Damn I pressed the wrong button!

I meant to say too...

Capecodder - yes BF makes one really thirsty, I normally also have to down pints of water - funny isn't it? I find it a lot more noticeable now with this LO one than with the others too.

Sparkly - good news re Callum's weight - well done you!

Fiona and Silk - glad someone else said it first! Goodness me, I have spent the weekend watching kids Xmas movies (with the kids!!!) blubbing my heart out! I forgot about the really quick change of emotions - I hate it! Makes it even worse that DH is away until just before Xmas. I hope that it doesn't evolve into something bigger....

Fiona - happy belated birthday

I've just realised that I'm going to be 35 next Sunday - how depressing. I will be spending it with the Nanny and 4 kids - I'm taking 3 of them to a birthday party in the afternoon - but it won't be mine!!!! Do you think they'd mind if I took some champagne along with me and my own cake??????

Hope you all sleep well x

choudru · 04/12/2007 00:12

LOM - milk spots are harmless spots that babies get on their face soon after birth. Caused by bacteria landing on fresh baby skin or something. Apparently they disappear spontaneously after a few weeks. According to t'internet, it affects about 40% of babies - I can't remember DS having them so maybe he got away with it.

Choc - I see what you are saying about Rebecca. Swings and roundabouts eh?

I haven't got an eternity ring and there seems to be no prospect of one! Maybe I'll not-so-subtly hint that I want one for our 5th wedding anniversary next year. 2 kids and 5 years of marriage ought to be enough to deserve one, don't you think?

Jetgirl - oh my gosh, I so relate to what you're saying regarding DH's peaceful snoring irritating you! I feel the same quite often. Funny because I don't really want DH to lose sleep as well - he's doing a grand job of working and looking after DS and housework when he's at home. But in the middle of the night when he's snoozing away, it's rather annoying.

Sara seems to be having a good old sleep this evening - usually she is on a feeding/fussing marathon at this time. Now I'm worried that she'll be feeding more tonight.

iris66 · 04/12/2007 05:51

Hi all - nothing to report here apart from a touch of mind numbing tiredness courtesy of my darling boy. At least we're all in it together eh typing 1 handed as we're on a morning feedfest for a change

Choc - at the comments over your CS! I'd have had a fit!! - the ignorance and arrogance of some people! grrrrrrr

Sparkly - fab news about Callum All your hard work has really paid off [much respect emoticon] you really deserve that eternity ring!

RGPargy - I got my eternity ring before an engagement ring because I wouldn't marry DH. He wanted something to say we'd be together forever(bless)

Fiona - happy birthday for the other day - glad you had a lovely time

mrsjetson - '35 next Sunday - how depressing' I'll swap if you like I feel every one of my 41 years at the mo

jetgirl - with you one the annoying DH sleeping - especially when he gets up oblivious that I've been up 3/4 times and then complains that he's tired

iris66 · 04/12/2007 05:53

choudru - Elliot's milk spots are going now by the way so I suppose they only last about 2/3 weeks

DanJARMouse · 04/12/2007 08:02

Morning all

I think I may be a lucky one, Daniel appears to have read the baby manual!

He fed on and off all evening and then settled himself to sleep at 11.30pm, woke at 4.15am when DH picked him up so I could go for a wee, and he fell back to sleep until 5am for a feed. Back asleep by 6am and is only just starting to stir now!

Feeding is a lot more comfortable, helped by the fact I actually have milk i think! He is also so much happier - the first few days were hell, he just would not settle at all!

Sounds like the rest of you are doing well too, and come on RGP - we need NEWS!!!

RGPargy · 04/12/2007 09:03

Jet - You sound very lucky re William's latch and the support you've had too. Brilliant!

MrsJetson - happy birthday for next Sunday! Have to agree that i'd much rather be 35 than 39 (soon be 40 - eek!!)

Choudru - How did it go with Sara last night?

Jarm - so glad Daniel had a good night last night. Brilliant!

iris66 · 04/12/2007 13:06

JARM - I'm hoping that Elliot will get back to sleeping better like Daniel soon (or at least more regular feed times so I can start some serious expressing for Christmas )
You sound on top of the world at the moment - lovely

DanJARMouse · 04/12/2007 13:48

Thanks Iris - i think im very lucky so far!

Daniel was weighed today and has lost a little bit of weight, but will get weighed again next week. He was 8lbs 4oz at birth and 7lbs 14oz today. MW doesnt seem concerned though so that must be a good thing!

