Hi all

As I’m rubbish and keep double posting I thought I’d start a new thread as we’re nearly at 1k.
I don’t have all of the OG’s so apologies for anyone I miss or anyone I miss in general (blaming lack of coffee this morning!!)

Morning all!

@MrsH497 - oh those smiles are beautiful! It’s so weird when they start finding their voice isn’t it!? Getting used to all of the noises. Such a wonderful time though 😊

@Fivebyfive2 - happy birthday lovely lady!! Jealous of your pizza and cake!
I’m fine thank you; Finn is mimicking Joe and doing a 3 hour followed by 2 hour stretches but I’m sure it’s the regression. He’s settling pretty quickly again so hopefully it’s not going to last forever.

After months of banging on about reflux and eczema, I’m finally spoken to a GP who’s willing to give a non-dairy formula a try, so we’re off to pick that up now. Yay!! Let’s hope it settles him and doesn’t make anything worse; I’ve just gotten him to a good place with settling at night on his own 😂

@thumper59 - Freddie is absolutely gorgeous! @Fivebyfive2 as is Joe; I love those leggings; where are they from?!

OP posts:
Fivebyfive2 · 08/07/2020 11:11

@ELW85, they're from gap, I love them, they're so comfy for him too🙂 I hope Finn likes his new formula 🤞

ELW85 · 08/07/2020 13:32

@Fivebyfive2 - they look awesome!! How’s your birthday so far?

OP posts:
MrsR16 · 08/07/2020 21:30

@MrsH497 I'm genuinely not sure how the time's disappearing so quickly! Charlotte is so gorgeous! 8 weeks... make the most of it - it flies by like anything!

@thumper59 oh look at Freddie's gorgeous little face!! 😍 super cute!

@Fivebyfive2 happy birthday, lovely!! Joe does look super chilled out right there, bless him! Ethan's actually done alright today! Slept for nearly 8 hours last night, which is wonderful, but it was the one night i wasn't able to sleep well! 😂 typical huh?

@ELW85 ooh, well done you on your perseverance!! I've got everything crossed that Finn reacts well to the new formula...

ELW85 · 09/07/2020 07:48

Morning all

This maximum of 2 hours asleep is getting tiring! It’s weird he’s not properly waking up and crying but he’s flinging himself around? I feel like it’s developmental.
He laughed for the first time this morning, and it was beautiful 💙
Makes it all worthwhile!

@MrsR16 - here’s hoping!
@MrsEG - I’ve not been able to stop thinking about your poor friend. Absolutely awful.

OP posts:
Fivebyfive2 · 09/07/2020 10:25

@ELW85, I'm with you! Joe started sleeping better, but the last few days he's been soooo distracted in the day, he's hardly feeding unless it's before a nap... He's then making up for it at night by waking every 2 hours to feed 🤦‍♀️ I asked for advice from the bf support group I'm on, but all I get is 'oh yes, totally normal, just feed him in the night, he won't starve'.... I'm like yeah that's great, except I don't want to be feeding him all night and having him hardly eating in the day?!! I'm on the verge of going to bottles in the day to see if it makes a difference and seeing if we can just do breastfeeds at night.

How's everyone doing today?? Xx

ELW85 · 09/07/2020 10:41

@Fivebyfive2 - it’s very tiring! You could express for the daytime?
He might be going through something though if he’s off his food; probably developmental? I feel like we go round in circles with these reasons why 😂
Finn is always tired after the night time and it’s like “yes mate, you keep flinging yourself about when you could be sleeping solidly!”
Did you have a nice birthday? Xx

I think I’m sabotaging him though; I think I’m breaking his first nights sleep cycle by having his bedtime at 9pm and waking him up at 7 for bath etc. Should probably be putting him to bed earlier? But then I don’t really wanna go to bed at 7 but it’s my only chance to catch up. Aaaaarrrrgghh!

