Hi all

As I’m rubbish and keep double posting I thought I’d start a new thread as we’re nearly at 1k.
I don’t have all of the OG’s so apologies for anyone I miss or anyone I miss in general (blaming lack of coffee this morning!!)

@ELW85, cross post! Sounds like they were definitely interested, otherwise it is a strange thing to ask to see?! Xx

LokiCat · 15/08/2020 15:44

Hi ladies! We had an interesting morning. Alayna had done a poo after waking up, so when I put her on the changing mat she started wriggling around so much in the nappy which squished out the sides and then did a wee which went all up her back, neck and hair 🙈 so I had to give her a bath half awake at 6:30, then got DH to take over and I went back to bed!
We've now come to stay at my parents till tomorrow evening, which I'm so happy about as she pretty much loves feeding her and putting her to sleep so I can relax (it also helps that my dad always fills the freezer with ice cream when he knows I'm coming 😂) 😁🙊

@ELW85 ahh what a lovely photo, look at Finns face, bless him 😂🥰 I'm so glad lunch went well. Also that he's sleeping better.
That's interesting about the viewing - I've never asked to see the water pressure in the showers 😂 fingers crossed it's a good sign!!

@Fivebyfive2 I absolutely destroyed the ice cream 😂😁
Ahh that's so exciting that Joe could be on the move soon. I was warned about the bottom cupboards in the kitchen for Alayna - apparently they love getting into them! Enjoy your lazy day :)

@MrsEG how did you get on at the gym? I've downloaded this Baby2Body app to help me slowly get back into it (although haven't opened the app again since I first downloaded and set it up 😂). Hope I can get the motivation to start again soon.

@MrsR16 that's brilliant that you may have found a childminder! It's definitely important that you all felt comfortable with her. When are you looking to start with her?

purplefig · 15/08/2020 19:18

@MrsEG great news your physio has paid off! Can I ask how they checked your pelvic floor issue?! I want to go see our postpartum specialist but not sure what to expect! Good on you for getting back to the gym 💪🏼 the most I manage these days is a quick YouTube baby and me workout 😳 luckily M is a BRUTAL pt 😂

@ELW85 water pressure investigating has to be a good sign?!?! Love that photo of you two 💕 and I'm soooo pleased lunch went well. They love to surprise us don't they?! Ahhh man I hear you on the body issues....I'm soooo proud of my body, but also, um, why do I now have bat wings?!?!?

@MrsR16 sorry to hear about Ethan's sleep, it's actually rotten being sleep deprived!! Glad you had a fab bbq though 🌞. And even better the childminder viewing went positively! When will he start?

@LokiCat oh gawwwwd - I remember those!!! So bad it's not even worth attempting wet wipes 😂

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend? It's cooled right off here thankfully.

M is doing pretty decent, sleeping through about half the time, one wake up the other half. But the best thing in her life right now is food glorious food!!!! She is absolutely loving life 😂 faves so far have been yoghurt, banana and pb and tonight she had our lasagna mix (blitzed up until lumpy) with tiny baby pasta and some cheese 👌🏼. I was worried about her moving past purées, but she's fine with lumps. Also hats of to those of you doing BLW, dear god the mess!!! We're sticking to spoon feeding a little while longer 😳 x

MrsR16 · 15/08/2020 19:39

@ELW85 @LokiCat @purplefig he'll officially start on 2 November, but we'll be arranging short settling in sessions for the month prior so he's not dropped in at the deep end! 😂

@Fivebyfive2 he hates the playpen when he realises he's trapped in, even though it's huge! See picture... but otherwise he's safe and I know exactly what he's up to and can wash bottles, or go for a wee, etc etc without worrying!

@ELW85 I meant to say earlier that the photo of you and Finn is just magical! So cute! I hope the viewing ends up being positive! Certainly sounds it! Although when I bought my house, I didn't think about the shower pressure? 😂

@LokiCat oh dear!! Alayna, you little monkey!

@purplefig that's wonderful that M is loving food!! 😊

MrsEG · 16/08/2020 09:02

Morning all! Hope everyone’s had a good weekend so far. We went for a big walk yesterday with the boys and it was fab, they were so, so well behaved. All the old dears in the cafe cooing over Ruairí as he tried constantly to rip off my mask 🙈
Ruairí has cut his first tooth this morning!! I’d noticed the skin really break in the last few days so I’ve been obsessed haha and I can now see the tooth :) he’s quite grumpy and dribbly with it though so he’s had calpol with his breakfast!

