Hello all

COngrats Inzi, posted comment on other thread

Hi Stefka, hope you get the feeding sorted soon. I echo alicet's comments about the nipple guards and lasinoh cream, they were a lifesaver when I fed ds1. I bf this one for 24 hours but then switched to ff as couldn't face the agony again 2nd time round as I was mega sore after just 24 hours and couldn't stand the pain of the boobs aswell as the csection I had

Well Ben has been so much better on the DR Brown bottles and new formula along with the Infacol, he is like a different child. He is now having about 5oz per feed and going between 4 and 5 and a half hours between feeds he is also settling much quicker and I am getting some decent sleep... well 6 hours instead of 4 but it seems to be enough to get me through the day Poor thing has a cold at the moment though so lots of snuffling and coughing going on.

I'm knackered today though, last night was DH's works do, the one where I had to dress up for, it was a good night but went far too quickly, got home 1am, didn't get to sleep till 3.30 though after waiting for Ben to wake for his feed and settling him and I slept on the sofa too as it was the easiest option but meant that I was awake every hour till 6.30am when he woke for another feed, so I had approx 3 hours kip and have been out shopping most of the day with my aunt and the boys, so I am just about to go to bed now, I figure I have approx 2-3 hours till his next feed

ejt1764 · 03/11/2007 20:57

Congrats Inzi .... 10lb 15oz!!! [wince emoticon needed here] - Mairwen is nearly 5 weeks old and still not that big!!

Off to express and then bed for me ... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

WheresMyWaistGone · 03/11/2007 22:13

Hello all and Hi Stefka - nice to 'see' you - the ante-natal thread is very quiet!

I had ds 2 weeks ago and 8lb8oz was plenty, thank you very much!

Someone mentioned a tear and I comiserate. I had a 3rd degree tear and had to go to theatre - I was gutted as I managed without an epidural during the birth, only to have one for the stitches...grrrr. Still, pain has more or less gone now, though still uncomfortable.

Stefka - I know what you mean about the feeding - it's so hard! I don't have sore nipples, but I am so worried that I'm not producing enough for him. But he is now heavier than his birth weight, so I guess it must be ok but when he demands feeding twice in as many hours, it makes you wonder how you can possibly be producing enough. I haven't been able to get expressing to work too well so far.

Well, he's sleeping and I have managed to get dinner (dh out tonight) so I might just manage a few more jobs before bed.

Nice to meet you all!

TheLadyEvenstar · 04/11/2007 10:48

Hi All,
thought i'd lost y'all for a while....

Well Zachary is now almost 7 weeks and weighs just over 10lb. He feeds well and still sleeps like an angel lolol please don't all shout at me. He is now in 0-3 month clothes and is looking like a real boy now lol. He has quirky little personality already ..if that possible.

How is everyone else and all LO's???

Just a quicky so I know where you all are now, am going to post some new pics of Zachary.

xxx

Stefka · 04/11/2007 11:38

Hey WMWG - nice to see you here too. I am having some good feeds and some bad feeds and I really don't know what I am doing wrong on the bad ones but it is very frustrating. Anyway he is about to wake up so I better go!

ejt1764 · 04/11/2007 11:47

Hi WMWG ... nice to meet you!

Hi tLES - lovely to see you again ... - am glad that Zachary is feeding and sleeping well (even though I'm a bit !)

With Mairwen and Rhydian both up quite a lot from 5am (Mairwen feeding, Rhydian just feeling lousy again), I feel like it's late afternoon already! Jonathan has just taken Mairwen up to the papershop so that I can have a shower ... but as he put the washing machine on I have to wait for it to finish!

We're going for a walk this afternoon up to the cliff top ... it's a beautiful day here... hope it's ok for everybody else!

alicet · 04/11/2007 12:35

Hi and welcome WMWG!

Well its a gorgeous day here too - we've been out to the park and for coffee. Adam has continued to be more settled although he woke more in the night - that will teach me to say he sleeps well!

Hello one and all - hope you'rte having lovely weekends

WheresMyWaistGone · 04/11/2007 14:23

Hi Stefka

I'm sure you're not doing anything wrong when it doesn't go well - it's just that it doesn't feel as nice to LO, or something like that. I had that with my right boob for about 2 days when my milk came in. It was very distressing, but I found that expressing a little before feeding him on it helped to take the bumpy hardness away and now he's happy with left or right...phew!

Gosh Alicet - walk and coffee already? It's 2.20 and I'm still in my dressing gown as LO was fraction from 10-12.30 and wouldn't be put down, but since then I have tidied the kitchen, put washing on, hung some out in the sun, and tidied the lounge.

Needless to say, 'D'H is "doing nothing" on the computer in the study...

Have a great rest of the day all.

J20DemondaughterandDevilbaby · 04/11/2007 15:32

Inzi has text me to say she is floating with love for baby Jane and will post as soon as possible.

Stefka · 04/11/2007 15:36

How long did it take everyone to leave the house after the birth? I haven't been out and it has been 2 weeks. I don't feel I can even have people over yet because of this feeding issue.

WinnieThePooh · 04/11/2007 16:23

Hi everyone.

