

helibee · 29/01/2008 15:11

James- callum is exactly the same in his bouncy chair or his activity centre, the pooh usually ends up all up his back if i don't rescue him quickly enough!!

it seems lots of people have lost their mums (more than i thought) anyway thanks for the encouragement and i know i'll get through it, dh is coming home from work early for snuggling up on sofa (if ds will let us! )

shrinkingsagpuss · 29/01/2008 16:38

no time to catch up - but welcome newbies, I'm in the same place as Pink!!

did someone say meet up? tuesdays are good for me as I'm toddler free.

Will tell more when I've read all your news.

w/e bloody awful, brats all poorly, just off to get DS from nursery.

kinki · 29/01/2008 22:56

Hi everyone. The test I had today was a bronchoscopy. I've had a year of breathing problems. Last January I choked and was sure I had inhaled something. Cutting a very long story short, basically the doctors didn't believe it possible. My symptoms manifested as a worsening of my asthma, which coincidentally can happen during pregancy, so this is what they have been treating me for. A different dr saw me last week and quizzed me about my mum and nana dying of lung cancer at a young age, and decided she wanted me to have a bronchoscope to rule that out. So that's where I was today. Only as soon as they were in there they found something in my bronchus. Turns out to be an inch long plastic screw - probably from my son's car table. (It would have been in the mouthpiece of my ventalin when I used it, and so inhaling it). They managed to get it out thankfully. It's been the climax to a very long year, I've been quite poorly including 2 admissions for pneumonia. But I can put all that behind me now hopefully.

How sad reading that so many have lost our mums. Each time, I have found pregnancy hard, and I still get upset she's not here to tell me what to do with the dc. None of my rl friends have lost their mums, so all their dc thankfully still have all their grandmas. So I've not been able to talk about it much really. My2wee, age 12 is a desperately sad age to lose your mum.

Gill, re the meet up, you guys make your plans. Let me know where, when etc and I'll see what I can do. I'm a bit shy and a bit of a scaredycat but it would be really lovely to get out and about meeting people again. Apart from a few close freinds, my social life doesn't really stretch much beyond the school gates. Thank you so much for including me. See I said you ladies were friendly and sociable!

tasha22 · 29/01/2008 23:09

helibee -glad your doing ok today, it must be very hard, i couldn't imagine. Big hugs.
my2wegirls, hows your dd today? The boys have been quite well behaved, ds2 has now oficially entered tantrum stage, o its so much fun being a mum

lizziemun- can understand completely about your dd2 screeming everytime you put her down as my ds3 is doing that atm...thank god for sponge bob. shame hes not a bit more educational though

kinki - not sure wat that is, but hope it went well, doesnt sound the nicest of things.

Uki- whats your secret? pleeeaaase tell me. I refuse to leave the house but not doing myself or the boys any good. Glad your happier about going out with the 2 of them.

gill i used bickipegs with ds1 and he got his first tooth at 3 1/2 months and i am convinced they are what brought it through, i obviously held it for him being so young, give it a go. forgot to mention ds3 started teething just over a week ago.

had to take him to the hospital today as he has an infection and has been very grumpy and barely eating also had diohrea yesterday, so hes on abs. yay i can see hes gonna be allot harder work than the other 2

it always seems like im rushing off here to do house work, anybody would think i lived in a huge house and not a council house

tasha22 · 29/01/2008 23:17

sorry kink cross posts, or it just took me a very long time to type mine. omg at the plastic screw, hope your feeling better. note to self 'must be careful areoound kids toys'. and what a past about mums, everyone.xxx

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 29/01/2008 23:42

Bloody hell Kinki! God what a huge relief for you given the family history and all! You must feel like a huge weight has been lifted, not to mention not having constant breathing difficulties. I'm really chuffed for you!

Do pop along and meet the girls if you can (I can't make it unfortnately as I'm in the north west, much as I'd like to!) I find meeting new people incredibly difficult since my confidence is on the floor but since forcing myself to be a bit more sociable I've made a few mum friends and god knows what I was expecting as they're all really nice! Just wish I was a bit closer to the rest of the august ladies, I think I'm the only one in this area of the UK actually.