This thread has made me feel so much better about loads of things, mainly sleeping and feeding and not really knowing what my baby wants...

Had horrible 3 days in hospital post section hand expressing bits of breast milk as Luke wouldn't feed or latch properly. Came home last night and had big cry and 10pm as he was so upset, but I couldn't get him on to feed properly. I feel like I was given lots of differing sets of info about feeding at hospital and hadn't assimilated them properly or something.

Had a decent night last night feeding wise, but not sleeping wise. DH is being a star, did all nappies and changes in the night after he was sick.

Have taken to writing down all the sleep/feed times just so I don't lose track of what I am doing and to see if I an pick up his cues any better.

Hope everyone else is OK today.

iris66 · 04/12/2007 17:40

Strangetown - it's so easy to get caught up with thinking you should know what your LO wants (and when). He probably doesn't know himself yet. Easier said than done I know, but try to be kind to yourself . FWIW I did the whole writing everything down thing with DS1. It was much easier (and I was much calmer) after a friend told me to ditch the list, don't look at the clock, & just go with the flow at night for the first 3 months at least. HTH

can I just sneak a proud mummy moment in?.... Elliot smiles now !! and it is the most beautiful, crinkly eyed, big, gummy, lumpinthethroat inducing smile ever

fiona76 · 04/12/2007 17:51

I drink loads of water when I feed as well. You do get really thirsty and hungry although that has settled down a bit now my body seems to have adjusted. I guess its the change between not being abe to eat much in last few weeks of pregnancy and now being hungry and having more room in tummy again.

Anabel was really grizzly for about 6 hours last night and fed constantly I was by myself for the first time. but luckily she settled by 11pm and then slept well last night waking at 3am and 6.30 am for feeds.

Had first lot of photos printed off today she is so cute!!! My mum goes back to NZ tomorrow so I'm a bit scared but hopefully will cope.

silkcushion · 04/12/2007 20:44

Can't remember who asked about spots but Megan has had terrible skin on her face for a couple of weeks but it is greatly improved over the last few days.

Strange - I intially kept a log of feeding etc (hospital made me do it cos she had jaundice) but tbh it is pointless. Megan lets me know if she is hungry and then I feed her. There isn't a set pattern yet. Some days she eats loads and others (like today) she eats less. Had her weighed today and she was 8lbs 4 last Tuesday 9lb 2 today - so I'm not going to worry about it.

Jetgirl - you say you are trying to reset bodyclock. How? and is it working? I've tried getting her out in the fresh air daily - but being in her pram makes her instantly fall asleep.

Feeling knackered now - might go to bed and little Meggie is asleep and DH is out at badminton.

StrangeTown · 05/12/2007 13:28

I hope I will be able to relax and ditch the list soon Silk and Iris - good to hear that it does get better and I can't wait for that first smile like Elliot!

Afternoon ladies!!! I finally made it here!!

Wow, what an amazing experience!!

I'm still reeling from it all so dont have much to say at the moment (that's a first!), but will post up my birth story a little later.

Ellie is beautiful and we are so very proud of her! Her pic is on my profile.

She's not feeding very well at the moment tho. She latches on fine, has 2 or 3 sucks and then comes off and that's that. Is this normal? The MW told me to "cap feed" her, i.e. put some dreaded formula in the cap of a bottle and tip a little into her mouth just so that she gets something inside her. Has anyone else had to do this?

silkcushion · 05/12/2007 16:10

omg Rg - congratulations. I knew she'd be waiting in the moses basket for you. I can't believe you've posted so soon. I guess you got yr hwb then and little Ellie look scrumptious.

I had to cap feed Megan in hospital cos she wouldn't feed and had jaundice. It is amzing - they lap at it like little kittens. Good luck and welcome to our thread

Look away now if you've had no sleep.....

... Megan went from 11.30 to 7.15am (with a 10 min grizzle at 3am). Am delighted but it'll probably never happen again

fiona76 · 05/12/2007 17:13

I wasn't going to say anything but Anabel slept from 11pm until 5.30. I still woke at 3am ready to feed her but she slept on blissfully unaware. What a treasure!!