Excuse the typing as I am feeding my little limpet.
Shula is doing well, taking her to the baby clinic at the surgery for the first time tomorrow.
We took Shula out when she was 3 days old. We went out for a pub lunch with my parents and my brother and his family. She slept the whole time we were there. The following day we took he to the register office.
I hope everyone else is well.

alicet · 04/11/2007 18:31

BABY NEWS!!!

Gemmamc has texted me to say that she has had her baby - Davide - by emergency section yesterday morning after 3 days in labour. She sounds very happy and hopes to be home tomorrow.

We were out loads as soon as I got home but last time took a bit longer before i was brave enough to go out and bf in public. Also never went out before midday then but this time its easier to be out as it keeps Sam happy!

Katsh · 04/11/2007 18:56

Hi, Congratulations Inzi and Gemmamac. Glad to hear so many are doing well. Stefka, I had ds 1 month ago ( same day as alicet! ) and I have hardly been out! Partly problems with section scar, spd and also currently have thrush on nipples, and bf is excrutiating so I can't really manage going anywhere. I'm not driving yet, and can't walk very far, so I'm fairly housebound. I also have not wanted too many visitors. I do have 2 other dd's so I'm trying to save my energy for them. I was feeling a bit useless about not having got out but it really doesn't matter. I know that when I'm feeling better it will happen. I was out much sooner with my other 2 so I guess it's just the way it is sometimes. Have to say sometimes having a visitor does make you feel better, especially if they tell you your baby is beautiful and that you are doing really well! They may also bring you treats , so maybe you could invite some good friends round to encourage you. Hope you have had a better day

J20DemondaughterandDevilbaby · 04/11/2007 20:08

hi guys

haven't got the energy to read all the posts properly, sorry, am feeling exhausted today, been on ab's for infection down below which should be working by now but had quite bad pain since last night in stomach and back, also dd1 isn't well and Shannon has either reflux or as i've just read up on, something called lactose overload, apparantly its where the baby gets too much of the fore milk and not enough of the fatty milk and it cauese fermentation in their bowel, giving them tummy ache, not sure which but i am going to try and get in to the docs tomorrow because it is wearing me down and i feel too weak to cope with her like this at the moment.

sorry for the me post again, congratulations to the new babies and hope you're all ok

WinnieThePooh · 04/11/2007 20:11

BABY NEWS

I have received a text from Collywobbles:
"Jacob was born at 9.31 and weighed 8lbs 15ozs."

nellieloula · 05/11/2007 08:11

congratulations and big welcome to all the new LO's! wonderful news.

hope everyone had a good night - Stefka, been thinking of you and hope you're managing ok. Really don't worry about not getting out much - you will. And it is such early days. I can't remember if this is your first?? If it is, enjoy the bedding in period cause you won't get a chance next time round! For the feeding, I would agree with everyone else on lansinoh and I have always found chilled savoy cabbage leaves an absolute godsend - they cool the engorgement down, which is an amazing feeling but also make it a bit easier to feed for boh you and your LO. I remember with DS I had to really persevere with feeding some days, the pain was excrutiating and DS didn't ever seem to be satisified - but it did eventually get better and we carried on for months. So try not to be too despondent, cause it should get better - equally, don't kill yourself trying. Far more important that you enjoy your baby and are calm and happy than stressing about b/feeding. You don't get these days back and they go so quickly. You need to think of you too.

J20 - very interested to hear about the fore milk tummy problem and I think Madeleine may have something similar.....hope you're ok and managed to get some rest.

I've had better days - was back at the hospital again at the weekend with my section scar which despite the antib's is infected again and also has a fungal infection on top of the scar. Nice!! So back on more antib's - I've had such contrasting info on these. Some dr's have said that they will affect the baby and make her poo very runny etc and others have said there are absolutely no effects on her whatsoever and the fact that she has very watery poo is symptomatic of something else - she seems fine otherwise, very hungry and difficult to settle last night but she is only 2 weeks old. What do you ladies think? Anyone have any experience of this??

also - and apologies for tmi - I had stopped bleeding and then suddenly started again last night (after a total break of 5 days) - bright red blood, not loads but enough to give me a bit of a shock. Is this normal do you think?? I was expecing it to last a lot longer so was surprised when it stopped so soon - could this be it just returning or something else? I'd read that it comes back if you're over doing it, but given that i'm on my own with a toddler and new born can't see how I can avoid that really!

anyway - enough from me. I'd really appreciate any one's thoughts though before I go back to the dr's. You often get more sense here! have a good morning everyone.

unicorn · 05/11/2007 09:35

hi all and congrats to all the new babes/mums...
INZI

re the foremilk, are the nappies green colured?... as that is a sign apparently. lo has had one of these, and does get tummy ache (or appears to) so will have to keep him on 1 boob a bit longer I think.

Still feeding a lot through night, and 10-1 is his frenzied unsettled time... not sure whether it's because he isn't getting enough milk or has had too much but because he is next to me he feels he has to keep sucking iykwim?

Am trying out the sling with him at mo as he really doesn't like being put down on his own, so i haven't been able ro leave him much... am hoping this will change!

take care all... and remember...sleep when the baby sleeps!!!!!!!

