@Fivebyfive2 Ah poor Joe, and you! What an afternoon. If he’s pulling his ears and a bit unsettled have you had your GP check for an ear infection? Ruairí was like that for a while; to be honest it was just a phone call but she asked me a few things just to rule it out as sometimes teething ear pain is confused with an ear infection. Could be worth a quick call to them? Ruairí’s was just teething though - he suffers terribly with it! I can feel the jagged edge on his gum now though so hopefully soon!!

@purplefig That’s amazing!! Well done M and you, I bet you feel amazing for it! Hopefully that’s the start of some great sleep for you all now!
Tadgh is pronounced like Tiger but losing the ‘er’, so sounds like ‘Tige’ if that makes any sense!! It’s a lovely name and sounds gorgeous in the Irish accent, DH was obsessed with it but I had to Vito it because of the spelling, poor sod would have a terrible time in Manchester!!
I have a friend who lives in Bournemouth and she says very similar to you, it stops her going out sometimes!! I find it so frustrating, I barely see my parents and family/friends but people flock to beaches for a mini hol... ugh, don’t get me started!! We’re just going for a stroll to our local makers market today. I skipped last month as I wasn’t sure about the social distancing but apparently it worked really well! So gonna go kinda late afternoon when it quietens down anyway. I might go for a big stomp with the pram too; I’ve started a 100km for the month challenge so need to get my steps in!

ELW85 · 08/08/2020 11:31

@purplefig - you didn’t sound like a twit, you’re totally right! I think it’s just hard when you e made progress and then all of a sudden it gets wiped out. But I’m coming to terms with the fact that they’re ever changing and so I just need to roll with it or I’ll drive myself insane.
I hope you enjoyed your beer! I could totally go for one.
I’m so pleased for you that M slept through. You’ve really done a cracking job with her and you should be so proud.
Now, if you fancy a trip north to have a word with Finn, I’ll stock the wine fridge 😂

@MrsEG - thank you! I love the photos of the boys in the park 💙
It feels like a weight has been lifted now the work stuff is sorted and he won’t be in nursery til around 10 months. I just need him to goddamn nap on his own so I’m not pinned down whilst working 😂

@Fivebyfive2 - poor Joe! Definitely sounds like his teeth. Odd question but does he have any mucous in his poo? When Finn has his really bad infection, I started noticing it in his nappy.

@MrsR16 - I know I’m obsessed with wake windows etc and I really should ditch it but it’s so hard!
I’ve got everything crossed for you that you find something else that you like. It’s shit when you’re just not feeling it.

I’m feeling a bit better today. Just so sick of this house business! Had a guy view yesterday who was really interested actually said “I’m really interested, leave it with me” then nowt. Wtf.

Anyway back on to my unhealthy obsession with sleep.
Brought Finn up for his nap a little bit late after being awake for 1h15 (usually bring him up after an hour and then 20 mins to settle) and he just went ballistic.
Took him to the nursery to put him under his mobile - all smiles and laughter. For his cuski and left him to it. No flailing arms and legs. He genuinely liked like he was drifting off.
I then tried to encourage him which just brought back the flailing arms and legs so I picked him up and gently held him. Asleep in seconds. After 2 hours awake.
Am I trying to get him down too early do you reckon? Maybe he’s fighting because he’s just not ready? I’ve no idea at this point. He’s either overtired or under tired and I don’t have a sodding clue anymore!!

@ELW85, I can't really help to be honest as I'm similar to @MrsR16; if he seems tired I try to settle him, if it's not happening I give up and try again a little later. But saying that, Joe still doesn't self settle often (it's usually boob/rock/buggy) so I'm definitely not the best person to give advice!

Joe seems loads more himself today; smiley, laughing, hungry and not sleeping... He's had a 30 min nap since 5am! Seems happy enough though, just wants to play and roll about, so hopefully he'll have a long lunchtime sleep??

Here he is after his blueberry porridge thing and again after his bath, looking relaxed and chunky 🙂

@MrsEG @Fivebyfive2 @purplefig @ELW85 thanks ladies! Ethan decided 3am was a great time to wake up this morning for 90 mins (back to his old tricks!) so that's been fun and games... 🙄

@MrsEG visiting the in laws today, which will be nice! Ethan's normally on his best behaviour with them 😂 I hope their teeth cut through soon! It's almost an instant relief and I really noticed the difference with Ethan, until more started moving haha!