Well done on Ellie RG she is lovely and a great weight. Anabel didn't feed until about 15 hours after birth and she was fine.

littleoldme · 05/12/2007 17:55

Choudru - I've e-mailed you.

iris66 · 05/12/2007 18:00

RGPargy - Ellie's beautiful - congratulations

Clearly there was something in the air last night as Elliot slept from 10.15 to 5.30 too I'm very grateful for the extra sleep as we did a trip into town to do some shopping. Both children took it in turns to grizzle and Elliot screamed all the way home because he was hungry (and there was nowhere to stop), DS1 grizzled in sympathy (also getting hungry)and I dissolved into tears as there was nothing I could do It was decidedly stressful and I won't be doing it again for a long time!!

Hope everyone else had a good day x

sparklygothkat · 05/12/2007 18:11

all these babies sleeping through Callum doesn't settle till midnight and then wakes at 2am, and 6am...

OP posts:
silkcushion · 05/12/2007 21:11

Iris - sorry to hear of you 3 crying all the way home. I went shopping with Megan today too and got it timings wrong re feeding. I took a bottle of ebm which she guzzled down. 1/2 hr later she was screaming for more. Cried for 20 mins on the way home in the car, I felt like a rubbish mummy

Never mind - we can't get it right all of the time can we?

mrsjetson · 05/12/2007 22:19

RG - Many congrats to you!! Just to add to teh list of other comments Little Jemima slept for hours after she was born, and didn't really have a 'proper feed' until day 2!! She'll feed when she's hungry - in the meantime sleep as much as poss before she realises that your boobs will be rather yummy for her!!!!!!!

I'm now at the stage of lots of vomit after feeds - I'd forgotten about that - adn also the amount of times I need to change her clothes! Oh well a chance to show off her wardrobe....

Unlike many of you, I have not had a solid sleep through the night, but Jemima only seems to wake up at 1am and 4am (ish) both times for about 30 minutes max. I guess that's good....also a chance for me to have another cheeky squidge with her!!

Silk - Jemima also has spots all over her face, neck and shoulder area - I know it's nothing to worry about, but my Goodness it looks so soar, poor babies they do go through a lot don't they?

Take care

RGPargy · 06/12/2007 08:42

Morning everyone!! (cut and paste jobbie i'm afraid!)

Well i'm back and my daughter is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! We are so proud of her, she's a little angel! She doesn't cry for very long but when she does, she gets really stroppy (like her mum)

Anyway, here's my birth story:

As you'll know from the labour thread, i'd had a show Tuesday morning which basically didn't let up at all. DP got me to phone the hospital at around 9pm just to let them know what was going on (i'm far too laid back for my own good). The contractions at this point were coming about every 10-15 minutes and lasting for about 30 seconds. I was told to ring back when they were about 5-7 minutes apart and so an hour later i was on the phone to them again. A midwife eventually turned up at 11.30pm to assess me and told me i was 3-4cm dilated. By this time my hind waters had started to leak a bit so i knew it was deffo going to be soon.

It got to about 12.30am and the contractions started to become alot more painful (hence the lack of posting lol). Then at about 1.45am the mw suggested i get on my knees and lean over the sofa to try and ease some pain. So i got down on my knees, leant over and then POP GUSH !!!!! My waters well and truly broke (thank goodness for the plastic sheeting from the pool!) and i felt really helpless being on all fours with all this stuff gushing out of me! The mw noticed that there was meconium (sp?) in my waters and then told me i couldn't go in the pool. GUTTED!! By this point however, i was in far too much pain to really care and couldn't move much anyway!

She called for a second mw at this point (!!!) and then told me to resist any urges to push for as long as possible. I held off for as long as possible and could feel the baby slowly moving down my birth canal. It was the weirdest, most amazing feeling!! It got to the point when i could feel the baby's head getting extremely close to coming out so i told the mw that i didn't think i could hold on for any longer. She told me go ahead and push and I felt the head easing it's way out. Apparently DP said it was so surreal when he saw this little face looking up at him from me! So then i pushed her shoulders out and she shot out!

And what was the first thing i said?!! "OH MY GOD!! IT'S A BABY!!" I think that despite all the scans, the kicks etc i still didn't quite believe that this little person was going to come out of me!

Oh I should mention that i did it all WITHOUT ANY PAIN RELIEF WHATSOEVER

I had to have stitches because of second degree tearing, but to be honest, it wasn't that bad and i finally managed to have some G&A for that!!

All in all it was a wonderful experience which DP and I will obviously remember for the rest of our lives. We've both been like blubbering grinning mad people since she's been born. It's wonderful!!!

I will try and catch up with all your news soon.
