LOM - sounds like you have everything sorted! Well done! Breast pads - i have to admit that i've not once worn any!! I'm really lucky in that my boobs dont leak unless i'm asleep in bed. I dont know if it's because they are hoiked up so well in my bra (they'd be down to my knees otherwise!) that they dont leak or what!

DJarm - well done on getting a nap in. I got about 30 minutes in at 10.30am - terrible! I've been having feeding frenzy days lately too. My boobs have also been soft and squishy, but then they've never really felt too engorged either. Either way, Ellie is fine with them and seems to get what she wants/needs from them. You'll be fine so dont worry.

I'm with you re Christmas. I'd rather just stay in bed with chocolate and TV but we have to try and cook dinner around Ellie and her feeding patterns as we're having DP's parents over. I'm sure we'll be fine tho - they are pretty hands on and will no doubt take over if i get bogged down with me boobs lol.

Fiona - It's reassuring to hear that your sleeping is going well. I think that just before DP goes back to work, we will probably implement some sort of night time routine. Poor DP is shattered at being woken up alot and/or not being able to sleep through the radio. He needs his rest too because of being unwell. No suggestions re the daytime tho. It's difficult at this age isnt it. They dont really know what to do with themselves. Ellie is starting to get to this phase too i think as she's been awake loads today. She seems to have had a growth spurt overnight and has lost some of that newborn baby stuff!

Silk - great news re Megan's growth!

I've still not heard anything from the MW that was meant to come round on Saturday to weigh Ellie. I'm a bit miffed at that, tbh. I have no idea how i get assigned a health visitor or go to get Ellie weighed or anything! I dont like to call the number on my notes as it's the delivery suite and i'm sure they've got more important things to worry about!!!

Home made macaroni cheese tonight - yummy!!! Heart attack central, but hey, who cares! With the amount of chocolate and mince pies i've been stuffing i'm sure my arteries wont even notice a big stodgy bowl of mac cheese!

Have a good evening everyone!

Hello all,

RE: daytime sleeping, Tyler sleeps most of the time during the day, has about 2-3 hrs awake in the 24 hrs. He feeds and goes straight back to sleep, if I try to keep him awake, he screams the place down.

Last night he slept quite well, after screaming until 1am, he slept through until 6am,then 6.30am until 8.45hrs.

I envy everyone who is able to sleep during the day, I have to sleep in, in the morning then have to struggle on until night time.

RG- i don't know if this happens where you live, but here the delivery suite MWs are available to us until the baby is 28days old.I can ring them up for advice anytime.(which I have done a few times. And usually the clinic thats nearest to you is where you would go for weights if not your GP should be able to advise. I think its auwful that the MW have not shown upto see you!

Jarm: Am with you on the Xmas front, I do not feel like it at all!

It was my first proper outing with Tyler today, and he screamed most of the time and I do not feel like doing that again.

I envy everyone who has established a sleeping routine for their LO, well doen to you ladies, I hope to join that club you soon

silkcushion · 19/12/2007 07:11

IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love my HV.

Megan had her last feed a bit later last night and went down at midnight. Woke at 3.30am for a little feed (2oz) and settled back to sleep within minutes. Has just woken up now. I am so grateful for some sleep I'm crying.

On the down side I guess it means she has reflux so I need to talk to the GP. But lots of things were better yesterday. I fed her bigger feeds during the day - so hopefully she got all she needed nutritionally before midnight. Also she had a 2 hr morning nap 8am til 10am and a lunchtime nap from 1pm til 2pm and was awake the rest of the day.

I hope it works again tonight.

Sorry for sounding so happy, especially if any of you had a crappy night but after 2 weeks of hell it feels like I've won the lottery,

sparklygothkat · 19/12/2007 08:51

callum slept from midnight till 6am!!! I had more than 3 hours sleep woohoo!

morning all

well strange night here, daniel was awake every 2hrs for a feed - i think we are hitting the 3wk growth spurt! wouldnt have minded so much but he was awake a lot during the day yesterday too! hoping today is a little more settled!

sarahloumadam · 19/12/2007 09:30

Hi all
JARM, think my LO is going through a 3 week growth spurt too - he is much more fussy than usual as well as wanting to be fed all the time . He is turning into such a pudding, his legs and arms are deliciously chubby! I find when he going through a growth spurt my boobs stay soft too cos they don't have a chance to get engorged!

Think I had a blocked milk duct yesterday cos my right boob stayed rock hard even after feeding and I was getting v.worried re mastitis but my book said to massage the lump while Adam was feeding and it seemed to do the trick. I also had a very strange smell coming from my boob and I decided I must have gangrene or something terrible and then I discovered a couple of pine needles in my bra ! So even my norks have been decorated this year.