MrsEG · 09/07/2020 10:55

Morning all! Keep feeling like I’m falling behind on this thread!
My friend hasn’t done too well and has actually been checked in to a psychiatric unit but I’m glad she’s there. I haven’t asked too many questions but I think it’s very bad PTSD. I honestly think everything with maternity units now is almost going against basic human rights.

@ELW85 how is Finn on the new milk? I’m not sure what you’re meaning about bedtime...... but the boys go to bed at 7, after baths at half 6. I just put the monitor on then, and go downstairs and enjoy my evening! They’ve had a bedtime since they were about 12/13 weeks I think. Definitely when we moved them to the nursery. For a bit they’d sometimes wake for a feed around midnight but quickly dropped it as we upped their feeds during the day.

@Fivebyfive2 Hope you had a great birthday!! 32 you’re a baby I was 35 last month!

@thumper59 oh Freddie is so so gorgeous!!

We realised today that it’s a year ago we had our viability scan at the RMC and found out it was twins! Feels crazy that was only a year ago and now they’re 5 months old!! I was very luck to win a baby steamer thing on Instagram last night so well ready for the weaning now!!
We’re in proper teething hell at the minute (hence why I can’t keep up!!) they’re refusing any teether and both just want to be held all day! Most mornings they cry solid until their first nap, I think they must be waking up in pain. These bloody teeth!! Here’s a pic of them all dolled up yesterday with nowhere to go haha!

stormtrooperjulian · 09/07/2020 11:09

@ELW85 I hope the dairy free formula helps! I don't think it matters too much what bedtime you choose as long as the wake windows are right. Do you have to wake him every day? Can you just let him sleep til he wakes himself? I think around 12 hours of sleep a night is a good goal. Dex's bedtime is 8pm and I wake him at 8am if he's not already up.

@Fivebyfive2 can you try feeding in a dark, quiet room so there aren't any distractions?

@MrsEG poor boys, teething must be so upsetting for them! Do you have anbesol liquid? It's much better than the gel.

ELW85 · 09/07/2020 11:37

@stormtrooperjulian - I would pay to have to wake him 😂 he was flailing about at around 7 this morning and properly up at 7.30. @MrsEG I usually let him nap in the evening til 8 then it’s bed by 9.30.
I’m just thinking if he goes to bed at 7.30 for example if he’s only doing 2/3 hour stunts at the moment, I won’t get the chance to catch up on my sleep as I don’t want to sleep at 7.30, if you get me?
But I also think I might be eating into his nighttime sleep by waking him up to put him to bed, so might not be doing anyone any favours!

They didn’t have any milk in yesterday so have to go back today.
Might get some carobel too as I’ve read it’s really thin milk which won’t help the reflux!

@MrsEG - I was telling DH about your poor friend and he pointed out that it’s so wrong that people can go out drinking but not go to scans. Good point. Sounds like she’s getting the help she needs bless her, but it shouldn’t have to cone to that.
Poor boys! They look gorgeous as ever though 😊
Nice work on winning the steamer! Are you excited for weaning?

Finn has started draining 180ml. Not sure if upping his bottles is a good idea (reflux/small stomach) so might have to increase the number he has in a day.

OP posts:
MrsEG · 09/07/2020 11:58

@ELW85 in that case with my limited experience of reading a few books haha, I’d definitely be doing a 7pm bedtime - it’s supposed to be 12 hours bedtime sleep and then looking at awake time in the day so if Finn is having another awake block before 9pm he’s possibly having too much during the day, which can then affect bedtime sleep. One big vicious cycle haha! The boys slept so much better after they started going down at 7; you need a proper bedtime routine too but I’m sure you already have that!

@stormtrooperjulian I hadn’t even heard of the liquid! I’ll be on Amazon prime now!

