Ah thank you @Magpie21 and @Busylizzie85!
I’ve just read all 22 pages lol . It’s so good to be back in your company ladies and to read everyone’s experiences. Lots of common themes and lots that strike a cord with me.
Our baby boy is 3 weeks old and is a darling. He is a very relaxed baby (especially compared to my firstborn who screamed blue murder for the first 6 months....) as long as he I being held. I don’t mind that, it does get tricky to get things done and I do long for the day when he will nap in his crib sometimes, but acfully he was inside me 3 weeks ago so I think it’s understandable that he doesn’t want to nap in his cot!
Somehow breastfeeding is going really wel this time round, although at last weigh in he still wasn’t back to birth weight (which was 9lbs 7oz) . Being weighed again tomorrow so fingers crossed.
One nipple still hurts quite a bit especially when he latches but it did have a crack which has taken ages to heal so maybe that’s why.
Our ds like lots of yours is really hard to wind, he gets lots of trapped wind and squirms and moans with it if he’s laid down flat poor thing. We’ve been managing to get really good sleep at night though and the key for me has been (safe) cosleeping. Now he’s better at latching I can feed him laying down and snooze while he feeds. If I am awake when he finishes I can transfer him to the snuzpod, which involves me still curling round him with my head and arm at first then slowly retracting. If I can hear all the wind still there after burping etc I lay him on his side at first, rubbing his back etc to try and get it up. When he’s properly asleep I roll him onto his back.
Again my approach has been to roll with it on the “won’t go down in his crib to sleep” front... I think it’s kind of too much to expect of a newborn. Biologically for babies, mummy = safety, so to me it makes sense why he wakes as soon as I’ve moved more than 30cm away.
Naps I have just again allowed him to nap on me as he hates being put down and always wakes up. A stretchy sling has been my saviour. He’ll tend to do snacky / cluster feeding all morning til about 10, then a long 3 hour sleep so that’s when I make sure he’s either in the sling or we are heading out. All our outings so far he’s slept through!
With the sling I can do bits of housework too which is great!
As time goes on I’ll try and get sleep times a bit more consistent but this seems to be working for now so I’m rolling with it!
Dd doing ok but struggling a bit with lack of attention.