Know what you all mean re Christmas. My mum and dad are coming to stay. I can't wait to see them and it will be the first time they have seen Adam but the thought of having to entertain guests is knackering. DH asked me what we were going to cook for them on the first night and I started sobbing - it was one decision too far!! On the bright side we will have some extra and v.willing pairs of hands to cuddle and hold his lordship. Agree RG that timing xmas dinner will be difficult, my DS opens his eyes the minute we have food in front of us!

Glad you got some sleep finally Silk ! Little Megan will be feeling better too so hopeful will be less fretful.

RGPargy · 19/12/2007 10:05

Morning ladies!

LK - hmmmm perhaps our delivery suite is available for 28 days too. I think i will ring them today in any event to find out WTF is going on with my MW and her lack of visit!!

Sounds like Tyler slept very well yesterday! Dont worry about him screaming the place down on his first trip - just make sure he's warm enough and he'll soon get used to being ferried around!

Silk - YAY!!!!!! So glad you got some good sleep with Megan. It's amazing how much brighter the world looks when you've had some decent sleep! Good luck for tonight too. Really pleased for you.

Sparkly - Yay for you too!!!!!

I'm beginning to get sleep envy!!

DJarm - Sounds like a growth spurt to me. All that frantic feeding and weird (lack of) sleeping sounds like classic signs. Hope today is better for you sweetie.

Sarah - PMSL @ your gangrene boobs!!!!! I really dont know how we're going to be dealing with Christmas dinner! Not only does Mini wake up every time i make a coffee, but she also wakes up every time i sit down with dinner too. Half the time it's just easier to eat junk because i know i'll be able to chuck it down my throat quickly or failing that, it wont go cold! But also, re Christmas dinner, DP and both his parents are veggies so i'll be cooking 2 different Christmas dinners - one veggie and one with a small turkey crown for me and DS. I probably wouldn't bother coz i know that DS isn't bothered about turkey but to me, Christmas isn't Christmas without at least one helping of turkey!! Thankfully i have two ovens (the previous owners of the house left a big 8 ring cooker thing) so one will be for the veggie food and one will be for the turkey. There wont be that much difference i suppose - just perhaps a couple of veggie sausages or summat. I just hope that i'm able to do at least some of the cooking before MIL steps in to take over if Ellie fusses or needs feeding.

Sleep patterns - i think we are establishing a pattern now. Ellie tends to wake up every 3 hours on the dot during the night, but will go longer during the day sometimes. She was up from 3.30am last night and took a bit longer than usual to finish feeding/settle. Didn't get back into bed til 5am, but then she slept through til 8am. All in all i got 6 hours sleep, albeit with an hour and a half break!

berrybliss · 19/12/2007 11:24

Hi ladies,

I rember reading over a past post about milk spots. Coby (5 weeks old now) had a few when he was born little white ones and now his whole face is covered in red spots and his skins all blotchy (like teenage acne) I'm not really that worried, its just i was hoping to take some nice pictures to frame and give to the grandparents.

Has anyone elses lo's had milk spots this bad? and how long did they take to clear up.

Thanks, p.s sorry i keep drifting in and out
Christmas and a baby are so time consuming, i'm kicking myself for not getting things sorted out sooner!

sparklygothkat · 19/12/2007 12:27

RG, I have had 3 months of 3 hourly feeds, that was the first time he has slept that well.. [tired]

OP posts:
RGPargy · 19/12/2007 13:31

Berry - no advice i'm afraid! I'm sure they'll clear up soon enough. I'm also kicking myself for not being more organised and feeling lazy when i was pg.

Sparkly - Yes i can imagine how tired you must be feeling! You deffo deserve a good night's sleep!!!

Well shortly after posting my previous message, my good MW phoned me up (the one who does water births etc) to ask if i was meant to have had a visit on Saturday. So I told her that no one had turned up etc and she said that she needed to come round to re-do Ellie's heel prick. She also weighed her and since last Wednesday, Ellie has put on a whopping 140g and is now 8lb 5oz which is just 1oz away from her birth weight. I'm really pleased because it obviously means that my bf is working!!

I'm also finally wearing my first nursing bra today and it's FAB!! For the last two weeks i've had to wear an ordinary bra and just undo it and whip out each nork at a time for feeding which has been a real pain, but now i feel like a proper nursing mother!

Because I keep drifting in and out, I tend to forget to some issues.

I must say I swear by the Avent breast pads too as I have found them to be very useful and reliable.

Was amazed yesterday to see a queue to use a feeding room. John Lewis have this nice comfy room but becoz of the festive season, with all moms out and about, it could not accomodate everyone!
Berry: Sorry no advice here, but am sure someone who has experienced this will come along with something more useful.
Loopy: I worry about how I will cope when schools reopen after Xmas, especially if Tyler continue to have this erratic sleep pattern. DH is going back to work, so I will have to get DS ready for school and drop him off!

RG-Glad to know that you have finally heard from the MW and well done re:- Ellie's weight gain. Its such good news when they gain weight isn't!

