This juggling motherhood / work thing is crap, isn't it!!? I neeeeeed to get a job for Jan andI just can't ifnd one - I have been rejected from numerous supermarkets and shops and now I am filling in an application form for a Clercial position in a local school - THERE'S NO PERSON SPECIFICATION ON THE WEBSITE AND THE CLOSING DATE IS MONDAY!!!!!!! ARGH!!!!! I've tried 'phoning them andtheir 'phone is permentantly engaged, so I have emailed them .... arse.

runnyhabbit · 08/11/2007 11:35

Pesha Meant to say, I think you're sil is out of order. I hate to admit this, but I'm a little bit like her, but only with dh family, and I certainly don't expect a certain amount to be spent on the boys. Its just that dh family (including the pil) will buy crap for the boys. Unless I point them in the right direction
(not that you would buy crap presents, iyswim, bugger, shall I start digging, lol, )

StealthPolarBear · 08/11/2007 11:39

sol, I'm fairly sure you know better than me but I always thought after ML you were entitled to an equivalent job with the same T&Cs, is that not right?

StealthPolarBear · 08/11/2007 11:41

dippy can you find any similar jobs with person specs?
Have you had feedback as to why you've been rejected?
Keep going - you will find one just as you're giving up

CaptainDippy · 08/11/2007 11:41

Don't worry Runny, I am permenantely covered in scum!!

Bramshott · 08/11/2007 11:44

Rushing by before getting N and a friend from school to quickly say:

SOL - arse, arse, arse that your boss is being crap. Stand firm and I'm sure you'll sort it.

KHIN - hope you are doing a bit better

OOoggs, Maveta and all having nighttime traumas - feeling for you, and hope you have a better one tonight

CD - hope you can get the info on the job. You are such a super-organised person that I'm sure you'll find something.

Runny - glad you said that about only feeding morning and night, O is the same and I was worrying she wasn't getting enough milk.

WO/GMM - thanks for the update on Vio. Reminded me to get off my backside and donate to DEBRA, which I have just done.

Liath - have emailed you about Secret Santa, but don't worry if it's all sorted

Ummmm, off to carry on with the juggling thing! May not be on tomorrow, so have a good weekend all.

xxxxx

zazas · 08/11/2007 11:46

Hello everyone. Just thought I would pop in to say hi. Have had a flick through to see if all is OK - which I hope it is?

We are doing OK here - slightly manic at times but coping. I am very happy though as yesterday S was given the all clear with regard to kidney reflux at the hospital. Poor thing has had 3 UTI infections in the last 9 weeks (including last week when we were in Amsterdam on my own with her - no fun!) and it has been a roll of fevers / antibiotics / hospital / Dr visits / sore bottoms. Still on antibiotics until Feb when she has another scan but looking OK. On top of that we have sold our house and are desperately house hunting - or we will be homeless at Christmas

Looking forward to moving as we have SO out grown this house and S needs a room - we are co-sleeping which has been lovely but I think we could all do with some space. She is a bf monster and would feed all night if I allowed it! Best thing though for a baby who suffers from urinary tract infections though so maybe she just knows she needs it

Are using a childminder now which is going well - only one morning a week until the new year but it is a start. Trying to get into the office instead of working from home but last week ended up been a birthing partner for a friend who was in labour instead of going to work! It was an amazing experience and I so enjoyed it - although I felt her pain!

OK enough about me! Rain has stopped so I had better get ready to get out - we are going a bit stir crazy....

mammyjo · 08/11/2007 12:02

Hi zazas, lovely to see you. Great news about S too. Good luck with the house hunting!

Elkie, sorry to hear you are having a tough time of things again. You really will get through it even though it may not feel that way now. You are doing a fab job and D is so lucky to have you as his mummy. You are doing the best thing and trying to get out every day. I used to go demented staying in, and being out in the fresh air always made me feel better. You are doing so well, look after yourself xxxx

SOL, I was just wondering about the hours thing. We had a staff nurse who worked 7.5 hour shifts. The rest of the ward was changing to a 12 hour shift system which he was not happy to do. It turned out that because he had worked those hours for a number of years, the employer had no right to change them. I dont know if this would be the same for you, and its probably teaching you to suck eggs, but thought I would mention it.

