Ooh @Smiffette I've seen these and keep thinking about buying one! You'll have to let us know if you have any luck! We seem to get between an hour to 2 and a half hours max in the crib in a night and then he's up and wants to sleep on me again. Very slow progress but it's better than screaming the second he's laid down which was happening before!

Smiffette · 26/07/2020 14:31

@BabyBird20 will do!
We've been the same, she is better in the evening, she was definitely I the "witching hours" for the last two weeks fighting sleep in the later afternoon / evening.

That seems to have settled down now as I've been trying to be more routined with naps in the day time which I think has helped.

So I feel it will be more successful with a more settled happy baby and I've read that around the 2-3 month mark is a little better as babies are nearing the end of the fourth trimester so hopefully that will also add to the success!

I'm trying to be as positive as possible!!

Magpie21 · 26/07/2020 19:22

@smiffette what is that called? Looks interesting

Had a terrible night last night with the LO last night and she didn't settle for her first sleep until 3am. She just seems to constantly have trapped wind after feeds despite our efforts to burp her. We can settle her down quite easily as she is tired but she will wake up again after 5 mins uncomfortable with trapped wind. We have tried the tricks of burping through bottle and keeping her upright after the bottle (and still using infacol) but the motion of being flat is making her uncomfortable. Is anyone else in the same boat? I'm hoping after a couple of weeks her system will become more mature and this will pass a bit. She is 4 weeks old tomorrow..

Smiffette · 26/07/2020 19:52

@Magpie21 it's Babymoov - Cosy dream
I'm hoping it helps, it's not that expensive if it does £40.

mrssunshinexxx · 26/07/2020 20:03

@Magpie21 do you incline her crib? X

SRS1311 · 26/07/2020 20:10

@Magpie21 ours was similar...definitely has issues getting wind up and this meant when putting him down he would just be tense and unable to settle. We changed formula to the cow and gate comfort one which think has made him more settled. We have started using gripe water to help get burps up, felt like infacol did nothing.

@Smiffette it looks similar to the sleepyhead. We've got one of them and seems to be the only thing the baby will sleep in. Started using it overnight as it's the only thing he seems to sleep in at least for a short period. The only thing is the mixed advice about whether these things are safe for overnight sleeping? Not read into your one, but theres a lot of conflicting advice but we got desperate!

Magpie21 · 26/07/2020 20:25

Haven't tried the incline so may well try that. I have a pot of Aptamil Comfort in the cupboard which I'm tempted to try shortly. I'm going to try gripe when she hits 1 month...I'll try anything!

Blizy · 26/07/2020 21:41

@Smiffette I had one those supports for ds when he was a baby. It worked for us and were able to put him down!

Smiffette · 26/07/2020 21:44

@Blizy oh that's positive to hear! Finger crossed after she's gotten over having her jabs I'll be able to settle her in there

BabyBird20 · 26/07/2020 21:48

@Smiffette it's good to be positive! I'm
Feeling more positive after recovering from mastitis and starting to recover from my second scar infection!! Breastfeeding is going much better now so next to crack is the sleep!

What does your routine for naps look like during the day? I am useless at getting him to nap and sometimes he'll have loads of 10 - 20 mins in the day and other times he'll sleep 3 hours in the day! No idea what he should be doing at 7 weeks!!

Smiffette · 26/07/2020 21:57

@BabyBird20 that's good then, glad it's cleared up!

Mornings are usually pretty consistent,

We get up properly by 8 then she will tend to go down anywhere between 9-10 for a couple of hours. Then wakes for an hour / hour and a half and then will sleep again over lunch for another couple of hours.

On a good day, she will go down again for a couple of hours in the afternoon fairly easily sometimes it needs work as she seem to start fighting sleep in the afternoon.
The first two naps of the day just happened naturally really.

Busylizzie85 · 27/07/2020 06:34

@Magpiefeather we are all on this thread now if you want to join!
Congratulations on what sounds like a nice straight forward birth in the end, glad your both doing well.

UKtoSK · 27/07/2020 07:40

@Smiffette it sounds like we have opposite problems with sleep. Jia will sleep really well in her crib overnight. Naturally goes down between 9 and 10 and will wake every 2.5-3 hours for feeds and wakes up around 6am when it’s light. But she just will not sleep during the day other than the 20-30 minute naps on me after feeds and an occasional nap in her day bed or crib during the day but it’s a fight to get her down for only 20-40 minutes of napping. I’m jealous of your day nap schedule. Has she always slept that well in the day or is it new?

Cornishbumpkin · 27/07/2020 09:55

@UKtoSK we are the same, even managed to get a 5 1/2 hr block of sleep last night! He generally does one longer sleep of 3-4hrs then 1 or 2 lots of 2hrs overnight but daytime naps are anywhere between 10 and 90 mins and only either on someone or in the pram. Starting to get very resistant to the afternoon naps which can making evenings a battle. Luckily he loves a bath and stops crying as soon as he gets in the water so he has one every night Smile

Cornishbumpkin · 27/07/2020 09:57

Forgot to put, with a little trial and error of what he wears at night we found he sleeps so much better when swaddled, he would always get his arms out if I just swaddled in a blanket so we bought these and the difference is amazing

UKtoSK · 27/07/2020 10:32

@Cornishbumpkin we also swaddle every night although with muslins. She sleeps so well like that. But in the day she just wriggles and wriggles trying to break out and won’t settle at all. We keep the air con on so it’s not a temperature difference. We’ve also been having very fussy evenings, might try a bath if she can’t be settled any other way. Last night we took her out in the pram at her usual crying time and avoided it.

Smiffette · 27/07/2020 13:10

@UKtoSK I would say probably the last 3 weeks she fallen into that schedule which is nice as I try and plan my day around it!