@ELW85 That sounds promising with the viewer! I feel quite similar to your friend I think, I do feel like I’m a bit of a slave to their naps - if someone ever asks me to do something and I know it’s at a really impractical time or when they’d normally be asleep I panic haha, but I just try and plan things around them or ask to change the times so I can still get out! You look WONDERFUL by the way; body image after a baby is a weird old thing isn’t it. Our bodies have just done something so amazing it’s almost hard to believe it’s true - actually made another person! And we all give ourselves such a hard time - myself included. I have this dumb fear of not being back to my pre-twins weight when I get back to work and people noticing. Like anyone would care!

@MrsR16 the childminder sounds wonderful!! It’s so true that you just ‘know’ when you’ve found the right place. The boys nursery is full of other twins and some were being picked up when I was there and their Nana got chatting to me, she wouldn’t say a bad word about the place. They even potty trained her granddaughters!
I love your playpen!! We have one of the big plastic ones. I haven’t put it up yet but really need to!!

@LokiCat Haha oh poor Alayna and her early morning bath!! Have you ever tried the pampers nappy pants? We use them at night now, they have an elastic waist and haven’t had a single leak. They’re pricey so we just use them at bedtime but they’re amazing!

@purplefig The pelvic floor check is internal! My physio knows all my secrets haha! They check the muscle itself, any separation, then the strength of it. It’s been so worth it for me - a bunch of my NCT mums have all been since I’ve raved about it and one girl who thought she was fine has found out her PF is utterly awful!! We all remind each other to get our exercises done haha! Mine wasn’t/isn’t great but I’m starting to see some improvements recently. No more leaks after a run or long power walk! That’s so fab about M, little foodie on your hands!! The boys are still on purées mainly as when I’m offering finger foods they hardly eat it but they horse the purées down! They are having lumpy stuff with rice and things but I gave them a banana and they literally just sucked it 🙈

MrsR16 · 17/08/2020 11:37

Morning lovelies, hope you all enjoyed your weekends!

@MrsEG oh bless Ruairí!! They say they come in pairs so I wonder how long it will be before the next one's through! Just an adorable photo 😊 The playpen is a lifesaver! I can actually do things without worrying Ethan's eating something he shouldn't, or doing something he shouldn't 😂😂

Fivebyfive2 · 17/08/2020 22:01

Hey all, hope everyone is OK and had a good weekend?

We, had a nice night at my parents and dh has tomorrow and Wednesday off, so all good here. Joe sooo wants to move, I hope he gets there soon as he, can get pretty frustrated!

@MrsR16, definitely copying you on the playpen when he starts, Joe will definitely be trying to eat the cats food... Probably the cat too now I think about it 😂

@ELW85, how's Finn and have you heard back about any viewings?? X

@MrsEG, how are the boys and their teeth?? We're 8 months in with none through yet but we can definitely see a few underneath...

MrsR16 · 17/08/2020 22:20

@Fivebyfive2 I'm so pleased you had a good time! And yay for DH having a couple of days off 😊 honest to god, it's a lifesaver and has saved Ethan from being strung up 😂 Ethan tries to eat the dog's tail, so I'm sure the cat won't be out of the question for Joe!

MrsEG · 18/08/2020 06:46

Hi ladies,

So in a mad twin twist, Conor cut his first tooth the same day!! I noticed it as he was laughing in the afternoon. What are the chances!!

@MrsR16 yeah we can already see the second tooth about to break next to them, which makes sense as they are still really quite miserable bless them! Poor Ruairí just sat and cried in the bath before bed last night! It must hurt their gums so much!! I need to get the playpen up just trying to decide where it fits best. Ruairí is so good at moving backwards now that if I take my eyes off him for a few seconds I look back and he’s shuffled under the table 🙈

@Fivebyfive2 Ah that’s great DH has weds off, my DH has weds as a day off too! Breaks the week up! They’re okay but grumpy, they really wail in pain from their teeth some days - Neurofen has been my best friend! I’m sure Joes are on their way, the boys are the first in our NCT group getting theirs so I think they’re just super early!

