Oh thanks - have had a look and found a couple of possibilities but can't get the idea of a pink one out of my head - do you think blue and pink is ok? Am torn. Thanks anyway- cheered me up a bit now

Pinions · 10/10/2007 14:34

Off to collect ratbag lovely DS1 from nursery, but in case I forget, 2nd time around mums, PLEASE post your attitude and opinions re returning to work, those who haven't already (Ellie, Dippy, SOL, Pesha), cos this is a topic which both fascinates and baffles me at the same time.

TIA. Bye for now x

PillockInThePumpkin · 10/10/2007 14:36

meant to ask, SMB, is there any pattern to T's vomiting? Joe is showing signs of the dairy intolerance that Matthew had (still does but less severe) and is very sicky after some dairy foods, particularly anything with cheese in.

Thanks for parsnip advice, will steam with rest of vegetables, bin did look very appealing GMM! Is it just me who thinks they look like carrots that are about 3 years out of date [bleurgh]
Pillock, it's always after first feed of the day (although not usually straight after, can be up to an hour later), which makes me think he's just guzzling his milk after a long night of not eating. If he's sick at other times, it's the normal sick, not the gushing fountain effect - nice!
that Joe seems to have a dairy intolerance as well, at least he will probably grow out of it if M did?

SharpMolarBear · 10/10/2007 14:46

ooh had him weighed today, after not putting on weight last time he has put on a few oz this time

geordiemacmummy · 10/10/2007 14:55

Nothing worse than biting into what you think is a roast potato and finding its a parsnip,..... bleurgh

nappynuttynormabutty · 10/10/2007 15:07

Another parsnip hater here - eugh can't stand them. Another reason to be glad we're not at MILs for xmas this year .

Well I went out...didn't manage to get a card, shop also didn't have the pic frame I wanted but have taken my number to call when it comes in stock and when I got home I realised I'd forgotten my parcel, so will have to pop to PO across road (will leave it til I've had my cup of tea tho!)

SharpMolarBear · 10/10/2007 15:09

Well I agree, although IMO biting into a great big chunk of mushroom and discovering it is aubergine just ranks slightly worse on the bleurgh-o-meter. Only slightly mind you.

SharpMolarBear · 10/10/2007 15:09

card...knew there was something else I wanted to get from the shop Thanks nutty!
My cousin has just had a baby girl!

CaptainDippy · 10/10/2007 15:24

Hello!

maveta that highchair looks well funky

leaky glad things are looking up for Eva

I love parsnips...and the extra suprise when eating christmas dinner - is it a roast potato or a roast parnsip

As for going back to work....mmm....I think it is a tough one. Working does help to preserve my sanity lol. After J was born I knew that I didn't want to work ft. Was lucky and found a pt job I really enjoyed. Think I've got the childcare balance right as well - 2 mornings with my mum, 2 mornings in nursery and 1 morning with mil (which means I don't feel guilty if we don't visit on weekends, lol)
Have been kind of looking forward to returning to work, until my boss started acting like an arse I've told him when I'm going back (3rd Dec) and asked if I can use my remaining hols to break the week up (ease me back into things slowly) all done properly in a letter (that was SOL approved ) He still hasn't confirmed the hols, grrr. And in his last email, which was sent on the 1st Oct, he told me that "things have not been good for the last month or so" and "will go through it in detail this week and reply accordingly" Well a week has been and passed. I'm convinced that he's hoping that I change my mind and decide not to return to work. Which would make life easier for him. Tough.

leakyR · 10/10/2007 15:47

Hi
This pic made me blub. Another steady day, long may it continue.

Knackered today only had about 4 hrs sleep. Partly my own fault stayed up until midnight looking at houses for sale online. We've decided to move soon (by next summer hopefully). When we've got a house going to TTC baby #2

LOL at parsnip chat. I really like them, but when I lived in France I was reliably informed that they are not fo humans. The French use them for pig feed! I was amazed, they'll anything else! MIL had a jar of Sansonnet (starling) pate that a friend had given her last time i was there.

Welcome back Elkie, been impressed with your transatlantic scrabble

oooggs · 10/10/2007 15:52

hello all - I am not ready to go back to work yet but when they are 12 mths I will be there smiling I do 16 hours over 3 days and I admit I enjoy the break. Not sure how it is going to work with 3 and a house to look after but well.....

but on the other hand.......... (this is for you Eddas!!!!!)

