Hello!

re routines, as you know, I'm a GF fan, but we take her routines as a starting point, a sort of guide.

We are out everyday, for most of the day too, so it wouldn't work to try and stick to GF totally. I must admit, I love the fact that I have 3 hours a day to myself,(and 12 hours a night) I know when she will sleep and when, so I can plan around it.

I must tell you though, once I emailed GF,and weeks later, she phoned me up! I nearly fell over.

mmk · 23/09/2007 22:17

I thought of you all on Friday, I was at NCT coffee and the hostess was a reuasable fan. She had a line full of different ones. Once was lovely, all in one, with a sort of velvet smooth outer. She said it wold be better for new borns though.

I like the pocket idea too. Hmm, luckily, I have just ordered a trial pack from the lady mentioned here earlier.

elkiedee · 23/09/2007 22:29

SBS, glad to hear your dad is back to his difficult and stroppy self - hope he continues to improve. Hope your dh's studies and your return to work go well.

Pinions, congratulations on the weight loss. Hope you don't disappear again.

WO, we have a gradually evolved routine for the evening which generally works ok. We managed to get him to sleep in his pram for several hours on Friday evening while at a friend's house a few streets from home, and though he woke up after 3+ hours he was quite easily put to bed when we got home and slept until about 6 am.

Otherwise I just plan approx times for feeding him - it goes back to having to start feeding him formula and demonstrating to the hospital that I was capable of doing a regular feed pattern so they would let us go home. We're out and about too most days but he takes a lot of his naps as we're pushing his pram/buggy around or on the bus. If we're in there's no set times, I just try settling him down if he looks like he's ready to go to sleep. Saying this, anything could happen when we go away, and it may well all go to pieces.

I wouldn't stress too much about having a routine for its own sake

Morning all.

Glad you had a good weekend with Pesha Pillock. How was the date????

WO, the routine we have just adopted is along the lines of GF but adapted to suit us:

7.30 am 7 oz ff
11.00 am 7 oz ff and some baby cereal (K not keen at the mo, so just a taster)
2.30 pm 7 oz ff
5.00/30 pm a bit more baby cereal
6.15 bath.
6.30 8 oz ff in her room with the lights down
7.00 in to her grobag and in to bed

Worked well yesterday.

She tends to nap at about 8.30/9.00 am for half an hour and again at about midday for about 45 minutes. She will also have a nap some time in the afternoon.

HTH. Each to their own though.

Need to run, as Tesco here soon and I am in pj's. x

Morning SOL
Does anyone know why my baby is so grumpy at the moment??

OP posts:
liath · 24/09/2007 08:40

Dunno SPB but J has had some really unsettled spell too, lots of screeching & very out of character. Wondering if it's teeth.

No real routine here other than bedtime as he's now fitting into dd's bed routine. I could really do with getting feeds into more of a pattern - what are the other BFers doing - demand feeds or more of a structure??

StealthPolarBear · 24/09/2007 08:48

still demand feeding and tbh wouldn't want to stop as sometimes it's the only way to stop him crying

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 24/09/2007 08:48

how long did the unsettled spell last liath?

OP posts:
mmk · 24/09/2007 09:24

spb here is my favourite check list for the grumpies

teeth/tired
tummy upset
thirsty
bored
growth spurt
just feel like it!

Someone told me, and I think it may be true tht teething powders such as Nelsons or that other one, settle their tummies too. It works well for us, especially if the powder is rubbed on the gum (probably because thet deadens newly formed nerve endings.

StealthPolarBear · 24/09/2007 09:37

might try the teething powder then, thanks
has quietened slightly, think hes getting up the energy for more
dont thin k its tummy upset, on the 2 minute breaks from crying ive pressed his tummy and it doesnt seem to bother him

Morning all

Only reason we have a slight routine going here is because i have to get the older 2 to school and it all goes out the window at the weekend or if we have to go out anywhere! But weekday is -

6/7am ish Wake up and feed

7.50am Drag myself out of bed, dress D, and get kids ready, go to school and back and then he sits in bouncy chair while I have breakfast.

9.30 ish Feed and he dozes on and off for an hour or 2.

1 pm ish Feed and doze on and off for an hour or 2

Sometime between 4 and 6 he'll have a feed

Sometime between 6 and 8 he'll feed until he falls asleep anytime between 8 and 10.