ELW85 · 18/08/2020 08:35

Morning all

Sorry for the radio silence and thank you for all of your lovely comments on the photo.
I still hate how I look at the minute but meh! Worse things have happened at sea etc.

I’ve been quiet as I’ve been feeling a bit shit about the house (still nothing) and panicking about going away.
Finn’s just gotten back to settling himself to sleep again so I don’t really want to ruin it.
And we definitely don’t have enough space in either car to get everything we need up the road.

One positive is that I went to see Finn’s photos yesterday and she’d put a video together. Cried my eyes out. It’s cheesy to an extent but something just totally got me and I got really emotional.
Finn just sat there and looked at me like “you ok mate?” Thinking about putting it on my Insta but it is a touch on the cheesy side!!

Anyways sorry for the self-centred ramble!

How are we all today?

@MrsEG - that’s crazy about their teeth! The twin stuff is so gorgeous though, and it must melt you every time something like that happens!

@MrsR16 - pleases you’ve not been washed away! Any tips on baby jails? Sorry, play pens? 😂

@Fivebyfive2 - I’ve got an image of Joe in my head going after Maximo with the Jaws music playing!

@purplefig - I bet you look amazing! And go M with the lasagne (I’m actually jealous, haven’t had one in ages, haha!!) I’ve allegedly got a virtual weaning class this morning if Sir FinnPop allows it 😂

Sorry if I’ve missed anything guys. I’m sat in the dark watching Finn nap contemplating a town with the estate agents so I’m not as focussed as I should be xx

Fivebyfive2 · 18/08/2020 12:08

@ELW85, ha ha your vision is so accurate!! Last night Maximo came up by us and Joe just put his arms out, lunged forward and went 'aaaahhh' at him, poor cat was like wtf, I'm outta here! God help him when Joe can move around! Don't stress too much about going away, Finn may surprise you and even if it throws him off, you can always right it when you're home. Just try and enjoy the change of scenery.

LokiCat · 18/08/2020 14:08

Hi all. Last night was absolutely awful; Alayna was up every hour and because I wasn't able to fall asleep in between, I was up all night 😫
DH took her down at 7 and I went to sleep till about 11, but feel so exhausted and groggy!
It's apparently her stormy week and she has been quite irritable since Friday. I think it might be because she's teething, as well. I've given her calpol the last two days but not sure what else to do to help 🙈
She's having a nap now and we might pop out to GBK for a late lunch, hopefully it goes well!

Sorry selfish post, I'll try catch up with you all tonight. I hope you're all having a lovely day! X

Fivebyfive2 · 18/08/2020 14:53

@lokicat, aaahh I'm sorry you had a rubbish night! Mine was bad too, Joe was up every 2 hours and that included a 2.15 till 3.45 wake up 🙁 Hopefully we both have better nights tonight! Xx

I can see 2 top teeth on under his top gums, they look quite swollen to me but not broken through yet.

The in law drama continues, I've actually posted in aibu! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3999078-Fil-return-from-Spain?watched=1&msgid=99260067#99260067

ELW85 · 18/08/2020 16:06

Hi guys

@LokiCat - the regression is TOUGH but you’ll get through it! I hope you managed to get your GBK and some sleep!

@Fivebyfive2 - totally NOT being unreasonable by the way!
Ah man I wish there was a video of Maximo-gate 😂

I need cheering up today. Finn is still shuddering a few times a day and nobody in my ante natal group has experience of it so I’m proper scared.
GOs are reviewing video that I managed to capture...

OP posts:
MrsEG · 18/08/2020 19:25

@ELW85 Id definitely say go on the trip, 100%! All trips/holidays bugger anyone’s routine so it’s just a new thing for them to get used to, and us! Don’t miss out on the memories. That’s how I’m looking at our break, anyway! Ahh poor Finn, hope the GP comes back to you soon, and that it’s nothing. When you say ‘shuddering’ is he shaking?

@LokiCat Oh god that sounds very very rough! Really hope you’ve managed to get a bit of rest today!

@Fivebyfive2 When the boys teeth cut it almost looked like an ulcer first and then within a few days the white tooth had poked through. They’re just hideous today though, so so miserable. I’m barely scraping through the day without collapsing in to tears!