I said to dh last night, 'I would like your job, you leave and go to work full time albeit shifts, but in the meantime someone washes your clothes, keeps your house clean, makes your meals and looks after your children' yes I know it is all our but sometimes I do feel like the hired help on crap pay.

rant over

runnyhabbit · 10/10/2007 15:54

oooggs - totally agree with feeling like the hired help. Dh might work extermely long hours (this week has been an average of 4am til 8pm) but he doesn't have to think about anything else, at all.

oooggs · 10/10/2007 15:55

oh and today I have made puree of leek, courgette, cauliflower, brocolli parsnip butternut squash, & carrot and have roast parsnips in the oven for us along with roast pork, roast pots, carrots, brocolli & cauliflower - I have been stuck in all day with the plasterer doing the ceiling of over bedroom - yes we are still in the lounge sleeping!!!!!!!!!! We will be in before Christmas - honest and will post pics when they are finished

oooggs · 10/10/2007 15:56

oh yes runny not that I am at all bitter or anything they they have the check to say all we do is drink tea & watch Trisha

PillockInThePumpkin · 10/10/2007 16:16

RIGHT
I need HELP
I have bought
Avocado
Asparagus
Courgette
Baby Corn
Pumpkin
Beetroot
But what do I do with them?

I am really not an instictive cook, never learnt, never had anyone to copy.
Joe is currently tucking into Figs, which he is loving, and I just need to know what to do with the rest, as Matthew was weaned on Jars

OP posts:
SharpMolarBear · 10/10/2007 16:21

Well I'm steaming everything apart from fruit until I feel T can gum it into submission!
Have bought a banana today, very excited to see how that will go down!

VamPesha · 10/10/2007 16:22

Yes I think its doing dp alot of good being off work at the moment as he is actually seeing me on the go all day, the only time I sit down is to feed or entertain a bored D. I'm sure he thought before all I did was sit around all day as there never seems to be much to show for my busyness and the house is most befinitely not spotless but just keeping it ticking over at this level at the same time as looking after dc takes all my time. And I refuse to be rushing around doing house work once M and N are in bed, thats when I clock off!! Well apart from bfing D all evening and finishing off some washing, loading dishwasher, checking on dc etc so not really clocking off but certainly scale it down!

WRT work I think alot depends on the work you're going to, whether its something you enjoy or just something to pay the bills. And also on what your kids are like! I could have happily stayed home with Maia aged 1-3 for ever or several children like she was would have been lovely. But Maia aged 4-now plus Nathan aged birth to now (!) was jsut too much but being a single mum previously I just couldnt find a job that paid enough. when I did return to work briefly I'd only been there a couple of months, dd was ill with sickness bug followed by ds and couldn't go childminder so I had just over a week off work and received my P45 in the post no letter telling me I'd been fired just a P45 Now I actually really dont want to go to work as I'm loving it being just me and D all day and then the big dc are much easier after a day at scool and I know this is my last so really want to make the most of it but unfortunately we need the extra money But when he gets to playschool age I think I'll be glad to have a pt time job. And as a sahm I have missed the social side of work and the independance and self esteem it can give you, the sense of being something other than a mother iyswim. Although i did manage to get the occassional fix of that with a good night out!!

I've waffled on loads again haven't I and now have no time to preview cos I've gotta get dd from environment club. Hope it all makes sense

PillockInThePumpkin · 10/10/2007 16:35

I need minute detail, like, do I peel it? leave skin on? take pips/seeds out?

I really have no idea, I have never cooked any of these vegetables before, or even eaten them come to think of it

OP posts:
geordiemacmummy · 10/10/2007 16:39

Avocado - wait until its rip and give as ff or mash it?
Asparagus - ff or personally, dry fry and then smother in butter and eat yourself..mmm tasty. I normally cut a little off the bottom stick in a bowl with a tsp of water cover with clingfilm and micro for a minute
Courgette - roast? or cut into chunks, boil for a bit and then puree add pumpkin andor potato?
Baby Corn - same as asparagus or roast
Pumpkin - skin it, cut into chunks, boil and puree or roast?
Beetroot - no idea

oh incase you dont know to roast drizzle with a little olive oil, 180 degrees for 45 minutes? Sorry if you know that already.

I got some great containers from instore..used to be poundstretcher, 2 inches high, cube things, 6 for £1, great size for pureed stuff?

geordiemacmummy · 10/10/2007 16:40

peel avacardo

nappynuttynormabutty · 10/10/2007 16:42

Ellie - have msn'd you veg instructions, but dunno about avocado cos I always get it wrong!!!
