Hi everyone! I made a new thread as we were at the end of the last one. A new thread for the new year! I changed the title as we don’t have newborns anymore!

Glad to hear that @Cornishbumpkin
How are you @Picklesbaby (is it Jamie?)
My best friend’s baby (just 3 weeks younger than mine) was admitted to hospital yesterday with an infection and high fever too. It’s so scary.

Over here we are getting our first teeth! They’re just getting ready to break through, the two middle bottom ones. Hoping that’s the reason she has been so grumpy lately. That and frustration that she can’t work out how to crawl still!

OP posts:
Gigitree · 17/02/2021 10:14

@Cornishbumpkin oh that’s such good news, so pleased for you.

@Picklesbaby how are things? Hope you guys are home now and he’s feeling lots better

@UKtoSK oooo teethies, how exciting, Grace still has none, not sure when I need to be worried?
I feel you with the crawling frustration, Grace was the same but she got there in the end and now she’s so fast and constantly going for things she shouldn’t be getting her hands on 😂 dog toys and cables mainly 🙄

How’s everyone going with weaning, have your little ones dropped many feeds?

Just wondering your thoughts on this as with everything baby related I keep seeing conflicting information.

So Grace used to have 5x 210ml bottle of milk per day, then after weaning this dropped to 4x per day. Now she would normally have one in the morning before brekki, then her brekki and then a nap, then after her nap she used to have a bottle, but recently she hasn’t been “asking” for it, so I haven’t offered. But she didn’t slowly have less and less, but she just didn’t “ask” for it so I didn’t offer. But then I think if I offered it she would drink the full amount (sorry if this doesn’t make sense). So when she doesn’t have this bottle she goes from brekki at 7.30/8 until lunch at 11.30/12 with no milk or food.
It’s confusing because NHS say babies don’t need snacks until 1 year, but then others say to offer a snack at this time or day, and then others say to still offer milk at this time of day 🤯

What do you think I should do? Offer the milk and see if she wants it? Just give her a snack/drink instead?

Busylizzie85 · 17/02/2021 10:53

@Gigitree I'm not sure what we are doing either re feeds! I have managed to ween ivy on to formula during the day now but she's stopped wanting her morning feed at 7 (still on 2-3 boob feeds a night) so she has her breakfast at 8ish and then 4-5 ounces at 10:30 and then lunch at 12, followed by another 5-6 ounces at 2:30, dinner at 5 and then bottle of anything up to 8 ounces at around 6:30-7 I worry she's not having enough but then she's feeding still at night! She never complains in a hungry way so I'm hoping it's normal. She's also been a bit difficult food wise refusing the savoury and only wanting the fruit on and off!
I agree there is lots of conflicting reading around feeds and snacks etc 🤷🏻‍♀️

SRS1311 · 17/02/2021 15:07

Glad all babies are on the mend Smile

@UKtoSK aww us too, I can see the bottom two coming through and one in particular has just broken through the gum line...although it's so hard to see properly!

@Gigitree I wouldnt be worried about teeth, they seem to pop through whenever - I've heard of babies not getting a first tooth till well over 8 months and some not till a year!

The bottle / weaning thing has me confused too. He also wont cry for a bottle but I've just been offering it at normal times and he still takes it. I thought he would become disinterested but it hasnt happened. He has 6oz 4 times a day and a 9oz bottle before bed ! I've started on dinner this week, so 3 meals a day now. But hes still not eating a huge amount just trying bits. It's hard to know what to do and whether I should reduce his milk right down and then he might be more hungry for his solid food? But then I dont want him getting hungry / grumpy/ waking at night...so confusing!

We have transitioned to 2 naps this week and it's so much better. He has two long naps of about 1hr 30 mins and I dont have to battle to get him to take a cat nap later in the afternoon!

Picklesbaby · 17/02/2021 20:11

Jamie is getting there thanks ladies. Long few days with little sleep . We’ve resorted to co sleeping😶 I have a feeling I will be putting sleep training on the back burner until summer lol. He’s had his first solids again today bless. Antibiotic nappies are something else 🤮. While we were at the hospital they referred us to have his squint assessed. I assumed it was something that would sort itself out but apparently not !

@Cornishbumpkin so glad to hear xx

@Gigitree we don’t have any teeth either , dd had a full set by 1!

UKtoSK · 18/02/2021 01:22

@Gigitree my friend’s baby didn’t get her first teeth until after she turned one! So I wouldn’t worry. I’ve never heard of a baby never getting teeth lol although I’m sure it’s out there on google if you search (so don’t search lol)

@SRS1311 yes same, it’s so hard to see but I noticed them when she was crying the other day and I can feel one with my finger now. My friend says it takes a week or two from this point to really come through!