MrsEG · 18/08/2020 19:36

Oh @Fivebyfive2 I completely missed your AIBU - you’re not being unreasonable at all, technically your MIL wouldn’t have to quarantine but your FIL having such a cavalier attitude to it and essentially breaking the law would piss me right off. Just be firm about it, don’t make it a discussion/conversation just literally tell him if he’s not willing to do it then you won’t be seeing them for 2 weeks to be on the safe side. End of story! I had to put my foot down with my ILs over not baptising the boys, first time I’ve ever really asserted myself with them and it was fine. They weren’t delighted but you can’t argue if someone has clearly said no!

MrsR16 · 18/08/2020 22:57

@MrsEG I am so feeling for you right now with the two teething twins!! ❤️ one was bad enough... omg I'm so glad it's not just Ethan who loves being under a table! 😂

@ELW85 I've copied the link to the one I bought below. I ordered it Thursday and it arrived Friday! Super speedy and perfect for what we need! I absolutely love the photo video! Simply beautiful 😍

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/113719156809

@LokiCat oh goodness, that doesn't sound much fun at all! Hopefully tonight's better for you.

@Fivebyfive2 I'd be telling FIL where to stick it! 😂 but then, I'm not known for my tact and diplomacy! My feeling is, your child, your rules! If you don't want the ILs seeing you for whatever reason (let alone COVID!) then that's your prerogative for sure. Chat to DH about it though, as I'm sure you're already doing! Be prepared to batten down the hatches... 😂

ELW85 · 19/08/2020 12:05

Morning all

So the GPs reviewed their video last night which resulted in us being sent to hospital as they hadn’t seen anything like it and “shared my concerns”

They don’t think it’s seizures but think it’s something called Myoclonic shudders. Not common but not necessarily abnormal.
As long as it doesn’t develop further, it shouldn’t affect his development and he should grow out of it.
DH definitely isn’t up for the trip anymore in case something happens.

We’ve got to go back to the hospital in a few weeks and in the meantime I need to try and get as many videos as I can.

I feel drained and like I’m just not enjoying this at all. It’s one thing to the next.
The consultant asked why nobody has helped with the eczema and CMPI earlier and I had to point out that the docs didn’t really believe me and I had to try every GP in the surgery until someone listened.

So we have Neocate to try as well as an army of lotions and potions. She thinks part of it could be that he’s wriggling around to try and scratch his eczema.

@MrsEG - yeah it’s a shake/looks a bit like a shiver.

@MrsR16 - thanks for the link! Looking forward to getting a baby jail 😂

OP posts:
purplefig · 19/08/2020 13:00

@ELW85 omg you poor thing. I'm not surprised you feel like that, it really has been one thing after the next for you guys. On top of all the regular new baby stuff. Oh and you know, living through a global pandemic. and you're trying to sell your house (which is listed as one of the main life stressors for a good reason). Bloody hell. Please try and go easy on yourself and be as kind as possible. Not trying to be bossy but sometimes we need a gentle reminder.

@Fivebyfive2 I'm never brave enough to post in AIBU but FWIW I don't think you are being unreasonable. Your FIL sounds like a dingbat!

@LokiCat aghrrrr that's so hard. Is it the four month regression?

@MrsEG that's mad the boys both cut teeth on the same day! Sorry they're both so grumpy with it atm, it must be so rotten for them. A friend told me to google baby teeth X-ray and I've had much more compassion ever since! Could you let them have a gnaw on some cold cucumber? How're you doing? Thanks for sharing your physio experience. I'm pretty sure everything is fine no pain / leaking etc but still....it feels like a big thing to go through without having any checks?!

All ok here. M is still doing 6.30/7pm until 5am most nights which is just unreal. Need to work on extending to 6/7 at some point, but honestly right now I couldn't care less it's such an improvement!