He was waking in the night around half 3/4 and cluster feeding til we got up but at ellies has started sleeping through again which is wonderful! Last night he slept from half 9 till 7.15 when i woke him up to feed! But it is pretty much demand feeding just trying to squeeze his demands either way slightly if I know we're going out. When I woke him this morning he only fed off my left boob and still hasnt fed since so my right boob hasnt been fed off since half 9 last night, its starting to hurt a bit now!!

Bum. Have forgotten what else I was going to say!

mmk · 24/09/2007 09:49

well would you look at that!! After years of not using any hair products hardly (for fear of causing damage to embryo), today I did my hair! I have straightener on it, volum gel and hairspray! Ahh that feels good! It is straight, smooth and all in one place.

Oh the joys of finishing Ivf..

what made you happy today?

mmk · 24/09/2007 09:51

oh yes, and the baby is not dressed, the pram bag is not packed, the bottles not sterilised, and there is Weetabix all over the kitchen floor.

There are enough chemicals in the boudoire to knock out a rhino, but who cares, for the first time in years, my hair (what's left of it) is looking good!

Eddas · 24/09/2007 10:00

ashton & parsons is the other teething powder(well i have that one) not used it yet though as the gel seems to work on ds.
SPB could he be a little unwell? ds is atm(caught from big sis!) so is unsettled atm. Gave him some calpol at 3.30am to try and settle him. Didn't here him til 6.30 so either it worked or I just didn't here

Phoned my boss already he was non-comital, but I expected that. Wants to discuss with the other partners first, but sounded promising. Said he'd get back to me soon, so hope it's today. I did say i'd need to know asap 'coz if it's no then i'll have to find something else. I'm hoping that IF he says no i'll be able to get work somewhere else 3 pms per week.

Will update when he calls me back

Peshasofeight · 24/09/2007 10:05

SPB - when D was goin through a very cryey (?), refusing to feed stage I took him to dr, because of the issues with his weight so not wanting him to be missing feeds otherwise I wouldn't have, and she suggested giving him some sugar water. There has been research which shows it relieves pain in babies better than calpol. And when he went to hospital to have blood taken on friday they gave him some sucrose first to help and he barely grunted when they put the needle in and then sat there happily looking round the room while she was taking the blood! Mummy wasn't quite so happy about it mind! But worth a try I would have thought.

StealthPolarBear · 24/09/2007 10:07

Hope you get the answer you want eddas
I don't think he's ill, in between screams he seems happy - smiling, laughing etc. Slept well last night and feeding fine. He's asleep now, had to put him down on his feeding pillow and have surrounded him with cushions!
I think he might be a bit bored. He seems to really want to get to and pick up stuff and gets frustrated as he can't crawl. Then he works himself up, and before you know it he's screaming Maybe I just need to play with him a bit more - think of some fun things to do.
House selling / buying isn't going well either Don't want to bore you all with the details but will let you know when anything is decided.

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 24/09/2007 10:09

Pesha, that's really interesting about the sugar water - silly q is it just sugar and water, or is it something you buy?
Don't want to give him calpol really as I don't think he's ill but sometimes when he's just screaming...He is feednig though and weight gain seems OK (is getting weighed again on Wed) so I'm not really that worried, maybe will mention it on Wed if it hasn't stopped.
Better go and clean the kitchen, friend coming round to be screamed at this afternoon

OP posts:
Peshasofeight · 24/09/2007 10:21

SPB - yes it is just a bit of water and sugar, have never actually tried myself as he stopped his grumping the day after I took him to dr, but I would think make it with hot water so suger dissolves then give it cool.

Have you got one of the entertainment jobbys or I use an old baby walker for D as a seat to sit him in so he's upright and can have toys right there on the tray to play with so not so frustrating. Have never used it as a walker, just a seat to stick them in in the kitchen/garden with me so they're part of whats going on iyswim.

Right, gonna see if i can link to pics of d and j, cant remember what i did last time so expect alot of wrong links before you get the right one

StealthPolarBear · 24/09/2007 10:22

no, have been meaning to get a baby walker for a while, thanks for reminding me, he keeps trying to sit up (bum in the air) and roll over in his bouncy chair.
Off to look at them now

hi pinions - wow 5 stone well done

routine??????? I have just asked that question to a March twin mummy for some ideas - daytime naps at home are difficult

5.45am Jack in my bed, 6.15am James in my bed, 6.30am dh out of my bed to work - give me girls any day (only joking) Erin up at 7.15am - girl after my own heart

It is my bed cos I chose it, wash the bedding and make it and occasionally allow others to sleep in it

I have Nelsons teething powder

glad you had a good w/e pesha & ellie

mummy pop is great - shame I can't drink it during the day - no things aren't that bad
