Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi MrsJoJo - I had an emergency section too, 5 weeks ago yesterday. I started to feel normal after two weeks, was driving at 3 weeks and have been carrying the car seat around for a week now, so you don't necessarily have to wait the full 6 weeks, just see how you get on

Unicorn - I started on Infacol, then tried the colief drops for a week which seemed to work well, but a pita to use, if FF need to put in the milk half an hour before the feed, which is not good in the middle of the night, have now gone back to the Infacol, which seems to be doing the job along with the dr browns bottles I am using. Also I think his stomach is maturing now at 5 weeks as he is settling much quicker after a feed now, which is fantastic especially in the night

Dalrymps · 10/11/2007 21:02

Hey everyone, hope you're all doing ok. Dylan doing fine, sseems to be feeding well and usually every 3 -4 hours, he poo's loads, don't know if anyone else's lo poos a lot but he's going through about 10 nappies a day, i heard a rumour that bf babies poo less...guess it's not true. Dylan had us worried last night, we used a little sucker thing we've got to clear some snot from his nose, even though we were gentle it tickled his throat and he vomited and it cam out of his nose and mouth, it shocked us cause he's hardly ever sick, anyway, then he started doing a horrible chokey/retchy cough and we kept thinking he was gonna choke but after he'd done it about 5 times he stopped, by this point we'd called nhs direct and the maternity unit panicking but they reassured us it seemed like he eas ok if his colour/temp was ok and once i'd given him a feed he calmed down and stopped coughing, we just were so worried and couldn't understand what was wrong with him but once we calmed down and thought about it we realised it made sense, when we'd cleared his nose it obviously tickled his throat and then when he was sick he was lying down being changed so it had obvoisly got a bit stuck in his throat and the he'd spent the next hour or so having a tickly throat and trying to clear the sick, he coughed up quite a lumpy bit of sick at pnce point just before he fed again so it must have been that that was stuck. Anyway he scared us to death and it took us ages tp get to sleep cause we were paranoid and listening to his breathing for signs of abnormality... Anyway he's totally fine and feeding/breathing well today, just makes you realise how much of a worry lo's can be! I'm certainly not ever using that thing to clear his nose again anyway, anyone else had any scarey moments?
By the way congratulations MrsJoJo and welcome!

ejt1764 · 10/11/2007 21:07

hi all ... welcome to the thread mrsjojo - I had a emergency c section with my first, and found that although the initial recovery was very slow, I was able to get about a lot easier by about 4 weeks.

inzi - am a little of your lo sleeping so well - I hate to rain on your parade, but Mairwen did nothing but sleep for the first fortnight, then it was as though somebody switched the lights on ... hopefully that will be a painless transition for you!

Alice - glad to hear that Adam has settled well on the ff ... you have to do what works for you! I'm sorely tempted to introduce 1 ff a day soon, but as I'm severely asthmatic and suffer from horrendous allerigies, my rationale behind bf is to try to stave those off ... hence my stubborness!

Mairwen has started becoming very unsettled in the early morning ... she sleeps beautifully until about 4am (is woken for a feed at about 1030 by dh, then awakes for feed at 2-3am ish), then becomes a windy, screamy, unsettled monster until about 7am, when we get up - she then sleeps most of the morning, snacking occasionally, then is very unsettled all afternoon. I've taken my own advice, and have booked her in for cranial osteopathy on Monday - hopefully that will help - although her birth was fabulous for me (in a head-state sense!), she was back-to-back until very late on, and I've been told that the horrible period pains and squits I had all day on the Saturday was an early back-to-back labour.

As for the Colief drops, I did use it, but as I had to express and put it on a teaspoon of milk, I have to admit to not using it regularly - it's too much faff! I've gone back to the Infacol- and that seems to be ok, as long as I use it for every feed.

Today hasn't been a great day: Mairwen was very unsettled all afternoon - dh took her off me to try and settle her, as she got very screamy - but completely mis-read her cues - he thought she was hungry, when in fact, she was exhausted, so we had 2 1/2 hours of screaming baby leading up to 7pm!

DS is having his birthday party tomorrow - his birthday was 4th October, but we delayed his party to make sure that we were able to give it our full attention ... he's having a go-kart party - should be fun - it'll be easy - all we have to do is turn up!