@Picklesbaby glad he’s improving. We’ve decided not to sleep train for now (if ever) too and her sleep has been improving on its own recently. Maybe Jamie will too once he’s feeling better. I really think sleep is just developmental.

Those with teeth - are you brushing with toothpaste or no? I have read a lot of conflicting information about when it’s safe/necessary to start using toothpaste (in tiny amounts).

OP posts:
Busylizzie85 · 18/02/2021 09:06

@UKtoSK I use Colgate baby toothpaste but literally just a tiny scrape! It's hard to actually brush the teeth Ivy mostly sucks the brush but it gets them used to doing it twice a day in a routine 😊

Smiffette · 18/02/2021 09:31

@UKtoSK I've decided to also not sleep train.... I've dipped in and out and really nothing seems to be working so I will leave her to figure it out. Some nights are good with 3 wakes whilst others can double that. I figured she will get there.

LO is 8 months now and no teeth, I've noticed a change in her gums so I think they maybe on the way!

Gigitree · 18/02/2021 19:05

@busylizze85
Glad it’s not just me then 😂 I’m basically going to keep offering at the normal times i think unless I start to see it impacting her appetite in which case I might try to swap
Things around and do solids first then milk after, just see how things go for a bit longer, I’m sure it will all change again by this time next week 😂
Sounds like she’s having a good amount to me but I go by ml not oz so I get confused with the oz. I know that they say at this age they should be having around 600ml per day but Grace is having anywhere from 540-780 depending on the day, but I guess it will fluctuate depending on how much she eat at each meal.

@SRS1311 thank you, I think I just worry about the teeth thing because my family always ask if she’s got her first tooth yet and my mum in particular makes it seem like it’s really odd that she doesn’t have them yet.
Yes I’d expected Grace to naturally start to have less formula, but I guess she must be hungry if she’s having it, they still need it till they’re 1 don’t they.
I’m the same, I don’t want her to be hungry and start waking up more at night because she’s hungry, like everything with babies there’s no simple answer it’s all grey area 😂
Grace is also mostly on 2 naps per day now, unless her 2nd one is short for some reason then I either take her out in the car to get her to have a quick cat nap or being bedtime earlier. I agree it’s a relief that nap is mostly gone as it was always such a battle.
@picklesbaby so glad to hear Jamie is doing better. How are you feeling? Grace had to be referred to have a squint assessed recently. The doctor noticed it when I sent some pics to him as she has a small strawberry birth mark under her eye.
They have said she doesn’t have a squint, but that basically babies have an underdeveloped nose bridge (essentially a squishy mid face 😂) and this can cause their eyes to look like they’re turning in sometimes as it’s our nose bridge that helps to draw our focus forwards.
Glad to hear Grace has a fellow toothless friend in Jamie 😀

Thank you @uktosk haha you’re so right, thankfully I have managed to refrain from googling it, but I did see something about vitamin d deficiency being a cause for babies teeth to come in late, I took the vit d supplement through pregnancy and Grace has it in her formula but I have just found out I have a severe vitamin d deficiency, so now I’m worrying that has caused her teeth to be delayed in coming through 😢😢😢

UKtoSK · 18/02/2021 22:16

@Gigitree oh that’s interesting. My friend whose baby didn’t get teeth until after 12 months was living in Singapore and I’m sure got much more vitamin D than anyone in winter in the U.K... haha. If it’s in her formula then I’m sure she’s fine. My other friend here didn’t get their first tooth until 9 months. I’m actually surprised Jia is getting hers so early!

OP posts:
mrssunshinexxx · 19/02/2021 07:43

@UKtoSK yea you need to use a small amount of baby toothpaste and brush twice a day and actually distract them with something else and give them a quick brush for them ( my sister is a hygienist so she's big on what to do and keeping teeth looked after )

Gigitree · 19/02/2021 08:58

@UKtoSK thank you that makes me feel lots better! I think I’m just surrounded by early teethers so it seems like more of an issue than it is. I’m sure once she get grizzly once they start popping through I’ll wish they weren’t 😂

Picklesbaby · 19/02/2021 09:45

@Gigitree I’m feeling better than the past few months actually thank you . ..How are you ?. Is grace crawling yet ?. Yes I can’t even feel a tooth yet I’m just assuming he won’t be a gummy bear all his life 😂. That’s good, We’ve just had a video call with gp, she said it’s mild&they should be able to fix it no problem! So just wait for referal letter to come through now x