Can we talk about awake periods?? She's suddenly started going to 3 hrs seemingly out of nowhere. It's weird though because sometimes she'll do her tired cues at 2 hrs but if I try and put her down she's clearly not interested in sleep. X

MrsEG · 19/08/2020 13:42

@purplefig That’s my thoughts exactly - child birth / major surgery and you’re just packed off with some paracetamol! My physio told me some women have no clue they have any post-birth issues until they hit the menopause and have an awful time of it, and the problems can be traced right back to post-birth problems that weren’t spotted. Which is just crazy!! And honestly it’s an easy check. Seems mad it isn’t part and parcel of post-partum care!
I’ve seen those x-rays!! Mad!!
So, the boys are actually about to drop their last nap at the mo, they’re almost 7 months old now so it’s a little early but almost right! So I’ve done a lot of reading and chatting on awake times! 3 hours is quite a long stretch for M’s age, the boys are only on 2.5, once they drop the nap we’ll be worked on closer to 3 to stretch out the time between their two naps. They say if it doesn’t affect their mood and night time sleep, it’s no problem though. But it COULD be the key to getting her to 7 - the boys were chronic 5:45 wakers for bloody ages and it only moved to 7 once I sorted their awake time and naps out and got a proper routine going there. But they’re all so different!

@ELW85 What a night! You poor thing. How’s Finn today? Ruairí’s eczema is awful on his chest and face and he does go a bit mad trying to scratch at it. I can’t cover his hands though as his fist is his fave teether! I really hope the formula and creams help you all out!

@MrsR16 I just can’t believe they’re cutting them at the same time 🙈 Yesterday was just hell but they’re a bit more spritely today! Has Ethan got anymore coming? I can already see one of Ruairí’s top ones!

Older babies - when babies start doing this does it mean crawling is imminent?? It’s all he ever wants to do these days!

TTC First Baby Catch-up With Our Babies Continued!!
MrsR16 · 19/08/2020 14:18

@ELW85 oh my goodness, you poor thing! At least the consultant you saw sounds helpful! Hopefully when the discharge letter gets back to your GP surgery, that might kick them up the rear end...

@purplefig that's wonderful that M is sleeping so well! 5am isn't much fun, but it's soo much better than 4! 😂

@MrsEG I'm glad today's better! 😊 I don't think he's got any that are imminent, but there's certainly days where they're moving about and he's epically grumpy! Ethan was up on hands and knees for about a week before he decided to start going backwards 😂 and then he figured out how to drag himself forward!!

Fivebyfive2 · 19/08/2020 19:40

@ELW85, hang in there! It's tough but you are an amazing mum and at least they're on the case now xx I hope you have a good night xx

@purplefig, I can't help too much with wake windows, Joe is 8 months now and will do anything from 2.5 to 5 hours depending on how he is feeling?! Like some days he always seems tired and others he can absolutely ages without a nap and still seems happy?! It's great M is sleeping so well, I don't blame you for not wanting to disrupt anything!

@MrsEG, definitely looking like he'll be off soon 👍😀 Joe is still working it out... He rolls everywhere and either tries crawling or if he's sitting, he tries to bum shuffle 😂

Here he is with his sippy cup after his tea of toast and baby biscuits. He had pasta for lunch (homemade for once!) and yoghurt for breakfast. Little fat pudding 😂

TTC First Baby Catch-up With Our Babies Continued!!
LokiCat · 19/08/2020 21:32

Hi all, thanks for your words of support. So I don't think it's the regression, I think she's trying to get out of the swaddle - she keeps trying to roll and ends up pushing herself to the top corner of the Snuzpod 🤦🏻‍♀️ Last night was somewhat better; she slept till 1:30, then till 3, but then kept fighting her swaddle till 4:30 (she'd fall asleep then wake up after 10-15mins, until I ended up bringing her into bed and she slept till 7:15. I've put her in a transitional swaddle today with one arm out, so will see if that is any better!
We went to a baby class today and got a taste of baby yoga and baby massage. Alayna did so well and seemed to be enjoying herself and I felt so good just getting out and doing something just the two of us! Might sign up to the autumn term classes.

@ELW85 oh what a night for you guys, I hope you're okay. I'm glad you've found out what it is and hopefully he'll grow out of it. Also it's great that you've found a helpful consultant! I really hope the creams work. I'm so sorry you e had such a tough time of it, you're doing absolutely brilliantly. Sending lots of big hugs your way ❤️

@purplefig M is sleeping amazingly! I don't blame you for not wanting to disrupt such a great routine. Alayna seems to have a mixed bag of wake windows. Anywhere between 1.5 to 2 hours, but sometimes she's shows tired cues an hour after waking up. I've been using the Huckleberry app and generally it's spot on with her nap times.

