Hi everyone! I made a new thread as we were at the end of the last one. A new thread for the new year! I changed the title as we don’t have newborns anymore!

Could I ask how much water everyone's giving there LO's? I give Ivy a few sips with meals but not any other time. She's having days where she does not want milk hardly at all and others where she drinks ok. Today she had an early feed at 5am and then only half an ounce at 11 followed by 2.5 ounces at 3. She did have porridge this morning which I loosen to get more milk in her and just sips of water at lunch.
Not sure if 8 month sleep regression is slipping in but she's now fighting every nap and her wake windows are crazy long 🤦🏻‍♀️

MrsMarrio · 27/02/2021 16:55

@Busylizzie85 are you breast or bottle feeding? And how many meals and how many milk feeds?
I will fill Rowans water bottle up and offer to him all through the day. He will typically drink 2oz but some days he will only drink a sip. I find that when he is ready to drop a bottle he will drink hardly anything out of his milk feeds throughout the day, then wakes up in starving all through the night. He’s going through this at the moment dropping from 4 to 3 bottles. He had 3 bottles yesterday but I’ve got a feeling he will wake up for a 4th tonight as the dogs woke him up from his afternoon nap early so everything has now moved earlier Angry

Picklesbaby · 27/02/2021 17:01

@Busylizzie85 . I offer with all meals and he will drink a bit more before bedtime. Jjs milk intake has also dropped in the day (not night sadly ) so we’re on lots of yogurts and I made him a milk ice lollly 😅. 🌺 handhold for the 8 month regression is in full swing here also, naps were the one thing we were doing right !! hes refused his second nap today I’m dreading tonight.

Busylizzie85 · 27/02/2021 17:05

@MrsMarrio she now on formula during the day and breast at night as I have been trying very slowly to wean her over to the bottle. She normally has 3 bottles a day and breast first thing in the morning,
She's always been difficult with feeds and often fed for only a few mins so I made the decision at 6 months to move her over to formula but it's so hit and miss again. I think I need to change the schedule around but it's hard to adjust when trying to get three meals in and naps.
Not sure if I'm feeding to much solids so she's not milk hungry, I'm beginning to doubt my instincts and worry about everything!

MrsMarrio · 27/02/2021 17:28

@Busylizzie85 I totally get you I breast fed and topped up with formula up until Rowan was 17 weeks. I desperately wanted to breastfeed but Rowan was born 9lb8oz so midwives said he would scream all day in the beginning because he would need more milk but then he also had low blood sugar so had to fed formula on day one to stabilise him then unfortunately the damage was done and my milk supply never caught up. But if felt like I was forever breastfeeding, then formula feeding, then pumping all day I was exhausted! I think once your LO is completely over to formula you will have more control as you know exactly what they are getting and there is direct guidance for how much formula the should be getting too. With meals I don’t think you can feed too much as their appetite leads the way. Like if Rowan doesn’t want to eat or has had enough he literally has a tantrum in his high chair. Maybe the milk feeds need tweaking like dropping another breastfeed as this may make her hungry/thirsty for her usual bottle

Busylizzie85 · 27/02/2021 19:07

@Picklesbaby I'm getting lots of steps in trying to get her to sleep for her second nap of the day in the pram! I always try to go the first in her crib but it's taking longer and longer every day she's gone from 2.5 hours to about 3.5 suddenly.

Thanks @MrsMarrio I'll keep persevering and hope she'll just adapt to it! We were on a good thing and she was only waking up 2 times a night for a feed with nice long stretches of sleep but last night was back to 3 at random times.

Picklesbaby · 27/02/2021 21:45

@mrssunshinexxx Oh my congrats!!! 🥰Didn’t you also have a emcs? does your scar feel healed enough for a pregnancy ?😬

mrssunshinexxx · 27/02/2021 22:38

@Picklesbaby thank you! No it was a semi elective they say to wait 6 month before getting pregnant and it's been 8 so should be fine 🤞

UKtoSK · 28/02/2021 00:35

Congratulations @mrssunshinexxx I’m glad you didn’t have to wait long for your positive!