I notice if she misses a nap though she can be really fussy and unsettled.

how old is Jia?

Kennylou12 · 27/07/2020 13:20

Hi! I've just discovered this board :) my little boy is just over 5 weeks now and reading through all your experiences with sleep etc has been so so helpful!
He has been diagnosed with a cows milk allergy so after running through the different milk options we are now on neocate and omeprazole which seems to be helping :) he is still quite refluxey but we have only had the omeprazole for a day.
I have around 10 leftover tubs of his prescription of Aptamil Pepti 1 which didn't agree with him and wondered if any mummy's were using this and if you would want them (for free of course)? I'm based near high Wycombe but could look into posting if you were further away. I also have one unopened tub of Nutramigen LGG 1. I know it can be difficult to get the GP to prescribe so would love to help someone out if we can :)

Magpie21 · 27/07/2020 18:47

@magpiefeather This is the group :-)

Magpiefeather · 28/07/2020 06:21

Ah thank you @Magpie21 and @Busylizzie85!

I’ve just read all 22 pages lol . It’s so good to be back in your company ladies and to read everyone’s experiences. Lots of common themes and lots that strike a cord with me.

Our baby boy is 3 weeks old and is a darling. He is a very relaxed baby (especially compared to my firstborn who screamed blue murder for the first 6 months....) as long as he I being held. I don’t mind that, it does get tricky to get things done and I do long for the day when he will nap in his crib sometimes, but acfully he was inside me 3 weeks ago so I think it’s understandable that he doesn’t want to nap in his cot!

Somehow breastfeeding is going really wel this time round, although at last weigh in he still wasn’t back to birth weight (which was 9lbs 7oz) . Being weighed again tomorrow so fingers crossed.

One nipple still hurts quite a bit especially when he latches but it did have a crack which has taken ages to heal so maybe that’s why.

Our ds like lots of yours is really hard to wind, he gets lots of trapped wind and squirms and moans with it if he’s laid down flat poor thing. We’ve been managing to get really good sleep at night though and the key for me has been (safe) cosleeping. Now he’s better at latching I can feed him laying down and snooze while he feeds. If I am awake when he finishes I can transfer him to the snuzpod, which involves me still curling round him with my head and arm at first then slowly retracting. If I can hear all the wind still there after burping etc I lay him on his side at first, rubbing his back etc to try and get it up. When he’s properly asleep I roll him onto his back.

Again my approach has been to roll with it on the “won’t go down in his crib to sleep” front... I think it’s kind of too much to expect of a newborn. Biologically for babies, mummy = safety, so to me it makes sense why he wakes as soon as I’ve moved more than 30cm away.

Naps I have just again allowed him to nap on me as he hates being put down and always wakes up. A stretchy sling has been my saviour. He’ll tend to do snacky / cluster feeding all morning til about 10, then a long 3 hour sleep so that’s when I make sure he’s either in the sling or we are heading out. All our outings so far he’s slept through!

With the sling I can do bits of housework too which is great!

As time goes on I’ll try and get sleep times a bit more consistent but this seems to be working for now so I’m rolling with it!

Dd doing ok but struggling a bit with lack of attention.

mrssunshinexxx · 28/07/2020 15:04

Just cannot wait time be healed from this c section getting so fucking fed up
In agony Agaun today so sore internally and a baby who WILL NOT NAP even though is knackered and no one to help until thurs eve when hubby is home.. sorry needed a moan

Pegase · 28/07/2020 15:33

So sorry to hear you are having a hard day @mrssunshinexxx

Did you go back to GP in the end?

Gigitree · 28/07/2020 17:10

I’m so sorry you’re having a tough day! Trying to heal from a c-section on top of looking after a newborn must be so hard!
How old is your little one now? I know at 5 weeks they apparently go through a ‘leap’ and can be really unsettled then. My little one was really tough to get to sleep for 2/3 days this past week as she approached the 5 week mark! It was taking me about 1.5 hours to get her to sleep each time and one day she barely slept at all except for on me for 15 mins at a time.
Hang in there, I know it’s so hard but this will pass!
Have you spoken to anyone GP/HV about the pain you’re in?

AndddddHerewegoagain · 28/07/2020 20:57

@mrssunshinexxx sorry to hear you're having a bad day. Being in pain must make it so much worse

We have had an awful screamy 24 hours. Dd wouldn't settle from about 3am this morning and ended up asleep in my arms. Sleep all day has been awful and im currently still doing bedtime. Want to cry!! Going to stay with my parents Friday and can't bear the thought of it being this bad and being alone- they're not very practical and will just lament about what a bad sleeper i was instead of being helpful

mrssunshinexxx · 28/07/2020 21:01

@Pegase I had another course of antibiotics that seemed to clear infection up then my skin in the middle over healed so there was a lump so the nurse put something on it and gave me some dressings last saw her on Friday and she said it looked really good and was feeling better even managed to out with the pram for first time

Went to my dads yesterday and ended up doing some house work for him and also it was the longest drive I have done then yesterday evening was in slot of pain again and today it's started weeping again so doc prescribed me some stronger antibiotics and I've got an app to see her tomorrow at half 10 I'm so fed up with it dealing with grief and being housebound is shit !!

@Gigitree she's 4 weeks and 6 days whys it going so fast 😭😭😭😭
I wish I could pause time even with no sleep
I adore her
She is getting v overtired today she didn't have a proper nap until 3.15! I literally tried all day she would fall asleep for about 10 mins then wake herself up she slept 3.15-6pm then fell asleep on boob but I carried her upstairs changed nappy bathes her, massage and book and back in bed for 7.10.. woke up back down for 8.15 🤞 for a couple hours now x
