My wedding was organised in 5 months. I went into a wedding boutique in at the beginning of Feb and was told there was at least a six month lead in time for dresses....so I bought mine off ebay. Other than that everything was pretty straight forward.

I know, it seems mad planning for 2009. But the hotels get so booked up that they had to book now to get the place they want on the day they want. I hope once that's confirmed it all quietens down for a while (like about15 months). Still it gives me time to get confident in bossing people about to tell them where I want them to stand for the photos

Jamantha · 03/10/2007 19:33

I didn't want to wear white/cream/ivory so I had a bridesmaid's dress in burgandy. It was half the price than if I'd had it in ivory as a bride's dress. Same design, same material, just a different colour and half the price!

daisyandbabybootoo · 03/10/2007 19:34

should have said wedding was in May so only 3.5 months so no time to get a dress ordered and fitted and altered.

bumperlicious · 03/10/2007 19:45

my wedding dress cost £100 from a women on a wedding forum (yes, before mumsnet i had a previous forum addiction)

Jamantha · 03/10/2007 19:47

Am impressed with your speedy brides! But you're all beaten by a woman a nurse friend of mine knew whose wedding was arranged in 10 days so that she could get married before her boyfriend died. They had the wedding and he died a couple of days later. They hadn't even paid for the rings. When she went to pay the invoice the jeweller kindly (and amazingly, he was running a business after all) refused the money.

Dontknowmyarsefrommyelbow · 03/10/2007 19:53

Hey - My wedding was fairly quick to organise too!
We got married in Italy - so just got 'Magic of Italy' to do it all! Was fab!

Can someone please tell me why I am not loosing weight!!!

I am eating healthy low GI stuff and am riding my horse most evenings, and have started to go to 'Baby and Buggy' exercise club!

Am I going to be fat forever????

Dontknowmyarsefrommyelbow · 03/10/2007 19:54

Jamantha - didn't mean to be insensitive! Should have read your post properly 1st!
for your friend!

foxybrown · 03/10/2007 20:05

Thats sad J.

The idea to put it in a guide is brilliant! Thank you - am really chuffed!

Bumper, I think that's a great idea of Daisy's - to write it down. Might be down to something simple, like the body wash or deoderent you use! my lo does not like Body Shops Bergamont wash. Which I bought as a pep-me-up and so is useless!

riabutterflew · 03/10/2007 20:16

i got married in a 1930's style dress from DP. I think it was 40. our wedding was organised within about a month i think, we met in February and got married in June.

very sad story J.

riabutterflew · 03/10/2007 20:17

DH organised it all too

foxybrown · 03/10/2007 20:19

I wonder what I would wear ...

daisyandbabybootoo · 03/10/2007 20:23

are you being coy with us foxy?

daisyandbabybootoo · 03/10/2007 20:24

????

Jamantha · 03/10/2007 20:24

ooh, we went to a wedding in Italy a couple of years ago. It was fab, in a church in Rome (which meant there were a few tourists at the back, slightly odd but hey). It was half in English, half in Italian, so we didn't understand half (or more) of what was going on and didn't actually know at which point they were married. And then a 9 course dinner which went on for hours and hours. A really great night.

foxybrown · 03/10/2007 20:25

am waiting for that question to be popped.

perhaps DP has a commitmrnt phobia

foxybrown · 03/10/2007 20:25

Ha ha - and I can't even spell it! LOL

Jamantha · 03/10/2007 20:28

I had to ask DH (before he was DH obviously)

faylisa · 03/10/2007 20:29

Hi everyone

Daisy - r u scrabbling? (would love to finish the game but in desperate need of an early night so only have 1/2 hr or so)

foxybrown · 03/10/2007 20:30

Was it a romantic proposal, J?

Jamantha · 03/10/2007 20:33

nah, we were sat on the sofa watching tv!

daisyandbabybootoo · 03/10/2007 20:36

LOL at your DP being afraid of commitment foxy...isn't he the one hankering after more babies??

I gave DH an ultimatum . After we got back together it made sense for me to move to Leeds as there are oodles of jobs in engineering but very few in his line. I told hime that I wasn't prepared to move here only for him to change his mind after a few months and send me and DS packing and I would only do it with a ring on my finger.

So, we recycled my ring from when we were sort of engaged before and got married five months later on the Friday, had a few days on Skye for our honeymoon, spent three days packing and we moved to Leeds the following Saturday.

I'm now hankering after a "proper" diamond ring.....He said I can either have the living room re-decorated and a wood burning stove or a diamond ring. It's a really tough call.

Jamantha · 03/10/2007 20:36

who had the lavender drink last night? I just went to get a drink and found a small unopened bottle of liquer called parfait amour, which I think is violet flavoured. Don't fancy it tonight, but should try it soon - it's been sitting there since we bought it about 10 years ago

daisyandbabybootoo · 03/10/2007 20:36

i will faylisa, but my brain is mush....

Jamantha · 03/10/2007 20:38

LOL Daisy, sounds similar to DH's offer of an eternity ring turning hastily into a new radiator for the car when it got cracked the next day.
