RG- yes I did have lots of baths about 8 over 3 days. It gave me something to do and helped for a bit. I guess its like a birthing pool might try that next time.

I have been dressing Anabel in gowns which are perfect as you can pull them up to change nappies. Mum said they use them in NZ for newborns but I can't find any to buy here. I have hand me downs from my sister. They are so cute. Just need to undo the singlet. My mum knitted her some woolen singlets as well. So she wears a cotton singlet, woolen singlet and gown and then I wrap her in muslin and blanket. I only change her every 24 hours or if she makes a mess. I have bathed her twice so far and will again today. She is a week old tomorrrow. I'll probably use gowns until after christmas at least and then start to dres her during the day and stick to the gowns at night. I did dress her in a stretch and grow the other day but the buttons were so fiddley and it took ages to change nappies.

RGPargy · 28/11/2007 17:15

Choc - Glad everything went smoothly today for you. No sign of any action from me tho i'm afraid, except for really heavy feeling in my pelvis. I know LO was 4/5 engaged at my last mw appointment so maybe she is fully engaged now?

Iris - glad you are feeling better. It's amazing how much better you can feel after a trip out of the house - even just to the shops!

Fiona - What's a singlet? Is that like a vest? The gowns sound like a good idea, although i dont think they're very popular in the UK.

fiona76 · 28/11/2007 17:26

Sorry yes vest. Its the kiwi coming out in me.

AnnainNZ · 28/11/2007 19:43

Fiona - singlets - I knew what you meant! Had a few different words to get used to when I moved here - jug (kettle), chips (crisps) and domes (fasteners on vests - I'd always called them poppers).

I have about 5 of those gowns for Amelia, they're good - no buttons to undo - especially good for middle of the night nappy changes. I'm hoping Amelia still fits into them early next year when it's getting hot as I reckon they will keep her cool by allowing a bit of air to circulate.

RGPargy · 28/11/2007 19:53

"thongs" is one of my favourite Antipidian (sp?) words!

AnnainNZ · 28/11/2007 20:52

Ah yes, thongs for sandals/flip-flops. A girl I worked with over here thought "The Thong Song" ("Let me see that thong...thong, thong, thong, thong, thong!") was about a guy wanting girls to wear flip-flops!

buzzybee · 29/11/2007 06:08

Fiona, do you mean like these nighties (gowns)? website Scroll down a bit.

I agree they're fairly common here in NZ but mostly used at night.

But flip-flops are jandals here in NZ Anna! Thongs is an Aussie term - although I accept that most kiwis would think you meant jandals if you said thongs.

Also togs for bathing suit (swimmers in Aussie).

Sorry to crash girls, sitting here in kiwiland hoping my LO comes early!! (37 weeks tomorrow)

RGPargy · 29/11/2007 08:33

Anna - hahahaha!!!! lol @ flip-flop wearing teeth-kissing girls in bikinis!!

Buzzy - ah thanx for the insight!! I wanted my LO to come early too but alas, here i sit at 40+2 with still no sign......

Gowns are like the nighties. My mum bought me over about 4 of them and they are all I use so far. One was used by my brother and sister when they were babies. Anabel is tiny so they are easier to use. i swaddle her to keep her snuggly.

My DH is from south africa and the funniest word they use is robot for traffic lights. so they say 'turn left at the robot'- classic.

Buzzybee- I have already received 2 buzzybees as presents for Anabel! Hope your LO comes soon, are you are true blue kiwi or an import?

Anabel had her passport photo taken today she is so cute in it luckily as it will be with her for 5 years.

fiona76 · 29/11/2007 17:14

By the way there are loads more babies turning up over on the due thread.

RGPargy · 29/11/2007 17:38

Sorry Fiona, i was slacking

buzzybee · 29/11/2007 19:19

Hi Fiona (waves)
I'm a true blue kiwi but lived in London for about 3 years including when I had DD1 and got hooked on MN then! Now back in NZ and awaiting arrival of DD2 after 5 year gap. Due date of 22 Dec which means I'm exactly 37 weeks and feel at liberty now to hope she comes SOON.