Runny, sorry to hear you are having a tough time again too. We will have to meet up for a coffee again soon. When are you back to work? Very of your holiday too. I have had brochures in the house for weeks, but have got no further than browsing! Was also thinking of Majorca. I love it there, especially the quieter little places with real spanish food, not pie and chips!!

Maveta, I really feel for you. When ds was little my dh used to go to rugby training two nights a week and night school for two other nights. Felt like I was permanently on my own and I hated it.

elkiedee · 08/11/2007 12:03

zazas, being a birthing partner must have been sooo exciting, hope your friend and her baby are doing well.

CD, are you trying the school office, or is there anyone else - the Council's education or general personnel/recruitment? Or has that been outsourced/downsized out of existence? All those other employers are really missing out, they don't know what they're missing.

My pre baby job, despite my age and having been there years, is really a job not a career. I think I will appreciate it more when I go back, and that's good. I have colleagues who seem desperately unhappy at work and have much less it seems out of work to look forward to. But it will be about getting out of the house and earning money (a decent wage for the job, but not much left when I've paid for everything and especially childcare), and probably missing D terribly.

SOL, if the business "need" is different from your 3 day week, is there any way you could do the extra, and be paid of course, but without the 12 mile journey and the additional childcare costs? I know you've been doing some stuff from home. With all the commitment you've shown to your employer, they'd be a fool to make you feel that you can't carry on with your job. Fingers crossed it works out for you.

PillockOfTheCommunity · 08/11/2007 12:16

visting schools today, one down, 2 more to go .............

mammyjo · 08/11/2007 12:36

Have just been filling in an online application for a new job!! Eeeekkk!

Sexonlegs · 08/11/2007 12:46

Hi all, and thank you so much for your words of support.

MJ, employers can vary contracts, as long as they give enough notice.

One of the Snr Managers who I am close to, has emailed me to say she has recommended to my boss that I carry on with 3 days. So, fingers crossed it will all be fine.

Zaza's your life is packed isn't it! Delighted to hear S is ok. Good luck with the house hunting. Seems a few are doing the same atm.

Runny, sorry to hear you are feeling how you are. I think it is perfectly natural for us to have meltdowns. If you stop and actually think about the responsibilities/duties etc we have on our plates.

CD, I think you should press for some feedback. You have retail experience ffs.

Hi to everyone I have not mentioned. Laundry needs sorting - how exciting is that!?

God, I am on a roll today - RIGHTS FOR WOMEN!!!!! RAH RAH RAH!!

Sexonlegs · 08/11/2007 12:53

Thanks btw oooggs, I he is gorgeous but then we all hae mummy goggles dont we

oooggs · 08/11/2007 15:05

oh mammyjo - with dts sleeping (or not) there is no way we could stay away and all sleep in the same room so we are going to Exeter for the day and then to a local chinese resturant for tea with the children.

I have stored all the info you sent me cos hoping to do that when sleeping is sorted around Easter (if sleeping is sorted by then )

CaptainDippy · 08/11/2007 15:17

It will be, oooggs - Positivity!

Awwwww, GMM - how completely yummy is he!!!? Bless!

Eddas · 08/11/2007 15:24

Hi everyone, all I can remember is:

SOL glad your work sorted themselves out and let you stay as you were but too!

GMM, I love that photo he is truely gorgeous. I know what you mean about mummy goggles When I took ds for his 6 week check my doctor said 'oh he's gorgeous, some babies look like rats but he's gorgeous' and That doctor (a lady) had 4 under 4 at one point said she'd have had more but it all literally fell out. Possibly TMI within 2 minutes of meeting her

back on the diet again today. I will conquer this bad eating habit

CaptainDippy · 08/11/2007 15:30

LOL @ the "rats" comment - I do have to agree Not all babies are attractive, P is definitely not the prettiest of my babies - she is v.cute, with all her flubber and her sweet little grin; but she has practically no hair, bad cradle cap, big nose and she smells. Her saving grace is the lovely big blue eyes she has inherited from big sis / my dad.......