Hey Tash, sorry to hear lo has an infection- is it at the site of the operation? Hope he's ok. God, it never rains but it pours, eh? One of these days you'll get a rest!

Know what you mean about the housework seeming enough for a mansion- I don't even know where it all comes from, we seem to have fifty thousand plates and twenty thousand towels to wash!

My2Weegirls · 30/01/2008 09:02

kinki - thank goodness they found something (i mean that in a good way). that's incredible that they didn't believe you - they obviously need to review their procedures. did they do x-rays when you had pneumonia? bet you must be so relieved? have you kept the plastic screw ???? and i'm in same position all my RL friends still have both their parents.

tasha - your poor ds - hope he's better soon. is he grumpy with it? and oh no to ds2 starting the tantrum stage just now - could he not have waited a week . dd2 is much better back to her happy cheeky self

both dds slept not too bad last night (dd2 down at 7.30 up at 2.45 then back to sleep till 7.30 and dd1 slept from 7.45 till 6.20 when DP got up for work) so actually feel like i've had some sleep.

james i'm sure you don't smell - but just in case check behind your ears for some broccoli and cheese puree . hope your allergies are better today and getting beter for tomorrow.

housework - i've decided to forget about it till they are both at school then at least if i do tidy it will stay tidy for a few hours and not just minutes.

well off to get covered in baby porridge....

leifmum · 30/01/2008 09:20

kinki i'm so pleased everything went well! must be a huge relief! frightening that it wasn't picked up on before, especially as you told doctors you thought you'd inhaled somehing. glad it's sorted now though

james my best friend has just moved up to blackpool and my dh's family are from lancashire. i'll let you know if we're ever up there. are you near blackpool?

sorry to hear lo's suffering tasha. hope the abs kick in soon and he feels better. how's the feeding going?

gave dd a bickipg for the first time yesterday. wasn't a huge success unlike the avocado which was a huge success! never realised just how vividly green it can make your clothes, carpet, walls etc...

i need tips on getting to sleep. even though i'm shattered i just cannot seem to switch off at the mo. tried the ususal bath, hot drink, reading to wind down etc. anyone got good remedies? might try one of those herbal sleep things. anyone used them before?

beautiful sunshine here so hope to go on long walk leter and see if being physically exhausted helps too!

hope it's sunny where you all are too x

loler · 30/01/2008 11:49

Hello everyone - Just caught up on the thread but have complete nappy brain and have forgotten everything!

Kinki - wow- didn't realise you could inhale anything that big! Must have hurt!

Banana - did you say that you lived near Shrewsbury? I live about an hour away from shrewsbury. My patch at work was Telford and Shrewsbury for a while.

My Dh got home from Eygpt last night. Was nice to have someone in RL to talk to in the evening. Got used to having the bed to myself though (well apart from ds2!).

Lovely and sunny here too - have just come back from feeding the ducks, well we went to look at the ducks and ds1 eat all the bread!

tasha22 · 30/01/2008 12:20

yea his mouth is infected and it was just lucky i picked up on it, im so that he isnt getting any after care cause how the hell would i know if it is healing well? im not a doctor. hes feeding anything from 50mls to 120mls but ususlly only 120mls twice in 24 hours then little bits that i force into him while he struggles in my arms really not nice. glad your lo is back to herself my2weegirls, its terrible when they are sick.
james nobody near me either and nobody answers in the mn local
its quite cold here, had to nip out this morn to get milk and electric, ran out at 9am, i hate when that happens.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 30/01/2008 12:25

Morning- ooh afternoon guys! Where did that hour go????

Not in Blackpool or Shrewsbury I'm afraid, I'm in Wrexham on the welsh border. Tasha's even further away from everyone else so that must mean she really smells!

Having a mixed bag of a day so far: Got some clothes through from my catalogue today in a smaller size than usual which was nice, started work on my new job last night, won't go into too much detail as it's fiddly freelance IT/web design from home but it looks like it might be enough to bring in a fulltime wage which is great.