@Fivebyfive2 he was wonderfully happy yesterday, less so today, but still better than he was Thursday so that's a bonus! Oh bless Joe! There was a time a while back where I was giving Ethan Calpol at least once every day for his teeth! It did help... Joe did ok last night, I see! That's great! Hope you enjoyed your nap this morning 😊 wow, look at that face! 😂😂 just amazing!

@purplefig yep, bloody typical huh? 😂 yay!!! Well done, M! That's fantastic news!

@ELW85 oh god I'm sorry you're being messed around so much by people! I can't help with sleep, unfortunately!

MrsEG · 08/08/2020 12:47

@ELW85 Ahh what a nightmare. When we sold our old flat we got a buyer the same week we put it up; delighted - only for him to pull out 2 weeks later. ‘He’s looking for something a bit different now’, whatever, fine. Back on the market and it went again a few weeks later. The day we exchanged and moved out, our original buyer was in the foyer.... moving in to another flat in the building!! Clearly had seen the other and decided he preferred that one. It pissed me off so much, just be honest! Don’t be like ‘Oh yeah I love it!’ if it’s a big fat lie!! Really hope you get a decent buyer very soon!
It’s so tough with sleep. I do stick rigidly with awake windows but also kinda watch them to see how they go. Sometimes if I think they’re getting cranky ‘early’ I’ll notice just picking them up, changing their bum, going in to another room calms them and they’re actually just a bit bored. It’s a hell of a lot of trial and error I’ve found, it really is!

@Fivebyfive2 oh look at him!! The mess looks familiar I basically had to bath both boys after their green beans today!!

@MrsR16 I’m the same with the boys they have calpol or neurofen most days, it’s the only thing that works! It really seems to help too. Have fun with the in-laws!

MrsR16 · 08/08/2020 15:29

@MrsEG I had people absolutely swear by the Ashton & Parsons teething powder, so I tried it... didn't have any effect whatsoever on him, so Calpol it was! Brilliant stuff 😊

Fivebyfive2 · 08/08/2020 17:17

@MrsEG, I know what you mean about the mess, there are some things I only give when I know I've got time to bath him after! That would really F me off what happened to you with that buyer messing you around, some people?! How have the boys been?

@MrsR16, hope Ethan is OK. I agree, calpol is magic!!

@purplefig, that's amazing about M sleeping through, I'm really glad your hard work has paid off 🙂

@ELW85, how has Finn been this afternoon? I'm sure you'll get a buyer soon, your house is stunning! Xx

We've had a lovely day! After his purple explosion brunch and a bath, we played a bit and then he had a 2.5 hour nap while dh and I had lunch and watched a film!! Then we got his little pop up tent out and all sat in the garden, followed by toast fingers and banana for Joe. He now likes butter and peanut butter on toast! Dh has taken him for a little stroll now and I am relaxing with a cream egg choc ice 😋 You watch it will all go to pot after his tea later and we'll probably have an awful night 😂

ELW85 · 08/08/2020 18:00

@MrsEG - I’d be raging about your flat scenario. Very similar thing just happened with our house. Couple loved it, went off to get offer and mortgage sorted. Another at the top of a street near us comes on and they buy it in 2 days. Really similar to ours, slightly newer extension. Raging.

@Fivebyfive2 - I decided to liberate myself a bit today. Took Finn to the coast on my own and thought ‘sod it, you might fall asleep, you might cry, but none of us will die’ so he refused to fall asleep even in the car. 2h30 later and at home he drifts off with a cuddle 🙅🏼‍♀️
Brought him up after an hour for his last nap of the day and he got pretty upset but I got him to sleep in about 5 mi s so I do think he’s overtired from today but I also think I might be getting him down too early sometimes.
It sounds like you’ve had a great day! How was the ice cream? We have Magnums in the fridge and I had one last night and concluded it was a grown up choc ice 😂
Thank you for your kind words about the house. The latest feedback is “I love it but my wife wants a new build” well why bother me then?!?! Assarrrrghghhh XX

OP posts:
MrsR16 · 08/08/2020 18:37

@Fivebyfive2 a creme egg choc ice?!? Omg! Ethan has been great today! Bless him 😊 this is his current state...

@ELW85 oh how frustrating for you! House selling is a horrible business... I've never had the privilege, but I do some residential work so I understand!