Sleep well all ... love to everybody I haven't mentioned!

ejt1764 · 10/11/2007 21:10

Dal - Mairwen seems to have choking moments like that most days ... my let-down reflex is very fast on the one side, and she chokes on the milk - I just sit her up or turn her over, and pat her back - it is scary though, isn't it!

Just the first of many aaaagggghhhh scary moments though ...

Dalrymps · 10/11/2007 21:19

Yeah sure is really scary, i was so worried i burst in to tears, might be the hormones too though

ejt1764 · 10/11/2007 21:30

bursting into tears is par for the course too

I have turned instant sleeping into an art form btw - dh did a nappy change last night - he asked me a question, which I answered, he then turned around to give Mairwen back to me, and I'd already fallen asleep in the chair ... deeply asleep!

ejt1764 · 10/11/2007 21:31

right, off to do late expressing, then bed ... only really came on here to find a next order code!

Dalrymps · 10/11/2007 21:32

Glad it's not just me then, have fun x

TheLadyEvenstar · 10/11/2007 21:55

Aw inzi, your poor boobs, hope the feding frenzy stops soon... My lo's been really well behaved so far, keep worrying that it's suddenly going to change, keep reading on here about perfect babies that turn in to screaming machines over night . There was one occasion the other day when lo suddenly kept feeding little and often, i noticed i was a bit warm and opened the door to cool the house a bit then lo stopped feeding and fell asleep for hours, mentioned it to the midwife and she said it could have been that he was a bit hot and wanting a thirst quenching drink or it could have just been him instictively trying to stimulate me to produce more milk, or could just be a growth spurt? Just a thought, you've probably considered all these posibilities already anyway, either way it doesn't help your nips much, you got some good nipple cream? i've been using lansinoh which is really good . Hope everyone else is doing ok

MrsJoJo · 11/11/2007 06:22

Hi there

Thanks for the congrats - I know I'll be able to do more quite quickly after my c-section but as we have a flight booked to return to the UK from Thailand for Christmas I need to make sure I'm back to full strength for that. To be honest I'm happy to play invalid for now and make DH run round for a change (but with the nanny he is getting away with more than if it was just the two of us!)

Izaak is feeding well and generally a happy chappy. He is alert after his first feed & the lunchtime feed. If he's going to be irritable its after what should be his final feed of the day which doesn't bother me too much as I know he'll sleep a stretch when we eventually get him down but I can see this will drive hubby mad.

Apart from getting Izaak to latch on sometimes I don't seem to have too many probs BF. One problem I think I may have though is a blocked milk duct - going to call my doctor about it tomorrow as its not responding to massage and hot cloths.

Better go

Jo

greedygreedyguzzler · 11/11/2007 08:34

inzi - i dont want to burst your bubble, and i REALLY hope it lasts for you..............but all three of mine have seemed like the easiest babies in the world for the first couple of weeks ...................and THEN they wake up and realise they are out in the real world!!!! i hope it lasts for you, but if not make the most of it while you can!!! lots of pub lunches for you i think while she is still an angel!!! OOOoooppps! just read on further, sorry you had a bad day yesterday

alicet - formula is so much easier isn't it?!!! ( i KNOW i shouldn't say that.....but it's true!!!)

dalrymps - my first 2 babies pooed for england too!!! this time my little marcy is a bit more restrained!!! but we could easily get 7 or 8 poos a day!!! i think they are just all different!! its a pain though isnt it?!!

J20DemondaughterandDevilbaby · 11/11/2007 08:55

hi all

welcome back inzi, sorry you had a bad day, it does get easier as time goes by, its just the waiting that seems forever.

les-it took me hours to work out how to use mine! good luck.

sorry i've not been around much, i hardly get time to log in nowadays before she screams again, i've been giving her colief drops, which seem to be doing a bit of good, i'd kind of going into a 3 hourly feeding rountine, until i run out of drops last night, so she's been unsettled all night. i did give her a ff bottle a couple of nights and she slept for 4.5 hours, bliss! but then i got a box of hipp organic and it doesn'r seem to agree with her, after 5 wks of pooing every nappy feed, she's been 2 days without pooing and seems to be constantly straining, anyone know if this make isn't very good?

on the good side, Shannon has sarted smiling, it really melts my heart, bless her

i've scanned the posts but can't remember what everyone said, anyone heard from mump? or did i miss her posts?

right need to go wash the baby sick out of my hair! hope you're all well

Stefka · 11/11/2007 10:47

How's everyone?