In less fab news, Dad still hasn't been over to take the old broken sofa to the tip as he said he would so it's lying rejected and soggy on the postage stamp of dog poo studded gravel that constitutes our front garden (bloody mini-dogs that can squeeze through the gaps in our gate) I called the council to see if they'd take it and they said it'd be £20 and 5 working days, so will have to extra guilt trip Dad into shifting it, as it's getting embarassing.

Anyway, the sun is shining (a fairly rare occurence in Wales don'tchaknow) so I think I'll chuck J in the pushchair and go for a walk. Bye for now...

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 30/01/2008 12:28

poo, x posts tasha. Sorry to hear about the infection, hope he's better soon. Very trying time for you I'm sure, try to rope in as much help as you can with the boys, will your mum/aunt come round to give you a little respite?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 30/01/2008 12:34

Oh, and much as I'm loathed to promote the rival site try the local section of netmums, as it seems to be a bit more userfriendly and I've had a few responses off there. Don't worry I haven't joined their forums. I save all my rambling just for you lucky, lucky people!

tasha22 · 30/01/2008 13:05

yeh i emailed one mum on the netmums local bo reply yet, that was 2 or 3 days ago.
i hope you get the sofa sorted, and its a shame it wasn't great.

GillL · 30/01/2008 13:59

Hi guys. I'm struggling to keep up these days. I only get 2 15 minute breaks and no lunch at work - my choice to enable me to leave earlier.

Didn't get home early last night. My sister was bathing her 2 dcs at my mum's before going home and, before I knew it dd was naked and climbing in with them It didn't hurt though, she only gets bathed at the weekend anyway, otherwise who knows what time she'd get to bed.

Agree it's so sad to hear about all those who have lost their mums. I feel so fortunate mine is still around but it is really sad for dh as his mum died nearly 4 years ago and never got to meet any of her 5 grandchildren. She often commented to him that she couldn't wait to have her own.

Re: the meet up. If it's on the Tuesday am then I can get to Bluewater between 10 and 10:30 after taking dd to pre-school. I'd feel a bit bad about dragging all 3 of you from Maidstone though. Anyone fancy offering their house either for Tuesday pm or Monday? That way you only have a short trip and I'll come to you. Sagpuss - if we're not at Bluewater Tuesday am then don't worry about having ds, I'll bring dd with me for him to play with.

Hope you get a response from your netmum soon tasha.

Got to get back to work. I've got a terrible headache, hope it goes soon

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 30/01/2008 14:05

James is chewing ecstatically on a chunk of cathedral city- he absolutely LOVES it. I'm pretending there's no mess! lalalaaa... I might give him a finger of cheese on toast tomorrow with his lunch since he likes it so much.

Better go he just flung a morsel of mangled cheese behind the tv.

tasha22 · 30/01/2008 20:06

yeah you might as well bung them in all together gill, you should see my house at bath time its like a convere belt
yay, i got a reply from netmums, i think i rambled on a bit in the reply lol im so nervous. all dc's in bed, im off for a coffee

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 31/01/2008 08:33

Morning folks, I'm off to mums n babies in a bit- very nervous! and what's more it's peeing it down so I'm going to get a soaking since I can't hold a brolly and steer the pushchair, so going to look like a drowned rat when I get into town. Bums bums bums.

Tasha, great to hear you got a response from someone in your area, don't be nervous, we all like you, there's no reason why she wouldn't! How's lo today? are the antibiotics helping?

Gill, is that tooth through yet? and how's your head today? better I hope.

Back later, with goss. x

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 31/01/2008 09:09

Oh the meetup is cancelled because of the weather. I wonder if I can persuade James to go back to bed....

lizziemun · 31/01/2008 10:12

Morning James

I'm not surprised it's been cancelled i haven't taken Lizzie (dd1) to preschool today as it is a half hour walk for us to get there. I hate the wind i can remember my sister being blown into the road when she was little. I didn't think it was worth us getting soaking wet and blown about.

I took Lexie (dd2) to be weighed on tuesday and she has only put on 1lb in six weeks although she is 20wks she hasn't doubled her birth weight yet. The HV asked if i knew why she isn't putting on any weight i said yes she doesn't eat (still only having 5 5oz bottles a day, and fighting every feed) so she has said wean her slowly.

Anyway i hope you all have a nice day.