I’m still not giving water... should I be? I had read that they don’t need it until after a year since they’re still drinking milk, but that you can offer it with meals. I offered it with a meal last week but she got really angry about it so I haven’t bothered since. I’ll keep trying.

mrssunshinexxx · 28/02/2021 06:37

Thank you Smile me too! Yes should offer water after 6 months because their milk intake is less now on solids x

UKtoSK · 28/02/2021 09:08

Jia’s milk intake doesn’t seem to have decreased to be honest. Still exclusively breastfeeding and she still feeds quite often (especially at night 😫)

We now have a crawling baby! I predicted she would start at 7 months and she just did it with a week to spare!

mrssunshinexxx · 28/02/2021 10:00

@UKtoSK does she eat much solids? X

UKtoSK · 28/02/2021 10:31

@mrssunshinexxx she is starting to the past week or so. Like two finger strips of omelette and an ice cube size vegetable purée, or half a strawberry and a few spoonfuls of porridge. She’s never been a big eater. I’ll keep offering her water at meals now anyway for her to her used to the taste. She just got so angry last week every time I offered and then would be too upset to continue eating but I think that’s because of her teeth coming through last week.

SRS1311 · 28/02/2021 10:43

@mrssunshinexxx congrats!! Such wonderful news!

@UKtoSK we are similar, his eating hasnt been great but last week has got better and especially at tea time he is eating a lot more. His milk in take has not really slowed, I havent been offering water so far. I think I will now order a cup and start offering it as he is getting there now. What cups does everyone recommend?

We also have had teeth coming through last week or two - I got a surprise when it wasn't just one but two teeth! It's funny to see Smile

Busylizzie85 · 28/02/2021 10:54

They always come in pairs @SRS1311 I've found, pretty sure we are working on teeth 7/8 now 🤦🏻‍♀️
We use a Tommee tippee sippy cup I was recommend it by a friend who's had 3 children and found it the best. Ivy drinks from it fine but can try and take to much in at once and coughs sometimes but that's just her getting used to a different action from bottle or breast.

Smiffette · 28/02/2021 12:29

@mrssunshinexxx congratulations how exciting!!

My LO does have water with every meal and just this past week I've been offering it to her in between if we are out. I just keep a sippy cup on me, it olds 6oz but I usually fill it to 5 and she only every drinks maybe half that and some days even less...

mrssunshinexxx · 28/02/2021 13:25

Thank you ! @Smiffette @SRS1311
I think my lo is a little piggy! @UKtoSK gone from BF so much to 3 big meals a day and only 3 milk feeds and sleeping through I can't believe the change but it was good timing now no2 on route !

Picklesbaby · 28/02/2021 14:55

Those who have introduced formula , how did you do it ? X

Busylizzie85 · 28/02/2021 15:09

@Picklesbaby just start one feed at a time for at least a week or more before moving to the next feed as it takes a while for their tummy's to get used to the change as well as your boobs. I started with the bed time feed but you could do any really. 😊

Picklesbaby · 28/02/2021 15:50

@Busylizzie85 thank you .it’s daytime I’m looking at so if I do a lunchtime feed perhaps ..will Follow on milk be ok from a sippy cup ?Is it possible to only do a few feeds a week, I’ve cut my hours so He will only be nursery 2 days but I just can’t express anymore 😣

Busylizzie85 · 28/02/2021 16:07

Yeah @Picklesbaby it's fine from a sippy cup I do Ivys milk at breakfast in it! You should be able to do a few feeds a week it's all a bit trial and error as long as your milk production stays ok.

Zoey92 · 28/02/2021 16:44

Congratulations @mrssunshinexxx lovely news!

We've had an awfull weekend, woke up 4:15am yesterday morning due to LO stirring, heard an alarm ringing outside, looked & a van was on fire outside our apartment bedroom window, fire brigade were here by 4:30. I was absolutely terrified! It was deliberate too.
I've not slept at all.

I think we've also hit the 8month sleep regression, shes having her naps, but is now waking 3am & 5am for a while.