ELW85 · 09/07/2020 13:57

@MrsEG - I’ll give that a go then 😊

Picked up the new milk. He got halfway through it before spluttering, arching his back and kicking bud legs. It was awful. No idea if it’s making his reflux worse (he was fine after his feeds this morning) or because he only managed a small lunch nap and had a meltdown and was still tired.
Today has been tough.

@ELW85 - How are you? Tough days are the worst....yesterday I sat on the floor and just held the boys and cried with them 🙈 hope your day gets easier - How’s Finn and the infection?

@LikeTheFruit - Esme looks beautiful! How is she after the injections?

@MrsR16 - Thank you! How are you getting on in lockdown?

@MrsEG - When I was pregnant they detected their kidneys wasn’t draining as much as they should but once again due to Covid the answers we have had are pretty limited! We have now be referred to paediatrics and now waiting a appointment.
Yes twins are so hard work, yesterday I just sat on the floor and cried with them! How’s teething going?

@MrsH497 - What a gorgeous smile! How is she doing?

Just wondering how much your baby is taking/taken at around 4/5 months of milk in a 24 hour period? Benjamin just isn’t fussed by milk....by this time yesterday he had 9oz and today he has taken 10.5oz and just isn’t fussed at all and so a bit of a loss what to do!

MrsH497 · 09/07/2020 14:29

Oh @ELW85 reflux and dairy is tough I hope you're doing ok.

@PippaPug she's doing good. We've got jabs tomorrow. Good days and bad days with the reflux and CMPA don't think it helps she's going through a leap at the moment. But the smiles are just amazing! How are the boys?

It's so muggy at the moment really feels like we need a storm to clear the air x

TrashKitten10 · 09/07/2020 15:01

@PippaPug The boys are gorgeous! I didn't realise they had been having problems with their kidneys, that must be really tough for you :( hopefully the doctors will be able to come up with a plan to get them better.

@LikeTheFruit spirited is definitely the word 😂 As a teacher I love the spirited ones, the kids who have that feisty determination. But turns out parenting them is a tiring business! Esme is beautiful and I love her little outfit. Looks like she can't wait to be up and about herself!

@MrsEG We've got bibado bibs which help with the mess a bit as most of it falls into the bib. That's exciting they're showing signs of readiness. When are they 6 months? That is such incredibly sad news about your friend. Poor lady having to hear that alone 😢 Sounds like the boys are going through a rough time with their teeth, poor things :( Any signs of anything popping through the gum yet? Once they're eating solids you could try some nice cold cucumber to munch on.

@ELW85 Shocking about your DH's work, can't believe they are willing to risk everybody's health like that. How lovely you got your first laugh, makes every rough moment worth it :)

@MrsH497 Look at those smiles 😍 Gorgeous girly.

@thumper59 What a monkey shaking his head and carrying on 😂 Such a cheeky chappy :)

@fivebyfive2 Happy belated Birthday! Did you have a good day? Joe looks so content in that photo bless him. Feeding every two hours in the night isn't ideal, all well and good the BF advisors saying that whilst they get a good nights sleep!

stormtrooperjulian · 09/07/2020 15:20

@ELW85 what is the new formula made of? I've heard that a lot of babies with a milk intolerance also have issues with soy so if it's a soy based formula that could be an issue. The tough days are awful! Tomorrow will be a better day.

@TrashKitten10 I have a spirited one too 😂

MrsR16 · 09/07/2020 17:01

@Fivebyfive2 every 2 hours is tough!!

@MrsEG oh dear god, look at those two boys!! 😍 simply gorgeous and looking very proud of themselves 😂 teeth get better!! I promise you - Ethan's not been half as sad as he was! However, it came to an awful climax the day before he popped his first one... but it gets better ever so quickly!

@ELW85 I'm sorry you're having a tough day today! Trying to figure out a routine for them is hard enough without reflux/possible dairy intolerance thrown in the mix! But you're doing amazingly well - try and remember that! I'm in awe 😊

@PippaPug you're doing a bloody awesome job too! I have bad days with Ethan but I can't even imagine it with twins... we're not doing too badly - I'm so pleased that lockdown's lifting. We're going to stay at my parents this weekend which'll be awesome!