I am expressing from my really sore side at the moment so that I can rest it and see if I can get it to heal. I think it will take ages though and in the mean time my other side isn't getting better but worse!

I had to give DS a dummy - something I swore I would never do. I seem to have broken every parenting rule I had for myself so far.

lisad123 · 11/11/2007 11:07

morning all.
Hoping to rejoin the normal life now and that includes posting with you lovely ladies

Jasmine now weighs 9lb 6oz, whihc sounds odd as she is 7 weeks and people have babies that big at birth god that must hurt.
In general she is pretty good, a blessing compared to Tanisha who screamed for hours. The only real issue is when she wakes for her last night feed 5-6am, she then thinks its time to get up and play and will not settle for love nor money Oh well guessing it will be good for when i start taking dd1 to school in mornings (dh is doing this till im over my operation)

Bit of advice for LES, put nappy into bag part, push down slight, then turn ring on side, and shut lid Dont turn knob on top till it needs emptying, this cuts the bags

Drlyn, my Jasmine kept choking on the back of her tongue for first few weeks, till she had her tongue tie cut, that was very worrying. she also used to sick up whole feeds without a sound, so you would go to her bed and find her and bed covered in sick yuck. My dd1 turned blue twice when first born, very very scarcy. Shes 4 now

Mrsjojo, I had a section with my first and felt so rough for first week. My only advice would be do a little more each day and keep mobile. I used to just go for a walk with dd, one to save my mind, the other to put my body going. Hope it helps

Inzi sorry you had a bad day/night. Hope today is better.

J20, Jasmine would poo everyday (not just once either lol) when she was breast feed. However once she had to go onto FF when i was in hospital she didnt go for a week, my understanding is its normal, as ff is harder on their little tums. I found massage really helped (well my sister did it for me), and she exploded within 2 hours

I will defo join the sore nipples group, but not as bad as they were when i was expressing.

Lisa

ejt - sorry mairwen is so unsettled at the mo. Really hope the cranial osteopathy helps her. I know from when Adam was like that that its really emotionally draining especially when you're tired. Hope you get a better day today and that Rhydian has fun at his party!

Greedy - yes ff is much easier! I was very happy with Sam to bf all day - I would set myself up on the sofa with remote control, laptop and some books and chill knowing he would sleep or feed on the boob and whatever he would be happy! Can't do that with a 21 month old running around! SO its working much better for us and Adam is a lot more contented as a result.

Stefka know what you mean about breaking pre-baby parenting 'rules'. Best not to have too many preconceptions as you realise when they are being tricky you will do whatever it takes!!! Sam didn't have a dummy - he couldn't keep it in his mouth and it drove him mad. Adam does though and its made him so much calmer its like magic! We still have a couple of hours of him being unsettled most days but compared to all day its a right result!

Inzi - I'm afraid too I ahd to add that both my boys were settled for a couple of weeks. I remember my hv telling me with Sam that once they start to wake more in the day they often do the same at night. The next day bingo! At least you are forwarned though so you won't worry about it if it happens. Hope she is more settled today. The feeding frenzy is pretty hard isn't it?

J20 - glad to hear Shannon was more settled on the colief drops - hope you manage to get some more soon.

Well I better go as Adam has just woken after a lovely morning out with dh and the boys. Will hopefully be back on later to chat more but my parents and sister arrive this pm so might be a little busy. Hello to anyone I've forgotten....

TheLadyEvenstar · 11/11/2007 13:15

Lisa, thanks for that will have to try again as I have just about given up lol....can figure out whats wrong with a car but can't work a nappy wrapper lmao BLONDE!!!!!

Have had a mare with Zach last few nights, normally he goes down between 10.30 and 11.30pm until 7am. But the last few nights daddy has been home so Zachary has had to sleep in his own bed, he has not settled until 1.am and then been awake again by 3 not for a feed but for cuddles from mummy.....why did i put him in my bed????? once i put him in my bed he nods back off until 7-8am and wakes up all smiles. DP beginning to feel unwanted lol (joking) by zach as he keeps giving him dirty looks as if to say get out of my bed daddy.