I have about 4 of those nighties - mine have poppers down the front for even easier access. They are great for night-time nappy changes and we used them for DD for months - her feet just stuck out the bottom more! Mind you also used a baby gro-bag from about 3 months so there was no risk of her feet getting cold which might be a bit of a concern otherwise once they start kicking the blankets off!

Hope you're all enjoying your babies, I look forward to joining you soon

fiona76 · 29/11/2007 20:56

I've been in London for 7 years. I meet DH over here in my first year over here he's from SA so it's easier to stay here. We are moving to SA next year.

My sister sent me a marino sleeping bag thingy so I will use that from 4 months or so.

Jossiejump · 29/11/2007 21:33

Hello I'm comong to join you with my little man who is one week old tomorrow

iris66 · 30/11/2007 07:02

oooooooooooh - congratulations JARM !!!- a baby came on my birthday after all! YAY!!!

Hi jossiejump there are quite a few of us now aren't there How's your lovely bundle doing? and have you decided on a name (sory if I missed it - I couldn't find a post where you've said)

fiona - I love the sleepingbags. DS1 still sleeps in one (figured it would prevent him learning how to climb out of his cot - so far so good)

I had a fab day yesterday (even managed to dye my hair so I don't look like a greying harridan anymore) and Elliot, the little darling, slept for 6 hours last night This sleeping lark is such a shock after DS1. I do hope it's a "due in November" baby trait

RGPargy · 30/11/2007 10:03

Iris - oooo great stuff on Elliot sleeping for 6 hours!! yay!!!!!

fiona76 · 30/11/2007 11:59

Anabel also had a brilliant night sleep last night she settled at 9pm woke at 1am and feed for about an hour then woke again at 6am. I feel amazing as she has been awake the past 3 or 4 nights for hours on end crying. So last night was a real treat hopefully she will be in that pattern from now.

When can you have sex again? I feel fine but still bleeding lightly. I'm a little scared it will hurt or feel weird but feel very loved up in general at the moment so wondering when is time to resume liaisons. Anabel is only 8 days old but its my birthday on sunday...

RGPargy · 30/11/2007 12:48

Great news Fiona!!

Not sure about when to resume liaisons Give your HV a buzz??

Happy birthday for Sunday!

Hello all,

Well having spent days trying to catch up on what is happening on here and failing totally I have finally read this thread!

We have been having a fairly hectic couple of weeks - last week we ended up back in hospital for a few days with horrible mastitis - and now DH is back at work so we are managing on our own. We had the NCT girls round for a cup of tea yesterday and are very proud of ourselves for having a social life!

Freddie is brilliant and although he wakes every 2 1/2 - 3 hours at night for a feed he goes straight back to sleep almost all the time. He is also becoming quite alert and interested in the world around him during the day which is really nice. He has put on a pound from his birthweight and now that I have stopped taking anti-biotics I am more confident about the breast feeding.

We are baby gros only so far here - and he is just moving into 0-3 months having already pretty much outgrown his newborn ones .

Anyway - waking up now but I will try again to join the conversation later!

RGPargy · 30/11/2007 14:03

FCH - sounds like you are doing fabulously, despite your stint in hospital. Hope you are feeling better after that!

Well done you and am very impressed you have a social life already!!!

Hi all

struggling to remember who said what... My DD is really insomniac... she doesn't sleep much at all! Has anyone else had this problem? Yesterday I calculated she totalled 8 hours out of 24 asleep (in short bursts); today it's been a dismal three hours since midnight! Mummy is very tired but she seems fine. Grr. I have to keep telling myself: at least she feeds very well and not constantly... and seems to latch on well of her own accord... and she is gorgeous and alert... shame about her Mummy...

LOM/RG/Loopy/Sam, any news??

Iris, Elliot sounds like a star, and Fiona so does Anabel! I am so jealous of these sleep habits! Fiona, you sound so happy. And I can't believe you had a vaginal birth and are up for sex already! I had a c-section and can't imagine it, even 2 weeks on...

OK, DD is crying now. Take care all!

RGPargy · 30/11/2007 20:23

Hi Choc!

Poor you re having an insomniac baby! I'm sure she'll eventually have to have more than 3 hours sleep a day! Good stuff with the feeding too - well done!! Hope you get some good sleep soon.

No news here i'm afraid - just painful niggles from my sweep earlier.