Sparkly:Wow! your night,

Tyler decided to revert to 2hrly naps through the night and now he fast asleep.Only waking for feeds and going back to sleep. No amount of noise will wake him yet at night, just fixing his blanket was good enough to wake him

DanJARMouse · 19/12/2007 15:34

loopy - its mental isnt it! Why did we bother? LOL

Im just knackered all the time, the DD's want my attention all the time, but I need to devote myself to Daniel for a lot of it!

When the boy sleeps, all I want to do is sleep, but it isnt always possible!

Cant complain really though - it will get easier ONE DAY! Dreading the next 2 weeks though as Jessica isnt at nursery..... I think I will be rocking in a corner chanting crap to myslef by the time 3rd January arrives!

Daniel is really starting to annoy me now though, cant get him to settle to sleep anywhere but his car seat.... so as soon as he is out cold we lift him out, but oh my word, all i want is to be able to put him to sleep in the cot/carrycot/cosleeper! Will try again tonight, but not holding out much hope! Fingers crossed he is just being fussy, either that or im starting to wonder about silent reflux too and he prefers to sleep slightly sitting up?

May try and raise one end of the cot tonight and see if he prefers that. Tried for 2hrs last night to get him to settle in the carrycot and then gave up, put him in the car seat - fell asleep instantly and then lifted him after 30mins!

silkcushion · 19/12/2007 17:33

it' sworth a try Jarm. Also meg has been awake much more today during the day so I'm hopeful for tonight

fiona76 · 19/12/2007 18:23

Anabel is also awake much of the day. She sleeps if I go out in car or pram but doesn't sleep at home for me. I can't get anything done. On a brighter note I'm going out for my work christmas do tonight so I have expressed and DH is in charge and i'll probably have 2 drinks and be sozzled. Its first time I'll be away from her so feeling a bit weird but looking forward to it.

DanJARMouse · 19/12/2007 19:14

Well he is in his cot.... and he is ASLEEP!

Put a pillow under one end of the matress, gave him a bath, fed him in his room all dark, laid him down and YAHOOOOOOO he went to sleep!

Have had to go up once since 6.30pm to settle him, but its all good so far!

Just gonna see how he goes, will prob end up in bed with me at silly o clock in the morning, but for now im happy!

RGPargy · 19/12/2007 19:34

DJarm - great that you seem to have sorted Daniel's possible reflux problem. It's frustrating when they wont settle in the right place isn't it. Fingers crossed he stays asleep for you.

Fiona - have a fab time tonight and try not to worry too much about Anabel!

Ellie has been a little fussy this afternoon so i decided to give her a bath in a bit to get her to sleep. She's now settled in her basket - dont know for how long tho.

DanJARMouse · 19/12/2007 20:22

bollox!

didnt last! Ah well, never mind, will try again tomorrow!

RGPargy · 19/12/2007 20:42

Gutted!! Keep trying Jarm. It might be he's just not used to sleeping in that environment.

choudru · 20/12/2007 00:46

RG - great news about Ellie's weight gain - your norks are obviously doing their job. Got Sara weighed today and she put on 6oz. Am happy because last week she only put on 2oz and I was worried it was because she has started spacing out her feeds more.

But obviously she's just doing what most babies do and putting on loads one week and nothing the next.

It's Eid tomorrow so we're off to visit mine and DH's families tomorrow. Staying at in-laws for 2 nights so have been packing. It took me ages.

Also decided to bake a fecking french apple flan to take to in-laws. It took me all fecking evening

I can't be bothered worrying if it tastes right (so not true but I'm trying to kid myself I'm not stressed about it coming out right!)

Loopy - let us know how life is once you get some time and energy!

Can't remember who mentioned milkspots, but thought I would let you know Sara's were very similar to what you describe. They've completely gone now - she's 6 weeks tomorrow. They disappeared around a week and a half ago.

AchristmasRGPARGYcarol · 20/12/2007 06:44

Morning

Been up since 3am and have had a grand total of 2 hours sleep all bloody night. I'm exhausted. Ellie spent the whole of the time fretting, feeding, feeding, fretting and whenever i put her back in her basket, her eyes would ping open and we'd be back to square one.

I think it might be something to do with the onions and curry i had for dinner last night.....

DanJARMouse · 20/12/2007 08:37

RGP - I feel your pain, we had that the other night, and I had Fajitas for tea! Something tells me babies dont like spicy foods!

An ok night in the end, settled the boy in the car seat, waited 20 mins, lifted him into carrycot, and he slept there from 10-11pm, had 3oz of EBM and slept again til 2.30am, quick feed and asleep til 4am and then another quick feed til 7am

Hoping the growth spurt stops soon!

AchristmasRGPARGYcarol · 20/12/2007 08:59

Looks like i'll have to avoid anything like that Jarm. She's been asleep for ages now tho and looks like butter wouldn't melt.........

I was going to have a doze on the sofa but fell asleep before i could get into a good position and woke up with a dead wrist and a criminal in my neck! Typical!!