I got given some reusable nappies which i really want to try but have no idea what i need to buy to do so, they has the wrap and the booster??? but was told to get some liners for the mother ease nappies, no idea where or what i am looking for!!!!

Ordered a breast pump off of ebay 4 weeks ago as Zach wouldn't drink formula, now he is opposite and the damned thing turned up on friday so am now going to sell it.

Also am getting rid of his crib as he doesn't like it but loves his moses basket (freecycle) and am getting rid of his cot/bed for a smaller one.

Have also got to sort out all of his clothes as he has had a growth spurt and is now in 3-6 month clothes and weighs over 12lb....fat boy slim alert!!!!

Also if anyone interested I have a fisher price aquarium bouncer seat for sale. Zach hates it as he doesn't like the vibrating but prefers his mamas and papas one which we rock.

anyways hope you are all ok

alicet · 11/11/2007 13:42

Hi LES and Lisa! Hope you're both well!

Stefka - about the dummy - I have also found it great for stretching out the time between feeds. Since changing to formula Adam has still been a bit of a snacker as this was obviously what he was doing on the breast. So the dummy helps him to go longer and hopefuylly we will get to the point where he takes fewer big feeds...

unicorn · 11/11/2007 13:54

anyone suffering with er....
piles?
top tips recommended please!

Another grizzly/colicky night..something is really bugging Ronan.. he is quite windy and lots of poos but just wondering what are the signs of lactose intolerance?

Shall start expressing in the morning and giving a bottle at night I think - and see if getting the mlk quicker makes him happier.

Must get him weighed he seems to be putting on weight, but he never seems very content.. not seen HV yet, not sure when they are supposed to get in touch - maybe I will just head up to clinic.

Sorry don't have a lot of time to chat.. he won't be left alone for very long...
ho hum
(mantra.. this will pass!!!!!!)

J20DemondaughterandDevilbaby · 11/11/2007 15:46

just a quickie for unicorn, lactose intolerance is quite rare apparantly, google lactose overload, sounds like it could be that. re piles, i try to ignore mine!

ejt1764 · 11/11/2007 20:14

Hi all .. Rhydian had a wonderful time at his party: Mairwen slept for the first 30 minutes, then fed for the next 30 minutes (although kept bobbing on and off every 2 minutes - this party will be remembered for me getting my boobs out all the time!) - then screamed for the next 30 minutes - then slept for the rest of the party!

Mind you, she slept through the whole of Mass this morning - that never happened once with Rhydian ... I had a dilemma of whether to leave her sleep, or whether to take her up for the blessing - I left her in the end, didn't want to tempt providence!

Can't remeber who asked about reuseable nappies - I've started using them now (that the poos have settled down to 1 or 2 big ones a day!) ... you need your nappy, a liner (paper ones are disposable - but can~ be reused if you get the Ultra type - like these) - I use fleece liners, as they wick the wee away from the skin, but wash well - like these.

You also need wraps - you'll need 3 or 4 as they don't need to be washed every time - the motherease airflow wraps are fab - here - I know I've linked to the nappy lady site for everything (no affiliation yada yada) - they've just been really helpful - if you email them and tell them what you've got, they will let you know what else you need - I'd definitely recommend their advice service - it's free and there's no need to buy anthing if you don't want to.

Right, am going to watch Strictly Come Dancing which I record faithfully ... and eat some tea!

Hope all's well with everybody ... waving madly to all those with sore nips, piles, and exhaustion ...

Oh, and a question ... has anybody attempted sex yet? I haven't, but we are seriuosly considering giving it a go ... just to see if it all still works!

lisad123 · 11/11/2007 20:20

ejt, attempted it at about 4 weeks didnt do very well as stitches hadnt healed well
Hoping to ....try in a few weeks once operation stitches come out. My tum looks like a road map. hmmm very sexy

lisad123 · 11/11/2007 20:22

LES, if you have nappies and wraps, then just get some paper linners for now, as they dont do loads at this time. You can use booters if you want, they stop nappy soaking quickly. HTH, messgae me if you want.