Fivebyfive2 · 08/08/2020 19:37

@ELW85, sounds like you've had a good day overall! Xx

@MrsR16, aaahhh bless him! Joe has had tea and is sitting in the nip chatting very loudly to his cuddly elephant 🙂 Bed soon hopefully!

We're in a bit of a conundrum with his 5am wakes... Depends on naps and sometimes I can get him down about 7/7.30 at night still, but others he needs a sleep about 5pm but that's too early for bed... So we let him cat nap, but it still means he's up a bit later, like 8/8.30. He seems happy enough so I'm hoping this is OK??

ELW85 · 08/08/2020 20:35

@MrsR16 - oh Ethan is too cute! I know I’m having a total white whine about the house to be fair, I need a word with myself! Just gotten excited for the prospect of it all, stupidly.

@Fivebyfive2 - I actually think overall today has had less battles strangely. Finn has had about an hour less napping but he naps too much anyway. He’s been waking up at 5.30 ready to go because he’s had too much day sleep...but if you wake him in the day he’s not happy.
I think you need to take into account how much day sleep Joe has to try and balance out the early waking but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with an 8pm bedtime for example if you know he can do about 11
Hours at night and you’re aiming for 7pm? But we’ve seen how terrible I’ve managed Finn’s sleep recently so probably ignore me!! Xx

OP posts:
Fivebyfive2 · 08/08/2020 20:55

@ELW85, the problem is it is so all over the place! We know Joe will not do 11 hours overnight, he used to do 10 but now it's more like 9...if we put him to bed early, he always has a long wake in the middle of the night and is often still up early. Too late and he's still up at 5am and even though he doesn't usually seem fussed, I know that's not enough sleep. I don't think he has too much day sleep either, he has anything from 2.5 to 3.5 hours??

ELW85 · 09/08/2020 02:30

@Fivebyfive2 - hmm and he’s nearly 8 months? The long wakes in the night make you think under tired but because sleep is the most confusing thing ever, if he’s gotten into an overtired cycle he might not be able to get into a deep enough sleep at night.
How is he tonight?

Random song that popped into my head for the (nearly) 3am club: ‘Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina’ and with that, I bid you a good morning 😂

OP posts:
Fivebyfive2 · 09/08/2020 06:31

@ELW85, well after my posts last night, we had a weird but slightly wonderful night! He didn't go down until 9.30 (not crying or anything, just wide awake!) but then he slept 9.30 until 4.15,his longest ever stretch! Even went back to sleep at 4.25 after a feed and woke for the day at 6am,the first time in weeks he hasn't been up at 5am ish 😮 I'm pretty sure it's the most sleep I've had since he was born 😂

TrashKitten10 · 09/08/2020 09:03

@Fivebyfive2 That's amazing! I bet you feel like a new woman ☺️ Did you do anything differently?

@ELW85 I sing that one to Daisy when she's wailing 😂

@MrsR16 Ethan is scrummy ☺️

Well I don't know if it's the heat or separation anxiety but Daisy is having a nightmare getting to sleep. Both her afternoon nap and bedtime she is wailing for up to an hour and needing to be held to get to sleep. Weirdly her morning nap seems unaffected. It all seemed to kick in when the temperature changed which makes me think it could be heat but she's struggling in general with me being out of sight so perhaps it is separation anxiety. Who knows! She's also now started biting which is another fun new phase. So trying to rock her to sleep last night and she sinks her teeth into my shoulder! 😩 She's got 6 teeth now so she can give you a good old nip. These babies are sent to try us ☺️

Fivebyfive2 · 09/08/2020 09:48

@TrashKitten10, nothing massively different really! He technically had 3 'meals' yesterday, but one was just a couple of toast fingers. He had 3 naps; 30 mins in the morning (after being awake almost 4 hours!) then 2.5 hours over lunchtime and about 40 mins early evening.

That's his 2nd good night for long stretches. I'm tempted to try his room again as I really want that to work now he is coming up to 8 months!

MrsR16 · 09/08/2020 10:23

@Fivebyfive2 oh bless Joe! Chatting away 😊 so cute! Yay for sleep! It's so refreshing when they actually sleep for a good amount of time, isn't it?

@ELW85 you're allowed a whine! For sure! I don't understand how you haven't got offers coming out your ears for your house - it's bloody gorgeous!

@TrashKitten10 aw thanks! 😊 oh goodness, nap/bed times sound like lots of fun in your house at the moment! I hope Daisy realises that sleep is good soon!