MrsFish · 05/11/2007 10:35

Wow, you wait ages and then they all come at once
Congrats gemmamc and Collywobbles, look forward to hearing the birth stories

Nellie - hope you are better soon. I also started bleeding again after a break of about 5 days, still have very slight discharge now and I am a month in.

J20 - I hope the docs can help you with Shannon. I sympathise with those of you bf with other children, I just couldn't contemplate doing it. I am extremely happy that I made the ff choice

Well yesterday with Ben was the best day yet. A 5oz feed at 8.15am, 5oz at 11.30am, 6oz at 4pm then a whopping 6 hours still his next feed at 10pm where he had 4oz and then one feed during the night at 3.30am with another 5oz I had lots of sleep and feel normal again. I wonder how today will go...

Off to see my mum today, she hasn't seen Ben since the first week and its the first long drive I have done, so hopefully I will be ok, hope everyone has a good day

J20DemondaughterandDevilbaby · 05/11/2007 16:05

just letting you know what doc said-it could be either of the things i thought, reflux or lactose overload, so i've got some colief drops to try which are a pita as you have to express a little milk to mix it first and then feed them normally. although if they work its worth it.

unicorn-nappies aren't green, sloppy yellow all the time, every feed, so i think it is reflux as she should get plenty of the fatty milk the amount of time she's hung off my boob!

mrsF glad your getting some sleep, 6 hours!? i dream of that!

i hope to be on more often if these drops work, so hopefully will be able to catch up properly with you all

WinnieThePooh · 05/11/2007 18:07

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all well today.

I took Shula to the baby clinic at the doctors surgery today for the first time. She now weighs 7lbs 13 ozs, which is a weight gain of 11ozs in a week.

ejt1764 · 05/11/2007 18:34

I look around for a minute - and more babies arrive ... our LOs are like buses!

Well, I had the feeding day from hell yesterday ... I was basically feeding Mairwen all the time from 5am until 830pm - even when we went out to walk along the cliff top, I spent 95% of the time sat on a bench feeding (though it did mean that I got to have a nose as they were filming "Gavin & Stacey" - pity I've never seen it! ... I was in floods of tears all over dh as I still feel absolutely lousy with cold, and my sinuses are hellishly painful ... have started snorting salt water - which is yuck and makes me gag [bleugh], but is my remedy of last resort - and it works fantastically!

Well, as you can imagine, I was in bed early last night - and it was a good thing too - Mairwen woke for a monster feed from 145 - 3, then every hour for the rest of the night - and I was up with her for about 35 minutes each time ... early to bed for me again tonight!

Rhydian had an INSET day today, so DH took the day off, and we went out for the afternoon - we took him to Cardiff Castle, as he's been mithering to go there for ages ... had a lovely time - but I spent a lot of time feeding (again) - and now feel even more wobbly - and now my pelvis hurts too ... that'll teach me!

I seem to remember these feeding spurts from last time - they don't last forever - although it certainly feels like it at times!

Here's hoping for a good night's sleep for us all tonight!

Stefka · 05/11/2007 19:08

That sounds like a complete nightmare ejt1764! How old is your LO? I hate the cluster feeds. Mainly because my nipples are badly cracked and it is so damn painful. I dread the times when Dareh wants to feed all the time.

He's about to wake up for a feed now - he's making little dolphin noises which means he's about to wake up!

ejt1764 · 05/11/2007 20:15

Stefka - Mairwen is 5 weeks old today ... the first of the October babies actually born in October!

With Rhydian, I remember clearly the 6-week feeding frenzy - everybody in my antenatal class went through it!

Having sorted out the positioning problems early on, I'm fortunate that it doesn't actually hurt ... but I definitely second the nipple shields as a way to get through this bit!

Have just put her down to bed ... am going to watch Strictly come dancing, then I'm going to bed myself ...

Night all!

alicet · 05/11/2007 20:32

Hello ladiess...

Big hugs J20... you haven't been having it easy have you? Hope the colief drops work their magic for you xxx

Ejt sounds like a rubbish day honey. Thinking of you too... Adam has also been hard work today so understand how you feel.

Nellie i had the bleeding a few days after stopping too - think katsch said she did too so might just be normal? I was put on antibiotics as a precaution when it happened again in case it was due to an infection but you're on these already! Hope all settles down soon.

And hello everyone else!

Well i have finally decided to wind down the bf. Feel pleased i have managed a month but i am just finding it too much with Sam to look after too - i'm fed up of going to do nice stuff with him but ending up spending the whole time bf Adam so not being able to share it with him. Also not trusting what he's had and therefore not having any confiednce that i ever know if he's hungry or not. I think i will be much more relaxed which will only be good for my boys. not in a rush - will take my time and if i get down to a couple of bf's and that settles things down i can always keep going like that - i'll play it by ear basically. a weight off my mind!

Stefka · 05/11/2007 21:47

Sounds like you have made a good decision for yourself Alice. I can't imagine trying to breast feed with another child to look after. There is no way I could have managed to deal with the problems I have been having if I had to take care of someone else too.