@MrsH497 I completely agree! A storm is definitely required...

Fivebyfive2 · 09/07/2020 19:06

@MrsR16, I'm glad Ethan is doing better! We've tried something a bit different today... No bottle but I have offered feeds constantly! Varying degrees of success, but he has also had 2 meals, for the first time ever! He had some mashed veg again for lunch and wolfed it down and then we tried ready brek for tea but he wasn't keen. To test if he wasn't hungry or if he wanted something different, we tried him with a pouch of banana, yoghurt and oats.... He demolished it!! He's just had a feed from me to get him sleepy (after a massage and a few lullabies) now he's nodded off in my lap and is conked out in the snuzpod. We'll see if he is any more settled tonight 🤞

ELW85 · 09/07/2020 19:37

Evening all

Sorry - I thought I’d replied earlier!
Got Finn down for the night (Hahahaha obv not, I give it a max of 3 hours) so we’ll see how bringing his bedtime forward works out.

@PippaPug - sorry you had a tough day yesterday! We definitely all have days like that. I think he’s over the worst of his infection but today has been a write off with the stupid new milk.

@stormtrooperjulian - I think the problem is the new milk is so thin, his reflux is just kicking it straight back up. Tried again with a second bottle and it was just as bad, so back to the usual and call the docs again tomfrow.

@MrsR16 - oh what a lovely thing to say! Honestly I’m just struggling on like we all are but I definitely couldn’t cope without you lovely ladies and your wonderful support 🥰

@TrashKitten10 - I’m horrified at DH’s work, honestly. He’s in all weekend too so I’ll be bored and worried. Great!

@MrsEG - one of the boys takes a dummy to sleep doesn’t he? Has it caused any problems with having to get up to put it back in during a regression or anything? Finn has suddenly started taking one and falling asleep independently with it but I’m thinking I might need to get him out if the habit?

@MrsH497 - getting there! How’s Charlotte getting on with reflux?

OP posts:
MrsH497 · 09/07/2020 22:28

@ELW85 good days and bad days. The bad days are really hard. We've had a couple of bad days yesterday and today. She's cried so much bless her and I can hear her swallow the acid on the bad days. It has definitely helped me cutting dairy out of my diet she's definitely less sick and less projectile. GP has said to try a little dairy in my diet every 2-3 months see if she reacts and then take it out again if needed. Hopefully she will grow out of it.

How's Finn doing?

MrsR16 · 09/07/2020 22:35

@Fivebyfive2 that's great news! Well done Joe! Sounds like you're doing great with him/weaning 😊 I've bought a couple of jars with bits in for him to try over the next week or so... 😂 that'll be fun!

@ELW85 of course! This group is one of the best things ever 😊 I'm genuinely so pleased I happened across you guys!

@MrsH497 I'm so glad Charlotte seems less sicky today! It's a relief isn't it? However, I hope tomorrow's a good day for you lovely 🤞🤞

MrsH497 · 09/07/2020 22:52

@MrsR16 I've written the day off for the calpol ready mum is sorting dinner for me as DH is late shift bring it on!

She was beside herself tonight totally overtired and let's be honest you can't reason with an 8 week old and explain they need sleep so the best thing to do is to sleep! 😂

ELW85 · 10/07/2020 06:36

Well last night was interesting.
He did a 4.5 hour stretch to nearly midnight so we have him a bottle as he definitely hadn’t had enough through the day. The interesting thing was that I was here with him in our room and I saw him wake up 4 times and settle himself. Why not at 4am Finn??
I was aware that he was waking last night but I think he’s settling more? I was seeing every second hour instead of every hour at least...

@MrsH497 - the tiredness makes the reflux worse too so it’s a vicious circle, bless you all! Finn was much happier back on his normal milk so back to square one!