ELW85 · 09/08/2020 10:33

@Fivebyfive2 - that’s awesome!! Maybe he’s just got low sleep needs and it’s all just falling into place?

@TrashKitten10 - haha! Picturing you singing going that as she’s crying made me laugh out loud!!
6 teeth and a shoulder chomp doesn’t sound fun. Is she around the 9-10 month mark? That’s when separation anxiety peaks from what I’ve read.
It must be weird having to hold her to sleep again?

OP posts:
ELW85 · 09/08/2020 10:35

@MrsR16 - cross post! Thank you, I’m really hoping it goes soon. I so want that other house.

OP posts:
Fivebyfive2 · 09/08/2020 13:09

@ELW85, I think his sleep needs are at the lower end of the scale to be honest as it's very rare he's grumpy in the day unless teething or needs a poo!

Off to mils this afternoon so wish me luck.... At least I can tell her that he is sleeping better for now!

ELW85 · 09/08/2020 13:59

@Fivebyfive2 - good luck at MiL’s...think of the island with the talking wildlife 😂

OP posts:
Fivebyfive2 · 10/08/2020 08:56

Aaaagh! We had 3 really good nights so I tried Joe in his room again last night (we've been trying on and off since June!) It was a disaster 🙁 Settled him OK, but then he was up after just 3.5 hours and I couldn't re settle him. He wouldn't get comfy in the chair for his feed, had to feed standing up (🤦‍♀️) He actually went to sleep in the cot and I thought I was on to a proper win, but must have been super light sleep because as soon as I walked out he was crying! So I rock him back to sleep, but then he woke as I put him down 😬 Well, that was it, he was wide awake. Dh and me just took turns with him for over an hour until he conked out on the boob finally and was back in the snuzpod in our room. Feeling like a bit of a failure for being unable to get him in his room tbh. I know that's silly, but it seems everyone says it helps etc but I just can't seem to get it right?!! Ah well. Today is another day. I had cookie crip cereal for breakfast. Because F It 😂

MrsEG · 10/08/2020 09:27

@MrsR16 Agree! I’ve tried every teething powder, gel, etc - nothing works other than calpol or neurofen! More crap I’ve wasted money on with these boys!!

@Fivebyfive2 We gave them a pouch yesterday and for some reason it seemed much less messy, who knows why! Maybe I’ve been making them too runny?
Ah sorry to hear about his room. He’s obviously just very happy with you! Could you try the slow transition (my sister did it) - put his Snuzpod inside the crib so he’s used to the bed but helps him get used to the room? Do you have any night lights etc? Conor was a bit scared of the dark when we moved them but we have a SlumberBuddy and that helped immensely. He’ll get there!

@ELW85 How’s it going with the house? It is so frustrating when you can tell someone has come round literally just for a gander, such time wasters. Sorry to hear Finn didn’t snooze on his walk!! Does he sleep in the carrier at all?

@TrashKitten10 Ahh separation anxiety!! I’m dreading that phase with two! They really are sent to test us aren’t they, you feel like you’ve just got past one hurdle and another immediately presents itself!! How’s daisy been doing?

Hope everyone had a great weekend :) we attempted to get out both days, Saturday was a complete disaster but Sunday went great. Who knows why! Meeting some NCT friends today to go for a walk, I’ve started an activity challenge so need to get some serious steps in and I’m hoping it’ll get me more geared up to get up and out! Finally got my Covid results (negative) so I can go to baby sensory Tuesday too. I’m so looking forward to doing a ‘normal’ baby thing!

ELW85 · 10/08/2020 10:21

Morning all

So I really need to undertake the google ban @purplefig recommended.
I’m still worried there’s something up with Finn.

Guys I’m having a bit of a wobble and I was hoping I could ask a couple of questions!

Finn seems a lot more active in the sense of constantly flailing his arms and legs around. Is that normal?
And when I’m trying to get him to sleep, he still really flails his arms around. I don’t know if he’s trying to get the energy out or whatever but it’s so tough.
So I’ve been googling the life out of everything and basically he’s autistic according to the internet. I have no idea what to think!
And he’s started doing this weird little shudder thing. Which apparently is something he’ll grow out of...

@Fivebyfive2 - you’re not failing. This is super hard. I was going to suggest the Snuzpod in the cot too.
Could you try naps on there first to get him used to the room?

@MrsEG - got a voicemail for another viewing but honestly I feel so dejected with it, I can’t even be arsed to ring them back...