Gigitree · 19/02/2021 10:32

@Picklesbaby oh good, yeah I’m doing good thanks. Yes Grace is super speedy crawling everywhere, it’s exhausting 😂 she always wants to get her hands on things she shouldn’t 😂 and Zack our Labrador isn’t sure what to make of her, but she LOVES him so it’s hard trying to keep them safe from each other 😅
Is Jamie crawling?
That’s good news re: the squint, not sure what they do to fix mild ones? Is it just glasses or an eye patch?
My sister had a severe one when she was little and it had to be fixed with surgery when she was 2 so it’s such a relief to know Grace won’t have to have that.

Picklesbaby · 19/02/2021 11:14

@Gigitree awww I bet it’s lovely ! Dd is always egging baby on But no..🙈 he literally just spins himself around in circles. !! He can’t get on his knees 🤷🏻‍♀️
She said they are normally genetic/run in family’s I don’t know anyone with one . Oh bless her, I bet your so glad then&Yes a Patch she said, can’t imagine how they get babies to keep them on lol

Zoey92 · 19/02/2021 16:26

Hi everyone, how's everyone & their LO doing?

@Picklesbaby so sorry to read about your LO i hope you're both doing ok & sending love.

Hows everyones LO getting on with crawling? Amelia is just not interested 😂 she's such a chilled out baby, too chilled really. Shes rolls back and forth, sits on her own no problem & gets onto her front from sitting no problem, she'd sooner stand than try and crawl, she loves her walker too.

MrsMarrio · 19/02/2021 17:51

@Zoey92 Rowan is also worming his way around in circles. Just not getting his knees under himself hopefully he cracks the crawling soon. I don’t think it will be long but then again he got teeth 3 months after I first thought he was teething.
His second tooth has just popped through, sometimes they can take a while. He also bit my knee earlier on so I prefer him toothless!
I was supposed to return to work on the 22nd of March but the manager has said today I may be furloughed. It’s an added stress as I was hoping to go back to a full wage as I was furloughed before maternity leave also. So it’s been over 12 months at a reduced wage. Hopefully I’ll still have a job at the end of this!
But I will love any extra time I get with Rowan at home.

mrssunshinexxx · 19/02/2021 19:02

anyone else's baby still got cradle cap o can't get rid of it ?! Been using dentinox and brushing out with a comb when wet

Busylizzie85 · 19/02/2021 19:59

Yeah @mrssunshinexxx ivy still has it, it's not as bad as it was but it's still there!

Smiffette · 19/02/2021 20:20

@mrssunshinexxx I started using Dentinox a couple weeks ago, it is definitely going not as quick as I thought but it's getting there.

Picklesbaby · 19/02/2021 20:52

@mrssunshinexxx I used this then it literally falls of the next morning!

mrssunshinexxx · 19/02/2021 21:49

Thank you @Picklesbaby

Zoey92 · 19/02/2021 22:55

@mrsmarrio
She's exactly the same, just hasnt quite tucked her knees under enough yet.
Her two bottom teeth are just about fully in now soo cute when she smiles.
Crazy I'll have an 8month old next week!

Im sort of the same boat too work wise.
I have a salon so have not been at work since christmas, hoping to get some sort of date on when we can reopen on Monday when he makes his announcement.
I just cant wait to be able to get out and about with LO properly, whenever I'm out for walks with her & i bumped into people i know she absolutely freaks out because she's no idea who they are & i know it's down to lack of interaction but nobody ever knew the 1st year of our LO start to life would mainly be lockdown i do feel for them

Magpie21 · 20/02/2021 10:31

Hi everyone, Hope you are all well. Just catching up!

My LO is standing up against furniture (and tables, people, hoovers you name it). This development came 1 week after crawling! I was shocked. Beware ladies!! My housework has taken a hit! 😅

Second bottom tooth came through this week...we had our worst teething day ever. Nurofen just didn't really touch it. I guess days like that are going to happen when the teeth are cutting the gums. @UKtoSK how did your LO get on with those teeth?

Last night LO was up for 2.5 hours from 11pm last night 🥺 Very out of character..would wake up 3 mins after being put down repeatedly. Same with her nap this morning...feels like the start of an 8 month regression maybe. She'll be 8 months at the end of Feb.

@Gigitree re weaning we are in 3 meals a day (mostly spoon feeding textured foods so she is taking a fair amount) and she has only dropped 1 bottle so far. We are on 4 x 7oz bottles..