@MrsEG how crazy that cut their first tooth on the same day!
Thanks for the Pampers rec in btw. We actually had a pack in that DH found discounted (we normally use Sainsbury's own brand) so using that for the first tine tonight - we had another small leak (thankfully no early morning bath required) 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Fivebyfive2 ahh look at Joe! Sounds like he's doing really brilliantly with the weaning!
I don't think you're being unreasonable at all in regards to your FIL! Stick to your guns (I know it's easier said than done!)
I hope you've been having better nights sleep

@MrsR16 hope you and Ethan are doing well 😊

Ladies how did you get your babies to have an earlier bedtime? Alayna has always fallen asleep around 9. If I manage to get her to sleep before 9, she treats it like a nap and then wakes up half hour later. Anything after 9 and she has her long stretch before waking for a night feed. So strange! Any tips? X

MrsEG · 20/08/2020 06:41

@MrsR16 Oh bless him! Ruairí can already go backwards but then gets frustrated and gets in to his weird plank position! Conor isn’t doing it yet though; I get the feeling from talking to my NCT group Ruairí is jumping the gun a bit here doing this at not even 7 months!
It’s horrid the pain they get in when the teeth are just moving under the gums isn’t it :( Thank god for Neurofen!

@Fivebyfive2 Yeah my niece was a bum shuffler for ages it’s so cute! Oh bless him, how does he get on with water? Conor is fab but Ruairí dribbles it everywhere 🙈

@LokiCat Hello lovely! So, can only talk from my own experiences but if she’s trying to roll it’s probably time to get rid of the swaddle and start using sleeping bags. You might have a few unsettled nights (Sorry!) as she gets used to it but I put the boys in them for naps too in the day to quicken up the transition!! The boys were exactly the same in swaddles once they started moving and became very frustrated with them.
Bedtime, for me the key was setting a routine - I was noticing the boys napping around 6/7 and napping so deeply I had to wake them so I went for that as bedtime - at 6 they have a bottle, 6:30 we go up for a bath, down by 7. I use lots of ‘sleep cues’ - the bath is the main one (they’ve had this routine for ages now, but now I notice them yawning and rubbing their eyes once in the bath!), a slumber buddy night light for the nursery, mobile that plays the same song and I also song the same song to them while I get them dried and dressed. The idea is babies thrive on routine so the more the recognise the cues they just think ‘Oh, it’s bedtime!’ And it all helps send them off.
I sound like I’m some pro, I’m really not haha but with twins sleep was an obsession for me very early on!! They sleep 7-6:30/7 these days with no wakes though so it’s definitely worked for us!! Xx

Fivebyfive2 · 20/08/2020 08:32

@lokicat, Joe goes to bed between 7.30 and 8.30 depending on naps, but I'm trying to get it to 7.30 as often as possible, so have started tweaking his naps where I can. I've found anything after 8.30 and he's too fussy to get down without a bit of drama, but if we tried to early (say 6.30 to 7ish) he'd often have a long wake up in the middle of the night?! I'm definitely not an expert though, as you can probably tell from my various posts about what a, crap night we've had 😂 His sleep has slightly improved recently though... Just in time for the 8 month regression to F it all up probably!

@MrsEG, he loves water! At first he struggled with the sippy cup and we gave it to him in a bottle, but just kept trying the cup and he's had the hang of it for a while now, although only just got to grips with doing the whole process on his own (pick up, hold it right way up, tilt, sip!) I've tried him with the lid off as well (obviously I hold it then!) and he takes it really well 🙂

Ladies with older babies @stormtrooperjulian, @bostonfern, @thumper59... I can't remember if any of you guys are/we're breastfeeding, but if so... How did you handle knowing how often to feed as solids increased?? I still feed Joe every 2.5/3 hours and try to make sure it falls 40 or so mins before any solids etc. He feeds twice in the night now, which is a massive improvement and I still feed him before a nap. But in the day when he's wide awake, I'm sure he'd happily not bother! He's so much more interested in playing, trying to move, eating food etc and the only time he actually seems bothered is if he's tired or sometimes if he's upset, but even then a cuddle or a distracting toy works just as well sometimes! I'm a, bit worried he's maybe not getting enough milk or certainly wouldn't be if I didn't keep offering?? But then again he seems happy and his weight appears to be OK so maybe I'm over thinking??
